Here is a sample BAT file. Create it by creating a new .txt file in notepad, and pasting this text inside it. Then save it to your
/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Fallout 4/
folder and name it "robots".
To execute, open the console in the game (press the tilde ~ key) and select your settler. Then, type "bat robots" without the quotes

Well, you'd better get up, because another settlement needs our help. Here, I'll mark it on your map.
Lmfao!
That happened to me a lot in Fallout 3... Clover really liked explosives.
Unsolved
At least the attack ended with a bang.
LOL ever have him use a fatman on a radroch ? that was a blast let me tell u .
Back in my day we needed training to use power armor. Now any old settler can use it.
Honestly, just using power armor wouldn't probably require special training. Just like most firearms - you can give a gun to anyone with no training and they will shoot something, they'll just be bad at it and they probably won't be able to maintain it. Same might go for PAs
I always fear one of my settlers will break my X-01 suit during a castle attack.
Update: I don't worry anymore because I seem to have misplaced my X-01 suit.
Nobody touches my PA. I take the fusion cores out so they can't be used.
In Fallout 3 and maybe New Vegas, you can give power armor to your companions and they’ll wear it, and I doubt every single one of them had training.
I just keep all my power armors in their own camp where there’s no settlers. Remember to take out the fusion cores so nobody steals them.
my castle got attacked and when I was looting a behemoth I saw a settler calmly walking back inside holding my grognack ax.
It's what Grognack would want
Just trade it back
Put them in the stocks for stealing your stuff.

It seems like kind of a missed opportunity on Bethesda's part to not have a quest series for the Minutemen to go on an offensive against the Gunners, I mean lore wise once the Institute and possibly the BoS are gone the Gunners are next down the list of threats. They are much more organized than raiders and have better equipment and they occupy Quincy and they probably would start targeting the Minutemen when they try to get back up since they would be a threat to their operations
This is what I like to think that happens post-game, maybe some months after the ending. The Minutement continue expanding and gaining the support of the civilian population until the Gunners can't keep ignoring them any longer. Maybe the Minutemen could use some propaganda tactics to gain the trust of the people like the NCR did lol. Imagine a bunch of posters with Preston's dorky face plastered all over Bunker Hill. "Citizens of the Commonwealth! We will no longer bow back to the demands of immoral savage mercenaries! Take a stand against the Gunners! Join the Minutemen!"
Daniel Rogers are you saying that Bethesda didn't finish their game?
No, that'd be crazy...
How dare you spout baseless accusations about them...
They obviously made a great game, not at all unfinished or lacking in a decent ending...
No...
You're crazy...
( *SARCASM* )
The thing is, gunners are just glorified mercenaries. Raiders kill for fun and loot, when gunners only kill when directed by a high buyer.
And that brings a good question. Who has the caps to be hiring the Gunners and why?
I love that idea, for me to make things fun after i finish the main quests. i want the minuteman to run the commonwealth so ill use the endless warfare mod and spawn groups of gunners just to make things fun and id love for some unknown faction pullling the strings like the resurgent enclave
Be *really* careful about leaving Power Armour around with fusion cores in, as enemies can *also* choose to loot it and use in their attack. I had this happen twice in gunner attacks, where a stealthy leader of the gunners bypassed my outer defenses and climbed into really good power armour, wreaking havoc on my settlers.
Really late comment, but...
Any time a PA character of mine is getting out of their armor for longer than ten seconds, I'm taking out the fusion core with me. Like one would their car keys.
@@ReallyKeepingFictional fortunately, you can just tell the settlers to get out of the power armor.
@@mattlewandowski73
Yeah, but if the place iw big enough, finding them is a chore and sometimes they leave it in unfortunate places.
I actually have a safe room for power armor that can only be accessed using certain methods and the place is FILLED with very powerful turrets
My fusion cores stay about my person at all times. I already have enough trouble with Mirelurk hunters, Deathclaws and Behemoths. 😂
Settlers only loot weapons from containers if they have NO weapon. If they have a weapon they will keep what they have forever, even if it is inferior. They will loot weapons (and ammo) that drop from slain attackers, however, if those weapons are better (just like your followers sometimes will). Dozens of attacks with a workbench full of every weapon I loot and they have never taken them over their base Pipe Pistols.
They do not loot armor.
Followers, settlers, and enemies will all leap into Power Armor if it has a Fusion Core in it.
Since settlers consume ammo on the same rules as enemies (meaning they consume nukes and missiles normally, but everything else is endless), the 1 round Barney Fife treatment is sufficient. It also means rate of consumption and cost of ammo does not affect them like it does in your calculation (making Miniguns, Gatlings, Assault and Combat Rifles, and Plasma weapons all good choices). Also, they have no perks, so it is sometimes hard to tell which kind of weapon is best for them because your data is biased towards your perk choices.
Avoid giving the AoE weapons - they will kill themselves and others.
Settlers are scripted to run to enemies and engage with them at a range based upon their weapon assignment, so giving them rifles instead of pistols keeps them further from the fray.
Settlers also have a "sit down" script to protect them. After a small amount of damage they sit down and enemies stop targeting them. They are not immortal (immortals also have a sit down script), but at that point won't be attacked further. Stray fire and AoE damage, however, can still lead to them being killed. This is why you avoid those sources with your settlers (friendly fire applies). Armor serves to reduce the damage they take, keeping them in the fight longer and making them more durable during their sit down time.
I find it is best to create a "uniform" for a settlement - a standard set of common gear, as that makes it easy to know who you have or have not equipped, know what they have, know who the new settlers are, etc. If you dump all your mundane gear into your homebase workshop you will quickly accumulate large quantities of things to equip setters with. When I have a "settlement set" (depends on the build what the max number is - usually between 21 for 11 Charisma to 30 for 20 Charisma based on the character) of an undergarment, matching armor set, and weapon, I will Strong Back fast travel it to a settlement that is either not yet equipped or in need of an upgrade, put it on everyone, and store any extra on site for future settlers.
They might've changed it. Settlers will take something better if it's there.
I found out the settlers were mortal when I accidentally decapitated Marcy Long with a mini-nuke during a Super Mutant attack at Nordhagen Beach.
Tenderfoot Prepper I’m pretty sure named NPCs do not sure the same invulnerability generic settlers have.

Trash can Carla stole my fully upgraded X-01 power armor when sanctuary got attacked while I was building a factory, then, all of a sudden I’m the bad guy for trying to pickpocket the fusion core out of the armor she stole from me. Everyone in Sanctuary became hostile.
Long story short, Sanctuary Hills is uninhabited once again
😂
if you wait for her to unequip at her market you can simply take it there.
You murdered your settlers over a fusion core? 😂
Ironically, putting miniguns on your sentries with ONE bullet makes them better than you are at defending more often than not...
I thought in fallout 4, npcs actually use ammo
Oh, sorry, didn't see the whole vid. Cant wait till they all my settlers have mini guns. Guess I've spent too much time trying to get companions to use ammo.
Only companions use ammo.
Also, missile launchers and fat mans ALWAYS consume ammo, regardless of who is using them.
dantesinfernal0 ty m8
Double gatling lasers are nice but I also gave Codsworth a Sentrybot Torso with Assaultron legs and Robobrain head. In addition to the gatlings he has twin shoulder mounted nuke launchers, a mesmatron attack and does damage to everything near him.
When I declared war on all raiders in Nuka World I just let Codsworth go Beast Mode on the entire population while I sat in my stealth field and admired his handiwork.
I just manually equip settlers as they appear... It's fun and you can just give them a kick ass weapon/armor. I guess it can be a pain if you had 100 settlers to equip all at once, but since I just do it right away, its doesn't build up.
same bro
same here, I like to personalize them according to job too, such as all my farmers wear farmhand outfits and carry fully upgraded double barrel shotguns lol
+RichyN25 I as well, and also color code my robots I build. Red paint for guards and yellow for workers. It was also amusing to dress all my settlers up in raider garb for my one "raider" character build.
I learned this the hard way. I was doing a power armor survival build and during a raid, one of my settlers stole ALL of my spare fusion cores to power his Gattling Laser (ALSO a stolen spare). And another guy wouldn't get out of my spare set of X-01 MKVI until I pickpocketed the fusion core. I didn't even realize they could do that at the time.
You could wait for them to sleep, they have to exit out of power armour to sleep. Also you could use trade dialog to get the remaining fusion cores back.
FYI Settlers won't pick up a weapon unless they have ammo for it. If you leave the ammo in the Workbench, the first settler to take a weapon will also take ALL the ammo for that gun. The workaround is to give each of your settlers one of each ammo for the weapons you put in the workshop.
Thank you for this. I wish I'd have known this earlier, it would have saved me countless hours ringing the town bell and sorting through everyones inventories one by one.
When creating the batch file I'm assuming it would look something like this correct:

Soul Zt those harnesses are pretty effective in terms of protection
CodeIce I like the military fatigues, nice agi
Lemon Squeezey Me too, all my settlers looks like Pre-war soldiers , they are really cool
I did that too, and that's how starlight drive-in became a military base
@@metalheart80s I use Sanctuary as my main base and store my Normal power armor there, but I use the Rocket Red as a forwarding outpost. I store my stolen Raider armor there.
The stuff you equip them with doesnt help if you dont show up? But if I show up I might as well kill the attackers myself, so the entire exercise seems pointless. The functionality of the settlement system, especially the attack and defense is really half-baked
True, you have to be present, but it truly is a great feeling when you walk to the settlement under attack from a nearby map marker and your settlement is defended when you never fire a shot.
I didn't realize until looting the bodies that one of raiders in the big pile of gibs wore power armor.
I give them a combat knife, just to be sure they dont turn against me.
I used to just give my settlers gatling lasers and laser rifles then see them later with a pipe pistol
well you know what they say, you can lead a horse to water but you cant make the horse drink.
Mac & Cheese you need to give them some ammo I also did the same like you later raiders attack they take pipe weapons out so I gave them ammo and pis them off and they attack me with the gatling laser
Jonathan Black It’s funny because the AI of npcs in general are comparable to horses
Where can you find Gatling lasers? I wanna give one to curie but I don’t have a spare
It's not enough to just give them the weapons, you need to make sure they're marked as equipped

Dude your content is awesome and it feels like you know every mechanic of the game and plan accordingly. Lol keep up the work.
I am a big fan of the combat rifle, it´s a great compromise of damage, range and accuracy as well as ammo efficiency.
Laser rifles are good too, but i tend to stay away from rapid fire stuff and shotguns due to their inherent inaccuracy.
Explosive weapons are tempting, but i did not hand them out as of now.
I equip my settlers with whatever armor I can, give each a good weapon and ammunition, a grenade of some type, a hand to hand weapon and a stimpak.
As I get better equipment I upgrade them.
My settlements look more like armored camps than settlements. Which in my opinion is what they should be like to withstand the perils of the wasteland.
@@CaptCook999 You take good care of your settlers, General o7

Very helpful thank you. Stumbled upon this by accident, was looking for the mechanics on how provisioners know/decide what to trade between settlers. Though I'm going to check out the rest of your vids because this one was a pleasant surprise and very informative. Again thank you for taking the time to create and share this vid.
i enjoyed your hilarious Warcraft videos back in the day and I'm glad I found your posts on the Fallout 4 settlement reddits. i rediscovered you awhile back and enjoy every video. keep em up!
Hey Ox
I just want to thank you for your great videos! I'm new to the fallout world and I'm playing on ps4. But still i got so many tips and help or inspiration from your videos. Thank for your great work! Keep going and have a nice day. Greetings from Germany :)
And there is actually a mod that allows to "lock" doors, and chests.
So just put all the stuff you don'T want your settlers to grab ina truck and lock it.
I always put stuff I don't want shared on the top floor of the house I built. I just remove the stairs so no one can get up there.
You don't need a mod. Just type "lock" in the console
Wow, thank you for telling us about how it works with settlers and ammo.
Man, you give great tips! I had no idea about the weapons in the workbench. Thanks, Oxhorn!
Everyone gets a plasma flamer. Settlements now look like slimer from ghost busters.
When i'm going around the commonwealth i will find weapons like Miniguns(Ashmaker) or Gauss rifles(Stalkers Gauss rifle) i will usually give them to my settlers instead of selling them . This is very useful because they settlers will have some serious firepower to back up your settlements. Also do the same with armor. I usually supply them with Heavy combat armor or regular combat armor. :)
Hi Oxhorn, I really enjoy your videos and appreciate the effort you put into them. I watched your video on batch files recently and am using it to equip my settlers in different outfits according to their job. I modified your sample bat file and it works perfectly. I've also created several other bat files for stuff I do via console to speed the process. I find it's more accurate because I don't mistype commands, numbers or miss some simple format requirement. They work the same every time and are much quicker. I did have an issue with named settlers though. I just started a new play through and used bat files to equip Marcy and Jun Long, Mamma Murphy and Sturges in Sanctuary. When I returned to Sanctuary after The First Step quest, they all had their original outfits on. When I traded with them, everything I gave them was still in their inventory, but not equipped. When I use "T" for them to equip the items I provided, they do so, until I leave and return. This hasn't happened with unnamed settlers yet. Any suggestions?
Thank you for this. I use BAT files but I did not know about this easy way to equip settlers.
...Or you could open the ''trade'' dialog with any of them and actually give them better gear...seems easier to me!
It's not.
*****
I rather have direct control over the gear of my security forces so what i do is collect all those drops to a single location (my DC House) and recycle the best mods and parts to use on the fabrication of a standard issue armor sets and the best pimped weapons possible, selling or scrapping the leftovers for caps and mats. Each time i see a settlement with a handfull of new people idleing i already have the stuffs to make them security officers for the grabs at home, case the need arises.
The medium quality weapons are then delivered to the farming brigads, shopkeepers and scrapper personal (those are usually safe inside town walls so they dont get to see much figthing anyways).
Wall guards get a sniper rifle and a 10mm handgun - sturdy leather armors; Street patrols get a laser rifle and a .44 - Sturdy combat armors, Supply runners get a heavy MG,some grenades and a .38 pistol - Synth armor (if avaliable), Farmers get whatever type of handgun avaliable at the time. Everyone gets a simple backup melee weapon like a machete or a sword or even a knife (just in case they run out of bullets in a hot moment).
After the new guards are recruted and geared up you can them assign them to whatever settlement needs backup most.
This makes it really easy to control the raccio of security/work force balance on a individual bases without the need to even go and visit any settlement personally.
Long distance micro-management, you may call it...
But hei, that ''lazy'' mode of doing it, that you talk about in your video also seems to have its merits, so rock on it =P
Can you expand on why it's not easier? Is it just having to track down your settlers?
Gen. Zod
Not even that is needed Zod. If you place a bell pole on the center of the town and ring it once, most of the settlers will flock around you at the same time, helping you figure out who needs gear or not without a single step spend. (If you ''farm'' the gunners fraction for gear you can make all your security personal dress militar fatigues along with the armor set for easy recognition).
Oxhorn is all about the ''efficiency'' and ''well calculated'' settlements and not a single bit about ''play for fun'' or ''enjoy', i beliave... =P'
I forgot about the bell pole! The settlers sure take their sweet time getting there! Lol!
They won’t be able to use a specific weapon unless they have ammo for that weapon, so you have to make sure they have the calibers you have.
Awesome stuff! On the console, I set aside regular leather armor and short combat rifles because they spawn constantly. The only editions that I make are to increase the magazine size and make them automatic. Since the settlers all have pretty much the same SPECIAL stats, I figured that I would just use them to get as many bullets flying as modestly possible. They also look like a pretty legit militia.
Awesome stuff! Thanks for all the helpful information in this video and the last one. Very interesting how the game goes about attacks on settlements.
Also about walls around settlements, I put walls up because in my Fallout it makes sense, sadly it is true it doesn't add to if the settlement wins or loses. I just like seeing fortifications.
It does work to funnel enemies in active combat, however, or to give your turrets more time to work before your settlers run out there to their deaths.
+Oakspar Oakspar Very true.
"As you get higher level and face tougher and tougher enemies"
You mean easier and easier surely. This game has a massive difficulty falloff.
For those of you who store fusion cores in settlements Settlers will loot the containers storing them and then enter the nearest Power Armor.
Be careful, folks.
I used to hate the settlement system in F4 but now that I've watched most if not all your videos I love it now thanks for the great content Oxhorn
Thank you very much for this video, lots of things very useful to prepare settlements (and settlers). Great :)

Thanks for the bat template, Oxhorn! That's going to come in extra handy, I think,
This is really useful information. I'm going to try it this weekend!
Hey guys, I'm just wondering if there are any mods out there, that make settlers to act more like every day ordinary people, like they sit down for a drink, light a cigarette etc. Stuff that make settlements more immersive. Thanks for your answers.
Take a look at the Better Settlers mod on Nexusmods maybe that is something like what you are looking for.... www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/7010/?
If you don't have access to mods, or don't want mods, have settlers unemployed in your settlement. Any unemployed settlers will wander around, interact with objects, work benches and they will also eat/ drink (in some instances Smoke) and chill. Hope that helps.
with our end one the workshop dlcs there is a quiting time bell that makes all your settlers sit down and just chill instead of doing whatever tasks they are assigned to. and once you turn it off they go back to work. (think it was wasteland workshop dlc)
Usually if you have a Bar installed, or Restaurant, they will go and have a meal and drink after work. Don't forget to make some benches for them to sit down at and supply tables if you have enough room.
+Lowrona That's what I do,in fact just yesterday I left 2 unemployed because the hangout spot looked dull & empty. I take hours upon hours building this crap just for no one to use😢
it's a shame really.
Hey, i have a problem when i set them the Weapons and leave the Settlement they will switch to default outfit. Any ideas?
Your videos are very helpful! Thank you for making them!!
Hey dude, just wanna start out by saying that ive recently just subscribed to you. I'm a huge fan of the whole Fallout series and Fallout 4 has become my most favorite game to play. love all the vids u have been doing on this game.! they've been very helpful.
ok so back to this video now :p
I myself when defending my settlement I have been manually equipping my settlers who are set as gaurds with weapons and armor from attacks as u had said to do. For the rest of my settlers I just did what you talked about and dumped weapons from attacks into the workshop. Ive also dumped armour but will agree with you on that the settlers don't equip any amour. As well in certain towns I have excess power 💪 armour and I DID leave the fusion cores in them but I found that when I got attacked the enemy's would get into those armours and then once u killed them u lost those power 💪 armour frames so I stopped leaving cores in those suits :p
Thanks for the suggestion for the bat file. That does seem like a neat idea!
Keep up the great work dude! ive become a big fan of u and ur vids!
Cheers 🍻 👍

Does the workshop equipping work for legendary items? My workshop is full of them, never seen a settler equip one in about five hundred hours.
Yes it does, they choose the best weapon when arming themselves, but they do not take into consideration legendary effects (they are just as likely to loot a legendary as a non legendary)
Oxhorn I want to know how to protect my stuff from settlers. I built a house with a keycard access door, the settler still teleport in to my house. My settlers at castle go in my room to get my weapons
Hope this helps, But what i do is Spawn a create or Draw or cubbord and place my untouchables in there. They seem to only take from the main Workshop inventory and not custom creates. Place your unshareables there.
Put a chest on a raised platform that you can only get to by jumping. NPC pathing will prevent them from getting to the chest.
I'm guna use this thank you for the format of the bat file!
Ooo this gives me ideas to put weapon toolboxes in each of my settlements as like a settler armory!
Your settlement has a lot of women =3
Imari Kurumi its a breeder settlement.
................
I get mostly women settlers too. They outnumber the men 4 to 1 on average.
I think he does it on purpose, but I've also heard that, for some reason, female settlers seem to spawn a lot more than their male counterparts...
It's just me but most of your enemy is male. That could be the explanation.
Ive never seen the settlers taking weapons from the Workbench, Im pretty sure its off limits for them.
I do see them looting weapons during raids from attackers, even legendaries!
You are correct.
They WILL take from the workbench. I've caught my settlers with Gatling laser's, Last Minute, Le Fusil and more.
Are you sure its not because of a mod?
zzzorg Yeah. I play on PS4 so no mods. Building a safe and putting your important stuff in there apparently combats this.

how do you keep your settlers happy? i've tried everything but the happiness meter still dropping. any tips?
proper resources per settler
But things like shops and decorations help boost happiness
+DoopZee what do you mean by proper settler resources? like equipping them with good weapons, stimpaks and armor? i have 30+(mod) settlers at the moment and some of them are robots
Food and water made "in house" at that settlement.
Sufficient defense.
Beds with something over them (roofs, floors, etc) - type doesn't matter
Particular shops, pets, and constructed items (mainly from Vault Tec Workshop) give bonuses divided among settlers
No robots (as they are fixed at 50 and average with everyone else).
+Oakspar Oakspar i have made 3 buildings with sufficient everything, beds, shops, deco etc. my defense is 500+ coz i made my sanctuary a central base(i put most of my settlers there so it feels more alive). them robots are for guarding the borders and i made few for medic assistance(regeneration field). its a vast fortress but it lacks happiness which troubles me a lot. anyways, i'll try to make more shops for them. thabks for your tips guys
Do not leave powerarmor lying around Sanctuary! Trashcan Carla stole a full set of fully maxed out T-45 armor from me months ago. She's still walking around in it every time I see her. F#*&ing thief!
I know it's been a year since you posted this comment, but I'm replying in case this happens to anyone else.
If one of the wandering merchants puts on your power armor, head to bunker hill. There merchants show up there one at a time and sell you their wares at a stall. If they stole your power armor, they get out of the armor in order to man the stall, leaving it free for you to reclaim. Note that this does not apply to the bodyguards, so if those fucks steal your power armor you gotta do the usual ways to steal power armor from npcs to reclaim it.
Never thought of this. Surprisingly my new Sanctuary base looks very similar to yours. Though I did sadly scrap the elm tree in the middle of the settlement and replaced it with a market.
This is so good. Can not wait to try it out.
Dont want to be rude. But i have to ask. Would you want to compose a modpack or something for Fallout 4?
You know the essentials to spice up the game.
I have a document linked to in this video's description that has all my mods listed.
I like using the trade menu (Have a PS4). I have given all of my settlers in all of my settlements combat armor and better weapons and ammo. I had a huge surplus of .38 ammo (20,000+ rounds) and like 100 combat rifles. I upgraded those combat rifles to .38 receivers and used a .38 combat rifle as my primary settlement defense weapon. Plus, I got rid of half of my .38 ammo by giving each settler 200 rounds.Granted they aren't as powerful as a .45 combat rifle, but with a few other upgrades, they are far superior to the pipe pistols and shotguns they spawn with. It is tedious at first, but I was able to make several rounds through my settlements, make upgrades and collect caps. Turned out to be a fun task.
Also, at least on the PS4, I have noticed the ammo I give settlers steadily goes down, and when it runs out, they go back to their pipe pistols and shotguns. But it took months of real time for the ammo to deplete.
Josh Schake hey so I can just drop it in their inventory during trade? Also do I have to give a whole bunch of inventory or will one bullet do it?
Damn that’s actually genius, I just took the pipe pistols and fully upgraded them lmao.
i think that may be a PC only function, where your settlers grab gear from containers. i know on xbox1 they will cling to those crappy pipe pistols unless i give them better gear and 1 round of ammo. as i have noticed, 1 round of ammo for a particular weapon, a melee, and a single grenade is sufficient armament.
as for armor, hrm still working on that, it doesnt seem to matter what armor they have on, they just knocked on their arses and sit there til the fight is over. maybe the armor will keep them on their feet a bit longer. but i doubt it, as it was said by someone in a comment, when i did equip a settler or companion with PA, they get it smashed really fast.
but thanks for the videos Ox, love catching up on fallout4 stuff with your vids!
Thank you ox for making this video
Great so since I forced my level to level 1000, my enemies would be holding big boys and maxed power armor
Also my settlers would be taking all my good gear that I'm storing in the workbench
Someone had no idea you can trade with settlers and equip items on them...
TheRaellz * facepalm *
+TheRaellz You obviously.
***** Im being sarcastic. You really are stupid.
***** What ever helps your idiot brain get some sleep.
***** Weak cause it ain't.
The settlers are also equipping the special t-shirts and vault uniforms if you let them in boxes or in the working benches.
Damn good video. I kept watching and got my ammo answer. I love the idea of giving them one of every type of ammo
Where do they get ammo for weapons they pull out of the workbench? Do you need to leave ammo in the workbench as well?
This is precisely what I'm wondering. The reason I like equipping my settlers manually is so I can give them 1 round of ammo which for them is unlimited. Plus I arm them based on their job and which settlement they're at, because I like to be organized.
Ballistic weave clothing is way better
jamesworkshop i fucked up the railroad so im screwed
jamesworkshop I have all my guys in armored clothing now they look way better anyway
Why not combine both??
I did not know that they pulled from workbench inventory! Plus, thanks for the batch file sample. I guess you used something like that to equip the Minuteman Castle build.
So I did some poking around on the wiki and found a solution to your specific armor problem for your bat file in the video.. This is what I am using for my Vault 88 residents, so they get a Vault 88 suit instead of a Marine Wetsuit. I am including a copy of the bat file as well as the links to Armor and Weapon mod Equip IDs as well. What needs to happen is first the settler gets the item equipped with a EQUIPITEM command (EX; equipitem 0011d3c3 ;random Combat Armor Chest Piece). Then you needs to call a scripting function AFTER the item is equipped. Tell it what piece to modify then what mod to add (EX: cf "ObjectReference.AttachModToInventoryItem" 0011d3c3 00184bf0 will select the random Combat Armor chest piece and apply the Heavy mod to it) It also works with weapons. I have enjoyed your build videos and hope this makes your virtual life easier.
Thanks,
Kohiisan aka Rich

You have the best fallout videos on RUclips.
Will attackers steal your suits of power armor??
Nope
@Chris Sanderson - they have the ability to do this, be very careful when arming your settlers with power armor. i like to keep a few power armors up on the walls next to the defenders. I usally give Minutemen T-45 power armor to Farmers and Atom cats t-60b to my defenders, i also give raider power armor to trash can carla and jun and marcy long, you should visit my sanctuary every one gots power armor, i usally visit Atom cats garage like once a game week and buy more power armor frames. you can also buy power armor frames at that one mexican dudes weapon shop in Diamond city. if you run out of money just use the console command to get more cash money or sel water or something. sometimes i noticed that when i get attacked not every one mobilizes. so sometimes i use enemy spawn console commands i found from this site to make them more tougher so i can se a larger battle. steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=560634546
When i was playing though Atom cats garage is where i noticed that the attackers first stole power armor , this was where i noticed they have the ability.
When i armed the settlers of Drumlin Diner with Power armor i noticed that Wolfgang, and trudy and all of them could just that stuff as well but, just remember to keep the power armor inside of the drumlin right next to the counter where trudy or wolfgang sell there wears, dont leave your power armor out in the open and dont leave it next to Trashcan carla that lady naver gives power armor back. so if you leave any power armor out just make sure its some trashy raider power armor you realy dont care about other wise its really a "free for all "on that stuff.
as I have been playing (xbox1) i have always removed the cores, and no one gets into my armors. i have 22 set up around my castle walls and they just collect dust, i have slowly been spreading them around to my other settlements but still have a lot in one location.
and companions do not use up cores and will use the PA fine without a core in it.
Cole Maynard Wrong, they will
Yes.
wait you telling me i dont barter one by one to all settler, god thx its exhausting barter to all settler
Power Armor take out fusion cores because the enemy can also climb in and use it against you. Happened with my raider power armor at the Castle. Also love the perks that give you screws and other rarer items when junking weapons and Armor.
best damn BAT file template ive ever had. Thanks !
whats the point anyway, settlers can't die by npcs
im new to this game, i apologise for my ignorance.
Being new to a game is never a crime. Being afraid to ask questions just keeps you from having fun!
Not usually die, but the raiders will roll through, steal your stuff and trash your place.
bull. I had all but 1 ghoul at the slog die because raiders In power armor came out of nowhere and fucked them up. just when I started building the settlement and adding defences. 1 fucking ghoul left lol. but people keep asking if I've seen the farm ran by ghouls.. now it's just a legend.
at the slog i did the quest for the ghoul in the workshop that wanted the giddyup gear.
not long after i finished that quest the slog was attacked and he was killed in the attack.
i was happy i got the quest done before he was killed though.
One of the female ghouls was killed when i first flubbed three slog in the first attack
Why do you use traditional Soviet music in your video
Would be better to play it in a video of "Red Dead"!
Well, personally I have a building set aside that I treat as my base in every settlement, it's usually small and utilitarian in design, but always includes a powered warehouse door, and an alarm bell inside, with which I summon my settlers. I then close the powered door, and take the elevator I place in each of these up to the top floor (usually 3 floor elevator), which is basically a sniper nest for me. On some rare occasions, a settlement may require me to place some turrets to cover blind spots. This also gives me an idea which way enemies are coming from, or are located.
Your videos are so good Oxhorn, they explain so much so well. I wasted time building walls, then on 1st attack they spawned inside and I got extremely angry because the walls didn't work. Then I calmed down when I realized this is a Bethesda game, not SSI. Fuck the walls, build tall structures that fit everything inside and ring them with turrets.
As of 2020, apparently you can buy PA frames and FC's in Diamond City, so I'm thinking to fit all my settlers in PA eventually. Or replace them with robots, but that kinda defeats the purpose of "save humanity" and such.
Does equipping settler with eyeglasses/goggles actually help their perception or am I wasting time setting them all up? Also if I set them up with drugs will they use them?
I assume they use the same mechanic as companions. But I do not know how they work. 8(
They will use Stimpaks when injured I believe.
Just trying to have them shoot better from farther to stay out of the missles range and back blasts.
As soon as I could, I set out to equip all of my settlers with full sets of blackend leather armour over vaultec j-suits and I also provided either sunglasses or welder goggles and they all get their own sawnoff shot gun with a single round or two of 12guage. I differentiate my farmers from my scavvers by giving the farmers with brimmed hats. fedoras and sunglasses by preference...well.. because they're farmers of course. whereas my scavvers would get helmets, hard hats at least and get welder's goggles... they use welders and grinders etc.. occ health and safety is important... even after the World's gone t'hell. Even the provisioners get the treatment.. with the coloured leather armour and the j-suits but the provies get the more AR type weapons. they get brimmed hats aswell... y'simply cant go walkin' the wastelands without your lucky travellin' hat!
My settlements aren't that big and I've got five settlements and six people per settlement..(except my main base) so equiping them isn't that expensive..I guess that'll change if and when they grow but for now my people dress to impress.. I'm entertaining the idea of colour-coding my people depending on what they do and where they live.. and I only take on another settlement when I've plenty of resources to do it right.. so whilst I do help him out from time to time Dear ol Garvey sometimes had to wait until Im good an bloody ready!
I hate auto-correct!
I have the "Modern Firearms" mods so I arm everybody and their brother with M4's, Kriss's, or MK-16/17's set for semi-auto and give them about 500 rounds each. Yes, I cheat.
This is a great channel for Fallout 4 content. 👍
wow very informative, will definitely improve my gameplay. thanks for the video!
Sorry to say but there's lots of bad information here.
For one, if you equip weapons to your settlers they will be "Locked" to that settler, which as far as I know stops them from looting your weapons, and two, you can't _order_ people into Power Armor, and they will leave the armor either on their own or when you talk to them if they do get themselves a set.
Also, really - don't advocate cheating as a "normal" way of playing the game. What's the point of making some kind of guide if you're just gonna tell people to cheat?
Welcome to a Bethesda made game.
Half the shit needs to be fixed/overridden using mods or console commands.
Get used to it.
I've played half a dozen playthroughs (Over 800 hours) and haven't opened the console once (Outside of when I'm screwing around or testing weapon values) nor have I used a single mod
Haven't got stuck, haven't had to reload because of a glitch, and haven't lost anything due to one either.
But, sure, I need console and mods to "fix half the shit"
IronSquid501 well then good for you.
some people's games play out differently. dont be an ass and complain about how he plays just because you dont like it.
Personally, my most common console use is to get Brahmin out of buildings, because of Bethesda pathing issues. First time I actually found a console command it was to get a provisioner's Brahmin off my roof in Sanctuary. Granted, nothing about the game really REQUIRES that I move that Brahmin off my roof, but...I got tired of seeing a cow standing on my house every time I visited.
Should really put in the name of the video that this is using a cheat, and no rationalizing that.
Vox Knit except a lot of the video was about the legitimate way of arming them with weapons. Only part of it was using the .bat file, and he explained how to do it without the .bat file.
Not like it was clickbait, it just had a few options to get the job done and one of them happened to be a "cheat".
I’ll use my ‘Castle’ as an example of my go-to strategy, which I’ve refined through multiple playthroughs. I use mods, of course, but as far as the Minutemen go, the mods only enhance them as a military-oriented faction. All of the Minutemen automatically wear ‘Army Fatigues’ with an ‘Army Helmet.’ They come standard with a ‘Laser Rifle,’ and the ones w/ Power Armor carry ‘Gatling Lasers.’ Anyway, at ‘The Castle,’ I always place a lot of turrets and defensive positions for settlers & minutemen to stand watch at. I build them wherever I deem necessary, and assign multiple people to them, which means I have a constant security detail roving around the fortress. Which really adds to the immersion of the environment.
I put ‘Military Fatigues’ on all of the settlers at ‘The Castle,’ to add to the theme of the location, and as a way of discerning Minutemen from settlers.
I issue every settler a ‘Combat Rifle,’ ‘Assault Rifle’ (primarily to be a de-facto machine gunner), ‘Sniper Rifle,’ or a variant of a ‘Laser Rifle’ to give them the edge in a firefight, and with multiple people covering an area with overwhelming firepower, that’s how I neutralize any threats to the castle. In short, my ‘Castle’ is very militarized, and heavily guarded.
This reminded me. There was one time when I was working on something at Red Rocket, and an attack started. It took my brain a moment to process that I was being attacked, but while I was confused my Red Rocket/Sanctuary provisioner ran into my garage and grabbed a super sledge out of my workshop. That was when I found out that they could take things out of containers, but until now I was still slightly confused about it.
Oxhorn! I love your videos and literally watch them every day! I have a couple of questions I feel you would be able to answer. I’ve heard you say you read all of your comments too so I figured you would be best to ask. First I want to ask if equipping settlers with ballistic weave items will help them survive attacks or if it helps provisioners or companions in any way. In my limited testing V.A.T.S. Would suggest that it does not, to my dismay. Secondly... this one is a little more far fetched, I am looking for information on all of the power armors in the vanilla game, in all the DLC expansions as well as in the Creation Club. I would like to get the best power armors in the game (that won’t cause me to lose my achievements) with various effects, stats and abilities... such as in one video you said the Horse Power Armor runs and jumps better. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so very much for all you have done for the fallout community, what you do is so professionally executed, it’s like the collegiate level of game exploration and I am blown away by your ability to create content and then portray it in a way that is fun and informative! Thanks again!
Thanks again for the inspiring information good sir. I will be equipping all settlers with Vault 88 gear and when Nuka World comes out my Raider gang shall be known as, you guessed it, The Crazy 88's!
Thanks for this video!!!!! I was doing it the hard hard way one at a time and giving each settler a good stock of my ammo 😦
I tend to apply mods on weapons for all settlers. An example, when I get a .45 Combat Rifle, I tend to maximize everything on it like so:
1.Powerful automatic receiver
2.Long ported barrel
3.Recoil compensating stock
4.Large quick eject magazine
5.Long night vision scope
6.Muzzle brake
And give them ONE piece of .45-ammo, as that's all they need to continually keep using their guns.
For some settlers I also add armored versions of clothing's (and maybe even armoring over their clothes), usually those with 'Clean' in the description. Ballistic weave MK5, I think it is called. And usually settlements tend to be able to defend themselves, but sometimes they loose as I'm mostly doing stuff in Nuka World, or other places (Far Harbor).
awesome vid that's one thing I like about fallout universe your always learning , when it comes to armour as I play on ps4 I it best to manually equip them ( and yes wee spell armour differently in the u of k)
I normally give my settlers a full suit of Combat armor and a laser gun sometimes plasma and I also have small open boxes with Power Armor, I duplicate it to get top of the line X01
Il try to be brief.
When first setting up a settlement. Pick 2 settlers and equip them manually with the heaviest weapons and armor you have (include at least one plasma or cryo grenade for maximum profit) Build two scavenging stations near enemy spawn points and assign your 2 settlers to scavenging. When your settlement is big enough to support a supply line you pick the heavier of the two scavvers and promote to provisioner and the other to guard. Your one guard can hold 3 posts, your provisioner is basically an immortal heavy sentinel and your guard is actually effective, then you promote 2 farmers to heavy scavvers and pretty much everything else sorts itself out when you just store weapons and armor in workbenches and containers.
Unemployed > Farmer> heavy scavver> guard> provisioner
Is the promotion tree
Hey. LOVED this video... Quick question, is there a video or a quick way to explain how to give rapidly one bullet of each kind to a settler?
Thanks! Great Video This helped a lot.
