    I lost my dad, mother and brother in the 90's Yugoslavia war, then my uncle adopted me and raised me as his own son...Everything was going well until he passed away when I was 14. Life of crime, drugs abuse and a lot more caught up with me and I spent 6 years in prison. Once I was released, this and many other Eminem songs helped me getting back to normal life.
    Love your reactions btw. Keep up brother

    Hey! Me again...
    When he mentions the 'list' he is listing his favorite rappers. Basically saying "Here's my list of greatest rappers of all time... Pac, Biggie, Jayz.. etc... and THEN ME."
    But throughout his career he has been dragged by so many people because he's white, because others considered him a pop star instead of a true rapper (especially early in his career).
    So he's saying when others don't put him on their list isn't doesn't bother him. Even though he knows so many people will never accept him just based on those factors. This song is from the early 2000s when he was still ascending into superstardom.

      Reggie (aka Redman), Jay Z, Tupac and Biggie, Andre(3000) from Outkast, Jada(kiss), Kurupt, Nas and then me.
      But yes, just to say that it's kinda a thing in rap to have your own/argue about top3, top5 or top10 mc's. It's like a whole thing in hip hop.
      Also I think the list in my vague memory was kinda a response to something said in another song by another artist but I don't remember it right off the bat

      I was going to make a comment on this, but this pretty much sums it up pretty well. Just want to add that it's also common for rappers to be asked for their list and then a big deal is made if certain names are left off. For instance, Eminem was left off of Snoop Dogg's list a while back and everyone was talking about it. Truth be told, Snoop just really idolizes very early 80's and 90's rappers, but that's now how it was told when he dropped his list.

    My parents had a problem with Em too....I was a 10 year old girl when The Marshall Mathers LP came out. My 15 year old brother at the time bought the CD and didn't like most of the songs so he gave it to me after seeing how much I adored it....all my dad had to say to my mom was "there's a song where he kills his wife" and my divorced parents took my CD away. 😭I was soooo heart broken and probably the most upset I ever was at them in my childhood. But I was also sneaky and found it pretty quickly in my mom's fire safety lock box of all things and listened to it still almost everyday until I started living mostly with my dad. What I find so funny is I was deep into metal music (starting at age 12) by the time my mom FINALLY gave me back that CD at age 16....she and my dad never even tried to take those away which were just as dark, sometimes darker. 😅 🤷‍♀️ thank you for understanding and loving Eminem now. I'm 32 now and he will always have a place in my heart. ❤️

When they dated or were together, they were in the news A LOT, because he was beating her up and they were doing drugs, and this and that. So when he says "The press's wet dream, like Bobby and Whitney", he's basically saying that he creates so much news for every paper/tabloid that they're um... experiencing a lot of pleasure whenever he makes the headlines. LOL best way to describe it.

  • @zoegartham312
    @zoegartham312 2 года назад +17

    You hit the nail on the head, and we're not even past the intro of the song. "I needed to hear this right now." This. This right here is why Eminem is the GOAT. Fine, fine, there are many reasons, but there are very few artists out there where you can look at a catalogue of their work and say that they have a song to fit every feeling, every mood that we have. You feel worthless, depressed, like your life is meaningless? Listen to Sing for the Moment, specifically the 3rd verse, though the whole thing is great. Life struggles dragging you down, need some encouragement to stand up and push through it? Till I Collapse (and many others) are great to hear for that. In a goofy, fun mood wanting to just crack up and sarcastically throw shit at the world? "White America", "Criminal", and "Kill You" are just 3 of many Eminem's songs that would be perfect. Relationship issues? Anger issues? Drugs? Sex? Censorship? Eminem literally covers it all (and then some). Whatever the mood you are in, there is always an Eminem song that you can relate to on a deeply personal level.
    Only a handful of artists ever come close to having that level of impact on their craft. Handel, Mozart, Bach, Brahms, Beethoven, and others did it with Classical music. Picasso, Van Goh, Da Vinci, Michelangelo, and many more did it with art, drawing, painting, and sculpting. Eminem does it with words.

      It's sad that every genre but rap has a goat. Unfortunately you have to have something measurable or you cannot compare one to the other but rap will never put anything measurable in place I believe. Because as soon as they do that and you put anybody up against anybody else you know you're handing that award to slim shady. Ant no one even close to accomplishing as much as he has overcoming as much as he has or just skill and ability he has. The only reason I believe that most people don't have him on goat status now is he lived.

    • @zoegartham312
      @zoegartham312 2 года назад

This song really gets to me, its up there with Beautiful Pain ft Sia for me as far as when I am ready to just quit, and throw in the towel it makes me quit being a bitch and get up and work my ass off until I am back ahead. I need that energy right now... Love how you are able to recognize the quality of the lyrics but also admit to lacking the wider background knowledge to really understand all the referances in them. It gives off a real sense of honesty and that you are humble. This was what really made me enjoy your reaction.
    Me, I’m a Millenial I guess (b1984), was a teenager when Em came about and he was a major influence growing up. And at that time he got so much attention because of the various «shocking content» that those who didn’t really take the time to listen to Em had such a off view of him that it got frustrating.
    Cuz whenever he was brought up in context of being a part of the influences that made me ME, if the person wasn’t sort of a hiphophead them self I knew that I would have to start that tedious long explanation of «no, even though ‘yes, what you think is also true, but this and that» and then have to try to first educate them on Em to get them to understand how his influence on me isn’t what or how you assume…and yadayada, anyway.
    Sorry, this just unleashed some childhood memories and feelings 😂
    And you being, I think, around the same age as my parents, but still having that open, humble and honest approach even though you admitted to first having that sort of same view on Em as I mentioned, I really apprecciated that. It was nice.
    So yeah, keep it up. Don’t know if you still are doing these vids, I guess this was made a while back. But it’s only the second vid I’ve seen of yours, so I’ll catch up eventually.

But when we were learning drill our chief drill instructor came in our squadbay with a stereo and played this song. We drilled our rifle movements to the beat of this song. It's how we learned to stay on rythme. Doubt Eminem knows but this track was atleast used to train a platoon in drill at Paris Island in 2016. I also discovered NF at boot camp at church. He uses to be a religious rapper. The song they played was "start over" I believe. NF does the hook. It's pretty old.

    So regarding the "for shizzle my whizzle" part, that's a variation of a famous catchphrase of Snoop Dogg's which goes "Fo shizzle my nizzle" nizzle referring to a black person, so you see how Em changed it to fit for a white person - whizzle. Oh, and the meaning is "for sure, my friend" that sorta of thing. The rest is just a way of paying respect to Snoop and his way of rapping 😁

    The hook is sang by Nate Dogg. He died in 2011 because of several strokes throughout the years. In late 90. and early 2000's he was the hook God. Every song on which he made the hook, became a classic (Xzibit feat. Nate Dogg - Multiply, Eminem feat. 50 Cent, Nate Dogg - Never Enough, Eminem feat. Dr. Dre, Snoop, Dogg, Xzibit, Nate Dogg - Bitch Please II, Westside Connection feat. Nate Dogg - Gangsta Nation, Obie Trice feat. Nate Dogg - The Set Up, Tupac feat. Nate Dogg - Thugs Get Lonely Too, Eminem feat. Nate Dogg - Shake That, Xzibit feat. Eminem, Nate Dogg - My Name, 50 Cent feat. Nate Dogg - 21 Questions, Dr. Dre feat. Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg - The Next Episode)

    My favourite Eminem album! I’m a lifelong fan and have seen him grow and fall! I’m in the age bracket where when he first arrived on the scene my parents didn’t want me to listen to him. Bang smack in the middle of the pop era a white dude arrives and parents hated it! Politicians and the rap genre didn’t exactly welcome him at first so his early stuff was really interesting especially now I’ve grown up and actually understand his lyrics and who he was talking about. Mosh is another example of his early “ish” push back but on the war in Iraq

    Eminen has always been seen as an outkast in the music industry because of his race. The list he says area ll rappers he looks up to, that he doesnt mind being listed behind in terms of greatness. Oh, and thats Nate Dogg on the hook.

    Nate Dogg is on the hook btw fun fact since Nate suddenly passed away Em commemorate of him on every single concert every time when he performs a song what they did together for example this or Shake That. Like he makes the crowd sing NATE DOGG name.
