- THE #MERCEDESMAYBACH SUV!! The first series Production Maybach, not from S Class, to join the Maybach Family: this is the 2020 Mercedes #Maybach GLS 600!!
Maybach as a brand has evolved over the years, and this new GLS Maybach is perhaps the first clear indication of the change for the brand. Originally a separate luxury unit for Mercedes Benz, creating cars like the Maybach 57 and 62: during the brand reshuffling in 2013 it was renamed as “Mercedes Maybach”, much like the renaming of AMG to Mercedes AMG.
This seemed to me a smart move, AMG is well understood by customers to be a performance company which has its own design language, technical developments and customer expectations, based on Mercedes cars. Maybach too needed to sit as a trim level but in its own right: a Mercedes, but with a much higher focus on Ultimate Luxury, comfort technologies and the customer expectations that follow!
So let’s go from the S560 Maybach, Maybach G 650 Landaulet, Vision 6 and Ultimate Luxury Concept all the way to the new GLS 600!
This GLS makes the future of Maybach clear: we have taken a Mercedes GLS base car and applied Maybach DNA to it, to create a car that is familiar but clearly with a luxury focus. The GLS 600 Engine is AMG sourced, the 4.0 V8 but with a unique output for the GLS 600 of 550 BHP, 730nm and a further electric EQ boost of 21BHP!
The car has a completely bespoke interior trim level, with everything covered in high quality nappa leather and numerous wood finishes; there’s even a unique Maybach digital driver zone! The car comes standard with E Active Suspension, PAF comfort package and acoustic comfort package.
But the real story is in the rear, with the S Class Pullman level second row with HUGE space in the rear. You’ll see the seats, which are like cocoons in this 4 seat version (5 seat also available) as well as MBUX in the rear with a touch screen tablet and the new large rear entertainment screens.

Raz, do you know if there's any substance in the rumours about AMG'S V8 engines? I read something that said AMG was trialling a new 4.0 unit based on the M139?
@D B The body style alone on the Maybach in my humble opinion looks far superior. Rolls, always so square, once a term given to a person who wasn't up with the times, and in the case of the Rolls, would seem most appropriate. But, that said, that only pertains to it's particular body style, not the interior. Perhaps it's because of it's signature grille, that even with it's latest model, the grille still retains that "squared off" look, that then has to have the bodywork blend with it, which as we know, has been the case with each successive model down through the years...
The Maybach, which like most all larger SUVs, does have a "boxy" appearance too, but at least the contours are rounded off, which in my opinion is more pleasing to the eye. But whatever one's choice for these larger SUVs, I do respect and acknowledge that other folks will have a different opinion to my own. Happy and safe motoring to all...
@D B Well, as I said, I was only stating an opinion. Body style equate to prestige?. Hmm, forgive me, but I would think that when a person sees a Rolls, they immediately think prestige, but I know where you're coming from in regard to superior league, successful and discerning, but, one does not have to be successful to own and drive a Rolls, because if you have the money, they'll sell you one. But then as they say, you don't drive a Rolls, but are driven in one. I may well be a successful person, but I'm not one to be fussed over and chauffeured everywhere. Quite frankly, if hypothetically I was given the latest model Rolls, I'd immediately swap it for the Bentley Mulsanne, or Flying Spur, as I consider those two look so much better, and interior appointments are well up there in the super luxury stakes. Again in my opinion, park them both beside each other and the Bentley wins hands down over the Rolls in looks and body style. Anyhow D B, I thank you for your feed back, it's much appreciated. Revenge? As hideous as the Cullinan is, at least it's not just a cynical marketing strategy. This "Maybach" has no substance at all. But Americans will love it - it looks like an American SUV.

@GIDEON GICH thanks captain obvious I know why he said that. Mercedes Tri Star carries more prestige than Maybach. Maybach was a German design team who made the engines for the tiger tanks for Nazi Germany. That's probably why they want to get away from the maybach logo. Fun fact: Karl Benz had the idea and design for the first internal combustion engine in modern history.
You can have it swapped, I’ve seen the S600 models with Maybach hood ornaments... I agree though, if you’re paying that much for a prestigious luxury car you don’t want to see the same exact ornament you’d find on a C-Class.

What do you mean with “remove” before race?
In 2015 when Mercedes announced the s650 maybach, someone interviewed the sales manager of Rolls Royce, asking him what he thought about the new competition. He answered that the new s-class could only rival the RR's second hand market for their smaller models.
And it's logical. One small Rolls costs as much as 2 or 3 big Benzes. One is what the CEO drives and the other is what the owner does.
Take note that RR is owned by BMW so is bentley. The RR phantom, wraith are not competitors of the S class at all. S class has been luxury car of the year for maybe 13 years now. I followed the review of one American billionaire in texas this year. He just bought a maybach S 650.he also has a cullinan en phantom. Interesting enough: he said none of his British cars can come to the connection that he experience on the Maybach. It simply beats them in all departments. Take note that mercedes cars when they started were ultra luxury cars in the 50,s en 60,s.they were for rich people. Right now mercedes decided to go back to their roots. The S650 maybach limousine is now at no.1 as the world, s most luxurious sedan for 2020.it even beat the rolls royce phantom. Google, top 10 ultra luxurious sedans 2020. Rolls royce lost that position to the S class already early this year.

Thank you very much for another awesome video, we appreciate it and keep supporting you. Now, all you said about it is true, reasonable and correct. I however would like to add one aspect of this particular Maybach model which I found to be lacking and a big, missed opportunity and you should mention it in some future review. The S class Maybach model has extended rear compartments which was achieved by slightly stretching the normal S-class and I couldn't ignore the fact how the engineers missed that opportunity on this model. Even if you examine the proportions of the Maybach GLS in its entirety, you have to admit, how an extended rear section with a slightly longer passenger door would not have only enhanced the entire experience for the rear passenger, but would have at the same time, helped elevate this Maybach GLS from the rest of the GLS line, just like how they did it on the Maybach version of the S class model. As it is now, as nice as it is, I don't think it is quite enough to separate the Maybach model from the rest of the GLS lineup. You can see how they tried but as a luxury "car" buyer, I would look at the Cullinan and look back to the Maybach GLS and I would look back and forth a couple of times and would tell myself. Well, Mercedes tried to get $ 300 000 from me by rebadging what essentially still is a $ 65 000 GLS, but Rolls Royce developed and build an entire new vehicle. Sure, it cost more and I can't look at it from the outside for any extended period of time, but when I sit in the backseat, I don't feel as compromised as I would in the rebadged GLS.

FULL SIZED SUV'S are the best of all worlds" power performance, luxury, safety, roomy, can haul all the family and stuff. Towing 4×4 off road capability ! My family owns a 2005 Yukon 4×4 xl slt with every possible option available. We have 260000 thousand miles on it an it looks an drive's like brand new. I can't list all the options it has it would take to long. Lol. But for anyone with a family nothing comes close too a full sized SUV ! I know they're incredibly expensive but you can most always find a used one in excellent condition for half the price. Have a happy New year everyone and God bless😇

Really like the front look Raz. And side profile not wild about the rear look and lights not do Special but the interior is as you would expect from Mayback and up there with Rolls Royce.
I guess this answers your complaint in one of your earlier GLS videos. Presumably they deliberately held back on the new GLS (in terms of luxury) to set it apart from the ultimate luxury Maybach GLS.

It's got plenty of toys, electronic gadgetry and is indeed a beautiful, well made luxury vehicle but can it also do well off-road like the comparable top-spec Autobiography Range Rover? Up to now I've only seen vids of this GLS 600 parked in a show-room.
