    I've been a Paramedic for the past 30 years and I can tell you from experience that a 22lr is a VERY deadly weapon at close range. A vast majority of the gun shot deaths I have worked have been with a 22lr.

    As a board certified trauma surgeon, a 22 caliber pistol is a very deadly weapon.

    • @Vaille32
      @Vaille32 3 года назад +34

      Indeed it is. The .22lr bullet tends to tumble and can strike the target sideways. They fragment and ricochet about inside the body rather than exiting like a larger calibre. Nothing like being internally shredded. I have no issue with the .22 calibre itself. It’s the unreliability of the rimfire cartridge that’s problematic. I modified my LCP II .22lr by changing out the springs and the trigger. Also installed a new grip. Works flawlessly now (it used to fail w/ some regularity, esp w/ CCI, Aguila, Remington, and Winchester loads) and I have no compunction against using it CCW alongside my 9mm, 38spl, and others. Now that I trust the gun to go bang if I need it to, I’ll carry it.

    • @timmlong1038

      I only carry a. 22 for concealment. Shot placement is critical, the deadly golden triangle, and under collar bone 1" inside shoulder, the soft area. My .22 Walther ppk/s is my favorite choice. The accuracy is fonomal, and good quality 36gr 1260 fps is a great choice for my ppk. Using Troy Landry / CCI is the most reliable for my ppk. This ammo works w/mine, it may not for you. Even though, it's finicky w/ammo, once you find what works best w/o jamming or other mishaps, then practice, practice, and keep practicing, and your muscle memory, will hit your target every time. With ten rounds, and one in the tube, makes for a deadly encounter for the bad person who may have a .380, 9mm, .40, and .45. He/she just has 1 shot, and a wild one at that. because he won't be able to re-center if held sideways. If held sideways, they weren't trained properly with HG'S. after he's shot his/hers wepon. Also, their skills are not to par with yours, and typically have a bullie mentally. After the assailant shoots, you and your tranning will have taken over and you will answer with persision shoots of 6-7x's with a .22 that will tear the bad person apart because of vary lettle recoil it possess. In my opinion, a .22 is the most underrated hand gun for self defense. It doesn't have the knockdown power as those metiond above, but as the Dr's. statement the tumble of a .22 can cause travel t/o the body before resting. NEVER underestimate the power of a .22 in capable hands.

Don’t just keep it in your bedside table or in your purse and assume you’ll know what to do under distress. "It's better to have a good 22, than it is to not carry anything." That is an important statement that is lost on a lot of gun folks. If you consider the stats that many attacks are resolved simply by having a gun without firing a shot, this further strengthens the point. A well shot 22 won't win every battle, but it can provide a life-saving break in contact for a significant portion of them in a way that having no gun at all cannot.

      In NY displaying a firearm is called "Menacing with a firearm". Will put you in jail. A cop friend of mine saved the life of an assault victim. Was investigated by the Police Department and furthermore dragged into Court because the assailant said he did not identify himself even though no shots were fired. Btw, the perp at the time was chasing him around a car til the cops got there.

    • @theearstohear
      @theearstohear 3 года назад +5

      It is certainly true that there are many gun laws that can put those who carry in a bind if they ever opt to draw a weapon in self defense. Such laws are so wacky, in some instances, that it might be LEGALLY advisable to draw and shoot, even if shooting proved unnecessary in the mind of the shooter between the time of the draw and the trigger pull, rather than to draw and NOT shoot. The former action might improve one's legal case by sustaining the classic "I was in fear for my life, I had to shoot" defense, whereas the latter might give the appearance of "I was in fear for my life, but I didn't have to shoot" which in turn might expose one to the accusation of unnecessary brandishing or menacing. Those are tricky issues that likely prove difficult to navigate in the moment.
      All that said, many immediate threats are resolved IN THE MOMENT by having a gun. The AFTER THE MOMENT, secondary, legal threats, however, are usually not resolved but complicated by having a gun regardless of whether it is drawn and not-fired or drawn and fired. I guess that goes back to the old adage: "I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6." The prospect of finding yourself in a legal bind over drawing but not shooting, when in all candor that was the RIGHT thing to do and should be perfectly legal under the 2A, is not pleasant given the rabidly anti-gun sentiment that exists in many parts of the US today. There are many who believe that simply carrying a firearm is an act of terrorism, rather than a constitutional right, and I'm sure they're eager to punish anyone they can, given the opportunity.
      Thanks for the good comment. There are multiple layers of risk to consider when it comes to exercising 2A liberty in the USA today.

    I just bought this hand gun for my daughter who has been out of college and on her own now for 3 years. She is very petite with small hands. She danced all thorugh high school and college and made her way on to the Dallas Mavericks dance team. She was always the smallest female on most of dance teams. She now teaches dance at a high in Texas. Well any way I bought her the Taurus PT 22lr because of the flip up barrel and double action only tigger. Well it jammed every magazine and I end up sending it back to Taurus for a new one. I lost all confidence in the firearm and decided to go with the this Ruger Lcp 22lr. The Ruger is far superior than the Taurus pt 22lr. I took the Ruger to test fire and guys it did not mis a beat out of 100rds of five different types of ammo from lead hollow point,cooper plated hollow points ' round nose, cci, federal, aguilar, all different velocity. It fired exactly like the LCP in this video........it is quality built firearm and very reliable. Get one guys

This LCP won’t run more than 3 rounds without a jam. Sent it back and got a new one, same problem. This last weekend I saw a lady at the range training with the same gun….won’t fire 3 rounds. A gun that won’t shoot is a paperweight. Really turned me off from anything ruger

I went ahead and purchased the Ruger LCP 22lr. I have ran over 300 rounds of different ammo altogether and never had a malfunction. I ran some Aguila 22lr super extra and very impressed with accuracy and the function of the little Ruger 22lr. My daughter loves it. Sometimes you have to carry a 22. In my last job, I used to go into abandoned houses to review them structurally. We worked in a decent sized urban area. Many of these houses had junkies and meth heads squatting in them. My organization didn't technically allow employees to carry guns. After a coworker got robbed by a meth head I decided that I was gonna carry. All my boss said was, "Make sure you get a really small gun. If anyone else notices that you're carrying, I'll need to fire you." I bought a 22, and it became my best friend. Went into all the dangerous houses with me.

      Roger that. Over 50 years ago, Mom stopped a would be home invader with a Marlin lever action 22 rifle. Dad had just gave it to me- my 1st gun. I was 7. After failing to get in a window, he tried to get through our locked back door. Mom hollered, "I have a gun !". He ignored her warning and kept pushing the door. Mom fired one round through the door. That's all it took to change his mind. We ran next door and Mom called the cops. After listening to her story and looking at the bullet hole in our door, the cops said "Good job. If he comes back- do it again !".
      Oh, I still have that ole Marlin model 39.

    I carried a G26 for years and while I was very accurate with it at the range, no matter how often I went (usually once a week)! I always was a little off with the second shot when doing double taps. I also have a S&W 22 compact and I am always able to put multiple shots on target and very quickly. Additionally, I have a suppressor so I can practice all the time without having to go to the range.
    I have never had a failure with this pistol and that is not hyperbole, so I feel just as confident as I did with my Glock that it will fire when I need it to.
    Finally, if it is good enough for your wife or elderly, why is it not good enough for everyone. I am not going to war with it.

    I have about 2500 rounds thru mine in the last 2 months. Super reliable, super easy to shoot. Surprisingly accurate. I love it.
    I found that mine prefers 36gr CCI mini mags.
    Edit(~1year): I don’t know the exact round count but it is no less than 6000rds. I have not had a failure in at least the last 1000 rounds. I exclusively use 36gr MiniMags. Nothing but high praise for this little blaster.

      @steve jones For bulk ammo I prefer Federal 36gr HP and this pistol does not like it. Multiple multiple multiple light primer strikes. If you don't use bulk reliability is near 100%
      I use CCI ammo (32gr stingers, 40gr Solids, 36gr HP, & Segmenting HP) and the gun runs great. I feel comfortable carrying it with any of these rounds. Lcp 2 is very accurate & it just runs! If you're thinking about buying it, do it!

    Its a fun plinker, and I say good backup gun. Mine does have issue shooting the "Self Defense" type rounds on occasion. Federal Punch which has the 1000+FPS velocity on paper matches well because that velocity is measured with a 2" barrel length. But the gun itself has come issues with the flat nose vs round nose ammo. With that, even as a back up, a few CCI Mini-Mags or Aguila High Velocity, which mine shoots both flawlessly, hopefully would give enough break time to get away.

    I own 2. It's my go to carry concealed. Light weight, very inconspicuous. And I can find and buy .22lr rounds all day for cheap. Can't say the same for .380, 9 mm, or any other round.

      Exactly. I've got an LCP (original), and is it ever SNAPPY -- to the point of discomfort.
      An LCP in .32 ACP would be welcome, but ... .380 and .32 rounds are SO expensive (minimum $0.51/rd), whereas .22LR may be found $0.10/rd. Just to practice with the centerfire rounds for PROFICIENCY can drain the wallet.
      .22LR in 40 grain round nose is the better choice for this Ruger 22 LCP model. If any problem with cycling (after cleaning), then the Galloway Precision springs upgrade kit is recommended.

      I also agree that this pistol should have never been a .380 ACP and should have only been a .22 LR as it is now. If you want a small .380 ACP the Colt Mustang Pocketlite, Sig Sauer P-238, Kimber Micro 380, Kahr P-380 and GLOCK G-42 are a much much better choice!

    On forensic files the most used caliber is the 22 long rifle. There was one where someone used a mouse gun in 25 acp.

    It would be interesting to see a gel test of such a pistol performed at about 2 to 3 yards including a mag dump. Perhaps even with a string or two fired from the 'hip' / 'belly gun' mode. Not that I would recommend that. But if close in you may not get chance to obtain a good stance. It would be interesting to see a 5 shot to 10 shot string fired with the pistol next to the gel block too; 'get off me' mode as it were.

      I tried that at the range last week...shooting from the hip at 10 feet half of the rounds didn't even hit the paper...! I am going to think about this, and try again at next range visit...and use a regular sized target instead of the small target...

    great trainer for if you carry the 380 auto model. For ME the only 380 auto I will carry is a glock 42 as it is totally reliable and is bigger but you can shoot faster followup shots etc
    Thanks for the video.

    As usual we see + and - comments. I found this to be a fun gun. I painted the front sight orange and added a Hogue grip sleeve. This greatly improved my accuracy. Inexpensive and fun time at the range. Not looking for a CCW or possibly hunting. Just a little fun!!!!
