Great job, Dad! I think I’m out of a job with such a thorough comparison. Also big props to my Mom for being a great camera operator. Hope you guys enjoy this deep dive comparison between the base vs the maxed out RWD ID.4. Who wants more videos with my Dad??
Definitely! Great to get perceptions from other age groups and just those that aren’t as heavily into the EV world as you are, because that is who are generally buying these. Really appreciated it when he did the “Thank you EA for the electricity!”, ha, seems like a good guy that enjoys life, appreciate having people like him around.
Thanks Kyle for video. I just wish ELECTROFY AMERICA and ELECTROFY CANADA would build more charging stations everywhere as I had to call EA to find charging stations in Canada and we only have 2 Electrofy Canada stations in Toronto ,Canada's largest city of 5 million people
3:30 EA's 10 minute grace period means please move your car so others can use your spot. After 10 minutes, you will be charged a parking fee, even if you are on the free charging plan.
Decided to get an ID.4 after driving model 3, model Y, Ioniq 5, Kona EV and a used model S. Then had to decide between Pro and Pro S. This video helped me decide to get the Pro S, non gradient. Thank you. Very helpful.
Finally! A true detailed comparison from the real owner. Thanks. I ordered mine as an AWD Pro. Almost all "extras" on Pro S are not beneficial for us living in the south. Leather seat with no ventilation plus a black glass roof = a big greenhouse and butt burner that is prone to damage for hails or hurricanes. With the $6k extra, S still doesn't have HUD, 360 cameras, or seat ventilation. So other than the memory seats, power liftgate, and headlight, there's really nothing worth the upgrade.
Got my 2022 VW Pro 82kwt . There is no end to all these goodies but in the end of the day you will need to pay like 10,000 after tax for all this. As a second car RWD Pro is good enough under $50k after tax
You did a great presentation Dad! Mom handled the camera really professionally. Love Kyle! I was influenced by him and bought the ID.4 and have been taking great road trips.

Grace period means that’s the time you have left until EA starts charging your account “idle time”. If left after the grace period, there is a small fee per min I believe. This encourages ppl to leave the station open foe other users. I think it’s fair. Great vid btw! I love my ProS😍 PS. I really thought I wanted a Y until I saw the ID4 then Kyle’s video. I already knew I wanted a VW. I’m loving mine even more so now when I saw your vid and I know I made the right decision not buying a Y and going for the ProS. Btw, when leasing you get both the fed credit upfront and in CA the state credit as well. No money down for me, zero interest. No brainer. Just wanted to take the time to thank you for this video. Watched the whole thing and I am not in the market right now. Did a great job and looked comfortable doing it.
Very good review. Cemented my decision to go with the Pro after watching Kyle do his thing. 4 months later and still no regrets. As we live in Florida the glass roof was never something we wanted, even with the cover.
I took a Pro S out tonight for a test drive, I really wasn't expecting much, it was just on the list of cars to try. Does it have the performance of say a Model 3, nope, the big display of the Tesla, nope, did my back scream after getting out of the Pro S, nope, did I order a Pro S after watching this video, yes. For me it was a far more comfortable drive than the Tesla, also, I get mine in 2 months, according to the Tesla site made as I want it I can get a Model 3 next October....11 months. Anyways, thank you for taking the time to put this together, it's exactly what I was looking for in making my final choice.

First, thank you Kyle - your ID.4 reviews convinced me to trade in my top spec 2yr old Avalon for the ID.4 - I’m very happy with the VW. In NJ, the state incentive is $5000 for the Pro, $2000 for the Pro S (the incentive goes down if the msrp is between $45k-$55k). So for me, the difference between the two choices was a $9000 swing! That made it a no-brainer for me, I picked the Pro. Also, I contemplated waiting for the Pro AWD, but was worried the NJ state incentives would run out before the AWD became available. They indeed did run out - they paid out on the FY2022 EV incentive program in mid Sept. They are lobbying to add additional funding.
That was great! Thanks for mentioning about the lack of full stop/go active cruise control. I've watched a dozen ID4 reviews and you're the first to mention such an important function for a commuter like me
If you are in stop and go traffic and you have cruise control on, this is the only time the car will come to a complete stop on its own. If you are stopped for a VERY short amount of time (something like 3-5 seconds) the car will start again on its own when traffic starts moving. If the car is stopped for any longer than that, you will have to lightly tap the accelerator to get the car going again in cruise mode.
Best video i've seen comparing both models. I'm about to buy one this week here in Germany, and this helped me a lot. Super detailed information. thanks!
Thanks for the review , great spin Kyle bringing Dad in for the review, kudos on the job, well done, I think he has passed on some great traits:)! This is my 2nd vehicle choice if I don't go w my first choice being RWD Ioniq 5 long range. Great informative review, ID.4 has started to arrive here in Vangroovy BC Canada w the first allocation of units being the Pro S all sold out, next 95 slated for a late Feb delivery. Enjoyed the video
I didn't even consider the Pro when I ordered my ID.4. I wanted the better headlights, 20" wheels and illuminated grille emblem; wife wanted the red color. Our RWD Pro S w/gradient arrives first two weeks of January and we're super excited to leave ICE vehicles behind. Great review!!
One of the best and most thorough comparisons that I have seen. I have the First Edition in the same color choices as yours. The 3 free years of EA is nothing to sneeze at. I just went on a 3000 mile trip through the Rockies and Southwest and that saved a pretty penny on fuel. As far as the Voice, I call her Darling normally or Sweetheart when I think that she is nagging a bit.
This video really made my day!! Great job! 😎Thanks Kyle's Dad for the update info on the retro fit pause /play I'll be getting those for my ID.4 AWD next year.🤩
I enjoyed the "upbeat" comparison of the two, two-wheel drive versions of the ID.4. Like father like son -- that baton has been successfully passed -- kudos ! ☺
I think that grace period means you have to unplug before you got charged for "idling" with plugged in and not charging. You can still get charged for idling although no charge for charging. That's probably designed so no one leave their cars plugged after finish charging and give others chance to charge.
Kyle’s dad (and mom)! Nice car, even nicer reviewers - well done. The only part that cracked me up was the last bit about the 12” infotainment screen. You: bugs and lag had been fixed from the 1st Edition ID.4 *tap* *tap* *tap* No response from screen 😂🤣
Hahah. I did see that. But thruthfully, it does work all the time for me cleanly. So weird that happened. It’s almost as if the little ID.4 was camera shy ☺️
Great review and comparison! I purchased the 2023 ID.4 ProS a week ago and quite frankly the difference in it and the available Pro AWD was only $3,000 for what the dealer offered and it was well worth the $3,000 for me. However, I would have been able to save up would have $8,000 by simply getting the Pro and I would have been perfectly fine with that. Accordingly, the only thing I wanted was the larger battery. Thus, the glass roof and the extra amenities I received are great benefits. But where I was in the market I wouldn't have been willing to pay for them but because of the limitations of the ID.4 in the market I had to take what I could get, and again for a $3,000 difference I'm glad I went with the Pro S and not the Pro. Thanks again and God bless.
950 miles? I do that in two days on my job. I ordered the AWD Pro S gradient. Hopefully it’s reliable. My wife has a Mach e which has better range. However, free charging tips the scales for me.
Really interesting comparison. Buying ours in Europe the specs and options are a little bit different. My wife bought the Pro as a company car, and we speced with packages that we thought was important for us. I realize watching this video that the only thing we really miss when I watch your video is the IQ-light, and maybe (just maybe) the massage seats. We didn't want the glass roof, or the 20" wheels. So what we got was maybe what you in the US would call a Pro S light... 😀 I really agree that that 12" display is really nice (and was included in our package). I also like the head up display which is really clear and helpful and gives me a more relaxed driving. Plus! Plus! We got the Play and Pause gimmick on our Pro! 😉
That exit would be called a sweeper, not a hairpin. Cloverleaf exits are so much fun to take fast. I almost slid off of one a few years back when it was very cold and damp.
This was a great review. Very seriously considering buying an ID.4 and really appreciated how thorough, yet practical this review is. Great perspective on things more typical drivers would value. Have an order currently in production for a Mach-E GT PE your son's review played a role in influencing. If I can get swing a good deal on the ID.4, as well as current Ford Edge, I can apply both federal and state tax credits, with a modest down payment and own it outright. With that, we'll be 100% electric and we have enough solar capacity to power both house and EV's so fuel/energy savings very quickly recovers cost of solar system. We both work from home, so cars will charge directly from the panels. I'm really excited.
This was a great comparison. I’m happy with the reservation of a pro recently. It seems like a overall great vehicle and useable. My mini served its purpose as a training electric vehicle and it might be time to upgrade to the id4. Also perfectly said that it has to make financial sense. Loved all your vehicles so far keep up the good work.
Great video Dave, I can see where Kyle gets his good looks from. Love VW but have a Tesla M3 on order and if the Tesla MY comes out before the VW ID4 we may get that. Live in New Zealand so we tend to get the models a few years later than you guys in the USA.
Very well done Sir! You did an excellent job showing us the real life differences between the two models. You've sold me on the PRO-S due to the massaging seat features. My wife and I will check one of these out soon. They are indeed very hard to find.
Good review/discussion. Just ordered a Pro S Awd. Also from CT, living up in the Farmington River valley area. Guessing I won’t receive until August or later. Looking forward to receiving.
I just rented my first id4 going to sesame street in San Diego. I love your great info on the vehicle and the question is to buy me one next year . Thanks again
THIS WAS A SUPER FANTASTIC REVELATION OF THE DIFFERENCES, SIMILARITIES IN A MOST FANTASTIC MANNER SO THAT WE ALL COULD EASILY UNDERSTAND. THE BIGGER SCREEN ALLOWS YOU TO PUT PART OF HAND TO STEADY FINGER ON TOUCH SCREEN. THIS IS FOR ALL INFOTAINMENT SYSTEMS, FOR ALL VEHICLES. LOVED THIS REVIEW. BUT I HAVE ONE QUESTION; DO EITHER HAVE A FRUNK??? GOOD LOOKING SUV'S AND MOM'S SUPER SHOOTING REVEALS BOTH HAVE ALMOST SAME ROOF; JUST PAINTED DIFFERENT. ON WHITE, THE OVERLY PROMINANT COLOR OF MODERN SUV'S, WE CAN SEE THIS DIFFERENCE, BUT HOW WILL IT LOOK, REDISH, DARK BLUE OR BLACK! THE MASSAGING SEATS ARE A GOOD SELLING POINT, AS WELL AS THE LARGER SCREEN. MANY OF MY FELLOW SENIORS CAN'T SEE REAL GOOD, SO BETTER CLEARER GRAPHICS ARE A SAFETY BENIFIT.
With Traffic Assist, it should come to a complete stop. I live in Europe, and my ID.3 do a full stop and start, however if the stop is above (?) seconds, you must touch the accelerator pedal, end it resumes your settings.
Bec Since you purchased both cars, you are eligible for the $7500 tax refund and free charging at Electrify America on both cars. If you sell the Pro, the buyer does not get the tax refund or the free charging on a used car!
Yes to the $7,500 tax credits. And yes to free EA if I were to have kept both. The buyer of my used car will not be entitled to the free EA. I was wrong when I said this in the video… Thx for watching!
Great job Dave; you guys raised a great son, too! I switched my reservation from the ID.4 AWD back in April, in favor of the Q4 AWD (I hope I made the right decision?!)
Love the Q4. Might even get one! But wanted AWD for the winter. Kyle’s review of the Q4 has me super interested, but rumor has it we won’t see these in the US until early next year
This comparison is VERY helpful. Retired and this would be our first EV. We keep our cars a long time and would take occasional trips. Would probably go for the Pro S. No fog lights?
Great review, thanks! VW did a great job with the ID.4! Look forward to slightly larger batteries in the near future for longer range, is all I would like to see.
Wow! Very thorough and well done video comparison! Thanks! So, yeah, we just ordered our "Pro". I really really wanted the bigger screen, even asked for it if it was offered as an accessory ... VW told me no it wasn't. There was virtually nothing else in the Pro S that interested me, nothing certainly to justify that much extra cost. I would pay an extra grand or a little more for the bigger screen option, but no, not 5-6 thousand.
Dave, Great review and just at the right time. I live out in California and will be putting in an order for an ID4. I have a Tesla M3SR+ but will not be buying another Tesla until they improve car deliveries. After watching your review, I will be going with the Pro S. Was told the price is $3-5K over MSRP for a model on floor (not a choice as there are none in California) and when ordering one it will be MSRP with a 8 month to 1 year wait. What sold me on a Pro S is the roof and seats. Why can't Tesla put in handles and a shade for their roof? Instead they cut out mobile chargers. LOL
20:00 the Pro S has LED matrix headlights with adaptive projection and corner light where as the other one has just regular halogen lights. I personally love LED headlights on my ID.3
The difference in EPA mileage is probably due to (1) additional equipment on the Pro S (especially that glass roof) and (2) the 20" wheel/tire combination which is also wider than the Pro's tires, and therefore creates more friction on the road.
Great comparison lots of good details. Think I would get the pro and if I was going to spend extra money I would spend it on the all-wheel drive. I was particularly interested and happy to hear that the headlights in the pro throw light just as good as the projector does in the pro s. I live in the Southwest and UV input is massive in the summertime and so any car with a continuous glass roof is essentially a nightmare for us here, even though the VW does have a powered cover. Also leather seats have the same issue. Park outside for a while and that car is going to be 150° F and you will burn your skin on a leather seat. Considering all the other safety tech and driver assistance is the same. That base model is a serious good deal.
Many thanks to you and your wife for this awesome comparison Dave, a very helpful review for those considering various options and trim packages. Did you find the ride more comfortable with the smaller wheels, as the sidewalks appear to be a bit higher?
Can’t really tell the difference in ride quality between the two different sized wheels. Keep in mind they put 21’s on these cars in Europe where the comparison to 19” wheels would be more obvious most likely. Just go w the 19” if you are torn. Higher sidewall should mean fewer pot hole blow out issues, better mileage, better ride and they look pretty darn good.
Seriously, you are a better car reviewer than kyle(sorry Kyle) so consistence and on point, please continue with this….. for Basic viewer it way more explanatory
Awesome job! You’re a natural in front of the camera just like your son. If you don’t mind, how much was the vroom offer? I have reservations for the id4 pro awd and the MY. I personally much prefer the comfort and ride of the id4, but seeing all the crazy high used prices of MY, I’m think the MY might be a better financial decision. I was wondering if the ID4 resale prices are just as good. Thx
@@NickWainwright6970 My wife did not like the ride quality and the instant acceleration along with build quality on the Y. We test drove an ID.4 at our VW and she liked how it felt like a normal car in driving, yet fast enough. She’s always driven our new cars like Lexus/Toyota, so VW probably feels closer.
I stumbled upon this review and was very happy to find it. You should have your own channel or do more content! I have a lot of questions/comments. I own a Model Y and a ID4 Pro S without the gradient package. I was thinking of cashing one of them in. Of course, I could get much more for the Model Y, pocked the money and then wait until things come back to normal with more electric choices and better prices. Questions- I think you get the $7500 back and it has no tie to how long you own it, correct? So you were able to get all of those $7500 rebates right even though you sold right away? What about the CT rebate? Don't you have to pay a pro rated portion of that back? I know you do in NY as I've had to do it a few times. I buy and sell almost as much as you. One other thing - how much more did the Porsche cost compared to the Model Y? Did you sell to Vroom also? Thanks for the excellent videos. I love your perspective and like I said, you should consider your own channel with your wife. More of a normal user's perspective. Thank you
Thanks for your kind words! Yes you do need to pay back the pro-rated state $. However, you do get to keep the multiple $7,500 fed tax credits. We traded the Y in on a Macan and avoided paying sales tax (for the most part) on the Porsche. I am going to make another video soon about my new Moonstone Grey ID.4 AWD I just picked up. I am in the process of selling the White Pro S Gradient to Vroom again :)
I currently have a model Y on order but my heart is telling me to order the Moonstone Grey AWD ID.4 and cancel the Model Y order. I also have a Model X on order - but who knows if/when that may come in. I'm partial to VW having owned two beetles in the past. If you had to choose between the Y and the ID.4 which would it be or is it to apples to oranges?
I drive a Mazda CX5 2016 GS Sport, bought it brand new and of course first owner. Im thinking of switching electric, been considering Mach E (a bit expensive for me) love the Chevy Bolt EUV (preordered it) but now im considering getting this Pro S because it is similar to a regular SUV, the tech is nice design is classic VW the disco lights inside is a plus lol. But the massaging seats...im a cook in the Canadian armed forces i think this might be the push that I needed to switch to an EV...

Great, highly informative video. I think Kyle has a high bar to meet. Outstanding review of the ID-4
I really agree that that 12" display is really nice (and was included in our package). I also like the head up display which is really clear and helpful and gives me a more relaxed driving.
Plus! Plus! We got the Play and Pause gimmick on our Pro! 😉
Don't forget the Pro S also has the hands free trunk feature. You can also close it by kicking your foot underneath in the same way you opened it.
That exit would be called a sweeper, not a hairpin. Cloverleaf exits are so much fun to take fast. I almost slid off of one a few years back when it was very cold and damp.
I knew that as soon as I said it!!! :). Thx for watching!
We are looking at the ID4. Very helpful video to compare these two models.
I think that turn was a cloverleaf. A hairpin is (I believe) when the road does a 180 degree turn; essentially a u-turn road.
I love how happy he is with these cars
This was a great comparison. I’m happy with the reservation of a pro recently. It seems like a overall great vehicle and useable. My mini served its purpose as a training electric vehicle and it might be time to upgrade to the id4. Also perfectly said that it has to make financial sense. Loved all your vehicles so far keep up the good work.
This was great. I am interested in the Pro S , especially for the improved headlights, turn signal lights.
Great video Dave, I can see where Kyle gets his good looks from.
Love VW but have a Tesla M3 on order and if the Tesla MY comes out before the VW ID4 we may get that. Live in New Zealand so we tend to get the models a few years later than you guys in the USA.
Love the car in white. You and Kyle are my favorite car reviewers .. cheers from Chicago
Great job! Very thorough and entertaining.
Great comparison review i seen for ID4 . You did very very good Job i love it and made my decision .
Black top is nice but in Florida, it makes it an oven. Better to have the white top here.
I just rented my first id4 going to sesame street in San Diego. I love your great info on the vehicle and the question is to buy me one next year . Thanks again
A superb episode. Really useful info , well presented. Thanks, Dad, for a great review.
Kyle's mom The Real MVP 30:08 😂😍👏🏻
nice video. Can't wait to get mine. Kyle sold me on a pro. I ordered mine on the website.
That’s a sweeping turn - hairpin is sharp. Nice comparison…. Don’t take food off of your son’s table! 😂
These are nice looking cars. Do report back after 30K miles or so. The major problem people ought to have is not to trust VW after what it's done.
What did they do?
No frunks here. No biggie :)
Great presentation! I reserved the ID. 4 Pro S and hope to get it before year's end!!
Great comprehensive review. Thanks.
With Traffic Assist, it should come to a complete stop. I live in Europe, and my ID.3 do a full stop and start, however if the stop is above (?) seconds, you must touch the accelerator pedal, end it resumes your settings.
Bec
Since you purchased both cars, you are eligible for the $7500 tax refund and free charging at Electrify America on both cars.
Kyle’s review of the Q4 has me super interested, but rumor has it we won’t see these in the US until early next year
Great detailed review. I really enjoyed your comparison of both cars.
This was sick! Good review!!
Watched the whole thing. Excellent job
LOL
Excellent comparison .... Pro for me ... will place my order today ... Only a 6 month wait in LA!!!!
Dave, would you get the Pro S plus and do you think it's worth the extra money?
Those dangling fast charge port covers are most certainly “silly thing”s
Love it 🤣
Great comparison lots of good details.
Just awesome! Great job!
Looking to get a 2023 Pro S AWD. Was shocked to see so many 2022's still on the lot (many of them don't qualify for the current federal tax rebate!).
We charge at that Stanford charging station all the time on our way back from NYC to Hartford CT area
Grace period means you have free charging, but not free parking!!! Know the difference or you will PAY.
Thx
Sold my RWD Pro to them for $38k. And the Pro S RWD for $44k.
@@dconner9 there not bad at all, especially factoring in the tax credit!
I just ran into another white ID.4 at the New Haven EA station last night - it was not your Dad, however! Would've been cool to chat with him 8-)
Very informative, thanks, Dave
Great comparison review! I wish ProS had some sort of sentry mode. I would've ordered a one in the blink of an eye.
Thank you. I have been going through which on I should buy. This helped.
Awesome, great video!
So nice to see the Dad. The ID.4 is very easy to drive compared to Tesla.
Why do you find a Tesla hard to drive?
@@NickWainwright6970 My wife did not like the ride quality and the instant acceleration along with build quality on the Y.
We test drove an ID.4 at our VW and she liked how it felt like a normal car in driving, yet fast enough.
She’s always driven our new cars like Lexus/Toyota, so VW probably feels closer.
Excellent review!
