Gon is quite possibly the most "learning while he goes" protagonist, Togashi writes him as a literal child who is interested in everything; and has the talent, and restraint to learn from his past mistakes to never do it again or at least avoid. Which, I find fascinating in a Shounen manga. Edit: He also makes sure to punish the kid when he fucks up big time, because of his impetuous nature.
I guess I just think his power is mad boring and inefficient with how much you have too stand still and charge it up. Makes. It feel like his fights had dumb levels of plot armor

By my guess, after he recovers his Nen, he'd have master how to be efficient with everything and just use his physical athleticism, as well as critical thinking in most fights, using his abilities as literal trump cards. Because that's how Togashi has written off all Nen abilities, either they use it because they know they'll kill anyone easily or disable them with it, or they need the power constantly because they can't possibly win without it.
I actually liked the phantom brigade arc / auction house arc (i.e. the arc just before Greed Island) the best. GI showed just how detailed that Togashi can go into world-building - it's almost as if he made a game in his mind and just place it into a manga to introduce it to you - it reminds me of how Tolkien invented a language first and then wrote a fantasy epic for the language to live in.

This was a really great listen to Joey talking about HxH after all these years of peeps hyping it up to him. It would be awesome to hear Joey go into each arc and characters maybe even the power systems talking about his own ability if he had one more in depth. Personally I love the anime and manga but moreso the anime plus the auction house arc is actually called Yorknew City arc then there's also Zoldyck family arc, Heavens Arena, and Election Arc you didn't talk about but hope you talk about them in a later video.
Damn, I didn't know that Togashi has started to write it again. I'm so excited to see the rest of the story, now knowing that Gon's dad is in the story too.

Haven't read it, but finally finished watching HXH this year after the hype in Japan about the new manga release -- one of my favorites! p.s. congrats XD
I put off watching the anime for the longest time, I got 3 sessions but by the time when I went back for the rest, thoes versions were out of print and incredibly expensive. I had to source the latest versions and finally completed the set and went threw and watched the whole thing. I hate pop figures but just found one of Kite and nearly had a brake down to see it and happy to see him get some love. I need to grab the manga too. I really liked the end of the chimera ant saga, so touching and bitter sweet.
I cried when meruem stopped a bunch of birds from hurting komugi and then he proceeded to help her after that😭😭that's one part made me love meruem (it's been a long time since I've read HxH so forgive me if I forgot the tiny details)
Ahhhh I missed anime/manga reviews by Joey. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy his latest content, too, but there's just nothing like the Anime Man rambling about how much he loves a piece of media. ❤
On my 1st watch through of HxH, I didn't think anything could top Yuyu Hakusho. Nothing beats that vintage and dark/raw aesthetic of the 90s for me, but I'm glad I was proven wrong to some extent❤ (I'd imagine the tone is way different in the manga as well)
it's a slowburn in the first part . and is a lot more psychology focused in the middle part. You either like it or don't but it can't be cut without cutting off relevant parts to the story /characters. there are very very filler.
Hunter x Hunter manga is one of the best out there. Unfortunately a lot of people say that the anime is better, but I’m glad you read the manga, because it’s so amazing.
The manga is fantastic, but there are a few standout scenes in the show: when Chrollo composes to Mozart’s requiem in the yorknew city arc, Netero vs Meruem (especially the end of the fight), etc… I think storywise the manga fleshes things out more, but because the music and voice acting is so well done, I personally prefer the atmosphere of the anime

The anime can sometimes feel artificial at times, and the manga is more consistent with its tone and it feels more grounded and dark, which I think fits the story better. I also prefer the art style of the manga compared to the anime, although I think that the anime does interesting stuff in Chimera Ant arc, but the manga for Chimera Ant is one of the best arcs in manga with better pacing, so it’s hard to beat in an adaptation
@@thomasffrench3639 I have to agree with both of you. I LOVE the soundtrack of the whole anime (2011) but the chimera ant arc really shines best in manga. I don't really know why but for me the anime has his peak with GREED Island Arc and then the pacing just comes off. The manga for sure is more consistent with the pacing and shines especially throughout the Chimera Ant Arc. But also all that comes after is just badass. I love the Election Arc's dramaturgy and am really hyped for the Dark Continent Arc.

Everytime i think of the insane breaks Togashi took, i like to remind evertone that Eichiro Oda, in the time it took for Togashi to get chimera ant arc to end, went from Skypiea arc all the way to Fishman island arc.
Examples? I actually think he nearly DOESN'T have a backlog since he had watched or read nearly all the great series. HxH was about the only one pendant that I can think of

Introducing 20character every new chapter with text and what not, killing half of it the next chapter and introduce again 20 new character. HxH things now. Its great, im loving it, lets see what joey thinks about the latest ark, really curious about it.
There are two animes I started and wanted to read the anime. 1) FMA 2) Hunter x Hunter The first I ended up reading the second I found out hasn't been finished and am still watching the anime one episode a week once the Chimera Ant arc started because I don't want to finish it and start the next arc in the manga because I'll end up being another person waiting for ages for new chapters.
Finaly bro, I would still recommend watching the 2011 anime. OST goes hard. The Dark continent arc is so complicated, and it just abruptly stops, so its probably better that you stopped before.
It doesn’t stop, it’s still serializing. And yes, even though the manga is better, the anime is definitely worth watching. But it’s also over 100 episodes, so if you already read it, you may as well watch something else.

Yorknew arc definitely felt much better in the HxH (2011) anime, the OSTs used in that arc was soooo f*cking amazing

I'll never understand why there was so much vengeance. For kite.he wasn't even around that long.
The manga makes more sense because it didn’t skip the first chapter and the references he had throughout the story.
He was a bit of a stand in father figure for Gon, even if it was just briefly. And it was pretty much just Gon who was seriously pissed about it.
My favourite arc is the Chimera Ant Arc too and favourite character I go back and forth with Kurapika and Hisoka.
I'm sitting here, waiting for review of One Piece LA from both Joey and Garnt 😂

Finaly bro, I would still recommend watching the 2011 anime. OST goes hard. The Dark continent arc is so complicated, and it just abruptly stops, so its probably better that you stopped before.
It doesn’t stop, it’s still serializing. And yes, even though the manga is better, the anime is definitely worth watching. But it’s also over 100 episodes, so if you already read it, you may as well watch something else.
i always called it the newyork arc, and the tower arc before that.
