@@ocularpressure4558 This phenomenon is because of FMVSS 108...If the DRL is close to the Direction Indicator, or even incorporated, You have to turn off the DRL during indicating. The same idea applies to the rear lights, saying “if indicating the brake lights have to turn off...The reason is a better signal perception/recognition.”
Same here only I think they were like $6 on etsy. They work great and way cheaper than a wiring harness. Plus, they’re legal because the b/u lights stay on.
Wow I've never thought about that but you're absolutely right. My camera is almost useless at night. Would love to see a video explaining the process of doing something like this :)
Re-install the reverse camera on a higher position....... Like the on the latch of the tail gate..... There are custom latches that provides the slots where the Reverse camera can be fixed to...... Just a suggestion..... PEACE ✌️✌️
It may depend on state law, but for the most part, I don't think most law enforcement officers would have a problem with it as long as you are not driving on the freeway or highway with your license plate light off.
What’s the modification called? I’m trying to find it on the Internet to buy on Amazon. Because that sounds like an amazing idea cause I always have a glare on my reverse camera especially when it’s rained and the lens is a little fuzzy from it being rained on, and then humidity, and all that let me know.
As long as the light come back on when you’re driving, I don’t see why not, because it’s not like you’re reversing the whole night where the cops don’t see your license plate
I know that in my home state, the license plate lights must be lit or it's a violation, but since this only effects those lights while in reverse, I don't think it would ever be noticed.
id imageine in a perfect world if you would get cited for this you could easily fight it in court just take pictures before the mod and after and fight it a a safety feature and your insurance might go down too this could result in toyota (if a widespread mod) programming this into the pcm and issueing a safety recall or just totally using the aftermarket part but in all reality you would prob end up in court and win and nothing else would happen...
Not illegal would be my thought. Only need the license plate lights when on the street , seeing as people don't normally drive in reverse down the road , I don't see a legal issue. Usually only in reverse in parking lots , driveways , etc , & only momentarily on actual streets.
In CA I am guessing its illegal but what cop is looking for an unlit license plate while the vehicle is backing up??? So I might be the minority here but the glare on my 3rd Gen Taco has never been a problem or issue.
I like that… as for legality, here in NYC, I’d have to say it does violate the the plate light statue…. But I would never have written a violation for it.
I think the cops have bigger and worse things to to worry about..other than our license plate light going off in reverse.. in other words, don't sweat it.. keep up the videos..your doing 👍
Technically that would be a ticket for the time you were in reverse lol but 10000% no one is going to both with that on a Tacoma thats not a bucket lol
You’d say that, but people are getting ticketed for the pettiest things that you’d have to sacrifice time and other resources to actually notice up close in person. Highway patrol in any state, in particular, will be relentless if they’re having a slow or bad day, and you happen to pass by driving a “sportier” car or whatever way their confirmation bias influences them to behave in.
Happy Sunday! Here's the full video where I installed this if you want more detail: ruclips.net/video/X1_eYLNVGA8/видео.html
As long is it makes our lives better. It’s legal
That’s why I got 5% tint
That’s why I do crank.
That’s my excuse for my medicinal LMG
Can't be any less legal than headlights that turn off on the side you activate the turn signal on. 😉
I always thought that was a stupid idea having one of your headlights turn off when your blinker goes on
@@ocularpressure4558 hell yea it is. It's something to do with led headlights
@@jaycustom21 u sure it’s not just a “TO BE DIFFERENT “ design by the manufacturer

@@jaycustom21 but the end result is not ideal for the driver…. Horrible idea 💡 if I do say so myself
I bought $12 blinders that block a portion of the plate lights and they work well. 1 minute install and no routing of wires.
Same here only I think they were like $6 on etsy. They work great and way cheaper than a wiring harness. Plus, they’re legal because the b/u lights stay on.
What's the name of the product? I want to get one myself
Link?
@@TRDskeet Sorry, I’ve been looking for it fit about 20 minutes. Maybe it wasn’t Etsy. When I find it I’ll post it.
@@mastrsk8 did u find it?
You’re on the FBI list buddy
I have LED on my licenses plate light change the lightbulb and it’s amazing
Not much is legal in CA so dont worry about it
Wow I've never thought about that but you're absolutely right. My camera is almost useless at night. Would love to see a video explaining the process of doing something like this :)
This is legal, because it is not something that is used on the open roads, highways.. this is used in a parking lot, etc.. No worries.
I own a 2020 Toyota Highlander since I have a family. I wish I owned a Tundra or Tacoma. Maybe later down the road.

Probably just older 3rd gens, my 22 doesn't have this problem
Seeing as my tundra does this from the factory, it's probably not illegal
maybe don't upgrade your license plates to LED bulbs and you won't need this at all. stock license plate lights don't cause any issues
You’re under citizens arrest now
It may depend on state law, but for the most part, I don't think most law enforcement officers would have a problem with it as long as you are not driving on the freeway or highway with your license plate light off.
thats funny because in my case the back up light actually helps me 😅
The listening comprehension in this one is weak. Those are license plate lights not back up lights
@@ionlax28 do even own a 3rd gen tacoma?
super cool. very smart idea.
I don’t like backup cameras I will always use my mirrors but it might be helpful for some people
i dunno why that wouldnt be legal? its accually a really good idea.

sounds like a design flaw on toyotas part.
My camera works perfectly at night. Not sure what you guys are talking about???
You can change the camera settings on the Tacoma 🤦🏼♀️ 🤦🏼♀️ 🤦🏼♀️

You need to see where you are going.. so Toyota show " dimm " the light..
Well in my experience I’ve been pulled over for not having the license plate light out, “not working” for a probable cuz of a stolen vehicle.
In CA I am guessing its illegal but what cop is looking for an unlit license plate while the vehicle is backing up??? So I might be the minority here but the glare on my 3rd Gen Taco has never been a problem or issue.
Love your hair
I don’t see why it would be illegal they come on on gear
It’s legal, my Jeep has that feature
i would not worry bout it. Really, how long are you in reverse for?
Nash I'll pass it is like everyone and there momma using their backup camera now and still can't reverse park properly. 🤷🏽♂️
I love Chloe :)
I have it on my 2009 Tacoma don't know why Toyota changed it. Showing the video it helps you better so who cares
Is is very legal. You just can't drive without out but reverse is fine for them to go out.
Activating Stealth mode when reversing
With the brightest light on the car on
Need a switch that kills all lights external & internal
Real drivers don’t use back up cameras
Same on my 17 Tundra.
I picked up the 3D printed blinders that some intrepid soul is selling, and they're a solid alternative...
Question is how many people got pulled over backing up?
Why would it be illegal? It's obviously not
Toyota this gtr that. Is all I hear girls talking about when it comes to cars. We get it your our biggest fan
I would not care if it's legal or not the thing is you can see better when you're backing up which I would think be a lot better and safer

No no do they do not… their bread abs butter is traffick infractions very few crimes generate revenue like vehicle codes
If that glare bothers you you're relying on that camera way to much. Learn how to drive.
Smart cookie
Ahem... how much are Tacomas again?
Glare caps are like 3 bucks
Take out the led bulbs
Where did you find this. I would definitely be interested in getting it.
Who cares. Breaking the law is awesome.
Yes!!!
Should just replace the camera that has a better resolution and you good to go 😂
Cool idea but I have never had that issue lol
Or Toyota can upgrade the 1984 camera
Its turn off your headlights your reverse lights are still there
Yo! I need this!
Good tip!
Don't worry, nobody will notice that 😎

Makes sense to me 👍
Or you could just look over your shoulder, and check your surroundings.
I wonder if she reads the comments
Or, use your mirrors lol
Wether its legal or not, the officer can shut his mouth, this is helpful, and any officer harassing you over it is not useful.
My GX has the same issue
🤔 interesting....
What is with your hair? can't you wear it another way?
Thats a Toyotas fault tbh
Dope
100%
Got a link??
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Says the same person who installed a license plate LED light, powered by your tail lights.... Lol
❤
Or how about to new bulbs that are less bright.. the fact they created a modification for thay says.. toyota sucks! 😂
Saludos
Or you can just back up like a normal human being. And use your head instead of the camera.
Cops got better things to worry about then your license plate lights not turning on while on reverse.
