For Texas producers, and even more if you play instruments and produce......Mike Dean is ultimate inspiration and this interview damn near could bring a mf to tears. This the type of shit to make you not give up on your dreams. Thank you Donnie
I rewatched this again just now. Mike Dean, Bido, NO Joe, and Mr. Lee are production geniuses and Rap-A-Lot in the 90s and 2000s was so crazy and still honestly slept on. Just so many classics. Thx for this interview
Mike Dean is one of my favorite producers of all time. I been a fan of him since the 90's, when he was an in-house producer for Rap-A-Lot Records, producing some of the best beats that I ever heard for rappers like Scarface, Yukmouth, Geto Boys, A-G-2-A-KE, Z-Ro, Do Or Die, The Ghetto Twinz, etc...
I have to say, I love all of your interviews DH but this one is hands down...my favorite. Most of Houston has no idea who or what Mike Dean has done for our city as far as music goes. He is definitely our diamond in the ruff.
How do you "randomly" jam out with Eddie Hazel at 16? Thats not normal. People wait their entire lives to meet people like Eddie... This guy was extremely blessed
It’s obvious his musical ability was far from “normal” he was teaching his music theory class while still being in the class so he was for sure a standout
When he mentioned "The Great Eddie Hazel" he got me. M.D was annoyed to be great. You hanging out in 3rd Ward casually playing with one of the greatest "rock and roll" guitars of all time, the same guy Prince said was the greatest Axe-man he every shared a stage with , Eddie The GOAT !!! Freaking Amazing!
Donnie! Thank you for continuing to conduct incredible interviews that shed light on Houston’s vibrant music history. This Mike dean interview is filled with so many gems and nuggets. Two absolute H-Town legends in one awesome video!
Keep doin these classic interview. You a Southern Rap Tunes historian. All these interviews come with never before told stories and it’s crazy to see how knitted the Houston rap scene was.
I could listen to Mike Dean talk for days. Dude has so many stories to tell. I really do hope he puts out a book 1 day. Or a documentary even. I cant believe RAL and the recording spots were all close to where I lived and I never even knew it all those yrs. I wanted to rap so bad but never was able to get my foot in any doors bc I was so young and my parents werent down with the idea.
I was so glued to this interview I didn't want it to end. I know he's got stories for day's. I wanna hear him talk more about 3-2 I wanted to hear about him and Ro. Donnie thank you sir. I always wanted to see a Mike Dean interview.. Still need a Chamillionaire interview lol been calling for it's all good lol. Thank you again for this. God bless 🙏🏼
I 2nd that Chamillionaire interview! I wanna hear him talk more about music than tech and investments like he does on all the other interviews he's done.
From his accounts, it's no wonder why I always considered Face the king of the south at the time. And mad respect to RapALot for signing them boys from Chicago because I distinctly remember local Chicago artists talking about the industry overlooking them.
Only thing I knew about this dude before this interview was his name I heard in couple houston rap songs. I admire how humble he is and it is refreshing to see. Amazing interview, thanks for bringing him on the pod Donnie!
DAMN DONNIE YOU BACK AT IT AGAIN STARTING TRILL THOUSAND 23 WITH AN INSTANT CLASSIC......IVE HEARD OF HIS NAME BUT NEVER SEEN HOW HE LOOKED LIKE LIVING LEGEND FRFR SALUTE 💯
man this white dude here Mike Dean is a FKN legend FRFR! I remember as a young mf in Louisiana back in the late 80's early 90's hearing bout Mike Dean. Good to see he out here still doin it. D. Being from d.c rap-a-lot and facemob was what we was bumping when we turned the go go off. But being young and reading the inserts of the c.d’s all you seen was mike dean and all the songs especially my favorites. I been searching on RUclips to hear about his connection wit rapalot but when I would search all it would talk about is his songs with Travis Scott. Music wise he a goat many don’t talk about
Great interview, such an amazing muscian and producer. When he casually said that him and scarface invented a new language I nearly fell off the couch laughing.
I’m from Cleveland Ohio all I knew of Mike Dean was when he was shouted out on rap a lot songs I always wondered who he was growing up in the 90s this was a fire interview
This is another awsome rare interview from mr donnie H.I always heard of Mike dean from face cuz hes my goat and knew he was a heavy hitter in the production and engineering side of the hip hop scene. Then when lil J put in his book about him producing on kanye and Jay z shit and he seemed like he felt some type of way about it,it made me even more curious about this guy,but there aren't many interviews or stuff to see or read about Mike dean.Just the same way I waited for years to hear what happened between flip and succa free and I got all those answers thru the hump interview brought to you by none other then Mr donnie H again. In the first 5 minuites he was talking about angleton and freeport,I went to angleton high school and work in freeport, crazy he taught the class at angleton high school thats how advanced he was. Anyway preciate the interview donnie real talk brother keep up the good work.
Wow man I knew Mike dean was special but Sheesh I didnt kno he did all that for this wicked music industry salute 2 him man well respected & great interview
Yeah, Mike Dean did a great job on the Z-Ro albums they worked on together, specifically "The Life of Joseph W. McVey", "Let The Truth Be Told" and "I'm Still Livin". Mike Dean did a phenomenal job on those albums.
Mike Dean has so much info and stories but he has a hard time verbalizing sometimes in alot of other interviews I've seen....glad Donnie got to chop it up with OG Mike 💯

I rewatched this again just now. Mike Dean, Bido, NO Joe, and Mr. Lee are production geniuses and Rap-A-Lot in the 90s and 2000s was so crazy and still honestly slept on. Just so many classics. Thx for this interview
He's worked with everyone from Selena to Rap a Lot to the Weekend and everybody in between. That's a crazy catalogue.
Mike Dean is the truth!! Such a humble dude man!! He’s one of a kind
Imagine producing Selena’s first record 🤯
Imagine the music they’d make together if she was still around. 🤯
Yo Mike Dean has his stamp all over music industry

@@jgonzales6429 Absolutely. Even so, that was an amazing by chance encounter with arguably the greatest guitarist to ever live.
