The only rock n roll or rockabilly Elvis ever recorded was with Sam Phillips. I switched my allegiance to Jerry Lee Lewis about the time Elvis went into the army. I trust my own response more than I trust anything else (when it comes to rock n roll, that is) and I don't argue with anyone else's. But it is notable to me that Elvis never jammed much with other musicians. He (or somebody) got his band together when he was very young and, as far as I know, the personnel stayed stable. And they stuck together like a clique of self-absorbed high-school boys.
seeing all those superstars in tuxedos is kind of lame. Its kind of like there's Chuck berry, and then there's everybody else, but they are all great musicians, especially Johnny Johnson on piano, and not sidemen.
