Am i the only one who thinks that 148 episodes is not enough?
Yup we need more but seeing how Hiatus x Hiatus is back we'll need to wait linger for season 2 only got 10 chapters this time
i think its enough, but the number annoys me. like, i wish it was 150ep. there really isnt anything to extend the episode number (and im being petty) but a girl can dream

Am I the only one who liked the original Hunter X Hunter from 2004 than the one from 2011? Like, the new one has better animation but I don't like these aspects:
- Its darker turn of events that could or should had been lighter.
- The first part of the newer version passes by important events like they were nothing.
- Gon doesn't show love with animals nor do they show love to him.
- Gon gets his arms blown off by a evil guy and does not throw the guy in jail.
- Gon's father (who seemed to show love for his son but wanted to explore the world in the original version and felt guilty about it) is turned into a douche who avoids Gon even if Gon is in the hospital.
- Certain events to get to know other characters like Leorio were taken out which would had let us like him better.
- The chance encounter that Gon had with his father's pupil before the chimera arc was confusing UNLESS YOU SAW THE ORIGINAL VERSION
- The chimera arc in general was just a different series. Gon sacrifices his very life to beat up a chimera which is out of character for him to do. Gon isn't prideful and tends to know his limits, and if he was like this he would had went to fight with the clown guy when they first met. Also, the fact the queen basically ate people in order to produce mindless slaves... The sister that became the new queen... the fact they didn't even need to fight the boss if the heroes left him alone with the girl... These people are suppose to be intelligent.
- Gon is now cut from the series guys. Because he has no powers, they cut him. Ya know, the original protagonist that started everything. Ya, his adventure is over. That will be it from me.
Honestly, the original 2004 was dark but this version kind of depressed me. So many people were dying left and right without reason, Kouya is on the run even though his family won't do anything to the sister anymore, and Gon's dad seems to be the new star of the series. I don't know people, if a series starts off trying to be friendly, sweet, and nice then shouldn't it at least adhere to having a semi-nice ending that doesn't involve Gon's inspirational figure putting his mind into a young girl, Gon almost dying, and his dad being a butt. It took over 100 episodes just for the dad to talk to Gon.

It's not bad but it doesn't fully embody the series itself and how dark and morally ambiguous characters can be. Some people just drop it off thinking it's the cliche Shonen anime . I feel sorry for them
Exactly. The lighter beginning gives the contrast and impact value on when it starts to get darker. The beginning is so sweet and innocent and that's where you just get to know the characters and the world.

Same, a lot of these villains are so amazing and the friendship between gon and killua, the king, the king and komugi. But I guess his review would be 2 hours long if he mentioned all this.

The current arc has so much potential to be one of the best things I've ever seen. However, my deepest fear is that by the time S2 gets animated, I may no longer be existent in this world.

+letmeknow Well, actually he has backache so he can't sit and draw anything becouse he will suffer a lot, i have a couple of friends which have this and they can confirm it's so freaking painfull they can't even run/walk/travel for long distance becouse they will litteraly die, apart from the backache Togashi doesn't have any collaborators to help him with the development of the manga, he said that he don't like having a collaborator and he wants to do EVERYTHING alone (drawing, inking, story writing). I think i know why he said that, time ago he was doing YuYu Hakusho (which i think is a masterpiece excluding the ending of the anime/manga and i'll tell you why) the publisher that hired togashi pushed him to release chapters as fast as possible so togashi effort a lot with that, and the last part of the manga/anime was a complete disaster, i think he wants to proceed slowly so he can think at a better storyline but now that he got backache and other stuffs it will drastically slows the release

Hunter x Hunte 2011 is one of the greatest fictional thing I have ever experienced. The episode number 135 (THAT episode) is the saddest thing ever. I actually cried for 25 minutes non stop after it. Nothing will ever beat the sadness and beauty of that episode in all media.

I agree with most of your points, except when you said it's hard to get into. For me before I had seen Hunter X Hunter I had only watched your typical shonens like Naruto, One piece, Fairy tail etc. When I came across Hunter X Hunter it was so refreshing to see something different. I was immediately drawn in by the characters, plot, and world. And it just keeps getting better. It's easily my all time favorite series, and if you're a fan of anime I would say it's a must watch. It will change your perspective on the genre entirely. For me it sets the bar for anime extremely high, because it's a masterpiece.

I'm not trying to hate on HxH, but I'd say it's given too much credit. Everywhere you look it has insanely high ratings and I think it's just a little bit too overrated. I can't really see how you think it isn't given enough credit.

I'm pretty sure he meant it in the way of it's not popular enough. It's way better than other shonens out there, and I'm with that opinion. Literally, HxH was in the very las spot of my internal shonen list I made to watch based on popularity, I had almost no reason to watch it for what I read online, and I went through Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, an Fairy Tail, and though I liked them, I find HxH way superior, and that's why I'd say it has not enough credit. Though for the high ratings it has on a lot of websites is due to the fact that the people who actually watched realized how good it was. I'm pretty sure if you see number of people who watched long-term anime, HxH is at the very bottom.
The Ants arc is the best thing I ever watched, and it didn't even have my favorite character "Hisoka"

So yeah, if Togashi says that if he draws an origin of Hisoka by himself, he will connect it to this Oneshot then the Oneshot is canon.

Thats the best part of the show. You can't expect anything because they dont force all the characters to be around all the time. It's a real living world.
My only legitimate complaint is how slow paced the climax of the chimera ant arc is, it takes like 20 episodes for 3min to pass.

I forced mylself through the first 5 episodes, now it's my number one anime in the world and I wish there were 5,000 episodes, if the dark continent ark isn't animated, I will commit suicide.
I mean, the whole thing pulled me in and I felt like I was friends with gon and killua, I cried when it ended, I cried watching it, I cried when I found out about the movies, I cried when I found out the manga was returning. honestly it was fucking life, bleach, naruto etc, are fucking great but Hunter x Hunter is my yaweh, my Allah, my fucking king.

At the very least, even if he didn't invent the shounen anime, he redefined the genre and every anime in it has either ripped off him, or is compared to the standard he set. The Dark Tournament is still lifted by many to be the greatest arc in shounen.

I would agree that Steins;Gate has less plot holes. However, HxH has consistently great art & animation for 148 episodes, an amazing soundtrack and some of (if not) the best character development (and characters) in anime. The story and writing is also superb - especially considering it manages to remain fantastic throughout its 148 episodes.

Episode ~30 is when it gets ... Not boring. Not that the first 30 were boring. But once the characters are introduced to nen, things get interesting.

+Ralph Strocchia Honestly, I think it gets interesting long before we learn what Nen is. I'd say it's around episode 20. I mean, I was already thoroughly enjoying it by the end of the Hunter Exam arc, but the way that arc ends just blew me away because it totally defies ordinary shonen conventions and suddenly you realize this anime is going to be something completely different from what you assumed. Honestly, I could even go back earlier and say that the first time it really started to impress me is the island survival stuff in the Hunter Exam arc.
But that's kind of one of the great things about Hunter x Hunter. Peppered throughout the series, there are so many surprising moments where the world unfolds and you realize there's so much more to the story than you thought. It's constantly defying your expectations, but never with cheap twists. It's always with unconventional story developments that make perfect sense in hindsight, but that you could have never predicted.
+Ralph Strocchia For me the breakthrough point was when they solved Trick Tower with Gon having that brilliant out-of-the box idea of opening one door, then smashing the wall and crossing into the other. I love that aspect of the show, that things aren't solved merely by brawn but by brains as well. Then there was the trial on the island where they have to chase after each other that was legitimately gripping. From there on it only got better.
I genuinely thought i wasnt going to like this...but then it just hits you with shit gets real. and it just kept getting crazier but at the same time, it made characters that would typically would do nothing but fight, actually talk, converse and even compromise when a situation is bad. this show is harsh, brutal, but also hopeful and inspiring. its quite and amazing show to go through.

its a great classic action anime that i feel a lot of reviews dont ever mention and really should be watch by more people. Granted the art may look a bit dated now but personally i will always love the show.

the running joke amount chinese fans was Togashi was addict to playing mahjong, the only reason we saw manga update once a while because he lost and need to pay off his gambling debt
Another one is that he's fan of RPGs like Dragon quest, so every time a new game came out, a hiatus followed xD

I didn't really like fairy tail but I think people are a little harsh on it.
I personally love Fairy Tail, it's what got me into anime, but I can see why people would not like it. I agree though that people are very harsh on the show.

HXH2011 is awesome. One thing that annoyed me is the strong narrative and few...Happenings during some of the insect arc's episodes.

I don't really agree. Most people who say Hunter x Hunter is better than Fullmetal wouldn't say that if Hunter was more popular, and just overhype it because they unconsciously don't think it's wrong to hype up an underrated show to much. Hunter x Hunter has a huge amount of problems, it's just so good that people overlook it's flaws to much.
I mean, the only good arcs are : The Fighting City Arc, The New York City Arc, and the Insect Arc. The other ones are mediocre, like the game one or the one were Killua goes back to his family(though his dad is cool) or half the damn hunter exams.
Fullmetal is pretty consistent.

I was one of the few that watched the 1999 and loved it. The hunter exam was indeed the most captivating arc because how much psychoanalysis (or the filler) was done. I only got halfway through the series because it was the dialup age and downloading it was hard. So glad that it's gaining recognition with the 2011 remake.

For someone who preaches about having to sit through filler, i nearly switched it off before he ever got to the actual review.
Doesn't sound like a long time to wait, but sure felt like it...
Man the ant arc, second half was awesome but I really had to force myself to get through the first half. It was just really boring and slow to me, it really did feel like a filler arc. However the second half blew me away, didn't expect it to go that route.

It had a purpose: Meleoron used his subordinates to gauge Gon's strength, and it was a pretty creative fight at that, showing how good of a fighter Gon actually is by this point. And even though he was clearly stronger than the both of them, Gon couldn't just rely on brute strength to beat them, their teamwork wouldn't allow it.
A filler fight is something that has no baring on the plot, serves no purpose, and usually has the characters fight in ways we've seen a hundred times by now.

The hunter exam is one of my favourite arcs. I didn't like the cooking part of the exam but all the other parts were pretty original. I liked seeing how the group actually had to use their brains to finish the exam.

Monster was a good anime, but it was never able to maintain it's pace throughout the series.
Like some times in between the shit hits the fan, but everything becomes boring thereafter for a few episodes. It was good, but it had its flaws.

+Max xaM idk man it is my favorite show but it took me two months. begining of chimera dragged a lil for me and i was starting to burn out during greed island. Glad I did to because the second I got back into CA I flew through that shit in 2 days
+Max xaM I marathoned it up to the Chimera ant art. After that point, I had to take some breaks in between episodes every once in a while. Not sure why, but some parts of that arc felt slow, and was a bit of a slog to get through.
+Max xaM I finished all the episodes in 5-7 days if I remember correctly...^^ I had a wisdom teeth excision and wasn't really able to do anything (also not really able to sleep) so all I was was starting HxH and finish it :D

+Kayla Jones my word, its awesome. it has strong, memorable moments you'd never expect to see, its hilarious (unexpected comedy), it has great music, great progress in episodes, but, sometimes while watching, there is a sensation that it has little to no plot. the good part is, as you watch, you regain the plot because it becomes awesome again. it is quiet original.

I raced my friends to see who could watch this show the fastest. I finished it in just 9 days and took second place...Hunter x Hunter is EASILY one of the greatest shows I've ever seen, shounen or otherwise!

gon actually experiences psychological trauma in 1999 ver after chasing hisoka around, in the 2011 he gets over it pretty quickly. i do prefer the 2011 version though.

My main problem with HxH is the first half of the Chimera Ant arc - my GOD, it was such a bore to get through. And as an ant nerd, it hurt me in more ways than I can describe. The second half definitely made up for it, but that first half, UGH.

It was your review that got me watching hunter x hunter last year. It was never on my watchlist before, because I thought it would be boring. Now I just wanted to thank you for introducing me to my all time favorite show! I watched it twice since! Thanks a lot!
Also, I'm not sure why you picked Fairly Tail, because it's perhaps one of the worst shounens in existence. Stereotypical, predictable scenarios, and bullshit "friend powerups" is Fairy Tail's forte. I'm honestly shocked that the author went from Rave Master to this, when RM is far better and more mature. Hell, even Naruto, and Bleach are a lot better than FT. If you're looking for a good shounen to watch I'd recommend Kiba. It's pretty obscure, but it's a pretty good one I think. I have pretty found memories of it, and not all of that can be chalked up to nostalgia, right?
+Glass Reflection OH AND I ALMOST FORGOT. Noragami is an excellent Shounen, and I would argue it's the best, and one of my favorite anime ever. It's still on-going but it's so pleasant to watch. The music, drama, and comedy is handled so well. It's a great balance, when it's light-hearted it's an easy watch, but when it gets serious it's so emotionally compelling. I can't recommend this show enough!
+kashstory Agreed. Some of the decision from the creator in the last few years have just been absurd. Many youtube reviewers have just outright dropped the series because of the constant nakama power ups and seemingly endless victories they get undeservingly.

My theory is that Arkada heard that Fairy Tail is an unbelievably generic shounen anime, but decided to watch it after seeing that there were people who liked it and even loved it regardless of all the stuff the haters hate. So he's watching it to figure it out for himself.
I am probably one of the few people who actually dislikes Hunter X Hunter. I gave it a chance and I finished it, but the only thing I actually liked was the beginning and middle of the Hunter Exam Arc. The rest of HxH for me was a mixed bag and I did not like a lot of the characters; it doesn't help that some of the characters that I do like never appear again after their parts end. The story arcs don't feel like they connect, the world feels like it wants to be too much, and some things just feel completely ridiculous.
And now I wait for the millions of pitchforks for having the unpopular opinion

+akirajotaro I actually am on the same boat. I heard the hype and, with a friend, we decided to watch it in good fun since it was a shonen we could both enjoy. There was so many things that were predictable, cliché or simply uninteresting that we had a really hard time pushing through it. We really wanted to give it a chance and we had a favorite : Kurapika.
He was an interesting character, smart and quite rational while being fiercely passionnate and the arc that focuses on him is actually quite good and hyped us a lot but... the end of his arc is, sorry, but not funny. Sure it was a "LOL" moment in the anime but it only amounted to a "That's it" for us. Hisoka was an over-the-top villain that we liked but... the fact that we were stolen the right to see an epic fight because of the way the scenario was written was just frustrating.
We did watch like 51 episodes out of the 150, so we did give it a fair chance, but Gon was an unlikeable character that was totally uninteresting, with goals that always changed with the winds and truly the sheer stupidity of the character at some point was almost a deal breaker (light spoiler : the fact that he wins his Hunter license by "beaten up for three hours with hits that were enough to break his bones" was simply not enjoyable. There was no stake there since loosing was not the end.)
I could find the long review we did with my friend of the 50 first episodes that explained almost scene by scene for the first few episodes what was annoying for us if you feel it to be even remotely interesting.
+Henri_disap That's one of the few points I liked about HxH, I liked it for being unique, but I didn't like for its story, its settings, its characters, and its inconsistencies. I can understand why people like it, but just because I can understand why, doesn't mean I like it, in fact, some of the reasons why people like it are the reasons why I don't like it.
Strangely enough, people seems to praise Hunter X Hunter for what it is not doing rather on what it is doing. For every cliché HxH doesn't have, there is another issue (or an emphasis on the cliché it does have.)
