As an average white bloke from Australia, crews like Gheto Boys and NWA told me stories, of places, and the people, that I never experienced or understood However, the stories they told broke my heart in that that there are people in this world who have been punched down on for so long, yet still provide art as poignant and intelligent as this. Thank you.
41 years old here sitting listening to this with my 83-year-old dad. He has always been a fan of Scarface. He bought me my first cassette tape “Mr. Scarface is Back” when I was a kid. This Tiny Desk Concert was awesome and his band is world-class.

Story telling, picture painting, the raw emotion in his delivery, subject selection, lyricism, face is the greatest in my eyes and top 3 in every real hip hop heads catalogue
Man, I am 50 years old and when I say THIS hit differently...these lyrics hit SO different. I'm a high school teacher and when I say there's a lesson in the music...THERE IS. I guess I've seen and lived through quite a bit. Scarface, thanks for this short journey❤️🙏🏿.
Man… I’ll admit I didn’t really grow up with Scarface’s music, but I respected how folks held him in the rap convo. Today, I understand… innerstand, overstand. This right here was a masterclass of MCing and storytelling, not only from the music but to the stage presence as well. Well done 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 As an artist myself, I’m deeply inspired and reinvigorated by this performance. 🙏🏿❤️
Definitely a legend in his own right. Take some time to listen to his catalog from DJ Akshen to his progression into Scarface. I'm 39 and grew up on Scarface since a kid because of my older cousins. He's my favorite artist and always has been. A running joke, yet reality, is that folks from DC will always have Scarface as their top 3 artists when it comes to a certain age group 😂😂😂

My first experience of Scarface was when he came out with “Mind Playing Tricks on Me” in 1991. His voice captivated me and the lyrics painted a picture for me like no other artist ever had! “Seen a Man Die” was the first song to ever make me cry as I listened to every word. I absolutely LOVED this Tiny Desk Concert session! ❤
Scarface and Mike Dean raised the bar to the highest in the Tiny Desk history. After this performance, artists who are planning to do a tiny desk concert, will think twice to do it or not.
Scarface was truly one of hip hop's most underrated artist. Everyone had their own distinct style back then, but no other artist could capture the darker aspects of life the way Face could. Whoever is responsible for this episode deserves a raise IMMEDIATELY. This was incredible.
Face is USUALLY in a ton of people's Top 10 lists.... and is usually in a ton of people's Top 3 Southern Rappers.... I started listening to Geto Boys in like 1990.... the way he grew musically over the years is CRAZY
I totally agree. It’s like the music took him to another place in time. While the music was playing, he was reminiscing about the events that brought the ideas of his songs.
This is my favorite Tiny Desk. Face's passion for the art is inspiring man. I'm so grateful he made it through his surgery, we lost too many legends this year, I wasn't ready to lose Face too.
We would all be so lucky to see and hear that happen (unfortunately, it won't and I won't say why because those guys are near and dear to my heart) ... but if it did ... CLASSIC!
Quik would be in his element here. That’s a great suggestion. And while we’re on that, what ever happened to that EP that Face and Quik were supposedly working on together a while back?
Let us not forget the healrh obstacles Face had to overcome. He was struggling for awhile. His comeback is beyond amazing. He got his rest and came back strong as ever.
I was thinking about that the entire time. I saw him in concert about 2 years ago and he was very ill then. He said he wasn’t feeling well and he looked ill, so to see this was so refreshing. I absolutely love him. 🔥🔥
Let's focus on the positive and not the negative you the type that I see someone doing well in life and go tell everyone let's not forget he used to be broke what a 🍆
This is one of the most special Tiny Desks I've seen. It felt so good to see Scarface doing his thing conducting as well as rhyming. Such a dope way to bring music together.
I was a bartender on a ship. Worked the night club. Got the meet this man. Aside from personality being in love with hip hop and actually listening from the other side of the world, to getting to shake his hand and exchange a few words, I've never been closer to the culture. Geto Boys ✌️ 🙌 to the ✨ much love Face.
This could literally be a live album and I’ll listen to it start to finish to start my day. Face is in my Top 10 dead or alive. We appreciate you and your contribution to Hip Hop!
The close of this brings tears to my eyes. Face been one of my favorites all of my life. He storytelling is emaculate. It's great to finally see how much care he takes to the actually musicianship of it all too b/c I never realized how emotional and just southern/bluesISH the production was to some of these songs.
People forget how poetic Scarface really is. The way he raps so eloquently with that delivery. Lyrics on point and a beautiful performance which he poured his soul into. Give the man his flowers.
I read this at the very start right when hearing Scarface but not seeing anything and I totally agree. Even the start up hype is in rythm and delivered with flow. The show starts immediately when he opens his mouth.
Mike Dean is a lot of things, but underrated is not one of them. His songs had almost 8 billion streams this year, not to mention his tour with The Weeknd. He’s the biggest producer in the world. lol
@@justinxxiii7035 Mike Dean has a lot of money, but he doesn’t get nearly the recognition… where is he on the list of everyone’s top Producers list… he is probably listed around a bunch of guys who he would have eaten for lunch
He remains one of the BEST ghetto storytellers ever. He makes u picture his lyrics in your mind with his iconic delivery style and voice. UNCLE FACE......., I will always love you.
EASILY the best Tiny Desk I’ve ever seen. What a command Face has over the band, crowd, mic. Dude sounds as good as he did back in ‘90. Pure God Level MC.
I love that he's using a directional mic, but he can't resist turning his head and speaking to the room causing his vocals to drift in and out. The man is holding a sermon and speaking to every person in that room. This is such an incredible tiny desk
@@TheVegasViceManI just love that standing mic when he turn his head side to side we missing some words but still sound great like it was done deliberately and also when his taking his vocals on high peach and low peach it’s so interesting to watch and hear this great performance
Tears rolling down my face rn. Thank you Face! For everything man, for sharing your gift to the world! We was really lucky growing up with this kinda talent and had no idea….
Why do I feel like we owe this man something for doing this for us. Thank you Scarface! But most of all thank you Lord for allowing him to share his gifts with us all over again..
This is what talent looks and sounds like. I can see the passion in him as he lets the music travel through. That band is phenomenal on those instruments.
I’m from Htine. And of course grew up with Scarface loud in everyone’s stereos. I had no idea he was using a full band. Man… this is new life to classic hits.
Tiny Desk literally never misses, but this feels special. I never thought I’d hear these songs arranged live. This IMMEDIATELY shot up into my top 5 Tiny Desk concerts lol Scarface really feel like your favorite uncle/brother/homie.
Finding this out when I have always had Face slamming in the car since an adolescence, and never understood why more people don’t bring him up, and his talent , to find out he plays is TRULY MIND BLOWN STATUS 🤯
Perhaps the best Tiny Desk ever. I've never seen the music and lyrics performed better than the originals. Just like fine wine, they get better as they age.
I’m a 43 year old Memphis native and this means so much to me. I was raised during a time when other regions looked down on the south when it came to rap music, but artists like Scarface came along and made the East and the West put some respect on the South’s name! One luv Face aka DJ Akshen.
I know what you mean. I mean, I’m too young to have experienced it. But from my research, that’s what I gathered especially after watching the source awards from back in the day. The one when Andre 3000 said “the south got something to say”. I can tell they didn’t respect us southerners at first.
A living legend with one of THE best tiny desks of any genre. I hope this causes younger fans to discover his solo and Geto Boys catalogue. He's earned every single flower and accolade.
To see Scarface perform like this is nothing short of AMAZING!! I remember seeing him on RUclips talking with Willie D while battling all of the health issues and I wasn't sure he was going to make it! But seeing him come back and break out all of his hits the way he did, was not only AMAZING, BUT TRIUMPHANT AND INSPIRATIONAL! You can see it in the passion of how he performed! Shout out to Mike Dean, the Band and Background Singers!
I don't ever leave comments but this is hands down one of the best live performances ever captured on video. Thank you Scarface, Mike Dean and the entire Tiny Desk team for blessing us with this.
Watched this with my 4 month old son today. He was having a rough one , couldn't get him settled, acting fussy for hours. Popped this on , and my little man was the happiest little dude on the planet for the rest of the day. Shout out to scar , the band , and npr for making my baby boys day
It's SO GOOD to see Facemob healthy, enthused while performing.. and with his baritone delivery still as commanding and informing as ever. We see you bro!
Scarface is a true lyricist, hands down! Im 54 and turned my son on to Scarface when he was a little kid. He's 30 now and still remember the lessons we learned from Scarface. Telling stories through hip hop!
Real Talk. Used to have my oldest son riding with me in my Fleetwood, him in his car seat, head bobbin', soaking in this goodness. & Now he's 23, Majoring in Music. & I didn't push him to do it, just came naturally. 💯🇨🇱👌🏾🙏🏾✌🏾
I'm a 61 year old boomer who loves all music - huge part of my life. This performance? Maaaaan, alive. Moved me - made me reflective and so happy I was moved to tears. Music makes the world go round!
Born and raised in Texas. No matter where I sleep, Houston is always home and in my heart. When people mention Scarface I don’t think about the movie, I think about the real Scarface. A true legend, storyteller, one of the greatest to put the pen to the paper, and produce music. This video shows his versatility. He is so underrated and I just appreciate this session so much. Thank you 🙏

We would all be so lucky to see and hear that happen (unfortunately, it won't and I won't say why because those guys are near and dear to my heart) ... but if it did ... CLASSIC!
Ooh 😮
.❤😂🎉😢😮😅 😊😮
Nah bro. It will ruin this show. Hard to top that tbh.
Yesssss!!!
Instant classic. This is right up there with Juvenille for the best NPR (Rap) Concert ever. Can we PLEASE get DJ Quik on here?? PLEASE????????
Quik would be in his element here. That’s a great suggestion. And while we’re on that, what ever happened to that EP that Face and Quik were supposedly working on together a while back?
@@moussegarbonzo8352 Yes he would! I am going to see Quik out here in Oakland on 1/20 with a live band at Yoshi's. I can't wait!!!
Absolutely this needs to happen! Great suggestion sir 🫡
This was the comment I needed. Agree on all counts!
Yes. Dj Quik.
Let's focus on the positive and not the negative you the type that I see someone doing well in life and go tell everyone let's not forget he used to be broke what a 🍆
The shoutout to PAC was Amazing!!!!😢 RIP to one of the greatest ever.Scarface is awesome in his own right!Tiny Desk is awesome also!Crazy Awesome
This is one of the most special Tiny Desks I've seen. It felt so good to see Scarface doing his thing conducting as well as rhyming. Such a dope way to bring music together.

I love how they’re doing our favorite old school artists. Tiny desk took the mtv unplugged theme and flipped it. I respect it.
MTV Unplugged 2.0 was my immediate thought! 🔥🔥
I'm so happy my dad showed this to me, we sat down and just chilled thru the whole show together. Hip-Hop of this caliber needs to make a comeback!

Music was different grown up little man
It’s gone and gone forever. We can only look back
I was a bartender on a ship. Worked the night club. Got the meet this man. Aside from personality being in love with hip hop and actually listening from the other side of the world, to getting to shake his hand and exchange a few words, I've never been closer to the culture. Geto Boys ✌️ 🙌 to the ✨ much love Face.
Scarface’s tone, lyricism, musicianship, and delivery paints a picture perfectly! This was beyond dope!
Perfectly said!
Mos Def
No doubt
He's always been an underrated genius..
Better than lil Wayne any day
It's his passion for me. To feel your own music years later into tears. He gave his rap too much soul
That’s what music is ultimately missing today. The OG’s of the 90s & early 2000’s put their heart and soul into the music.

Trust me, I don't forget. He's still one of my top 10.
@@yannikkissa9419 Top 10 dead or alive without question!
@@punppis Right? He’s so passionate and genuinely enjoying being in the moment. Just a joy to behold.
Greatest in my opinion
Mike Dean is killin’ the keys! This whole concert is an example of beautiful music and poetry that’s timeless.
Maaaaan lol crazy
You tripping Big Homie
💯👌🏾
He’s made a lot of hits for texas rappers 🔥🔥
❤
Mike Dean is criminally underrated, bro! He is an animal behind the boards!
And the guitar too ✨️
Mike Dean is a lot of things, but underrated is not one of them. His songs had almost 8 billion streams this year, not to mention his tour with The Weeknd. He’s the biggest producer in the world. lol
Mike Dean made them keys scream..oh my
@@justinxxiii7035 Mike Dean has a lot of money, but he doesn’t get nearly the recognition… where is he on the list of everyone’s top Producers list… he is probably listed around a bunch of guys who he would have eaten for lunch
Man what 🔥🔥
Idk juvenile’s was lit..but this top 3 for sure
Soooo good
@@ShawnNDaHoodwhen Face wakes up he rubs the juvenile out his t eyes... 😤
@joaquincareca9254 stop it
I love that he's using a directional mic, but he can't resist turning his head and speaking to the room causing his vocals to drift in and out. The man is holding a sermon and speaking to every person in that room. This is such an incredible tiny desk
Not to nit pick but, yea I wish to god they wouldn't have used that mic.
@@TheVegasViceManI just love that standing mic when he turn his head side to side we missing some words but still sound great like it was done deliberately and also when his taking his vocals on high peach and low peach it’s so interesting to watch and hear this great performance
very delibrate and intentional to cause effect in words. Scarface is a master.
Classic
Just about to make a comment about mic etiquette lol
I'm sure I'll be responsible for 50k views. Shout out to NPR Tiny Desk, Mike Dean, Facemob, and the entire band. This is legendary 🙌

Tears rolling down my face rn. Thank you Face! For everything man, for sharing your gift to the world! We was really lucky growing up with this kinda talent and had no idea….
Not gonna lie me too, like hearing my childhood all in one video. Great times when facemob ran the airwaves.
Man you speak for all of us
Couldn’t help it, you heard this and felt every word.

Why do I feel like we owe this man something for doing this for us. Thank you Scarface! But most of all thank you Lord for allowing him to share his gifts with us all over again..
We do. This is phenomenal. Timeless
They need to bring Face back, his catalog is long and full of back to back to back CLASSICS. Scarface is the GREATEST MC to bless the mic
Hear Hear ❤
I really didn't think the Juvenile Tiny Desk could be outdone. As a Face fan, this one gave me chills!
Juvenile, big daddy Kane, and this together in a group is a vibe
T-Pain was brilliant too, hard to beat.
💯

Juve still better
They gotta release this like they use to release the MTV Unplugged albums. ❤🎉
💯
Mac Miller's family estate released his NPR TD on vinyl last year I believe, would be dope to see this become a more common occurance!
This is what talent looks and sounds like. I can see the passion in him as he lets the music travel through. That band is phenomenal on those instruments.
Agreed! 💯

I love it.. realy good
Scarface defines a real musician, and the band sounds amazing. 🎶🎧🎵🎼 It was one of the best performances I've seen on this platform.
I’m from Htine. And of course grew up with Scarface loud in everyone’s stereos. I had no idea he was using a full band. Man… this is new life to classic hits.
Brother I've always been a fan of scarface... But even as a die hard fan I just witnessed his Artistry. Brava Scarface
31 minutes and 27 seconds of pure nostalgia. Scarface, Facemob, Mike Dean, and the whole crew, thanks for starting out our Christmas of 2024 this way.
Truly a wonderful Christmas gift

This year it's Christmas of '23 my guy. Next year '24... and so on...
Tiny Desk literally never misses, but this feels special. I never thought I’d hear these songs arranged live. This IMMEDIATELY shot up into my top 5 Tiny Desk concerts lol Scarface really feel like your favorite uncle/brother/homie.

Keep in mind Face can actually play all of the instruments up there. A living legend at the height of his powers!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Orange Mound
I know what you mean. I mean, I’m too young to have experienced it. But from my research, that’s what I gathered especially after watching the source awards from back in the day. The one when Andre 3000 said “the south got something to say”. I can tell they didn’t respect us southerners at first.
Memphis? The place is terrible! Rest in peace Young Dolph.
the west always respected the south. most of our parents and grandparents are from the south. west coast never looked down on the south. thats ny

I agree 💯
Yeah I remember that
He also said he’d never perform “Mind Playin’ Tricks” without Willie again. Yet here we are.
This Tiny Desk deserves way more views than this. Close your eyes and listen. The storytelling is perfection.

Scarface deserves the comeback of the year award he looking very healthy and motivated
I don't ever leave comments but this is hands down one of the best live performances ever captured on video. Thank you Scarface, Mike Dean and the entire Tiny Desk team for blessing us with this.

I agree. One of my fav albums
Also the fix and untouchable
Also Made and Emeritus
Also The Last of A Dying Breed and Deeply Rooted

Insanely good. Scarface is the definition of legendary. Dude raps like he could narrate a Ken Burns documentary. Nobody else like him.
This was absolutely incredible. This should win an award or something. And he should take this on the road ASAP.
Yes. 100%
Agreed. This records got a lot of soul.
He has. Checked him out twice already. All live instrumentation 🔥🔥🔥
He DOES take it on the road. That's why they sound so good. He been on the road w/ a live bands for YEARS now.
@lokiexcelsior - Oh wow, I honestly didn't know. Never heard of him coming my way but will be on the lookout. I'd love to see this live.

Praying hand over my brotha. You’ve helped me so much me and my dad, rest in peace. Played you all the time. Your music is my diary. 💎✊🏽🙏
Scarface is a true lyricist, hands down! Im 54 and turned my son on to Scarface when he was a little kid. He's 30 now and still remember the lessons we learned from Scarface. Telling stories through hip hop!
The Real OG & King of the South!

Mike Dean is a monster, they need to make this available on all platforms
What’s crazy is I went to Apple Music to try and find this. I listen to this on and off ever since it dropped. An absolute masterpiece
