I’ve always loved airplanes. I can’t remember a time that I didn’t. When I was 3 we were on a night flight from Caracas to Miami on a PanAm 707. Somehow my dad knew the Captain and had told him about my love for planes. Maybe an hour or so after takeoff a stewardess came and took me to the cockpit. The Captain asked me, “do you want to fly the plane?” He then proceeded to set me on his lap. And as I sat there holding on the control yoke, looking at all the lit instruments in the otherwise darkened cockpit I knew right there and then...”This is what I want to do”. I remember all that like it was yesterday. Today I’m a Captain with United Airlines flying the 777. And Coincidentally my favorite time to fly is at night. I just wish I could bring every little boy and girl that shows an interest up front and allow them the same experience. For little did that Captain know, he set on the course for the rest of my life.
I always fly united maybe one day you might be my captain👍
When I was a little boy we lived in the Panama Canal Zone. My earliest memory of flying was maybe age 3-4 or 5 flying to STL with my parents to visit my family on leave. My strongest memories are of being so excited that I ran up the wrong tailcone stairs of planes lined up to take on passengers. Of looking out the window at the field of blue taxiway lights -a sea of blue as far as the eye could see. (To this day I must have a window seat) Of walking on the tarmac under the wing of the biggest fastest loudest thing I’d ever seen. Of asking my mom over and over “are we ‘up’ yet?” (Cruising altitude). Of the stewardess inadvertently waking up my mom coming thru the cabin with her cart. Of stopping in Florida on the way. Of landing in STL greeted by grandpa wearing his best suit and hat who kneeled down and asked me if I knew who he was. I did. I thought it seemed a silly question haha. To this day in spite of all the drudgery of flying I try to keep that same child like excitement of actual flight itself even these 50 years later.
bravo man...the power of influence
How much to train as a pilot though, you need to be LOADED
You can tell the guy shooting the video is a true aviation fan: who else could spend over 6.5mn focusing exclusively on a close-up shot of the engines at take-off, not once filming anything else (landscape, the sky, buildings... you name it?)... Only true aviation fans can understand each other. Thanks for posting. :-)
Many times during the taxiing I thought he was applying take-off trust!
Man I love that buzz it makes. Am I crazy? Take off is the best part of flight
But it's also the most dangerous
My first time flying in a 707 was in 1964 and I remember reading on the flight safety card a description of what sounds to expect hearing from various systems like the hydraulics and landing gear. The 707 was a reliable plane back in the day when you dressed in suits to travel long before the cattle call flights of today.
I flew this a/c for around 14 years.!!!!
The sturdiest, more robust and trouble free plane I ever flown.!!!
Miss it a lot.!!!
Good old times.!!!
We loved it.!!!
A.Rodrigues.
The 707 needed nearly 50% thrust to get moving when fully loaded but after the initial break away the thrust was reduced. This video takes me back to great times in airline flying.
Human mind is brilliant.
👹
Jet engines from the past around the 60s and early 70s. They are thinner, longer, and screaming with power down the runways taking to the skies. Classic! 😊👍❤️
Very cool! I love them!
thanks for watching greetings Patrick
@@melonbobful LMAO! 🤣
Also more heavy on fuel
I can smell the kerosene from here.
I wish airlines had the resources to offer legacy flights.
A chance to ride in the airlines of the past.
B707, convair 880/990, b727, L1011 etc.

I remember flying on 707s as kid in the late 60s and early 70s. The plane wold taxi to the end of the runway. With the brakes locked, the pilot would rev the engines up. The whole plane would be shaking. Then they would release the brakes and the plane shot forward, then down the runway and into the sky. It was GREAT fun.
707: we pay for the whole runway ,we use the whole runway.
Yet so many pilots accept intersection takeoffs.
Negative tower, full length needed.
That's the way it used to be.
Hey, they aren’t Aerosucre!
😊
Sometime about 1977 or 1978, Jimmy Carter arrived in Providence on one of the original 707 AF-1 aircraft. I think the longest runway was a little short of 7000' back then. Of course, on departure, it wasn't going to take off with a full passenger and fuel load.
There is nothing like the sound of those four Pratt turbojets spooling up to that in-cabin whine that reverberates throughout the plane. Thanks for posting this wonderful piece of nostalgia.
There is nothing like the classic, powerful, noisy, smoky 707 on takeoff. That was a real treat to see that on film.
I am lucky enough to have flown internationally on the 707 in 1970. A good solid feeling plane that gave confidence over the deep ocean, yet small enough and sufficiently exposed to the sound of those jet engines to give a wonderful sense of flight. Modern airliners might be relatively quiet and stable but they insulate you from the feeling of being on a wing and a prayer. They are like overgrown buses whereas the 707 was an aircraft that inspired the imagination. Love those engines.
Every time it roars "Is it gonna take off now?"
Now imagine 8 of these instead of 4. Here comes the mighty B 52🛫
Is it really 8 of these engines ?
@@lonemaus562yup!
Four pods with dual engines
Imagine that fuel burn!
How much runway do you need?
707: Yes
Yes
hahahahahahahahaha!🤣🤣🤣
saw this on a tiktok slideshow
All of it 😂
Man nothing sounds better then a 777
“707 hold my beer “
Now that's what a Boeing 707 should sound like. Love the buzz of that fan.
I’ve watched this video over 15 times and I still get goosebumps from the sound of those engines.
I love the way those engines sound! The buzzing noise is so cool.
Boeing 707 the most magnificent airplane ever built .With four engines spread out the sensation during takeoff couldn’t be matched in other planes. My first 707 ride in 1975 Kansas City to Boston TWA.Quite a thrill.
Look at the wing flex and how the engines bounce around.
I love the sound of the engines roaring when I'm in a plane I always sit by the wing side.
DC-8s, 707s, and 880s; my favorite airliners. The look and the sound!
I'm crying, it's so beautiful
Decades into the age of flight, I’m still in awe of it all. The human curiosity and wonder as to how such a large metal bird rockets into the sky is simply marvellous. What an incredible species we are
I remember when I was a 7-year old flying from New Orleans to Baltimore on a 707 to visit my aunt for the summer of 1974. I was a smart kid who knew all airplane types. I remember my view of the wing and engines was exactly like seen here in this video. Brings back incredible memories.
The engine sound is amazing! Even while taxiing
I recall those as a child and remember going right to sleep once we were in the air, they placed me in a trance, I loved that sound..
IMHO, the Boeing 707 is the most beautiful airplane ever built. The 4 JT3Ds at idle created such a sweet sound! When I was an air traffic controller decades ago, I had the pleasure to both fly in cockpit, and work with these fine aircraft. If I close my eyes and concentrate, I can still hear those TWA 707s on the tarmac....
God, i swear the best planes ever. The 707 and 747.
It sounds like my hairdryer at full thrust 😁😁
Those engines are awesome.
Here that ROAR!!!! MIssed the sound of a Noisey yet satisfying sound of these engines spooling up at full power!!!!
Couldn't agree more! Love this sound and I can´t get enough of it!
Early 707, DC 8s and C 5s sounded AWESOME
1100 dislikes? Those engines sounded great.
Fantastic sounds which bring back great memories. I had my first flight in a 707 in August 1964 at the age of nine. I have never forgotten the roar of those engines. Love it
Man, I love that humming buzz sound!!!!
747 is my favorite jet but I tell you the 707 is a very close second. Flew it transatlantic in the 70’s and just fell 8n love with it. Sleek looks, too.
This sounds so
Amazing, when the engines getting full power
Guaranteed to pass the California emissions test
If someone would ask me "whats the best sound you've ever heard" I would show them this. These engines have the most Satisfying sound I've ever heard!
When jets sounded like jets!
There is nothing that sounds more beautiful than four powerful jet engines on take off thrust :)...Best part of the flight for me
Great!!! 707 and DC-8 have the best and loud engine shout!
To hear all that raw power from those engines.
Music to my ears.

It's "KOJAK", you dumbfuck.
RL R, you'd obviously make a great teacher.
That sound takes me back to when I was a child ,love it !
Man, those JT's are singing a song!
Sounds like 4 bagpipes playing an extended note in sync.
I remember traveling in the 707's out of Dallas in 1963 when I was 23. I remember one time we had a tail wind and flying west we arrived "before we took off" because of the time zone difference. I took my first flight in 1947 in a Piper. I still get emotional with every lift off. I am taking my grand daughter to Europe on a 747 for Christmas before they disappear from the skies. This will be my 51st Atlantic crossing and it still gives me a thrill .
Is sad when the beautiful sounds become a thing from the past.
Airplanes engines dont sound the same...
F1 engines dont sound the same...
And we have all of this for granted :(
I can go to sleep with this "noise", I can wake up to this "noise"! to an aviation nuts' ears, like me, this noise is orgasmic!
The brave 707.
This was Brazil's presidential plane for decades, retired in 2013. It was purchased by the Brazilian Air Force in 1987 from a local airline, which originally acquired it, brand new, in 1968. It justly received the nickname "Sucatão" from the population, something that translates as a huge piece of scrap metal or junk, due to the decades of service and various mechanical problems.
The "Junk" FAB 2401 was dismantled in 2014.
WOW, great Information, it was fun reading your comment and I also didn´t knew about the Sucatão
greetings Patrick
Sad. A giant in the legacy of human achievement. Burn the Mona Lisa. Demolish the Pantheon. Delete the Iliad. Deprive the human race of its legacy of flight . A magnificent machine
My most favorite commercial aircraft. Carried me safely to many far away places safely and back...in times of peace and war. God bless those who " keep'em flying"
I know newer engines are quieter, more powerful, and more efficient, but I've always liked the look of the older turbofans a lot more. These just look so much more like what I think of when I hear "jet engine."
“Hear the mighty engines roar... see the silver wing on high. She’s away and westward bound, far above the clouds she’ll fly...”
- Gordon Lightfoot, *Early Mornin’ Rain*
Engineers, for some reason, will never have the fame and glory of a rock singer, although their creations are not only right, they're beautiful, as well.
Thats true their work is amazing and only because of them the aviation business is that much exciting and diverse.
Yes, it takes how many people and money to create an aircraft.
What is funny, if not amazing, travelers don't realize or care, that flying, is in itself something miraculous.
The miracle of flying, is that many things must work together like a symphony, there is no maybe
Wow! Today is more beautiful when you have appreciation for history. Now I get to work on the development of the New Geared Turbofan Family PW1000G. Amazing!!!
That is a beautiful older bird, with engines that just sound beautiful. Thanks for this.
The Best part of being an aircraft mechanic is listening to this classic symphony....
The sound of my childhood (I lived under the approach pattern for Dulles Airport).
damn those leading edge slats are huge
Krueger flaps, not slats.
I really like the buzzing sound.
Idk why i just love them.
In the 80's, flying TWA, sometimes I'd be on 707's (mid 80's). TWA's had French/English language printed on things. I loved the spacious feel when i got up to move around and the engine sounds. I could see and feel why the Boeing 707 had become THE most popular long distance airliner of the '60's and '70's. For '80's jets, the L1011 was mine and many people's favorite.
That sounds like my pc fan
a pure, magical symphony.
Memories, memories of a bygone era! Love those intake vanes on the engine cowlings.
Great clip - 707s were awesome. Noisy, but awesome.
same with the EMB-120
In other obvious news. Grass is green.
implying that the noise is a bad thing
Still are! Look at the USAF's E-8C.
Nonstop Paris to Kansas City aboard an all coach configured Pan Am 707 charter in the early 1970s. Longest day of my life. Loved every minute of it.
Honestly The Best Boeing 707 Video On RUclips!
At full thrust I can almost hear Steve Miller Band's "Jet Airliner " song!
Beautiful!!!! A sound from the past. Sweet and loud music to the ears. :-)
4:04 Should a guy be standing so close to a 707 that's about to take off?
Could listen to this all night
That wing profile looks as aerodynamic as a 1950s double decker bus!
Classic vintage of Boeing 707 and her original Pratt & Whitney JT3D
best source of black smoke and noise ever invented
Back in the Sixties and Seventies I flew on 707s more times than I can count and I always liked that plane a lot. They were the workhorse of the airline industry for many years.
I saw in a video a year ago, they still use these engines for commercial flight in Iran. Pretty awesome sound
Simply music to my ears! Spent the last four years of my USAF career in the 965th AWACS. I love the rolling takeoff here. This crew is not messing around, they shoved the throttles forward and that heavy old bird is "gittin it on!'
Brings back so many memories when I was 9 yrs old, we would do the New-york Dakar route where my father was stationed as a diplomat for Canada, The Pan-Am 707 was majestic, I clearly remember the sounds, great memories tx
How can that not give you chills?!
She sounds SO good!
Is Boeing a she? 747's name is Queen of the Sky
The sweetest sound known to man.
I flew on one 707 in the Canadian Air Force, Such a privilege. Thank you for posting this beautiful video. I don't know about anybody else, but those engines just say safety. The raw power of each one of those engines times 4 you would feel like you would never have an issue.
yeah I love the powerful sound of the engines it just showes how much weight they cn get up in the air its unbelivable. Thanks for watching Kevin
I used to LOVE the 707. It was my favorite plane of those times, by farr. It was soo much fun watching people scared to fly when they were on 707s. You see that type of aircraft had a wing design that allowed it to flap, sway, and flex quite a bit, feet going up and down but I forget the exact specs
The engine mounts too would allow for a ton of movement as well. This was so disliked by passengers that this was the last airliner with a wing designed like that although it was actually MUCH stronger than the wings that are more rigid like is common today.
It would make for really fun flights especially flying through rough turbulence and or storms--yes they used to fly right through storms but don't today either. The wings would be flapping like some huge bird with the engines moving from side to side up and down, many times in differentt directions than each other, it was GREAT!!! But oh my the white knucklers would freak!
Just loved the old 707!! Wish it was still in service today, i would fly it in a second if given a choice.
Man I love the sound of them engines
What a huge airport! Especially the tower at 3:26
Music to my ears. Absolutely beautiful. A classic, beautiful piece of machinery!
Beautiful sound. Great memories. 707 Pan Am, Eastern Airlines. To Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 Amen 🙏🏻.🇵🇷🇺🇸🙏🏻.
Those engines are the balls of the airplane
Old Engines = sounds like a beast roars
New Engines = sounds like an old woman moaning
Back in '68 one Sunday morning, my Dad was helping me with paper route and just after filling the trunk at the paper shack, we turned to a westward heading and in the sky was a 707 or DC-8 one thousand feet high, pitched about 45 degrees with 4 streams of black coal pouring from the engines 2 miles in front of us. I know both of our mouths dropped because it was leaving a small regional airport.
The pilot landed there by mistake the night before. They off-loaded the people and stripped the seats installed two pilots and we saw them ...'hunt for heaven'. Never forget it.
Dublin Boy
At what point did u2mister1 say they were 40 years old in ‘68?
So ummmm .. Dublin Boy there.. where in the comments from u2mister1 did he or she say ANYTHING about being "40"????
Hi u2mister1... that wasn't by ANY chance Columbus Ohio was it? Because when I was kid, the exact same thing happened here in Columbus! Some numbskull pilot landed at Don Scott OSU airport in a jet plane, instead of Port Columbus.. caused a huge raucous at the time and we watched it from our backyard, that's how close we lived to Don Scott at the time!
Hank Austin- YES SIR IT WAS- That was '67 or '68 right?
First flight ever was in a 707 JFK-SNN in a nor'easter. Incredible high pitch spool up full thrust takeoff with loud sync engine vibe.Updrafts and downdrafts like a roller coaster. The wing flex was incredible. I was looking for the exit...nothing like a first terror flight! Once above storm the 707 cruised like a dream...I was hooked!
I was a flight attendant on the 707's in the late 80's. Great aircraft .
That. Was. Amazing **Off to smoke a cigarette now**
