Without Wilhelm Maybach, the modern Mercedes, or even the modern car, might be a very different thing. He was designer of the first "Mercedes" which appeared in 1901, and was probably Gottlieb Daimler's most important partner. He can be credited with the first V engine, first truck, some of the first radiator designs, and a whole host of engines! He was also known respectfully, as the King of Designers.
That first Mercedes 35 he designed was supported by Emil Jellinek whose daughter Mercedes later named the model and the legendary car brand. The car famously had a then unheard of 35HP, long wheelbase, wide track and low height. Less carriage without horse, more modern motor car. After G.Daimler’s death #Maybach left after disputes with DMG and in 1909 Maybach was created, later renamed to "Maybach engine construction", as this was the main purpose of the company, with the first car not coming till a decade later.
He was best known for making engines for the huge Zeppelins, hence where the name for the most famous Classic Maybach car came from. Then, WW2 happened and the Maybach name went dormant - until the 1990’s, when Rolls and Bentley were in the process of resurging under new management, #MercedesBenz saw a void to be filled. So they tried to create a #luxury story out of Maybach’s genuinely fantastic achievements.
With that, the 57 and 62 were born. More expensive than any Rolls, loads of dealers opened in the USA, high sales predicted in various countries, famous people made ambassadors, features in rap videos, and glass box unveils in New York resulted in…. A total sales disaster no one really engaged with. Didn’t help that that MB press didn’t let journalists drive it, rather sit in the back. And didn’t help that the S Class of the time, was already a brilliant car.
November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz - now renamed to Mercedes Maybach. Though they tiptoed in, with a longer upgraded S-Class with a borrowed body from an SE trim car, and some changes to wheels, window trims and an extended interior.
BUT it worked! Being at the right price point, and accepting it’s a tarted up S Class was something customers could jive with, and it was a sales success. So the two facelifts to follow were more daring, more Maybach, with the return of the grille and unique paint available. Then the big signal of change, literally, with the GLS Maybach. Applying the Maybach formula to a different Mercedes to achieve high luxury standards. Again a hit!
So we come to our car today: the new S-Class Maybach based on the W223 new generation S Class. There are tonnes of unique aspects, everything you’d see changed for an AMG for example, changed here on Maybach too or maybe more! Best bit is the bonnet, which you will love!
Size wise VS S-Class LWB, the wheelbase is a whole 18 cm longer. And all of that goes to the rear passengers. Will there be a pullman too? Quite possible I’d put money on it.
Paint is special too, with an optional dual-colour painting with a separating line. It is hand-made and takes up to 1 week to complete one car… unlike minutes to spray a normal S Class; Costs 15k.
As for the engine, here’s the good news it’s a V12 bi turbo! Yes while AMG said no more V12s, Maybach never made the same promise. Our S680 4matic delivers a smooth 612 and 900NM, and you can get a S 580 V8 hybrid, with 503 BHP.
Controlling the power is a new driving mode unique to Maybach called Comfort+, highlighted in rose gold on the digital display! Something we will explore in the video.
All the tech from normal S flows through, like Rear axle steering cutting the turning circle by 2 meters. The 16 airbags, all the top suspension options come standard, except for E Active body control which is optional. That should betray how good the normal S suspension is the Maybach hasn’t needed to do more specific things!
But since the new S is so good, can this ever hope to be even more of a luxury powerhouse? Let’s find out today!

This Mercedes maybach's are the peak of Automobile including all existing Brands. And i had the opportunity to compare them. None other can match it.

I think they should do the double MM batch. Its a smal detail but it can make a lot of clients buy it instead of a S klasse.. it makes it a bit more diffrent and special

Hence I always tell people never compare a 7 series to an S class, because an S class is an entry level Maybach. The s class is in a league of its own.

IMO some versions of Audi virtual cockpit are still the best. Resolution and contrast, easy interface, and the satellite map view is amazing. Unfortunately, some models seem to have different versions.

The perfect executive limousine definitely but personally I prefer the understated elegance of the British competitors. I just cannot handle all of these tablets in the front. It looks like your going behind the wheel of some high tech flight simulator . When I think of the interior of a luxury car I immediately think of lots of leather and wood, an upscale living room on wheels basically, definitely not an S-load of gizmos covered in white leather. So I guess that I am old school when it comes to my taste of the land yachts available today. Glad to see the V12 is back though.

Disagree. It doesnt have the presence or impressiveness. The designer probably got confused or had memory loss, sporty looks but competing in the top echelon of the luxury segment. Look at Bentley and RR and you'll know what mean.

The wheels on the red Maybach do look absolutely spot on. The interior is perfect in every sense, but that capacitance touch controls and the centre screen does not suit a luxury brand like this. A bit of a afterthought.
I never think that if I bought it, I would feel like I bought a new car. Rolls-Royce has preserved its heritage and combined development and modernity in a simple way. Maybach, when I sit inside it, I feel like I'm in Disneyland or a night club with annoying lighting. Why don't you put lights on the seat belts, as they are the only ones that don't light up?

I will have a black one, just for how low-key and basic luxury it is.
My local MB dealer has a Maybach in stock. Very impressive, perhaps the most impressive vehicle I have seen in years. But my taste exclude a white interior, which I particularly dislike and the piano black is not on my options list either. The size of the vehicle reminds me of the American land yachts of decades ago.

U should know, the actual reason mercedes launched Maybach was when mercedes decided upon a luxury saloon to take on the likes of RR as a separate luxury brand, A customer clinic was conducted, in which they confessed that " have reluctance buying a luxury saloon from the makers of A class and smart cars, so they preferred a distinct branding, hence born maybach brand... And I think mercedes stopped customer clinics after that😂

The MM S680 is the best car in the world IMO. The only negative about it is a relatively small trunk (12 cu ft). The car is built for 4 adults. How much luggage can it hold for 4 adults?!

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like if I am spending this much money for a car, you shouldn't need to park it next to the much cheaper (by 1/3) S Class to compare and contrast the differences - I do appreciate the understated nature of the car but eh... I have seen a few around town, and one in particular was being pulled up at a restaurant I happened to be at and was waiting for my car... I was with my parents who are looking at a S class or 7 series, and my Mom commented on the car... I looked at it and took a closer look to discover it was a newer Maybach. It was black, which I don't think is the best colour (two town being nicer) and it just looked like any other S class really. There is never a question when a Rolls Royce pulls as to what it is. I do think there is a market for this type of car, business executives or some type of wealthy person who just would rather live in complete anonymity - I know Elizabeth Taylor had one (early model obviously) and David Geffen - but I just can't imagine spending this much on a glorified S class.

I just do not think that screens for a dash look luxurious and classy. Rolls and Bentley dashes are much nicer looking. IMO
I guess this blends into traffic easier than a RR, being less flashy and recognizable, which would be a huuuge selling point for me. (As if that would ever be a real life decision, hahah)

Maybach looks like a stretched out Hyundai Genesis and KIA Cadenza. It’s pretty much a regular Mercedes Benz S class lengthened like they do with Limousines then slap a crazy price on it.

Why a V12 engine (and need lots of sound/vibration deadening) when you can use even quieter electric motors with insane torque. Luxury segment = EV

Raz…the Maybach has gone from ridiculous old barges sat for years in the carpark at MB Brooklands to at least looking like a car somebody might choose. They have been horrendously gaudy with some dreadful interiors as regards taste but this one…well it is super luxury. However…this will loose skips full of money in no time flat. A super expensive car that will be worthless when still barely used. Sadly it is a beautiful dinosaur…a last gasp for pop star attraction…many will love it..riding in it must be magical but buying one is crazy. I’m not sure MB should be spending money on this except that it brings ideas that will arrive in our daily EV’s in 2/4 years time. Astonishing but crazy…only luxury hotels in Dubai need these as daily taxis.😬😬😬😬😀

I mean it's not for poor people and not for someone caring about the environment and fuel prices .... 🤷 I'd pick a rolls royce any time because luxury isn't technology it isn't features it's the soul put in a car and craftsmanship and the people that put work in it to create a exceptional experience. Something no EV can give period they are commuter cars for the average Joe that's it just like phones. It's like owning a Rolex instead of a smart watch ⌚
