In 1965, I bought a Parker 75 exactly like this one to take lecture notes through 4 years of undergrad and three years of law school.($25, a princely sum for a poor college student at the time.) In 1976, I lost it, so replaced it with another exactly the same. In 1979, I found the first 75 where it had fallen from my pocket in a storage locker. It was well worn when lost and three years wedged under a tire on a concrete floor had not improved it. I sent it to Parker under the life time warranty for what turned out to be a complete restoration for free. It was like new when returned. I then sent the second 75 in for the same overhaul. I am a lefty, and the aligned grip worked well for me. I found the nib to be too stiff for my liking, but I didn't realize that until I took a dive into fountain pens generally some years later. I still have both 75, like new. After trying many fountain pens and brands over the years. my preference settled on a plain Namiki Falcon with its extremely flexible nib. When I want to go upscale, I take out one of several Parker Duofolds.

Great video! I really appreciate how you've pointed out the details of the pen. The Parker 75 was one of the pens I've collected when I started, and has a special place in my heart. =)

My section band is sterling, not gold. I wrote every class note in the four years I was in graduate school. I still use it most of the time.

I love how in-depth you are in these videos, I personally prefer pen and mechanical pencil reviews because I have a couple of high-end mechanical pencils but I'm in search for a fountain pen. I just wanted to thank you on being able to purchase these pens and review them before someone like me (a buyer) buys a expensive pen for 50-150+.

Great review. Great classic pen. Fantastic writer. . . tons of different nib options out there.
Just a possible FYI, the nib spins freely in the section. So the 0 indicator is where the nib would be in line with the triangular grip. You can twist the nib in relation to the section to make it better fit your grip so the tip can rest properly on paper. There was a little plastic tool that allowed you to twist the nib without needing to use your fingers and getting ink all over them.
Keep up the good work. Hope you find a Spanish Treasure 75 some day.

Great info Tom! I’m trying to track down a nice one with the indicators. Spanish Treasure would be nice too but I’d be too scared to use it!

@@unsharpen the one you has appears to be the newer French version. The nib and feed was improved. The indicators was more marketing than functional. If you are going to use the pen, I think you have one of the best versions.

I have two of these that I was gifted by a relative. One is silver with a 14k tip that ive been writing with daily for 2 years now. The other one has a 14k body and a sadly damaged 18k nib that is just too beautiful to write with. I have still never found any info on the particular models I have anywhere on the internet.

As much as I love my own Parker 75, I wonder why so many people overlook the humble Parker 45. I honestly feel like the Parker 45 is Parkers most collectible fountain pen which came in a zillion colors, finishes and materials over the years. And Parker 45 can sell for peanuts compared to just about any of the more popular pens like 51, 61, 75, etc...

    • @gentleman_of_the_pen
      @gentleman_of_the_pen 3 года назад +2

The 45 is my personal favorite from Parker. Especially the Insignia. It's basically perfect for my hand. But I also like my 75 ; the rotating nib is very convenient. I guess the 75 is more collectible because it's a higher-end pen. The 45 also has higher-end finishes (such as my insignia with the 18k nib) but the standard pen was more common. The fact the 45 is less sought-after makes it less expensive to get so in a way it's a good thing.

Couldn't agree more; well said! Put simply, everyone needs a Parker 45 in my opinion. :)

@ I had no idea. Here in the USA, Parker 45 can be found quite cheaply on auction sites if you are patient. Half the price of a 75 is crazy expensive indeed! Thanks for replying, and also for the great videos Bogdan! :)

I love the both pen and ink😃

I'm just throwing it out there...
But would you be interested in making a Parker 75 Ballpoint version?
I've always considered it the most prestigious version of the Jotter as I don't believe a jotter in Ciselè exists, and It would be really interesting to see a in depth review from you since it is quite less popular than its fountain counterpart :)
    Anyways lovely informative videos!

I got the same you are holding from my late grandfather now. I stupidly used the cartridge that was in its box. "Super quick parker tap tank". Saw that they are quite expensive these days after I jammed it in.. Just wanted to get it working. Didn't realize I have to wait a bit so I rinsed it many times and lost about 2/3 of the ink. It also has a metallic squeeze filling tank, but just wanted it to get running. It draws really nicely. Can I use any parker filling cartridges for them?
    Cheers from Finland.

Oh in mine it says on the band made in usa and sterling... + PARKER. It's in it's original box. Don't know if my grandfather ever even used it. He was really into antiques. My grandmom was going to throw it away, but manages to save it with many many more valuable items..

Do you know if collectors prefer the pens to have the tarnished look, or if cleaning them some so it's shiny is OK?

I am new to pens and just picked one of these up. Unfortunately mine is a bastard pen. The cap is just a normal 75 cap but the barrel is a Spanish Treasure Fleet edition. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have this exact pen, I inherited it from my grandpa. But I can't seem to get it to write, the ink just doesn't flow. I've tried changing the cartridge lots of times, have tried cleaning it in warm water, but it just wont work. Do you (or anyone else reading this) have any suggestions for something I could do to get it to work? Itd be a shame to let such a beautiful/sentimental pen just lie around in my desk. I'd really appreciate any advice

I soaked mine for about 24 hours in room temperature water with a little Dawn dish detergent and I couldn’t believe how much ink was in the nib or feed that was dried up and not allowing me to write with it. I changed the water out about three times. I put the pen over into a glass with paper towel putting the nib on the paper towel which pulled the water out and let it dry and it now writes like a brand new pen. I hope that will help your pen. Besides a Parker 65 I have the 75 is the best writing pen I have ever used.
