I love my two wheel drive truck. It pulls my boat out if the launch which is gravel and mud mixed. (2011 ford f150 xlt) i use Michelin road tires.

One thing to note is 4x4 does not guarantee a higher tow rating. It does however offer a bit more bite going up a wet ramp, as the video mentions. An example is the GM/Chevy GMT400 lineup, RWD had much higher tow capacity rating. 4x4 was the limiting factor, with the front diff. We elected to grab a 97 Sierra 1500 back when it was new and RWD was needed due to the weight of other items we hauled.

Ive always owned 4x4 trucks living up north, ive moved south and tecently purchased a 2wd truck as my need for 4x4 seems pretty slim. Out of curiosity, for someone fishing a lot and the concerns of a boat ramp issues, what made you decide to go woth a 2wd?

Whats happening man. I actually had the truck before I got my boat. I was debating on getting a 4x4 once I got the boat but everyone I talked to said it was needed down here in Alabama. It's been fine for me all year around on multiple ramps.

Well thank you for the response. Since I bought the 2wd reading a bunch of people's comments about why having a 2wd is stupid made me second guess my purchase but this pretty much solidified I made the right choice for what I need. So thank you for this video

I just bought me a Jon boat and I’m going to use my 07 Colorado it’s 2300lbs within the towing capacity it probably weighs 980 lbs do you think it would be ok it’s a 2wd I’ve got some new all seasons as I’m 17 and saved up for the boat and I dont wanna buy new tires already

    • @bassnwbuddy2617

I think it will do fine. Just keep in mind the slope of the ramp and good grip on the ramp. Also, 4wd can't help you on icy ramps so take caution and use your instincts when it's cold.

@@bassnwbuddy2617 thanks yea I won’t be towing anything in the winter if it’s icy or anything like that as well it’s a 2wd plus a boat don’t go together well in the winter I hope it does good I love my truck and I don’t want it to be a one time submersible

The size/weight of the boat is nearly meaningless, and all terrain tires are often worse than highway tires. The most important factor is the ramp. I've launched boats from under 1000lbs to 13,000lbs with 2 wheel drive and cheap highway tires without any traction issues.

Love the comment. I'm sure your comment will definitely help out with someone questioning 2 wheel drive especially on certain boat ramps. Thanks again and I appreciate your comment. 🙌🙌

Good video!! The weight of a boat plays a huge part in launching a boat with a 2 wheel drive truck. My lightweight 16 foot aluminum bass tracker is much easier to launch. Then a heavy salt water boat. Less weight pulling the truck down. Good tires and a decent ramp are important too.

@@jeepernj99 I launched my 13,000 Lb boat with 2 wheel drive and skinny cheapo highway tires. I also launched it with my other truck on big high quality off-road tires without using the 4wd. Neither one slipped at all. Conversely, there are some ramps where many truck/boat combinations spin tires without 4wd, Site 6 in Havasu is one of those.

The key in my opinion is having proper tongue weight on the trailer. Have weight pushing down on the truck suspension. That will determine a lot in traction.
