You're catching things a lot of people don't. I applaud you for your understanding and appreciation of this style of music. Continue your work good sir. And the "think you're getting crowded but capped line has another meaning, don't know if it's been pointed out. Another layer to it is, in the gang, music, any career, you think you're getting a promotion but you get fired. Because getting capped is slang for being murdered. So you think life is going good and better then something comes along and destroys or ends it. But you gotta battle on to overcome.

"That last Relapse cd was ehh, perhaps I ran them accents into the ground" Relapse (2009) was his first album since getting sober after spending a few years without putting music out. Lyrically it is very clever and complex especially when it comes to multisyllabic rhyme schemes and horror style themes. But he uses accents in most of the songs, that allowed him to make words rhyme that wouldn't actually rhyme but some people thought they were annoying.

This song is probably the eminem song that has the most personal connection with me. Its not my favorite of his but it's the one I connected to the most. My older brother showed me this song when I was 10 years old. My Dad was at his worst point of his alcoholism. We have different dads so technically we’re half brothers but that doesn’t matter, he’s my best friend and we were both raised by the same mom and grew up in the same house.
My dad spent weeks and weeks only in his bathroom except for when he went out to get more alcohol. He would be passed out non-stop, waking up to drink more and pass back out. If he ran out of vodka when the liquor store was closed or he was physically unable to get there he would chug Listerine. All he cared about was knocking himself back out so he didn’t have to think about how miserable he was.
I had first gotten into Eminem a year earlier but this song is what made him realize he was my favorite artist. This song gave me hope for my father and said all the things I wished he would. I realized a few months ago that growing up I saw Eminem as a father figure since I never had one. I would listen to the songs he wrote for Haile and imagine having a Dad that would do that for me. He always said exactly what I wanted and needed to hear. He may not have been the best influence with some of his songs but he's who taught me that good Dads are out there and what it means to be one. He’s the closest thing I feel like I had to a Dad, besides my brother since he's 10 years older than me and took care of me a lot.
I wish I could say my Dad and I are close now that he's 10 years clean but he doesn’t put in the effort. He did for a few years after he got clean but once things got hard with me being a teenager and all he sort of just gave up. He got remarried and gained 4 new stepkids. Every once in a while he tells me he misses me and we should get together soon but never follows through on making plans. I see him maybe once a year. When I was suicidal last September from my breakup, he came to the hospital to make himself feel better but never really checked up on me after that. Every once in a while now I reach out to him but he usually doesn’t reply, then will later apologize that he’s a “bad Dad” but he never tries to improve.
So recently I decided I’m done trying, I never needed him anyway. My Mom was both of my parents. She taught me everything I needed to know and never once abandoned me, no matter how hard it got or if I exploded at her. I have been diagnosed with PTSD from a lot of different events in my life and it triggers fear of abandonment, but I always know I have her.
My brother’s dad was a complete narcissist as well but it drove my brother to be better. He has 2 boys and is one of the best Dads I’ve ever met, he’d do anything for those kids and would never ever leave them. And I know I will be a better Dad than my own someday when I have kids.
Thanks to whoever read my story! I was originally only going to write a sentence or two but it really helped to write about some of these repressed emotions. I hope anyone else who's “been down the same road” knows that they can be better and learn from their parent’s mistakes. You define who you are, not your genetics.

Just FYI, Eminem might be sayign that Relapse was meh here. But it's truly an iconic work of art to most of the fans. Yes, the themes are gruesome but it only radiates creativity. We see movies like Final Destination, SAW, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and consider them great and not spit on the screen writers. There shouldn't be this double standards for music. And Relapse is not just gore/horror themes. It is a rhyming cookbook.

Always great for a surprise early Eminem drop! I totally understand why everyone has started you out on Em's later, sober, serious songs, based on your personality. But it's at the cost of falling in love with his music and lyrics from the beginning of his career, back when he exploded into the rap industry with his first hit, "My Name Is". I know The Real Slim Shady reaction is in the pipeline, but My Name Is will take you all the way back to the beginning so you can really appreciate how much he's developed, progressed and improved over his nearly 25 year career. This is Em’s most important song in modern day as of 2010-2022 is “Not Afraid” this song introduced us to what Em was becoming he evolved and became better than what he was not just as a Hip Hop Artist/Rapper but overall as a human being Em is a better man than he was Em inspires me till this day and when Not Afraid came out I felt a sense of maturity from Em frfr Sobriety was the best thing to happen to Em’s life Em could’ve went out sad but he rose from those ashes and is back to being the man he was always chasing and is continuing to do what he loves and that’s having a stable life while continue doing his passion which is Hip Hop which he’s The Goat Of👊🏽🐐🙌🏽✨🎯💯(Also everytime I listen to Not Afraid I feel motivated and joyful yet emotional cause Em put his soul into this track and the choir was a nice touch as well to this track and Em can sing check out songs like She Loves Me,In Too Deep,Higher,Twisted etc. and the message at the beginning was mainly him speaking about his period of drug-addict depression, which has inspired his rebirth/sobriety and now Em is 12 or 13 years of being sober)
