That jet burns approximately 1 gallon of fuel per second - but holds more than enough to easily keep it aloft for 10 hours. 800,000 pounds, lifts off the ground effortlessly, blows through the atmosphere at nearly 600mph and on this flight, lands as gently as a falling feather. 747s may be outdated and inefficient compared to 777/787 versions but they still never fail to impress.
Pretty 'rad' that stretch starting around the 15 minute marker. I'd say it's totally extreme - the way the plane flies relatively close to terrain for so many minutes - also EXTREME is the sense that this is one of the most stunningly beautiful views of Earth from above I've ever seen.
I have never flown into Vancouver taking that approach, so it took me a while to recognize the Fraser valley and New Westminster and Burnaby with the river with so many log booms along it's shores.I flew out of there in 1967 in a DC6 to Vernon.
In 1997, long time ago, I have visited Canada, British Columbia and Alberta provinces. Our journey started from Frankfort airport and lead us to Vancouver. Upon " Transat Airlines", a Canadian Airline. Via Scotland, Faroer, Iceland, Greenland....----> Hudson Bay, Manitoba, Saskatchewan---> Alberta to our destination Vancouver. Magnificent. We have crossed Greenland while midnight sun was still shining at 1 a.m. (!). Eleven hours of flight, a break of 45 minutes in Calcary.... 9 hours time zone difference to Germany... 3 days jetleg, but the what a phantastic scenery it was there. UNFORGETTABLE !!! Thank you so much for the upload. With very best regards from old Germany, Rainer
Hard to top the scenery as you approach Vancouver, and your camera handled it well. Appreciate being able to view it full-screen, and still crystal clear. LOVE the 45 second takeoff roll of a loaded 744.
One of the best air trip videos I have seen on RUclips. Gorgeous terrain, excellent video quality and clarity.......I would have liked to jump down on one of those remote lakes with my trout rod!!!!
I hope people who live in British Columbia know how lucky they are because it's one of the most beautiful places on earth. I've been there many times and I'm in love.
Ein wunderbares Video aus einem faszinierendem Flugzeug, von einem sehr interessantem Land und einem perfektem Kameramann.ich freue mich an den Videos.Bitte wetermachen.
+Andreas Richter As with most places, some Canadians are quite friendly. and on the other hand some, as is evidently the case with this jackass, are quite hostile.
+Stacie45 Very true your observation. There are alot of good Canadians, the hostile and arrogant ones like kal are British Columbians that think that the world by default should revolve around Vancouver, and has to take notice. I spent 25 years of my life there, so I know what the "B.C. mentality" is like. And NO Vancouver is not the first, last or only place in the world that has hosted an exposition, world fair, world soccer championship or served as a filming location!
In a world of many hundreds of flight videos, this one stands out as a top ten video for me with the super sharp mountain views. Check out the mountain top lake at 17:54. I can imagine it being pristine and crystal clear, having not been touched by human hands...
I love watching videos of these beautiful jets taking off, landing and flying. I rarely see comments on the pilots and their talents and ability's. My twenty year old nephew earned his pilots license about eight months ago. Three months ago he earned his certification to fly single prop aircraft with retractable landing gear. His goal is to become a commercial airline pilot. I went up with him once so far and it was awesome. I have a lot of respect for pilots. I never knew how much work, dedication, and love of flying it takes to become a pilot. Of course you also need the funds to achieve that goal. My brother makes a good living and my nephew worked his ass off to pay for it so the financial part was the least of his worries to achieve what he has and for what it will take to reach his goal. Whenever you fly just remember the dedication and the love of flying that the pilots have to make sure you and your family get to your destination safely. They deserve the upmost respect.
From all the aviation videos I've seen with cabin views, this one definitely stands out. Lovely view of Fraport with the new runway at Kelsterbach, beautiful glimpses of Rocky Mountains and a terrific approach and landing at Vancouver. Great stuff.
Wonderful but bittersweet for me. I am Canadian born but living in Geneva, Switzerland since 1996. I would often travel home and 2015 was the last time I came for a "normal" Xmas with my parents before my father developed severe dementia and passed away durng the holidays 2017-2018 (was there also fortunately). 2015 I came for a visit and also flew the same Lufthansa flight through Frankfurt and possibly the same 747-400! Same view at any rate.
Here's a bit of a guide: Flying into Vancouver from the northeast.... @8:54 Twin Tree Lake in the Rocky Mountains, Jasper National Park, Alberta..... @10:18 Berg Lake of the "Berg Lake Trail" in Mt. Robson Provincial Park, British Columbia (BC) .... @10:57 Mt. Robson (bottom part of frame) .... @13:06 Wells Gray Provincial Park, with Azura Lake to the North and Angus Home Lake to the South.... @14:43 Harrison Lake, the largest lake in the southern Coast Mountains.... @13:34 Tailings Pond near Logan Lake.... @18:56 Pitt Lake...@ 20:23 Pitt-Addington Marsh.... @21:49 The new Port Mann bridge (10 lanes wide, cable-stayed); in 2012 when it was opened, it was the world's widest long-span bridge at 65 meters....@22:25 Surrey City Centre... @24:42 Metrotown and Central Park (Burnaby). I would encourage you do to further research on the places mentioned. They are some of the most scenic parts of Canada.
Years ago my family traveled to Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper . We also drove north as far as Mt Robson Provincal Park. It was a beautiful day. Not a cloud in the sky. I was able to get a perfect shot of Mount Robson. Hope to return there someday soon !
Beautiful video, beautiful scenery, wonderful job and ...God, the 747!!! Watching videos like this, makes me love planes even more! Thanks for uploading.
Atemberaubende Aussichten aus der B 747! Sehr weiche Landung in Vancouver. Ich mag den Schatten des Flugzeuges in den Wolken und auf dem Boden. Tolles und beeindruckendes Video!!! Danke für´s Teilen mit uns. +++ Breathtaking views from the B 747! Very smooth landing in YVR. Like the airplane shadow in the clouds and on the ground. Great and impressive Video!!! Thank for sharing with us. Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland / Best regards from Germany.
I love that perfect seat where you can look back at the engines and still see all the landscape below. The miracle of flying on a modern aircraft...if only the Wright Brothers could see airplanes now.
Yes, and you could see the long vapor trail behind it. It's kind of interesting how the aircrafts don't start making those trails until going over about 400 mph and are at least 20,000 ft high. You don't see planes taking off and landing making those trails, since only going about 200 mph then.
This video looks like a first or business class window with a nice view of the Canadian Rockies in which it's altitude is higher close to the flight on the route to Vancouver. From the farther north eastern coast of rockies the view shows huge snow capping over the peak, the low pass changes to less snow capping before landing the airport. Very nice job!
Clearly one of the best videos I've ever seen and I've seen some good ones. Such good quality! Stunningly beautiful! Wow! Such a smooth landing too! Thank you!
Ignore BAR 20 BBQ. This is some of the most stunning aviation footage from the main cabin I have ever seen. I have so many questions for you but I will read the other comments from recent videos to see if my questions are answered there. Absolutely amazing!! Well done!
I wrote this here 2 years ago. Now it is buried way down in the older comments section. I know it is way too many words. I may summarize it in point form in the near future. After a lifetime of studying the geography of Western Canada, I have been able to pick out many landmarks along the route of this flight. Up to 7:15, it is the high arctic, at 7:16 it suddenly becomes the Great Plains, or Prairie, of north-west Alberta Province, the Canadian Rocky Mountains, distinctive in shape and color, are hit at 7:30, the lack of roads and an upcoming landmark tell me this is the huge protected regions of northern Jasper National Park and the Willmore Wilderness Provincial Park 500 km east of Edmonton city, they are among the wildest regions of southern Canada. The Reef Icefield, named for the prehistoric marine fossils found in the region and one of several big glaciers in the range, becomes visible at upper left at 8:15 and remote Twintree Lake, its shape and position exact as shown on google maps, becomes visible at 8:42, but the main landmark, positively identified - I know it well - is Mt Robson, 3954 meters/12972 feet, highest in Canada's Rocky Mountains at 10:30 in the lower left corner, that is Berg Lake to the right of it, and Kinney Lake just to the left of it, both are famous trekking areas. Mt Whitehorn is the high peak immediately north of Mt Robson, the view is always looking north and is all in Mt Robson Provincial Park, British Columbia Province, Mt Robson's 3000 meter/10,000 foot high west face is plainly visible at 11:50 at lower right, there are many photos of it on google images, as there are of the north face and Berg Lake. The large and deep valley of the Rocky Mountain Trench - it is 1500 km long - is crossed at 12:00-12:20, the camera then cuts to the northern Columbia Mountains, named after the upper Columbia River, largest in western North America, it starts here and eventually flows into the USA 800 km south, the Fraser River, almost as large, starts here too, it flows 1200 km to the city of Vancouver. At 13:05 the distinctive right angle bend at upper left of Hobson and Azure Lakes in huge Wells Gray Provincial Wilderness Park become visible, most this region is very difficult to access on the ground, even for wilderness travel experts, roads give access to the main features and run through many of the main valleys. At 13:30 the plane crosses into the dry interior basin and plateau region of central British Columbia, it is a mining, timber, wood fiber/paper making and cattle ranching region. At 14:38 the Coast-Cascade Mountains are reached, they run along North America's entire Pacific Ocean Coast, that is the glacial-green north end of Harrison Lake, about 100 km east of Vancouver city. The rest of the flight is over these mountains to Vancouver city, these mountains are obviously still very wild despite their proximity to a city of 2.5 million people, occasionally logging-mining roads and areas where cut-blocks, areas where trees have been removed for timber are visible, it is widespread and does create wealth and employment, but I am pleased that some areas are still undamaged. Prehistoric glacially gouged valleys are visible everywhere, especially at 16:50, the north end of Pitt Lake, the south end almost touches Vancouver's edge, is visible at 18:45, then on to the city, the Fraser River flows through it, the main harbour and the city center are not visible at the base of the mountains in the distance. I lived my early years in Vancouver from 1960-1980 - a great city then, less so now - I have also lived in Calgary and Edmonton, and many towns large and small between these 3 cities, including the famous mountain sport/resort towns of Banff, Jasper, and Whistler. And of course, this airplane was designed and built 250 km south of Vancouver by our good neighbors and friends in Seattle, Washington State, USA, who share many of the geographic features seen in this video which continue farther south into their northern regions.
Hey, I like your description. I've always been interested in picking out geography too. You're really spot-on with each of your descriptions. The high Arctic areas up til 7:15 are beautiful. A frozen tundra where the ground temperatures are probably in the -30s farenheit, but great scenery still. I'm assuming that it's somewhere in the Nunavut or Northwest territories, you'd probably be better than me at guessing which one
Wow , absolutely amazing land here in British Columbia, I left Texas back in 96 to live in Seattle and then moved here in 2000,there is no way I’m leaving here..
If this was i flight simulator i wouldve said that you can clearly see that the wing is an image which has been cut-in to the video. The quality is beyond real! Thanks!!
Very beautiful stunning views indeed. Its like your there in the airplane flying. Flying is so fun and wonderful, I love it. Beautiful mountains, lakes, sceneries of Canada. Aw man, I miss the Lufthansa Boeing 747-400, they used to fly it a lot to KLAX, but once they came out with the 747-8i, they now fly it to LAX, but I noticed its seasonal only, cause they fly their A380 Super Jumbo seasonal also. Miss the 747-400, my favorite plane of the friendly skies the Boeing 747. Nice video, keep up the good work, enjoyed watching it in 1080p HD.
"Top-notch videography from an Airplane. You understand the importance of letting us; 'see what you see'. I've seen so many RUclipsrs zoom in to show us what they 'Think' we will find interesting to see, which ends up asking viewers to guess. I cannot express enough how good your work looks and delivers, so thank you."

Gallon? What's gallon?
Vancouver and the Rockies are beautiful. This video shows them both to great advantage. Thank you.
+Terry Bell Thank you for watching and happy new year !
When you look at this planet from above you realize how beautiful it is
It's pretty amazing
Wow, some of the prettiest scenery from an aircraft, that I have seen. Excellent work.
+Steve Ward thanks very much for the visit and the comment
+Steve Ward ir this is not the FSX this is real life...
"EXTREME" low pass? Seems to be a pretty standard approach to me...
From the stunning scenery to the awesome aircraft shadow on approach and final......this was simply spectacular. :)
Born and raised in Vancouver. Lived here all my life. What a great video from beginning to end.
+Beyond 1000. Thanks a lot, next release coming soon
One of the best flight videos on RUclips. An amazing, beautiful, view of mountainous British Columbia.
The queen of the skies admiring herself, watching her shadow in the clouds! beautiful video. Thank you.

Absolutely stunning! Really great video, fantastic stuff! :)
That plane kissed the earth. What a nice touchdown. And Canada really has some amazing landscapes.
Smooth landing! Great video!
Beautifull terrains, good camera, and this spectacular shadow. Very nice watching video :)

Sorry for the typo : " Calcary...> Calgary "
Beg your pardon.
Thanks for reading.
+Rainer Jahn thanks so much for stopping by and watching !
If I had to pick between a business class ticket with no window and a coach seat with a view like this, I would pick the latter in a heartbeat.
Your camera must be used in movies lol seriously its so crystal clear!
Hard to top the scenery as you approach Vancouver, and your camera handled it well. Appreciate being able to view it full-screen, and still crystal clear.
LOVE the 45 second takeoff roll of a loaded 744.
Who needs 'seat-back' entertainment when you have that to look at out the window; absolutely spectacular! Fantastic video, thank you for sharing.
I really like the last few minutes seeing the plane's shadow on the ground, gives a good idea of how fast it's actually going.
Great video!!!
its flying pretty slow as its coming in to land
If 300 km/h is slow... ahahahahah
Ale Berto its slow compared to high altitude cruising speed
Yeah, it was just a joke...
It's still fast comparing the higest speed allowed for a car to the landing speed of any commercial airplane
One of the best air trip videos I have seen on RUclips. Gorgeous terrain, excellent video quality and clarity.......I would have liked to jump down on one of those remote lakes with my trout rod!!!!
That was the best flight video I've seen. The scenery over canada is incredibly beautiful!

One of the best in-flight video's on the Internet. Thanks for shooting!
Lufthansa is the best and safest airline !!! Who agrees with me
Sweet! Beautiful flight! Loooong take-off roll. Buttery landing! 👍🏼
One of the rather best videos I've seen yet in several years.
A truly amazing testament to how beautiful flying is!! Amazing video mate!!

Enjoyed watching the shadow of plane rite down till touchdown 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Wow those views of the mountains was breathtaking thanx for the video.

Very Nice :) One of the many reasons why I have to have a Window seat.
+Louis Smith you realize this is fake right?
+millhouse NO it's not. I've flown in to YVR many times and on occasion been lucky enough to be on a flight that does fly at a pretty low altitude.
That was absolutely stunning. I literally was watching with my mouth open at one point. Thank you so much for sharing this!!
+blotski thanks so much for watching and the comment
The landscape changes outside the airplane window are diverse.
After all, traveling by plane is a fun trip.
Thank you for the good video.
Beautiful approach! What a gorgeous city!Thank you for this marvelous video!
Vancouver looks beautiful
Simply breathtaking, and crystal clear quality. Thanks!
5:42 - 6:10 that flying shadow ... My favorite of the entire clip !
Yes, and you could see the long vapor trail behind it. It's kind of interesting how the aircrafts don't start making those trails until going over about 400 mph and are at least 20,000 ft high. You don't see planes taking off and landing making those trails, since only going about 200 mph then.

The Rocky Mountains are awesome and Canada one of my favourite countries! Btw, pilots are so talented and skilful! Kudos to them!✈👍💖from Spain
Clearly one of the best videos I've ever seen and I've seen some good ones. Such good quality! Stunningly beautiful! Wow! Such a smooth landing too! Thank you!
I've been on several 747s and never noticed the slats retract when the thrust reverse is active. Guess I learned something today.
I saw that too. And then after engine braking, the slats were extended again. Anyone can explain?
Protecting the slats from damage due to thrust reverse ;)
+Late60sFan they retract to prevent damage from debris being thrown by the reverse thrust
Nice landing. Vancouver,... One of the worlds great cities (as is Frankfurt).

The 747 is a beautiful metal bird. :)
+Mostafa Mansoori thanks a lot for the comment and watching my videos

I want to visit Vancouver. So beautiful and clean.
Great video nut nothing EXTREME about this approach. I'd wanna clearly see tree top for an EXTREME
Superb quality! Superb landscape and excelent filming!! It almost feels as if oneself's on that plane.
Completely misleading title.
Pretty normal approach into Vancouver and over Pitt lake. Would have been busted by transport Canada other wise
thanks Lufthansa for your very professional flight and you are really star airlines and thanks for this video maker with a great job .
