    At the end of the video, Rick Rubin talks about being open and observant to forces of the universe guiding you toward an idea. As an artist, I have found that this is indeed the case. It is a real phenomenon. Once you open yourself up to the gentle nudging the universe has to offer, you will never be searching for new ideas, new ideas will be presenting themselves on a constant and continual basis when you are in the open and observing mindset.

    • @DK-jg5vk
      @DK-jg5vk Год назад +7

      By the way... also true. If you get a really good idea and don't act on it, in time someone else will get the same idea and they will act on it. It's happened to me... just sayin'....

    • @DK-jg5vk
      @DK-jg5vk Год назад +13

      @@DilminPerera I think the best way is to go someplace where you've never been before, like a part of the city you live in or a town you've never been to, and you just walk around without any plan and see what draws your attention. When something draws you just go toward it, explore it and try to figure out why it has a pull on your attention. Try doing this with a clear mind and no itinerary. Engage in conversation with strangers you meet along the way. Open yourself up to the infinite possibilities and trust that the universe will show you things you need to see. That's how you start.

    • @DK-jg5vk
      @DK-jg5vk Год назад +7

      Also do something that you always thought you should do or wanted to do in the back of your mind but have never done. This could be going to an art show opening or a lecture or jumping in your car for a weekend road trip with no plan or map. You're sure to discover something that will be meaningful for a long time to come. I think this whole process of connecting with the universe involves moving out of your comfort zone and just getting out and exploring. I live in Michigan and once took a road trip to the east coast with no real plan, no hotel reservations, just a book of "off the beaten path" attractions and that was one of the greatest vacations of my life.

    • @XBret64
      @XBret64 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@DK-jg5vk I got to have such a road trip 3 years ago, it was a 20 day pilrimage to the west coast and back and it was by far one of the coolest things I've ever done in my life. My first 3 or 4 days were really uncomfortable and infuriating, but once i removed all my expectations of the trip, and took everything as it came, thats when i truly started to have the time of my life. And its really true what you say about getting out and moving to find things that are meaningful, thats the easiest way to do it.

I had an idea for a music video once and a year or so later, Dax did literally did it. I believe all ideas are out there and we can tune into the frequency and catch those ideas. I don’t think I’d ever give someone the advice of following their passion without also warning them of the real possibility that no one in the whole wide world will ever share, or have any interest at all, in that passion with them. He touches upon that possibility a couple of times, pointing out how sometimes it (what you create from you passion) doesn’t connect. Or maybe it’s not in the cards for that person to have that success. True. And when it comes to work ethic, it’s not about doing the work to create something. What matters is how much effort you put into self promotion and networking to gain whatever attention is required for your creative contribution to not die in solitude. Especially if what you have created is something that lies outside the bounds of being easily relatable. If the passion you follow is to create things that are easily understood and relatable, you will not have to work hard to get the recognition that allows you to share what you’ve done. If what you have created is not easily understood, or perhaps is even offensive to normality, tradition and relatability, you will need to work much harder to generate any interest. So sure, follow your passion. But don’t be surprised or disappointed if no one ever gives a shit about you and what you’ve created.

    • @loganm15
      @loganm15 Год назад +3

      In the last sentence you make it seem like following your passion is a horrible thing to do?? The only attention that your art needs is your own, no one should need to depend on outside acceptance for what they made, as long as one can please themselves through their art then that's all that matters

    • @pentacleman1000
      @pentacleman1000 Год назад +1

      @@loganm15 Yes, external validation *shouldn’t* matter. But to many, it *does*. So my statement is an acknowledgement that people who *want* external validation might be disappointed, when following their passion doesn’t get them any of that. Hence, my thought about *not* telling someone to follow their passion, unless I am certain they are mentally prepared to *not* get that validation from anyone but themself. If you are absolutely certain that someone has no interest in getting any external validation, then sure, tell them to follow their passion. But if you suspect that even a small part of their passion involves sharing what they make, with an expectation that people will like it and praise them for it, I would warn them about the possibility that no one ever will.

    There’s a kind of “spiritual obedience” being discussed here. I relate to that. Seeing past what everyone else SEEMS to be assuming; and pointing out that underlying principle that seems to be kind of protruding from the woodwork… except the woodwork is like the veil of the space between objects and these things kind of just come out, like a wormhole created by Dr. Strange or something.
    I tried to describe this process to my brother who is a Major in the Air Force. He nodded his head and said, “Yeah. Yeah. It’s called ‘Leadership’.”

      When we say something is instinctive or comes from talent, I'd dare say those are our best moments and those moments are not coming from a person. It's exactly obedience and it really is coming from something like God or quantum or the universe or some shit, not you as a person. When the ego dissolves, when it's just love and enjoyment, not making money or getting a job done, that's when we become the instruments of something bigger than ourselves.
      It's a wonderful experience.
      Funny enough it usually leads to all sorts of achievements and successes for the individual.

    • @TarzanHedgepeth
      @TarzanHedgepeth Год назад +15

      @@deneb3552 Most indeed. I agree. When left to my own devices, no matter how much I THINK I know, I come up short.
      Absolutely agree that when I do good, it MUST be God; not me. The evidence speaks for itself.
      What’s really hard is knowing what to do IN BETWEEN those moments… or maybe, I misjudge and I AM being used, but I just don’t like it sometimes? I might think I know a thing or two - but, really, no matter how much science I can do, maybe what I perceive to be good and right… maybe it just isn’t?
      There’s an interview with John Mayer where he talks about writer’s block being when the “reader doesn’t agree with what the writer is doing”(in the mind). And the question is, IS THE READER WRONG?
      And life is like that, too…
      Maybe, the observer (in the mind) doesn’t agree with what the performer is doing; but maybe the observer is wrong?
      And so there is this cognitive dissonance that goes along with being God’s instrument…
      Because the flesh disagrees with the spirit.
      And on the point of quantum, or the universe - it is well known that there is a debate as to whether quantum is really describing a probabilistic universe, or whether it only APPEARS that way because of our inability to compute all the aspects of literally every single utterly fundamental event… which we know we can’t do; there are just too many particles/localized packets of energy to even begin to do that; and they’re moving too quickly, and their trajectories are still theoretical because we have to make a lot of assumptions based on what we THINK we know…
      So, at the most fundamental physical level, we’re still playing with numbers too complex for us to put into understanding - but our MINDS can visualize; we can slow those events down, and imagine them microscopically, and play out the dynamics and the fluid motions… but proving what the mind can visualize is a near impossible feat. It can be communicated, and then there are those who can visualize and agree and others who can’t visualize and so are relegated to trusting only in what they can control - the numbers. The irony being that numbers are merely a macro-physical representation of yet another abstract; but it doesn’t seem that way to those who rely on merely their physical senses…
      Um…
      My point was that, yeah; God is beyond our numbers, the universe MIGHT NOT BE, but His control over it is not going to be predictable no matter how good we become at that…
      So who are we to think that when we made a good decision, that it was US that did it?
      It seems rather arrogant to me… but arrogance is only reserved for those who have the hubris to go against what is seemingly known; so it’s just an extreme lack of an awareness…
      Just like when you plant the tree, grow the tree, cut down the tree, work the lumber, whittle some blocks, square them off, and show the toddler who you feed and raise and teach to stack the blocks; then he stacks the blocks and he says, “I DID IT!” And you say, “Yes, you did it. 👏”
      And before all that, God created the universe within with the sun and earth reside, the sun’s warmth, the earth’s green, he made the trees to exist and to grow, made the tree an object that COULD be worked, made stones which can BECOME metal, made the physics which makes it POSSIBLE to make saws and sawmills, and made the air which the hands breath that are ABLE to fashion out of those materials the blocks which were made possible by the control of dimension in the first place, the forces that allow the blocks to be stacked, the processes which allow you to have a son to teach, the heart to love, the mouth to speak, the concept of teaching and glory and success…
      But, “We did it. 👏”

    • @deneb3552
      @deneb3552 Год назад +8

      @@TarzanHedgepeth haha, exactly...nice picture with the tree I dig. I think we literally can't do wrong because everything happens for a reason. Maybe it's a better way to think about it like "how can I achieve this state of being in agreement with myself and just enjoy being, doing, creating whatever" that flow or zen state and I'm telling you, there are pretty mechanical, easy, free and in a very literal sense "natural" ways, methods to get there. Then it becomes something like a path, the more you walk on it, the easier it becomes to get there. Because you know where you're going. That's basically meditation, a psychedelic experience with intention, maybe a NDE I suppose, I never had the latter.
      Anyway, it's interesting how "creativity" is fundamental to a balanced, peaceful life like that. Even if you're not an "artist" which you are if you live like this whatever you do turns into art anyway.
      One thing is for sure, we gotta be humble and try and overcome our egos. That single thing, even just the intention makes everything much better. Things just start to click.

    This reminds me of the parable of the sower in the Bible. Ideas are the seeds coming down to different people (soils). In order to grow something great you need to be open, ready, and have the skills/work ethic to execute on the idea. Just like how the soil has to be prepared before a seed can grow.

    My issue is: ever since I was a kid I’ve been intuitive, creative and visual. It’s all I’ve known most of my life. I pursued acting from a young age and at 22 now I’ve learned and accomplished quite a lot. But. Art isn’t just art alone and the world doesn’t work like that, it’s also a business and coming from a background of pure creativity it’s like trying to speak a foreign language to get into a position where you can show off that creative ability, and you have to HOPE that by the time you get there the business side hasn’t killed your creativity.

    A couple of points to help:
    1: Overall mixed resonance (which can potentially be missed out on and end up with possibly unintentional effects on the other hand or intentional - which you can be sneaky - more or less - with). One way to think of that is mixing two colors together to make a third one that neither of the first two can do by themselves, this mechanic also applies to frequencies.
    2: When you say "They'll like this", do you mean "like" as in what really resonates with you or "like" when at least one of many positive emotions are experienced (especially ones you and maybe many others deem "fitting")?

    It also helps to be born into certain demographics with family and connections in a major entertainment city (NY/LA). I went to NYU Film and saw these variables over and over again. Not saying this was the case with Rick Rubin (*he lived in Weinstein dorm a few years before me, so I'm told), but it's astonishing to me how often this bit of objective reality is glossed over or not mentioned at all, in favor of vague mystical assurances like 'follow your passion'. In all fairness, there are some (Jarmusch, Warhol) who are not from those major cities, starting up without built in connections etc, but I'm asserting this in an important variable that's not really 'fashionable' to mention
