Nicely done. I've done Quito many times myself in the DC8 then later on in B757. Much nicer with the glass in the 757. I'm retired now so I will watch you kids have fun.
They're good but im better
@@justusoconnor3243 ego may be humor, I fly Microsoft Airways better!
@@justusoconnor3243 Without any proof that's a ridiculous statement
@@KarlGeorges what do u want me to do ? Want me post a video here? U can say is ridiculous but that won't magically transform what i said in a lie.
interesting to hear your perspective. I've often wondered how veteran pilots felt when glass cockpits became commonplace, particularly after hearing what John Hutchinson (Concorde Pilot) had to say about glass cockpits, something like "none of that poncy glass cockpit rubbish".
The look on captain's face when he landed.. He knew he made a bumper 😉😁... But kudos to the captain and his co pilot for the level of professionalism they exhibited
whats a bumper ?
@@pliskinn0089 Hard landing.
That was most probably intentional to kill some of the aircraft's KE
He didn't. He was unsatisfied with his speed.
No bumper but moved quickly full on brakes. At that altitude the air is thin and the air brakes have reduced effect.
I am not a pilot but I recognize professionalism, teamwork and skill when I see it. Well done indeed.
Sunday 10/212023-I was a little down due to the state of our world today, so I revisited my two old friends here enroute to Quito. Hello old friends if you happen to see this. Although you didn't know it, I enjoyed travelling along with you on the breathtaking flight several times. It, and your subsequent departure are two of my favorite virtual adventures. Thank you again and of course many thanks to the content poster! I hope all is well with y'all!🙂
As I had said on one of the other Lufthansa videos, these Germans are sooo Professional. Fly with this airline anytime!
my whole family loves Lufthansa
Swiss and Lufthansa are the proffesionalst airlines on the world
As I commented, so professionals!
accept the German wing fo who killed every one !
As long as the pilot does not decide to land it into a mountain side..idiot
Pilots have alot going on while flying these big machines. I have much respect for their work.
*YOU TWO PILOTS ARE BIG TIME PROFESSIONALS...AND WE APPRECIATE THE FLY ALONG, A GREAT LANDING TO BE SURE!!*
I am a female aviation fan, and this video really encourages me! Thank you!
Excellent production. Superb aerial and cockpit shots!
One of the best I've seen.
I really appreciate how controlled and calm pilots are in the face of very stressful situations. My hat is off to all of you.
Fantastic video. Post production is great and being able to have a behind the scenes look and understanding into what goes into flying a plane commercially is eye opening. Thank you!
Seems extremely well-organised & highly professional. Enjoyable learning about the procedures & seeing the cockpit view (so much better than passenger view) that we never get to see any more (I remember years ago being allowed in the cockpit for the landing at NCL). This is a very well-put together video with a really interesting location.
Nice video! Superbly executed and narrated with great CRM by this crew. I used to fly into the old Quito airport a lot and I would agree with this captain, it takes your full attention. We almost always did it at night. Right before they closed the old airport they actually got an RNAV RNP that "curved" you in an "S" shape while you descended towards the south on glideslope towards the south. Never got to do the new approach other than the sim, and when the sim guy took the weather away it was shocking to see how close to those mountains we were as we snaked through them, and then landed south. The new airport is very nice in every respect, and fantastically smooth runway surface, but the new airport sits in an area that is prone to fog.
Thanks again for a great video!
The female co-pilot has a wonderful voice. Very fluent, clear, and pleasant sounding.
But that accent tho
What's wrong with her accent?
tree tree tree ;>
it´s more avoiding the "th" than an accent...
And that's not all, Lex! Fabulous woman. Beautiful, smart and flies giant aircraft. Mama Mia!
THIS VIDEO MAKES ME CRY WITH ADMIRATION!
Huh?
Thanks for bringing me home once again, if only virtually. Exceptional professionalism and nerves of steel. I was on pins and needles, remembering how as a teenager I was terrified and thinking - how in the world are we going to land in such a heavily populated crazy valley. I am from Guayaquil, Ecuador but remember traveling with my father to Quito and Cuenca by commercial flight. I took my wife to Ecuador for the first time in 2013 and she was in awe of the airports in the Highlands there. It takes nerves of steel just to be a passenger... I hope someone has video of landing at San. Cristobal, Galapagos - another harrowing experience.
That was the most fascinating pilot's eye video yet!
This is the best approach video I've seen in a long time, congrats! All Hail the MD11!
Quito is a beautiful city... Great views!
Holy cow. I flown in to Quito as a passenger, but this makes me appreciate so much more the complexity. Thanks!
Damn... This has got to be the BEST aviation video I've EVER seen...
What production values...!!!
Jaa naturlich .. you could)
These Lufthansa pilots make it look so easy. I love how they transition seamlessly between German and very competent English. This is quite different from the Korean, Chinese and Russian crews who struggle with minimal English competency at JFK
Language is difficult if not everyday used...That they do if they are pilots or some other traffic is their allday lang.
Those pilots don't have that kind of difficulties in other parts of the world, or even other parts of the US. Perhaps the problem also has something to do with JFK's smug controllers and their failure to adopt standard phraseology.
Competent English? They speak english absolutely perfect albeit with a German accent. A person from Newcastle speaks English with a Newcastle accent etc. To do this job you have to bilingual at least and preferably equally fluent in two languages. English, German and Spanish are a must for a long haul pilot. At least for one of the pilots.
Sadly my flying instructor was killed back in the 80s by a misunderstanding at a French airport where the tower was speaking a mixture of French and English. I think that and other accidents back then made the international law change so all exterior traffic language for flight was kept to English.
Germans and Scandanavians have been learning & using English since the end of ww2. You can barely even detect an accent with a lot of Dutch and Danes.
always so great to see professionals making a complex job look so routine! well done.
what a landing, just imagine being in the captain's seat for that one, lovely external shots too. fabulous
I love to hear her saying Lufthansa Cargo 8260. It's so pleasant sounding.
Visited Quito a couple of years ago, absolutely a spectacular place--what a treat to ride along in the cockpit and watch this truly top-flight crew show us what it looks like from up front, and how it's done by those on top of their game. Und sogar eine Walküre als F/O!
Beautiful. I love the professionalism. What a job to have!
Especially when you consider these two are married.
all pilots are professional there job demands it they have to be ?
Not to each other
yeah job to have with excessive amount of flight hours and rather low pay if you're new pilot.. and what a responsibility if you carry passengers
Perfectly done folks, nice to see this gorgeous MD-11 once more
Amazing, so nice to see such nice crew!
Wow, Quito is crazy phenomenal. With countless apartment towers everywhere, yet strangely beautiful nestled in that valley and up the hillsides. Love the pilots and you can not only hear the captain tell us that he enjoys the fly in but you can see he's getting a kick out of it, though he pulled a bit of a face because the landing was, how shall I say - robust? Good stuff.
I guess im randomly asking but does anyone know of a way to log back into an Instagram account?
I somehow forgot my login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me.
@Harold Daxton instablaster :)
@Walter Salvatore thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out atm.
I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Walter Salvatore it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thank you so much you saved my account !
@Harold Daxton You are welcome xD
Beautiful video, thanks guys for taking the time and film my beautiful country. My respect to the pilots.
Great, thanks for these special insights, one feels the passion, experience, and routine of the pilots.
What a great landing. I would have every confidence in flying with that crew.
Explains how difficult it is to land at this airport, lands like a boss... I love these guys
I’ve watched this video I don’t know how many times, I love this arrival. Absolutely spectacular
So Have I.
I cannot like this enough, you guys have come a long way. TY
VERY GOOD JOB , CONGRATULATIONS PILOTS!!
One of the best videos I've seen. Great job. I will have to watch it again! Yes, She is very pretty and highly professional!
Incredible video. I love the video of the cockpit. And that scenery is just stunning.
Thank you so much for posting it.
Really enjoyed this video. Yes, the highlands of Peru/Ecuador are pretty unique, surely an interesting place to fly.
Truly fantastic. Pilots are my true heros. They are courageous and calm.
This was beautiful, perfect even. Loved the combo
Excellent documentary! Everyone operating at maximum efficiency. I was particularly impressed by the dedication and professionalism of Tanya, the the P2 cabin attendant. Ausgezeichnet!
Wow! What a beautiful and well produced video! Thanks very much for posting it! I enjoyed it from beginning to end. Well done.
fascinating video!
I like the dialog streams between the pilots on the one hand, in German, and the airport approach and landing folks, where the exchanges are in English. The smoothness of the transition demonstrates to me a couple of accomplished young professionals, and reflects strongly on the Lufthansa brand.
I too found it interesting that they used English for flying-related banter.
JohnnyWishbone85 well... back about 12 years ago or so, the Aviation industry suggested the Pilots and ATC should know some basic English and also take any english proficiency text as well considering majority of the Air Industry began here In the U.S. to begin with.
Clear communication between pilots and air traffic controllers is absolutely necessary for safety. What happens when a flight crew flies to a country that speaks a different language? Just imagine: an Air China flight crew that speaks Mandarin arrives in Paris and must converse with French controllers. In order to communicate effectively, flight crews and controllers must share a common language.
Then about 10 years ICAO decided that all pilots and ATC SHOULD BE ABLE TO NOT ONLY SPEAK ENGLISH... BUT WRITE IT AND UNDERSTAND IT TOO. Sometime you'll hear over the Frequencies ATC & PILOTS speaking in a different language however, that's only because they flight crew indicated that upon first check in.
Example would be "Good Morning...Hello...Good evening, Newark Center this is Catus 2347 Heavy on 121 (decimal) 22 we're now making our initial decent, leaving flight level 2-2 (TOO-TOO thousand) down to FL 2-0 (Too ZE-ROW thousand) (maintaining head 2-7-0 degrees weather (c) Charlie, awaiting vectors for an ILS Approach." Basically their telling the tower they speak English and transmitting in frequency 121.22 and leaving their previous flight level of 22,000 feet and their current heading and their latest weather info was C they're waiting for their next set of instructions... Be it a heading change, altitude, speed, nearby traffic ECT. When ATC hears this, especially the weather report, if the weather has changed since their focus is landing, ATC will provide them with new weather and runaway closure, traffic, vectors (This is just an example. I can go on forever. Lol.)
But take any Spanish speaking country. Similar scenario as above. But it's Mexico/Spain/Puerto Rico/Dominican Republic ECT and this flight crew may call in like this.... (Buenos Dias, Tardes, Noche....), ATC now knows that they prefer Spanish. Not because they don't know English but more they're more comfortable.
I can well imagine the professionalism of Lufthansa's pilots in space in the alternate world of 2001 A Space Odyssey. The Lufthansa space shuttle and Lunar Ship arriving and departing Space Station 5 with Teutonic throughness and professionalism.
You're preaching to the choir. What I found interesting was that the pilots used English for flight-related banter with *each other.*
JohnnyWishbone85 ahhh... I see. I didn't understand that's what you were communicating. Apologies. But yes... certainly... it is interesting. Indeed
Beautiful approach what a view, very well done
Never tire of watching this segment. Well-done! Thanks!
What a wonderfully calm pair of greatly gifted pilots; whewwww was a good day to drop by and visit!! WELL DONE!!
These two pilots make a great team. Fantastic video. I also like the background music - nice touch. Show more flights with these two excellent pilots!
Beautiful Approach! Well executed CRM!
I'm glad to revisit this most excellent flight after 4 years. Seems like yesterday. I wonder where these excellent pilots are today, and what they are doing. Thanks again for a pleasant journey. Now I'll watch the presentation of the lovely flowers to a beautiful and capable woman on the return flight!
Don’t know what she is doing, but he (the captain) is the CEO of Lufthansa subsidiary „Eurowings Discover“ today.
Love to watch the professionals work!
Lufthansa so PROFESSIONAL!! Thanks, great video!!!
This is such a FUCKING AMAZING VIDEO!!!! Enjoyed every second! Heart beating! THANK YOU
schöner Anflug, perfecter touch down - nice video thanks for sharing
... great video, I enjoyed it from the beginning to the end! Relaxed and professional atmosphere in the cockpit!
I've never flown Lufthansa, but after watching this, I think I will. Very professional!
Quito is a classic destination for Lufthansa . They used to land there with a B 707 in the 70s on their way to Santiago de Chile on regular passenger service - Happy days.
Thank you for one of the best videos of this type on the net!
Exciting approach...looks like the crew enjoyed it. Thanks for a great video.
Be interesting to see these two pilots landing at the (now) newer Quito airport and their comments how it is compared to the old one-or at least how they are doing, five years after this video was posted.
Talking about being calm, that's got to be a real sphincter tester on the landing approach...I must have smoked 2 cigarettes just watching.
Amazing skillful pilots....
It fascinates me, a person who's uncomfortable flying, see these pilots look at the challenging approach with excitement. These people have steel in their bones.
LOVE the MD11 and these Pilots are so GOOD!
14:15 that captain's response to the autopilot's voice :D
It's really standard. When the plane hits minimums and you don't have the runway is sight you're going to have to abort the landing. So you usually say Continue or Landing
haha, i think he means the captain's tone, like singing
I laughed....continuuuuuuuuuuueeeeeeee
The autopilot and other warnings is known as "Bitching Betty"! :)
Een mooie film, dank aan de bemanning voor de blik op hun werkplek en dank aan de maker van de film voor de de volledigheid van de beelden.Zondermeer een aanrader
Thanks for the flight .Enjoyed every moment. True professionals.
I thoroughly enjoyed the comperaderie betwixt the crew. They undoubtedly work well together.
The views are extraordinarily beautiful. It must be a joy to fly in their, despite the extra attention and such related to high altitude landings and extreme terrain.
Thank you
Great experience from this challenging approach and landing !!!
I lived in Quito almost tree years ! A wonderful time!
Sure brings back a lot of memories! Thanks!
Awesome coverage! Thanks for sharing!👍🏻
absolutely great. I love this aircraft.
Landed in Quito twice with an erupting volcano nearby 10 years ago, I am just realising what an amazing job the KLM and Ecuadorian airline pilots did. Stunning views on the way in and when I got off the plane I felt as if I was high due to altitude(no pun intended). Would love to go back to Galapagos.
Peter Nom.
What does Galapagos have to do with this, is that where You flew in from ??
Excellent landing!!! Compliments to the pilots. I’m watching this and not even in the plane and I’m already feeling a rush. Good job!!!
nice one, a really tough approach up in the clouds and thermics of ECUADOR
I can watching this every week :P
Really wonderful. Thanks for sharing 👍👍👍
Great video, enjoyed very much watching the mechanics of that difficult landing.
I am a bit of a nervous flyer, but seeing how professional and skilled the pilots are makes me feel better
I put LH and KLM videos at the top, great information from the flight crews and top notch productions. I'm surprised there isn't a backup crew, obviously they aren't flying from Frankfort. I admire pilots that can deal with high altitude airports and clouds that contain big rocks.Damn that final darkish mountain had me sweating bullets.
Fantastic video! Thank you!
The view was nothing short of absolutely beautiful
Impressive, I have never seen this video, and now I realize the complexity of the landing at the old Quito airport
Great explanations and landing, Thanks
Wow, what an amazing approach! I think the pilots have some chemistry going on, they seemed to get along incredibly well, she was affectionately touched after the "rose" remark. I loved the pilots expression during touchdown (15:07).
Yep. They had a touching 69er back at the crew hotel.
Such an enjoyable flight and 2 very professional pilots. Cheers!
I love how he has overhead. shots of the approach area and the precision... impressive
16:26 OMG what a beauty!!!
thermals always fun-- especially in a md 11--- not a very forgiving craft
totally true
such a perfect frame.. i started to like this plane after watching that moment
Really good
At first, I thought this was going to be yet another stupid and pedestrian comment about the female co-pilot, but it wasn't, so thanks. So many idiot perverts in the comments.
But I agree - that plane is a beauty! Very sleek.
I enjoyed the synergy between the two professional aviators BUT her husband must keep a watchful eye. The Captain is smooth.
yes, those flowers !
yes, 8:53 confirms it-- she's committed.
Are they married? Where does it say
LOL :-D
May be, but not to each other.
Brings back fond memories of many approaches into Quito....always a challenge. Back with Air Madrid A 330.
Fascinating video, I didn't know that Quito was so high and surrounded by mountains/volcanos.
Well those engines DO sound good even shutting down !!!!😊😍
Wow. For whatever reasons, this video was really exceptional! Clean, precise and what have you, and just enjoyable.
I real late get enough of this series with such an amazing and professional crew of Lufthansa…. time after time I come back and rewatch it, as they really made their journey ours and topped it with Quito exotica! Auf vielen danke meine heren und damen!
( I hope I spelled it right and with the right context)!
That is spectacular!
I would be lifting up my feet every time we got close to the top of the buildings.
Superb. Really enjoyed that. Thank you for the detailed approach plan as well as explanations by the Captain re the effect on aerodynamics for landing at a field at 9,000" elevation. For those interested, look for video clips of the Indian Air Force landing AN32 and C-130s at Daulat Baig Oldie at 16,600" the highest airfield in the world. Great video. Many Thanks!!
Interesting arrival at the Cargo Bay. Normally flight videos show passenger terminals. The pilot explains that the crew had to undergo a 8 hour training on a simulator before "released" on Quito Airport. He says it's Lufthansa's most challenging airport worldwide. Carrying flowers to Germany.
Interessante Ankunft in Quito.
Flown into Quito many times as my daughter is posted at the embassy there. Always an adventure flying in.
