I was in labor for over 56 hours. I was exhausted, I got the epidural. It was absolutely not and never is a "luxury". That husband is a piece of garbage. I hope she and her child are able to move onto better because the mom and child deserve way better.
Yeah, but what usually happens is the mom ends up single and on drugs. The kid becomes entitled (female) or becomes a convict (male). Even as bad as the first father is, the mom would do well to stick it out until the kid is in college AT LEAST.

This exact thing happened to a relative of mine. The husband's response to her regarding the billing was, "well you wanted a baby." 🤬 He also left her in the hospital for most of her stay instead of taking up the offer to stay the night. They are now divorced, of course.

My wife got the epidural, and our baby is perfect. My wife is healing very well. We pay the hospital together. Our family is beautiful. She did the hard work of carrying our daughter in the womb and pushing her out. Now, we get to raise her together as a team.
When that guy falls off the ladder cleaning out the gutters, he gets to pay the hospital bill himself, ambulance ride and everything.
Yes. And if and when he ever needs a surgery, he should opt out of having anesthesia. I mean, it's only a couple hours of pain.

It is even more upsetting in Vietnam where the hospital require the husband to sign before the epidural. A lot of husbands either didn’t want to spend the money or his mom advised him against epidural (either because of money or jealousy). These husbands end up refusing to sign. These poor wives begged and begged.
Imagine you are in labor pain and completely heart broken at the same time 😢

This is bonkers… It is a joke that some women get shamed for getting epidurals. You don’t see men getting shamed for taking anesthesia at the dentist or for surgery. Back in the day they had to just deal the the pain in those aspects too, but you don’t see anyone saying “Yeah, you need to do that naturally.” Lol

I've gone both ways. Some deliveries I got an epidural and some I didn't. Every delivery is different and should work on a case by case basis. There's no shame in an epidural.
Child support and alimony is going to cost a WHOLE lot more than that epidural and hospital stay for HIS child. I can guarantee if they had combined finances previously he'd react exactly the same way (with maybe even more control exhibited).
Either way it is a lose lose. There is a high chance that she would leave him either way.
People often don’t realize the bizarre arrangements or dysfunction they live in until after they leave it. It’s sad, and definitely more of a roommate situation than a marriage. Common accounts foster conversations around common goals. I lived like this for 10 years (we divorced after the 2nd child our was born)when I married my high school sweetheart after college.

The 8k was the whole hospital bill. But that was likely after insurance. Health care has gotten insane.

Horrible. We just had our first. Yes the bill was super high even with insurance. I ensured my wife stayed at home while I payed every single penny of the medical expenses. I love her and would never make her pay that. She respects and honors me and is a great mother. Respect the mother of your child

I don’t condone violence, but I just had a baby recently and I remember my hormones were everywhere. I cried and got irrationally angry over the smallest things. If my husband said that mess to me while I was in that state…..his teeth would have been on the floor, I know I would have lost it. I would have completely lost it.

I’m in the UK. A British friend of mine was in the USA during part of her first pregnancy because of her husband’s job. She attended ante-natal groups and was confused when the other women asked questions about how long you could delay having an epidural - until she found out that the epidural was charged per 15 minutes! Therefore, reducing the amount of time actually receiving epidural anaesthesia would cut the bill significantly! She was shocked and so were we when she told us! Luckily she was back in the UK when she gave birth, at zero charge 😊

This reminds me of a video I recently watched about the show "Unexpected" which features pregnant teenage couples. The young couple wanted a natural birth but after 24 hrs of labor the girl had to go to the hospital and was suffering maternal exhaustion. When she decided she wanted an epidural the boyfriend called her a "drug addict" and claimed she was already high from the iv fluids she was getting. They ended up kicking the kid out for awhile because threw such a fit about not wanting his child to have meth in his system. Yes he actually insisted the epidural consisted of meth, fentanyl and other drugs and that she would immediately become addicted once she received it.
I about lost my mind watching that. This one wasnt far behind.

I was married for 10 years & we had separate bank accounts the entire time, but we split everything. We didn’t divorce because of money & we didn’t have fights about money.
I married my husband because he was a good person, so irregardless of how you spli accounts or having an account together, it doesn’t really have a bearing.
If you are married to a terrible person, that is how they’re going to act, terrible.. I feel bad for the new mom, she’s completely vulnerable right now and scared and trying to take care of a newborn. She probably can’t exit the marriage right now.

I find it hard to believe that during seven years of marriage, this guy didn’t wave this giant red flag in all that time with other things. What women put up with to have a man baby boggles my mind.
