I drove all the competitors to the XT5, and nothing had the presence or muscle that the Cadillac did. Audi, BMW, and Mercedes all made the exact same damn crossover. There is nothing between the three outside of the badge that makes them look any different. Their interiors are full of knobs and buttons and other things you can’t use when moving down a freeway. CUE is an awesome system and I have never understood why anyone would have any issue using it. Why we Americans feel an imported auto is better just because it’s imported is beyond me. I love my XT5, and the new generation of Cadillac in general. They look strong, classy, and powerful. You know one when you see one. I can’t say the same for the cookie cutter imports. Team Cadillac all day everyday.

I always find it baffling when journalists do this. You note the difference between the base price of the vehicle and the as tested price, and proceed to gripe about the as tested price as if it exists with no justification.
Here's an idea, instead of telling me that 70k is entirely too much for an XT5 with options and expecting me to take your word for it, how about some justification? What are the options? Do they function well? And if so, why is it then not worth the price? Maybe you believe they should be standard features? Maybe they're charging entirely too much, and those options are on competitive vehicles for a fraction of the cost? Who knows, you didn't say.
That aside, I think I'd prefer a car I liked for 40k, optioned to 70k than a car for 70k with none of the stuff I wanted. I mean, if the options present the value I seek, why would I gripe about the price of them?

You're 100% correct. $69k for a reworked equinox chassis?? I love cadillac but that's insane. I'd do a Velar, Stelvio, or F Pace in a heartbeat. They should've taken the ATS chassis and built something unique and special not an also ran. Their other product basically have great personality. The original SRX had great personality but was just bloated

WRONG Mercedes Breath! This Caddy is very attractive. Better than any other SUV on the road.

I typically like Jeff's review but I think he picks at his personal preferences of the cars design too much vs a general review. I think it looks nice and don't mind it's design "flaws" but that's just me. Besides that I agree with his other points.

I swear that you are the best honest auto journalist I've ever seen since I knew auto channels 10 years ago. You just said it, I don't even see anything excites me to pay 70 k on this plastic front that won't last with sun lights for 2 years !

Great Review. I agree that the pricing on this XT5 and most modern Cadillacs is kind of crazy. Not sure why GM wants to charge so much.

Is there anyway to hide those less than pretty roof racks?? Is there a space to hide them away in the cargo area? Sounds like a better idea than running around with nothing clamped to them.....

That's the bad thing about cookie cutter engines. You can buy a cheaper model with the same base engine, but with slightly different tuning & octane requirements.
