- I have cleaned many sterling silver Parker Ciseles over the years and have always used a polishing cloth. They work well but you may run into some problems if you over polish your pen. Like accidently removing the black lines in the Cisele pattern grooves. Especially when your pen is abundantly tarnished. Well I have to worry no longer with this simple trick I recently learned from a former Parker pen employee. All you need is a eraser and your job just got easier.

Thank you so much. I was given some silver pens from my workplace many years ago..was showing my daughter and they looked tarnished and awful..I have now 'erased' the stains thanks to your video. Now I can proudly show my children the pens.
I still have the same Cisele my girlfriend bought me when I graduated from college in 1973. I sent it back to Parker 25 years ago and they completely restored it to new condition. I love me some Sunshine cloths.

Wow! This was amazing. I just received a new Sterling Silver Cross pen and it was tarnished badly. Just used an eraser and looks beautiful. Thank you so much for this video!
The eraser is a good technique but you can safely use a sunshine cloth without removing the black inside the grooves by laying the cloth flat on a table and rubbing the pen on the cloth. Also, I don't remember where I learned it but latex and silver together cause an oxidization reaction over time. So, if you loose those lines and want them back faster than just letting it oxidize naturally, you can slip a latex sac over each end of the pen and let it sit. Look at it every few days to see how it looks. Now, this WILL oxidize the entire pen. So, you'll still have to polish it again. But, at least you'll have the black grooves back. Or you can use liquid liver of sulfur on a warm pen for an instant fix.

the “black” inside the grid is not really just oxidised silver. most of these pens had actual epoxy resin/black enamel in there, which provides a much much sharper and defined grid.
saying this because i ruined 3 parker pens with my “cleaning obsession” - ended up doing the faster oxy process a few times and whilst indeed it brought the black back, this is faint and not comparable to the original look when the actual resin/enamel is present and undamaged.
also, regarding the oxidation, the quick (real quick way, 20 minutes you see results already…) is to boil eggs, when they are ready, keep the white, crunch it and put it in a plastic container. i would use two eggs for 1 even 2 pens.
you can wrap the pen in a tissue or somehow create a small base to keep the pen up, you don’t want the silver directly touching the egg white as that would produce uneven oxidation and could even damage the silver.
once the egg white is in the box, together with the pen, close it.
within 20 mins you will already see the silver turning black. it’s the sulphur released by the egg and the silver reaction to it.
anyway, the pen will turn black … it’ll seem you’d fix the grid pattern, but you’ll have to polish the pen again now.
however, during the polishing you’ll notice the black in the grid whilst it will remain, it will fade a little, and in general won’t just look like it is supposed to - when actual enamel or epoxy is in there.
that’s why now i am on the path to get black epoxy (for silver plated like the ambassador) and enamel (for sterling 925, for 75 classic and any with the grid pattern).
for 925 sterling, you’ll want to guild deplete the silver first, before applying the enamel.
i haven’t done this yet but speaking from the knowledge gained by researching the process.

holy shit! this works so well. i have some sterling silver sheaffer pens that i inherited from my granpa who i passed away before i was born and i've never used them because i wanted to clean them first. i thought it'd be so complicated but this made it so easy!! i am ready to use them now!

I used a dremel buffing attachment and I removed the black on the grooves 🤣 guess I'll just wait for it to tarnish, then I'd try the eraser 😅

Hi, I have a Cisele pen and biro circa 1960’s left to me by my father. Love the eraser way to clean but do you have any recommendations for cleaning the inside of the pen? It’s in great condition and obviously used so I guess it’s got loads of dried ink in it. Thanks Rod

BTW, ciselé is pronounced "See-se-lay". It's one of those weird French words. :-)
I have heard it is pronounced that way from a former employer actually. But I never really hear anyone saying it that way. Especially not in Janesville.

There is. But that will fade the black lines in the grooves. You could also use a ultrasonic cleaner.
You could probably get those dents out with a shaped piece of dowel rod.
are the "gold" parts just goldplated brass or are they sterling parts with a goldplated layer?
95% is gold plate over brass, unless the pen is vermeil then it’ll be gold plate over sterling silver, or even better when it’s vermeil but the markings are specific and instead of just vermeil they write sterling and 14k G.F which means not gold plating but gold filled.

It looks like junk. Rubber will enter in the pattern and destroy black lines, the silver brush pattern is circular not linear on this model, so you clean in a lathe or rotate the barrel, not like this (factory satin is 1600-2000 sandpaper I think), always mechanical cleaning will destroy objects if is not done properly. So, congrats, you altered your Parker collection, in a wrong way.....
