He was a member of 2 Legendary crews. Juice Crew [Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, Roxanne Shante, etc] and Crooklyn Dodgers [Memphis Bleek, Mos Def, Jean Grae, Chubb Rock, etc]. He's been legendary since the 80s.
Those are definitely not the members I think of when I think of the Crooklyn Dodgers. My mind goes to Chubb Rock, fair enough, but also Special Ed, Buckshot, Jeru, and OC.
This is where it originally came from. Soul and funk. Not that todays bullshit like nicki minaj e.g. anyways, big up for grandmaster, premo, dre and all that people who developed it in the past and those who are still trying to make it last! ;)
You'd be surprised how many hiphop groups used live music. Roots, stetsasonic, numerous others... even PE and nwa had live instruments on some tracks. Masta ace has been ill since the Symphony

Masta Ace just destroyed that mic. You can hear what a good musician he is by how well his voice matches the instruments regardless of what key the song is.
Doderio Larkisso a certain "sect" of the hip-hop community. Those who know of him understand his talent, but there also a lot of rap fans who unfortunately know nothing of him/ Juice Crew/ Marley Marl. Not that lists mean anything, but when I hear publications start talking about greatest M.C.s, Masta Ace is never given the credit he's due. So I'd say given his talent and years in the game, the props he's given is nowhere near the props he deserves.

When Masta started explaining the "Story of Me" song we got touched hearing it, and honestly the song made me cry before even the 1st verse was finished... (Took me 15 years to undestand my worth) put a like on the video if you relate and if Masta Ace touched your heart aswell
I come and listen to this all the time. This is such a great performance. The music, the feel, the lyrics all go together to create such a powerful vibe. Master Ace and his crew truly brought something special to TinyDesk. This is top 5 tinydesk for sure in my opinion.
