As someone that lives in Chattanooga Tennessee and somebody that worked for Miller industries for 8 years I can appreciate this museum a lot more than some would,... Everyone should check out this museum at least one time in their life
Wow, just stumbled upon your video of the very nice tour of the tow museum. Thank you. Never been there but have known about it for years. I am an old "Tow Dog" who has towed and recovered many a vehicle over the years with all types of equipment. Whether slinging and short chaining, to roll backs, to stingers. You name it, I've done it. Best part was recoveries and rescuing people. I am a certified tower through the IITR. A very dangerous job where there were many close calls. Everytime I would get a call for a vehicle broken down on the highway it was like going into a battlezone. Had cars go by me at high rates of speed just inches from me. If there was a wreck blocking all lanes it's your job to clear that highway quickly and effortlessly. So a salute to all my tow brothers who have given their lives doing this dangerous but necessary job.
Oh wow very cool George, so glad you enjoyed the tour/video! Yes, that is a VERY dangerous job in which (most of) the general public doesn't even realize. I was taught from my Dad to get over to the other lane while an emergency vehicle was pulled over and I taught my Son that too. 110% Respect from me to you for all your hard work and effort that you do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So true..... Yes, plenty of seating and the bathrooms were spotless. It's a great museum that you will really enjoy if you ever get a chance to visit David.
My "second car" was a 1970 C30 with a Holmes 660 split boom. First job, 1975, 16 years old towing in the evenings. Cool truck, had cherry bombs, a 350, and a big stack of 4x4s for cribbing up bumpers so the valence panels didn't get mashed in. Cool tour, thanks.
I used to ride the wreckers and hang at my uncle Kenny’s garage all summer, RIP uncle Kenny, he had two 72’ Fords both packing built 428’s and Holmes 440’s and through a set of header’s you’d have thought a stock car was coming. Thanks for the vid brother, great stuff. The Autocar and Mack were definitely my faves too, love the HD trucks. I’m thinking about buying a 77’ DM800 Mack to pull low boys with. 300 Mack motor, Tri-Plex 15 speed and #65,000 lb bogies and a #25,000 lb front axle she’s a beast.

It's truly amazing how the manufacturer's in the day spared no expense when building the older trucks. Huge front grills with rounded chrome bumpers. Massive flared fenders with long running boards. It was simple, but very elegant. Even the interior was clean and uncluttered. You really don't see that in vehicles today. Most vehicles , cars and trucks pretty much look a like. It became more about how to make it cheap and garner the most profits than style and quality. A lot of those trucks in that museum have been around for a long time. You won't see to many vehicles today be around in 60 or 70 years. Have a safe weekend.

The parent company had a very difficult time keeping employees so when they couldn’t find their driver’s, the workload got passed to our company, which really confused customers, and burned me out. When we were bought out, all of our seniority was gone. After having 3 weeks vacation, I was knocked back to only 1 week, plus many other problems. I loved the work and to this day, I miss it. Sometimes. Sometimes the hours were long and it was difficult on my family. It sounded quite romantic and very befitting that you and your wife spent 8 hours in a tow-truck museum. The reason why I say so is because as a couple spend their lives together, there will be times when one will depend on the support of the other and will need to be pulled-up emotionally and mentally or perhaps, 'towed-up' would be the better word. From time to time, one half of the relationship will need to set-down the law and other made to tow the line. May you both continue to have many more years of happiness!
Here is a interesting fact some of your viewers might like. In the 70's my Dad and I spotted this "" towing apparatus "" in Florida for sale. It was equivalent to the red boom "'" 55 seconds "" into your video, but, it was on a double axle. You would then TOW it behind your truck. This guy who invented it, built it during his spare time at work. When he went to patent it, his place of employment told him it belonged to THEM since he built it on their time, not on HIS time. My Dad never did buy it for some reason which I forget. Never have seen one since. Just a boom on a axle (2) that you would tow.
Stumbled on this place several years ago on vacation! My wife wasn’t possessing nearly as much excitement as I, so I dropped her at the motel to nap while my son and I explored the history of hooking! I found it much more impressive than Rock City! Ha! It’s a really well done museum with an incredible sampling of equipment from several eras! The three hours that we were there, we were the only folks present, so I’m not sure I agree with your declaration that it’s “a happening place”, but it’s well worth the trip! As I recall, my favorite piece was that old Army wrecker! Large, in charge, and just dripping with mechanical intrigue! This is my first visit to your channel, and I’m wondering if you’re the same Throttle Power that comments frequently on Minnesota Max’s RUclips channel? Long time sub to him, and subbing to you now! Great tour!
my parents used take me to go see Chattanooga Lookouts games growing up 99'--05', and we would go look at the trains. we are from georgia but its only a couple hour drive

I rented a building decades ago across the street from there. That's where my shop was until I made enough wrenching cash to buy a Big building a few blocks from there.
Agree, I would have liked to have seen them too..... But since it's a Museum we can't touch (open and close hoods) which is understandable. Hope you enjoyed the video as this is a really cool Museum!!!
There is one tow truck,,that many don't know about,,the Jetliner Tug,,they look like tanks. That bubble nose should have been with two rears,,,very nice,,and that KEI tow truck,,what can that put put lift?
Yes, I will go there with great pleasure, most of these trucks arrived in Brazil and helped in the development of Brazil, especially here in the State of Rio Grando do Sul. maneco - Porto ALEGRE-RS -Brasil.
@@frklein1 When we were there they were closed so we went to our regular spot (when in town) the City Cafe Diner. Have you been to that restaurant? Every time we have been there it's super busy!

Glad you enjoyed it Joe, yes, it's well worth visiting!
Trucks are like people. They are both beautiful and unique in their own ways.
So true Tim!!!!
Nice Tim
Glad you enjoyed it Keith. Are there any truck or tow truck museums where you live?

@@keithsmodelsandrcs6593 Ok, very cool Keith!
Very well said Andrew!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for the kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed the vid.
What a kewl museum. I'm building a 49 chevy Service truck with a wrecker boom & sling set up.
Aaaaaa very cool, that is going to be nice when it's finished!!!!
Yeah that orange and white wrecker is my favorite also
Oh yea!!!!!!!!
I love these old tow trucks my dad always use keep one.
Very cool Peggy!!! 🙂
Oh wow, very very interesting Dave! Thank you for sharing..... 👍🙂
Great tour!
The old Army wrecker was really cool Tom. Yes, that would be me, I enjoy the pics/vids Max puts out. Glad you enjoyed the the vid Tom!

I would of liked to see the engines.
Agree, I would have liked to have seen them too..... But since it's a Museum we can't touch (open and close hoods) which is understandable. Hope you enjoyed the video as this is a really cool Museum!!!

Cool, have you ate at the Purple Daisy Cafe?
@@THROTTLEPOWER no, I haven’t.
@@frklein1 When we were there they were closed so we went to our regular spot (when in town) the City Cafe Diner. Have you been to that restaurant? Every time we have been there it's super busy!
Great place, but the collection of diecast wreckers is incomplete. They don't have the hot wheels's heavy hitcher and haulinator.
Aaaaa, I did not notice that Nicholas. I wonder why, is it a rare one?
@@THROTTLEPOWER They were released in 2016, but they're hard to find nowadays, despite the fact they're still in production
@@nicolasmanzo9654 Ok ok, thank you Nicolas.
I hope that Jamie Davis has visited this site.
👍👍👍
You were talking about Holmes wrecker body. I can tell you a story of how they try to steal blueprints from a guy's designs in Illinois Allen's Corner Garage. Is claim to fame was when they were building the Sears Tower and the crane fell in he pulled it out. 10 stories down
Oh wow, very interesting Raymond!!! That would be cool to hear.
Awesome!!!!!!
Thank you Jared!!
