I haven't been able to get Ocarina of Time out of my head lately. I've been playing so much Breath of the Wild. At this point, I have 100%'d both normal and master mode. Yes, that means all korok seeds too. It truly is my favorite game :'D It's been making me want to return to the game that started this whole personal love for the series (well this game and Link's Awakening). I didn't have enough time to make a full video for this week due to commissions, but I figured why not play around with the Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask soundfont and make my own Ocarina Theme? I only had a few hours, but I decided to try and follow the philosophy that the Zelda 64 games followed when it came to playing a composing one of the themes. I'm pretty happy with what I got! Anyways, this is "I Made My Own Ocarina of Time Theme". I hope you enjoy!

As someone who was not born when this game came out, and only got to playing it later (and by later I mean around 2017) even I can feel some sort of nostalgia from it, because I remember playing it when I was severely depressed, and used it as one of my many distraction tools to cope.

You catch a wild Wood wood, evolve it into a Rock Rock via level up, and finally it becomes Metal Metal when traded with a metal coat item (or metal cover if you will)

@@Jojo2 that confirms you played the song right, I meant the Jingle that plays while link looks at the Ocarina as it Glows and it usually does a pan of the area
I see what youre referring to. When you learn zelda's lullaby, that happens, but not when you learn a temple song. Normal songs that dont teleport you do not have that same thing. They have what he recorded here.

Honestly, i have a video suggestion: how about a "corrupted hub" theme? Imagine the main villain takes over the game's hub world, twisting it into a dangerous lair filled with familiar, yet dangerous obstacles.
So, something like the Infected Crossroads from Hollow Knight?

Fun fact: "sforzando" is a musical term and it's pronounced as one word, not s forzando. The symbol for it is sfz just like in the logo, and it's kinda somewhere in between a dynamic and an articulation, and it's basically just saying to play that note loudly and fanfare-like

Another fun fact: there is a term for when a song is written in a minor key but ends on a major 1. It's called a "Picardy Cadence" or more specifically raising the third is called a "Picardy Third"

I grew up playing Ocarina of Time. Hearing you break down the style of those in-game ocarina songs and make your own was cool and also gave me a few chills. Good work! I'd love to hear more OoT inspired songs from you.
As far as I'm aware the n64 was the first console which had it's sounds fully software driven. This means that theoretically there are no limitations to the music (except the samples can't be over 64kb or something like this).
But because many composer didn't want to make completely new sample libaries, they still used the old ones from the snes. The snes had a limitation of 8 channels (sound effects included). Thus the "style" of composing continued onto the n64 and composers still used only around 8 channels and tiny samples. This is also why the music sounds so alike in snes and n64 games: they used the same techniques and the same samples

I love the instruments they used for ocarina of time and majoras mask. I love how they reused the sounds like it’s a very simple generic midi instrument sounds but it’s so catchy and nostalgic compared to any other Zelda OSTs. I wish Nintendo made a hero of time era zelda game with these same midi instrumental nostalgic sounds for the game… but honestly dude I’m so glad I found your video cause I just download this vst for my fl studio hehe.

I think it was ALMOST perfect! In Ocarina of Time, the melody always plays "whole" with the accompaniment at the end, when you play it.
English is not my native language so I don’t know if I can explain it well, but in other words, I feel that when the piano starts, it would need to repeat once with the ocarina sound on top before jumping to the 2nd part of the melody. But the melody itself is perfect, almost indistinguishable from one in the original game! Amazing!

This sounds right at home among the other warp songs/special songs from OoT/MM
I think you should've tried to give it a name too!
When listening to the song it made me think of BoTW's huge open fields so if we were to "add" this song into OoT as a warp song I think it should take you to hyrule field, the most open place in the game
In order to name it, the established formula is: "Music genre + noun"
OoT used elements of the temples for its noun while MM went in a different route, choosing a noun that relates to the song itself
So since we are warping to a big open field I think "freedom" is a good choice
For the "Music Genre " I don't know much about music theory, so I was considering Aria, which comes from latin "Air" which could work thematically, but apparently Arias are made to be performed by one's voice, not an instrument
So I later found the Aubade, which is kinda like the sibling of the Serenade and contains elements relating to mornings and daybreak so a new day to explore a large field seems nice
So, thus I propose:
"The Aubade of Freedom"
This is so perfect and it sounds like a finished but cut song from the real game, great job!
But PLEASE!! That song NEEDS to have a B5 appended to the very end in the Harp 2 instrument, right at the end there! Please do that for me

You probably have no shortage of confidence, but I still want to say that you are just really, REALLY talented. The way you're able to just piece things together like that, and have it sound exactly like it was taken from the game...and yes, I realize you used actual sounds from the game, but if I had access to that stuff, I'd have just made "Mary Had a Little Lamb" with horse neighs.

Yeah, watching 8bit Music Theory, Adam Neely, and all those great channels explain broad musical concepts with specific examples is useful, but sometimes I find myself learning just as much, and getting inspired by, just watching you make music, or explain your thought process, even for silly little compositions like this one. I’ve been using a Casio CTK-720 as a midi controller and general keyboard for years and a lot of the sound fonts built in to the keyboard (I’m fairly certain) sound almost identical to the instruments from OoT and MM. It’s a very classic midi feel and I recommend picking one up if you can and you enjoy that kind of aesthetic.
