I worked at O’Hare and a buddy worked at Sams in the 80’s. They were kings of towing construction trailers. Instead of companies having to make trailers road safe and license and insure them. Sams would tow them. Used any old B-model,r-model internationals anything. It’s weird in the 80’s they had one Mfg. wrecker body. They were all pipe booms and army wreckers and 1 Holmes 600. They had a ton of trucks. Nice seeing them get some attention.
Awesome I love hearing stories like that!
The Wittenberg is a company that reworked ex - GI 6X6s w fiberglass hoods, front fenders & roofs! All the wreckers are great! What a find!!!
Awesome I was really curious on who made them, thanks!
Man, that is tow truck heaven!! I really wished I could take that blue Autocar home!!
That thing was super nice
Would you ever expect to see this many semis hiding out in Chicago?
What ya think they want for that transtar cabover?
@@keepontruckinoutlawlife1248I would think it would go pretty cheap, but it would be some considerable work to get it out of its spot
Yup chicago is a transportation hub mecca
That's my favorite truck since 1976 and drove them at the end of there life . The were off the road by 1994 as company trucks 4070 International transtar CEO
Heck yeah
There is a guy in ohio just got one off a farm, running it hauling lumber to atlanta ....he actually has a team driver
So cool!!! I love those old holmes wreckers, the old fords too.
Thanks for watching, I love the holmes plates on the wreckers displaying the models.
Nice Transtar looks like one of the last year built 1981 by the steering wheel
Hmm I didn’t know that
Use to haul coal with a TranStar just like that 😊
I like them!
Talk about taking u back in time!!! Thanks bro i realky love old school!🎉
Thats what I love to do!
That white L 8000 is actually an LTS 8000. It is the set back front axle. .
Hmm I see now that you pointed that out, I’d never heard of an LTS, thanks!
Wow good truck
I agree!
I like your optimistic viewpoint on all this old iron lol. Interesting vid thanks bro..
Thanks lol, I’m used to buying much worse stuff, hoping they all go to good homes.
You should go to the historic tow truck museum in Chattanooga TN. They have all kinds of stuff including a wall dedicated to all the tow truck drivers who have died while doing their jobs recovering vehicles and people from wrecks
Wow sounds like an amazing place to go
I used to live in the Chicago area. I was a train conductor for Chicago Central, Illinois Central. First few years i got laid off in the summer and drove for RI Busse.....sams got me once. What happened to them? I no longer live in illinois.
They are still in business, they just have to make room for newer stuff.
Thanks for the story on them saving you! Do you remember what truck it was by chance?
@@weldingandwheeling9883 it was the Kenworth you showed....I saw the R model macks a lot.....as a kid I did see that white military truck it was stationed down the road from were I lived...
They were fun to drive
I agree!
Alot of these trucks i witnessed growing up going up and down RT 64 ir north ave back in the 70s to the 2000s
I’m glad you got to see them again, I would of loved to see them in there prime!
Some nice trucks
I agree! Thanks for watching!
What is the back story here? Did the owner pass away? Do they plan to pull these out so we can come see them? Is there a way to get prices?
They are still in business, just clearing some space and making some money for new trucks.
I’m not sure on the tactic for getting them out to sell, sooner or later they are all going to have to come out. For prices you’ll have to contact the guys
The KW trans looked like a 2 speed air splitter, they were common on straight air splitter 2 speed rears in the late 60s and early 70s🤷♂️
I’m sorry I meant 3 speed rears
Petes a 359 short nose
Hmm cool, I've never seen a 3-speed rear
Agreed!
What you think they would want for the international trans star cabover?
I would think it’s pretty cheap but I don’t know really.
@@weldingandwheeling9883 ya you would think but never know
Are they having an auction or are you their way of advertising?
No auction, just advertising the trucks for them to sell individually
what the big M whithe truck?
I’m not sure what brand truck it is, but it’s a old converted army truck
@@weldingandwheeling9883 MARMON
M is for Marmon . Army Version
Awesome I never knew Marmon made trucks like these.
Call Jamie Davis.
Ha! I like you're thinking
How much for the army truck
I am unsure on the prices, you would have to contact the owners
