Hi... my preferred "51" is the Flighter version, for various reasons (eg: metal has to be more durable than Lucite plastic?)... I was 47 seconds into your video, and thanks to your crisp hi-resolution imaging, I can confidently say you likely have a (more valuable) First-Year Edition of the 1949 Parker "51" Flighter. At 44 seconds I see a single digit 9 at the end of the barrel imprint (there are no dots either side or below the 9) meaning this barrel is from fourth-quarter 1949 production. Earlier on in the video I see you state the pen is a _1959_ example--there are physical features indicating this is impossible. First, the cap is fitted with the long-version, 14 "feathered" clip--this clip was discontinued in 1951 - 1952, a shorter version with ?12 'feathers' taking its place up until the 'band-less Flighter' was discontinued around 1960. Dating these pens is a study of the parts--because they were substituted by Parker in a slightly fluid manner over time; as stocks were used up, it is possible to find later 1949 pens with filler sheaths or indented barrel threads that don't strictly match the imprint by a year-or-so. BTW, date imprints on the Flighter barrel were discontinued circa latter 1951. Also, nibs (with date imprints) are very frequently replaced and caps can be swapped, further complicating the overall dating of individual examples. Your 1959 English nib would never be found in a Flighter which was only ever manufactured in the USA at Janesville, Wisconsin (I believe the Flighter is the only "51" version never reproduced at Parker's English Newhaven plant). Another example is your filler sheath which has the imprint "press 4 times" and it doesn't have a shiny chrome plating. This is the sheath of circa 1950 "51"s. The most desirable first-year Flighters will have chromed sheaths and "press 6 times". None-the-less I really like this pen... there is a small dent to the very tip of the barrel, but I see no brassing of the clip spine, nor much obvious vertical scratching of the barrel over the imprint zone (a unique Flighter problem)... indicating the pen has seen little use. Thank you for making one of the few videos on YT featuring the "51" Flighter :-) and for giving me the pleasure of making such a very, very long YT comment! ;-)

Wow, Hello and thank you for so cool comment.
First of all, you are absolutely right, this pen is from 1949. Unfortunately in the video, I only showed the production year of the nib, but the pen itself made in 1949. You have a lot of knowedge about Parker 51! I have another short video about Parker 51 Flighter, there I showed, that it is from 1949.The small dent to the very tip of the barrel was repaired, no dent any more. Thank you for such cool comment!

@@HappyPensVideos Thank you for producing such an incredibly comprehensive disassembly/ restoration video! I have a Mint 1949 Flighter Set in the original large purple silk-lined case, with an almost imperceptible micro-ding to the barrel end adjacent to the breather hole. I always wondered "how on Earth can such tiny dings be repaired"... You are most talented--thanks for showing how to perform such a totally comprehensive restore at hi-res--really helpful to the entire world's pen collecting community :-)

Christ, this renovation is akin to high horological restoration! Who fabricates a custom 'block' to remove a small ding in the end barrel😮.
Truly a man dedicated to his craft, and amazing the lengths enthusiasts now go to restore these vintage works of art to factory fresh condition.

It's a great idea, thanks for your advice. However, later or earlier it will require replacement anyway. I prefer to have a clear sac, so I can check the ink capacity in the pen. I restored the pen for myself, So, I have chosen the sac of my preferences.
