Over the years the Fast S Class has always been an epic thing because it’s a total contradiction. One side ultimate luxury, and then the #AMG dark side of mad performance. over the years had and wild and memorable variants - using the best engines AMG have ever made, some with even Pagani engines.
Our new #MercedesAMG #S63 is insane. It’s a 802 BHP hybrid V8 beast - that has the job of replacing both the S63 and the V12 S65 which is now discontinued.
As I’ve told you guys before, it was an S Class actually began the AMG story. So we are going to cover the whole history of S AMG, from the 300 SEL Rote Sau or “ Red Pig “ all the way to this new E Performance Hybrid!
Our new car still uses the epic 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine but now with a P3 Hybrid system. This has a LSD, permanently excited synchronous electric motor and 2 speed gearbox all in one “electric drive unit” along side a 13.1KW AMG performance battery - with 33km range. The car is powered by AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, and the multi clutch 9 speed gearbox.
The total system output is insane: 802BHP , Torque of 1430 Nm and 0.60 in 3.3 seconds!
We have loads more like new Recuperation modes, Active engine mounts for first time - Anti roll stabilisation too - so much to try and negate the extra weight. But will it work? Or will to fail like the GT63S E? Let’s find out!

This is what the C63S was supposed to be. Hopefully MB learns what makes the S63 so great with the hybrid system and tries to improve the implementation in it.

I was a sucker for the W220 and W215 S and CL Classes.
I wanted a CL65 so bad, but would've gladly taken an S65 instead....my roofing boss at the time bought a brand new S55, then when it needed brakes, realized how much everything cost, so traded it back it on an S600 which I wasn't mad about, I absolutely loved the wheel design of that generation S600.
What a machine!!! Superb.

It's strange how Mercedes didn't give this car the Power Dome hood that all other AMG's have. A strange omission.

My mom and her sister had the W140 S class (300 SE and 500 SEL, respectively). I loved the V12 badge on the rear pillar that the S600 had.

The GT63 E performance suffered from the hybrid system because it was hyper-focused on handling and so the extra weight had to be a compromise, but the more relaxed S-Class is a much better choice. Electric drive mode provides the power when you need it and the efficiency for short trips or sitting in traffic. Cutting edge ICE performance should be saved for cars like the GT roadster, and the big limousines should keep their ludicrous power numbers combined with luxury.
Everyone loves it because its a pre-facelift E63 in an S body with electric motors and batteries creating and moving the weight

Only negative is the reduced boot space. But other than that, this drivetrain makes a lot of sense in the S Class as weight isn't really a factor for the S class.
Great look into the s63. Interior looks comfortable, but not in love with the exterior. Makes me wish the c63 kept the v8.

I like how they resisted putting fins and scoops everywhere. This somehow still passes as a luxury car and not a sport one.
I thought I read somewhere there was also an S73 version coming after this as well, I know they ™️ it in 2018. I'm sure that it'd be closer to 900bhp or better which would be wicked bonkers.

Basically, Mercedes AMG were going to launch both S class AMGs the AMG S63 E with a 700hp hybrid and the AMG S73 E with 800hp. I honestly don't know what happened but they've replaced the AMG 73 to AMG 63 E PERFORMANCE.

@@brandonchism6960 I don't know much about these cars, but according to the internet, the battery's capacity is bigger in the S580e (merc claims 63 miles, top gear says 45 miles) vs the S63's (20.5 miles claimed).
The S580e's ICE is an I6 like you wanted.
This is from Mercedes: "The integration of the power electronics into the transmission housing reduces the installation space required, while also simplifying the assembly processes at the production plant."
My thinking was, if you're looking for a long distance cruiser, that is comfortable, it makes no sense to go AMG.
AMG is a high performance brand, and it's focus is mostly performance.

Good it doesn't come with the "Power dome", maybe we have come full circle? Every Mercedes now has Powerdomes, not special. Actually I changed out my CLS 53AMG front hood with the 2019 to get a more sleek looking front.

In terms of decision-making, Mercedes is the most annoying brand in the world. They are able to put so much effort to make such a great car like this, but at the same time they decide few years earlier that they not going to produce S-coupe version. Such of waste without two door version.
They wanted more focus on the SL Roadster and the CLE
