Despite being a frequent flyer, I always get excited with engine start up on push back, the spool when the plane starts taxiing and that initial roar that turns into a quieter whirl as the plan speeds up on take off run. Such power. Such beautiful sounds!

It's always amazing to see this plane fly and around 5:15 PM and line up with runway 27R at Sky Harbor. gets even better when it lines up over my house in Mesa right at Val Vista and Brown. BTW If you see some dorky guy waving at you when you're looking out from the window on the left hand side of the plane, it may be me

One of my favorite things to look forward to as a kid living in Phoenix was to look for this plane every evening around 5pm ... memories ... always wanted to take this fight, but now its gone.
I live in Phoenix too, been on this route 3 times as a child. Don't remember which aircraft I took though, because I was too young. Sadly I won't be travelling on a BA 747 anymore, but I hope to travel this route sometime in the near future.
When I made this trip it was so amazing to me that from departure to arrival we went along with the Sun and landed in the same day, 12 hours later. Mind boggling. What shook me was the temperature once I stepped out of the airport. Direct hot slam in my face.
When I used to work at Boeing in Mesa and left at the end of the day, I would normally see BA289 flying in from Heathrow. It's still a thrill to occasionally track this transatlantic flight through Flightradar 24 from beginning and then see BA289 flying in.
There are people who've been travelling in 1st class all their lives yet never video tape, and then you have those who find even the slightest upgrade the best thing ever. It's like a scale, really, from 1 to 10. Excitingly random world.

I did this flight back in 2008. I'm glad to see they continued using the 747 for all this time. With the pandemic killing the demand for super Jumbo's, we're gonna miss the uniqueness of the 747 and A380
The A380s aren't dissapearing in every airline. Emirates, Korean Air, Quantus, and Singapore Airlines still have numerous A380s going strong. But they have officially ended service with them with Lufthansa and Air France
And Lufthansa have brought back many of their A380s for a while as well as still flying the 747s on some routes at the time of posting. When it comes to the latter I imagine they won’t be around too much longer though so use em while you can!
Actually if you've paid attention to the end, it shows that the flight arrived in August of 2016. He posted the vid in January of this year and it was easy to mistake it for a flight that took place just this year. Temps. in Phoenix would've not been in triple digits if this flight was indeed taken around the immediate date before it was posted.
I agree any news on a rival to the Airbus 380, seems like Boeing are just going down the economy route with the 787 with its composite based light materials and efficiency
RB211s were optioned on 747s when I was an apprentice at Qantas. From memory, they introduced more power and fuel efficiency at the same time by using 3 spools. Nice to watch them in action.
14:20 has to be one of the most beautiful images of uk I’ve ever ever seen from a plane. Insane to think major cities like Exeter, Torquay, Bournemouth, Cornwall is just below visible in one shot .

Nothing like the first generation gas-guzzling 747s with the reverse thrusters behind the engine at landing and all the other loud mechanical noises throughout the flight! Loved every minute of it! JFK to MAD and MAD to JFK 1971, 1972, 1973, 1976 (Pan Am mostly)

I’m glad you have a great flight. You flew in premium economy class. I actually flew in premium economy class on American Airlines. I already went to Switzerland in a few months ago. The legroom is great. Very comfortable for me. My last trips, I didn’t like sit in the economy class from London to Phoenix by last year. I got a bad knees. I went to physical therapy. They fixed my knees.

great video - I watch these big BA birds fly over my house at Langley & Iver in either direction every day - its good to see what you can see from the window seat of one of these sky kings as opposed to looking upwards - great wing flex, especially once the skipper cleans up
I always find the 747-400 wing to be a bit shaky. Those dual engines are dancing on those wings. I am sure it was designed to be mellow but sometimes I think woah thats a bit too much wobble going on.

The engines, and of course the far heavier fuel in the wings, is helpings the wings to avoid flexing.

That 'Over south west England' was in fact over the Llyn Peninsula, North Wales - with Anglesea and the Menai Strait in the background :-)

I used to live in Iver (left in 1992) before I made the USA my home. I always thought that Iver was pretty immune to the takeoff/landing noise.

Good video, good sound quality, in one word excellent work...and just look at those engines doing what they were designed to do. To keep all this metal moving with forward momentum at over 600 kmph while we sit watching movies and drinking coffee. You just got to love it🙂

@@ag6371 how so? Concorde first flew in 1969 and DC10 first flew in 1970, so not sure how DC10 are responsible for the grounding of Concorde?
