Yes! “Why ya lying for? I know where you live. I know ya folks. You was a SUCKA as a kid!” So glad people convinced him to do this even if he hated it. It introduced me to his greatness!
That whole flow is such a *major* part of hiphop history..... *NOT JUST CLASSIC BUT A CRUCIAL VERSE THATS PARAMOUNT ON THE TIMELINE OF EMCEE EVOLUTION* Real(grown) hiphop heads know that im not exagerating this sentiment..
Absolutely LOVED his delivery during this session! He was raw and on point on the albums, but the way he's vibin' and switching between flow and (almost) spoken word is nice. One of the great lyricists and MCs with a badass band! Props to NPR for bringing out the legends.
Two golden era dons👏👏👏 Incredible band too conveying the nuances of the samples very well🎹🎺🎸🎤 "Non conceptual, non exceptional, everybody's either crime related or sexual." That line has stuck in my head since '94.
Nice!!! OC and Finesse, what a great way to enjoy my morning coffee :) And big up to NPR for all those amazing tiny desk concerts. Introduced me too lots of great artists.
Just want to say he is one of the greatest MC that has ever done it , all the way from SOUTH AFRICA , OC Thanks for the good music my brother , god bless.
Man I used to bump O.C. in the 90s and 2000s and lost him as life made music die a little. The sheer breadth of it. The time shrunk, no longer time to chill and have that vibe. O.C. is a God eMcee. One of the first 3 CDs I bought with my first job pay-check. IYKYK
DAAAAAMN... O.C. with Maurice Brown and band in one set. How awesome can you get NPR Tiny Desk Concert!?!? Just amazing. I am blown... How am I writing this while flattened to the floor, I dont know. Hit repeat so it can pick me back up.
This was priceless... OC got the vibes, like we all know and Lord Finesse coming to perform one of my all time favorite hip hop tracks.. that blew my mind!!! Propz to the band for enhancing the experience even more, thanks Tiny Desk 🙏🙏
This where u youngins got ur style & flow from...salute my dude Lord finesse Diggin in the crates crew... we help Pioneer this... baby.. Big L rest in power never forgotten.... the Temple of Hip Hop been in a game since 79
Those of us who know him, have witness a gem. Those of you who don't, familiarize yourself with his material. O.C's first two albums were classics. We need to honor our own. When we don't, those outside our community dictate to us who are kings and queens of our culture and the NEVER get it right. This is HIP HOP in it's purest form. Peace and Light.
So glad I found this video. I love old school rap / hiphop, but yet, OC was never on my radar. Never heard of him or Diggin in the Crates. But this set here is tight... I love how chill they are...they just ARE cool...they're not trying too hard... In On to a New Day, the music is sick, and the backup vocalist is amazing. Crazy ass Crooklyn Kids because it is survival of the fittest.
Tiny Desk Concerts...God am so happy I can live now and listen and feel the wibe....Hubble telescope and these concerts are the most sweet treats for humanity...
WOW!!!!! What the hell is going on... NPR is doing the damn thang! DIT is the real deal. That trumpet player got the multi-tones blasting out. Love this. Love the Keyz, drums, bass, guitar too. Dope rhymes ... It's all Good !
Wow, this is great. OC is incredible, great band, and on top of that we get Lord Finesse for free :) Lord Finesse one of the best MCs ever, and one of the best producers ever too. Put it together and you get one of the most important people in the history of hip hop. If they could have got Chubb Rock and Jeru for their verses of the Crooklyn Dodgers it would have been perfect.

First lets establish what rap is to us and what is has to do with whats going on currently.
PLEASE GIVE THIS MAN HIS FLOWERS!!!

I agree. This was one of the best tiny desks, along with The Genius GZA's...
Yess and don't forget the Masta Ace.
He does it so effortlessly.. That's the sign of a man that has mastered his craft. God Bless
WORD IS BORN!!!
NPR deserves a ton of credit for providing a great outlet to true artists. And the production is always top tier.
One of the best NPR sessions PERIOD
THE BAND IS AMAZING!!!! TRUMPET ON POINT!!! WHOLE BAND IS AMAZING!!!
Masterful! That’s how it’s done! I rather listen to OC than Jay-Z...I said it, what?!
I love listening to RAP with a band behind the MC...it's a refreshing blend.
It sounds awesome having a band. It makes it richer. Its almost as if the lyrics and rhymes gets richer.
I totally agree, and this sounded better the longer i listened to it...another TDC worth listening to many times!
Third time in two days...thank you O.C. and Tiny Desk!...Looking forward to a NEW DAY!!!

It can only be a matter of time, Pete Rock and CL Smooth have done a session like this before.
They have beef though...CL aired Pete out in an interview a couple months back
They are in troubles

Lady in the crowd: Aw that's wrong! 😂😂😂
that's gotta be the quickest retort on record.
Great beats and he was on point with his stuff
"Word....life" is one of the illest, most thought provoking hip-hop records to bless the genre.
"Police be clocking me!"
It’s just as good an album as Illmatic, Liquid Swords, Hard To Earn, etc.
One of the best hip hop songs and albums of all time!
OC is one of my absolute favourite MCs. His skills, lyrics, voice and flow are outstanding!
2 of the most underrated Emcees.....O.C & Lord Finesse!!!
