Im a Full time Driver for UPS. When your DIAD does the three beeps for when you arrive at your stop, make it a force of habit to immediately turn on your flashers and tap your horn. I am kinda surprised that you're still on the DIAD 5 but also for stops that only have one or two small packages, try to scan them as you're walking up to the door or delivery point, you'll be surprised how much time you'll save. And always walk behind the package car if you have to cross the road
I appreciate how you added the mistakes instead of editing them out. Awesome attitude. I am taking my driver test today and I am looking for all the tips I can get. Thank you for the video.
Hey I loved the video you did great !!! & I appreciate the info you packed into it im starting my first day Monday. can you make a video on the different tags ups deals with & when you have to pick up packages what tags or slips we leave behind it would be really helpful & useful thank you again !
My problem is I'm very slow looking for packages, if I can't find a package I would take forever to find it when it's not in the spot it's suppose to be
1. Sort while you look 2. Once your car is empty enough, sort every package so that you know that each one is either on its correct place on the shelf or it’s on the floor. If you then can’t find on the shelf or floor, you know that it’s not there and you can stop looking because it’s not there.
I’m a new ups driver and honestly you doing great my supervisor had taught me just throw your packages to front and scan your way to the door if it’s multiple packages throw them all to the cab do your 3 point contact and scan before you pick up saves you time I guess just passing over some knowledge that I was taught
When did they say anything about driving with packages in the cab? If you have multiple packages set them in the cab and THEN use three points of contact to exit truck and scan the packages
I have a question. I worked as a seasonal driver helper last year and this year and I was thinking about wanting to be a package driver. This year my driver was teaching where to find the packages with the sequence numbers how do I get better with being faster in finding them without taking too much time?
My best advice is to stop thinking “being faster”, because you will make more mistakes, possibly get into an accident and even more injure yourself, especially if you’re trying to scratch…
Go through the whole truck as soon as you have space to do so touching every box to put all the packages in sequential order. Takes 15-20 minutes but will make the rest of your day smooth.
Hi Elexus! I got a job as a PVD, Starting soon! Will this lead to a full time job? Or will I be gone by 1/1/23. I’m hoping to get a full time job on the package cars! What do you think? How long have you been with UPS? Your doing a great job!
I am going to say it is very difficult to get hired from a seasonal position because once January hits volume drops. It would be difficult to get hired from a PVD position even if they do need to hire permanent drivers, they would likely hire seasonal drivers who drove the package car first. The best thing you can do is make it known that you are looking for a driving position with them and work hard.
I’ve been thinking about ups, I don’t like the warehouse and I want to be a driver. I worked ups about a year ago, just as a seasonal helper. How hard would it be to become a driver. and honestly how many hours a week do you guys work. also what’s are the schedules for ups drivers.
hey my first day as a driver helper yesterday. I've been with ups for a year now but transferred to the department. Any friendly tips that I should know about. that isn't really spoken of. like how to be cool with the drivers?
Lol this was towards the end of the route when I start recording. I had about 195 stops/285 packages. But this route is mad easy, I was sad when the regular driver came back. Only one business and the rest is straight house all flat ground. Hopefully in a few yrs I get to bid on it when he retired 😏
Wow. I'm in Chicago here, Wrigley Center. Wish my truck looked as clean as ours. And it appears you're probably at the end of our day making this video. I typically go out with 180- 200 stops 250-300 pieces a day.
I love a clean truck, I had to help at another center for two months and those were dusty. I left work covered in just dust because they have rural areas. On an average day, I have about the same as you.
Rey I here ya..I leave the center and can't even reach shit on my 1000 shelve because of oversized stacked all down the middle floor of the truck...never go out with less than 150 it's usually 165-185
I deliver in the northwest suburbs of Chicago I wish my route looked that hella nice I typically run the same 200-230 a day 98% res 1 access point pickup and that’s my day
I saw the comment about “easy” and I was like “I already KNOW she too busy to upload and just so happened to finally have the time to scoop one out.”😢 Working hard out there 🦾🦾
Pretty much what lyrical said but sometimes it doesn’t work, I explain towards end of the video how I did this route without given GPS. Basically, I used my phone gps to get to the first and from there I would looked at my DIAD see what streets I have for the next 20 or so stops and pull out my phone and come up with mental map of how I’m going run the next 20 stops( reduce the amount of times I need to look up address on my phone).
I used to work as an Amazon delivery driver and breaks of any types were none existing. I know what it'll be like to be out there delivering but I was wondering on how strict UPS is about taking breaks. My managers used to get mad for taking a lunch break or bathroom break and insisted I kept moving no matter if it meant sacrificing my breaks. Is UPS less strict about taking breaks and will I be able to peacefully eat my lunch and not feel rushed?
We are union which in the contract it states that we get one hour unpaid lunch and 2 10 minute paid breaks. No matter if they try to rush you are guaranteed those breaks and you make it known to them that. Personally, I have never had issues with my supervisor or manager about breaks but each center (warehouse) is different.

Hello how are you doing
Congrats and the year and a half! My road test is this week.. Thanks for the video. Much appreciated!!
How was the road test what did you do in the road test?
I appreciate how you added the mistakes instead of editing them out. Awesome attitude. I am taking my driver test today and I am looking for all the tips I can get. Thank you for the video.

I would love too but unfortunately, I’m still out on leave and won’t be back until the beginning of January so by then it might be too late
Don't scan in the car. Pull in the mirror. Walk down the stairs forwards not backwards. Use flashers.
Also exit by rear bumper and return via rear bumper.
That TOP SCALE feel good 😊
I start tomorrow which is Monday for my driver helper position and trying to get my foot in the door to get a full time driving position!
Look like a great driver to me. the flashers, 3 points of contact and ringing the bell will come as you do it more and more.. fellow UPser as well
Also try to scan your package outside the cab.. telematics lol

I sometimes see UPS drivers have to bear hug huge packages up flights of stairs and im like i dont know 😂
How did you get that easy route? Barely any packages in that chill neighborhood.

I’m 23 and also new started in February 2022 Did you put the chain outside the back door? 👀
Yep, I put on before I leave the building. I leave it off until my last stop
Do they make you work in the warehouse before you can be a driver?
Usually yes, but the part timers get same bennies as full timers, so your dependents are covered too.
does being a pvd get your foot in the door? i would do anything to get a cereer in the driving feild
they hire 1 out of 7 off the street, best chance is starting part-time inside the warehouse as a package handler/other position

Are the delivery trucks automatic? I want to apply but I thought they were manual and I don't know have to drive a manual transmission.
Most centers have fully automatic packages cars very few manuals left.
@@elexust730 did you drive automatic in integrad school?!!
@@WaqasKhan-hx4hw yes

Thanks! I’m in Texas

Yes! Organization.
6 inches from curb when parked
That’s an automatic truck? I thought they were all standard? 🤔
Nope, there aren’t many standards left on road. My center haves zero manuals left.
Shouldnt have your diad in tour hand when you’re in the street. Not a safe walk path.
How do you know each stop? Looks like your not using GPS like Amazon where it tells you each delivery stop and so on.
Our GPS is on our boards the DIAD. We put it into the slot and it automatically turns on
