"this God-forsaken-don't-lemme-catch-you-in-an-alley beat"
Funky Technician was a damn good album. And yeah, Lord Finesse is severely underrated. Not only was he a great lyricist, but his production was also great. He was the complete package. It's really weird as to why he was so underrated.
Very wierd
It really is weird. Check out Grand puba if you haven't already
Very weird. He was like a slowed down diff style Kane kinda. I think part of it is Big L outshined him, but Lord Finesse 90-97 was always ILL!
@@superdopehiphop Facts 100
Lord finesse is one of the best rappers and producers out here!
Fair enough
Every episode of crate diggers I've seen has been excellent. All of the DJs/artists have shown their love of music and records with zero attitude or elitism.
Agreed, these guys just love music. I especially liked Jazzy Jeff's
for real!! it's allllll love!
mad mad mad inspired.
Especially the GaslampKiller episode.
such dope souls!
Leave the elitism for nerdy cucky soulstrut white dudes.

@@Stoney-Jacksman it's not about white, my friend
I think i finally found out what track he sampled this Magnum record on. Re-listening through a lot of the Funky Man's production, i'm 100% pretty sure he sampled the song "Which Doctor's Brew" for the bassline of Big L's Street Struck. He definitely filtered out the low end, re-arranged parts from the sample and probably did some pitching.
nice man ive always been meaning to try to figure that out. sounds like you are right.
you are definitely right!
This dude is so respectful lol I just want to hug him
Holy shit, this dude lives in my neighborhood and I see him all the time. I had no idea that he is in the music industry,
Go listen to his LP "The Awakening", great LP. Hip 2 Da Game is a classic tune.
Yea right.
Dirtymoney8 oh shit thats my dad for real! i never knew he was big in this shit! damn!
+Dirtymoney8 If you don't know... now you know
A M are you for real? you pulling my leg if finesse really you're dad and you don't know he a legend in the game
The record dealer that Finesse is speaking of that held up the record collection for Prince B (PM Dawn), was Pittsburgh's own Jerry, of Jerry's Records. A LOT of producers quietly come through here. An unnamed producer bought Jerry's ENTIRE 45 room.
Iirc it was either jrocc or madlib.
The amount of times I've watched this
Damn i didn't even know he produced Suicidal Thoughts.
IsaiahD that's 1 of my faves off ready to die
Standard
If you dont know now you know.
It's a DAMN SHAME lord finesse ain't known more , this man's input 2 hip hop can't be overlooked . Dope MC and producer . True hip hop heads know
“Rap without Finesse is like life without oxygen”- Hip 2 Da Game. One of my favorite rappers with that smooth flow. The other one is CL Smooth.
I would like to see PM Dawn's collection after hearing that story..
Damn, I could listen to his stories for hours and hours and hours and hours. One of the realest out there for sure!
📠
Word. Dude is one of the most underrated MC/Producer double threats in the game.
"The Funky Technician" and "Return of the Funky Man" are 2 of my favorite records. Both are classics to me.
The best one by far!!!
Yep no doubt
Fact
I love the art of sampling
Huge influence on my production style, this guy seems so chill and humble, nothing but respect Mister Underboss!
He's dropping a new album this year. I can't wait!
X xxxxxuuh v bb n v ccddfrr4rrrr4 4trfc I was 5 gggggggggggggggggffgfggggģģg
*Update* Lord Finesse lied. He told me directly on facebook he was suppose to drop an album but unfortunately, did not....oh well:(
+Lee Smoove But he dropped two Tapes in the last two years and now there is this remix album
Lord Finesse, a master MC and dope Producer.
theespressokid1 nasty on them turntables also!
If I would see an interview with Lord Finesse and Raekwon at the same time.. that would be trippy as fuck.
this is one of the best Crate Diggers episodes yet, hats off to Finesse
lord finesse fathered big l's flow and rhymescheme
Peace to the God, Lord Finesse. One of the best ever to rock a Mic, one of the best Lyricist ever. The Funky Technician!
He also produced "The Message" which closes Dr. Dre's 2001 album.
Damn didn't know that lol. I always thought Dre and others produced on 2001 but a East Coast producer tho...that's crazy.
Yeah most of the hit records Dre has made were produced by him, but the beats he bought from someone else. Half of the beats on Doggystyle were made by Daz Dillinger but Dre produced the album. He's more on an overseer now like what he did with Kendrick's album.
Yeah it's the same with the Compton album. Only a couple Dre beats there
That 3 days of the condor soundtrack on the shelf behind finesse is fuckin incredible......Worth investing in
**** THIS NEEDS MORE VIEWS ***** youngin's just dont know the LEGACY & IMPORTANCE of this LEGEND. Salute to you LORD FINESSE. Thankx for giving us a peek into ur vault collection

My favorite episode, I like the way finesse carts himself.
truest and livingest. legendary doesn't even come close to being accurate to describe this man. maximum respect.
I've always just thought of Finesse rhymes and love his style.
This man is Hip-Hop,And one of my biggest influences in this culture!
I love those "godforsaken, don't let me catch you in the alley" type beats!
I could listen to finesse all-day long
word man...he speaks in such a relaxing way hhaha..Damn he should make a relaxation tape , just speaking about records...
Im here all fucked up..listening to this and it actually made me smile.
Also that part about code and shit..i miss that in hiphop nowadays..a lot has changed and im not even from his era..but I love those days and the code and ethics there were in the game
Peace bruh :)
Oh dear, I never knew Lord Finesse produced Suicidal Thoughts, I love that track!
Great producer, amazing lyricist. Lord Finesse is one of my favorites. Respect!
Lord Finesse is defenitly one of my favorite producers and rappers. seems like a humble and cool dude as well
In 98 Q Tips crib went up in flames. He had to rebuild his collection...
"Suicidal Thoughts"....such a killer track

D.I.T.C shot Lord Finesse keeping it real
Yall needa do DJ Quik, MF Doom, Madlib, Warren G, RZA, & Somehow do like Jhonny J & Nujabes.. Yup
nujabes is dead is think
thats why i said "Somehow" do nujabes and jhonny j, cause they both dead.
YoungODB
They did Dilla, so why not Nujabes?
Doom!
Dj mike smooth also worked with finesse. Hard to find any info about him
His hooks are the best where he layers about 5 samples to make a harmony

Lord finesse is one of my favourites of all time hes a real inspiration for me!
i strive to have a collection this expansive.
AHHHH UNDER BOSS.... VINYL IS THE WINDOW TO UR SOUL! D.I.T.C. HAS INSPIRED MANY A DJ OR PRODUCER OR EVEN UR GARDEN VARIETY RECORD COLLECTOR. I'M INSPIRED EITHER WAY BY THIS DUDE, HE'S PACKING HEAT AFTER HEAT FOR WAX KID... SALUTE!!!!!!!
ahh the infamous PM dawn story.
it funny, because i watched a documentary about 10 or 11 years ago and pete rock, diamond D, lord finesse, dj evil D, mr walt and ju ju from the beatnuts, (all on separate interviews) told the pm dawn story.
and i still hear D.I.T.C and pete rock telling that same story today hahahaha.
i think pm dawn and the shop owner made a lasting impression to say the least lol.
i could listen to him ally day! Never knew it was his voice on fat boy slim - funk soul brother till about a year ago!!
This is why i always loved finesse... Such a real dude. And also, hes crew was called D.I.T.C which means Diggin' In The Crates.

2019
I love the 1989 Lord Finesse vs Percee P
Everything that I mainly got in here now is kinda ACCURATE.
Street Struck probably my fave Finesse beat
The tour was ill. glad we got the pleasure of supporting
Love how y'all keep it balanced one minute you are talking about one direction (not hating) the next y'all showing a hip hop legends record collection. Thanks fuse.
Lord Finesse is one of the coolest cats in hip hop
FOR ME IT'S ABOUT MORE THAN BREAKS, IT'S ABOUT SINGING AND A WHOLE LOT MORE IN A RECORD. IF THE RECORD HAS SOME STUFF TO SAMPLE ON IT, IT'S A BONUS BUT NOT NEEDED I JUST HAVE ALOT OF LOVE FOR THE WAX.
Of all this series this is the best
I love Lord Finesse, since i was turned on to Big L. Showbiz, A.G. Diamond D, Lord Finesse, Party Arty, all them. Great shit.
