His luck is high but he always get the unlucky outcomes. Well lucky enough to make it pass the crazy stuff his party be going through but always end up in debt.
Personally, I absolutely LOVE the ending song for KonoSuba. It really gives that calm feeling of a sleepy medieval village which I wish more fantasy games and shows would portray. The game to come closest in my opinion is Banished, which is a medieval village management game.
For some reason, out of all the anime I have watched the ending song makes me feel really emotional which I don't understand because there isn't any context for it but its own mellowness seems to get me still and my cold heart usually makes me feel nothing to supposedly cry-worthy moments in other anime so I don't know what's wrong with me.
Just so people don't question the whole "Aqua butt" thing, since we got a lot of that... In Aqua's own words, "she makes her panties invisible so that people don't accidentally see them". Classic Aqua Logic.
+Dizzy Tackson its a culture differents proper girls do not wear work pants it is just not done. (mind set) and yes yes it dieing in japan but is still prevalent
+Dizzy Tackson I think you got that backwards. He wasn't going to do anything until he assumed it was a succubus dream, then just ran with it, and passed off his behaviour as being controlled by the succubus. +dinozero2 True. He doesn't disguise his desires, and actually has a personality beyond "I want to be the strongest and have lots of friends and I'm a really nice guy honest". I'm not even sure I'd call him a harem protagonist in this one, since the girls aren't really jumping his bones like most Scorned Women's Club do.
Dude, the voice acting in this series was absolutely amazing. It has great timing, and so many subtle moments. Also, there's one track out of the OST that I really want. Watch, I think, episode 4 where Megumin and Kazuma go and spam explosions at a castle. During that sequence, the music is just great.
SuluX How could I not? My favorite small moment is her very small "bleh" during the opening of episode 6. Verdia comes back complaining about explosions after she promised not to attack him anymore. Everything else, obviously, is of legendary level of performance. I don't always just gobble up an entire character based only on his/her VA's performance, but Takahashi Rie's performance here made me fall in love. Too bad I'm not into Re:Zero at all so I won't get to enjoy her performance this season.
Lam Alfie I just never heard of the series before this season. Art style didn't grab me either. Might give it a go at some point. PS: Not sure if I'm not into dark fantasy seeing how I read Berserk :P
Michael Bay: "We start by making a big CG building and then we have a meteor go CROSSHH! And it, and it's all like CRAAWW a-and motorcycles burst into flame while they jump over these helicopters, right?" Michael Bay: "An eighteen-wheeler spins out of control and it's all like BROSSHH! And then this huuuge tanker full of dynamite - CRRSHGHGHHG!" from General: "Those aren't ideas, those are special effects!" Michael Bay: "I... don't understand the difference."
The reason there were only 10 episodes is because NOBODY expected anything from the show when it first started. It was a show done by DEEN and had very inexperienced seiyuus. This show should not have been as popular as it was. They didn't realize the huge following the show would get until I'd say episode 3, and by that point, it's too late to make more episodes.
Gigguk put it best, when he said that it was the "Sleeper Hit" of the Winter 2016 season. Boy am I sad that I waited until now to watch it, except I'm glad because I didn't have to wait a year for season 2.
Are you sure it's not Darkness? She seems to be the one set up to be with Kazuma if anyone is with Kazuma. Aqua lost her heroine status for good in the first OVA. Megumin is adorable, but too young and more of a party member than a shared main character role.
The strange thing is that I found that Aqua nicely mellowed out by the end. Every time she did the annoying "I am a great goddess", she got rightfully slapped in the face the next scene, and I felt a kind of sadistic pleasure from her misery... It can't be just me right? Megumin is the greatest.. Especially the thing with the castle... I was laughing my ass off the whole of that scene when the boss comes back to the castle for the second time.. xD
Dargin Dox I also love how Darkness some how managed to make even a commander of the devil kings army get totally embarrassed and all "WTF?" the character interaction between all three of them with the Dullahan was hilarious. never seen a boss fight go that way before.
"And because Kazuma actually has some asshole tendencies..." Uh, no. He picked Aqua because she heartlessly mocked him for the way he died, laughed at him, and kept pestering him to choose his weapon/ability/whatever while making it clear she regarded him as little more than a gnat.
3 years late but yes Aqua used her points on partly favor magic but remember she also already has a lot of other magic. She can heal, she purify, she can use turn undead, her water magic goes as high as flood class,She can remove curses, revive the dead. I think she has all the wiggle room she wants to get skills she finds fun. In the group she's the most versatile.
MWhaleK I say the Goddess from cautious hero is a useless Godess. She only good for healing. Aqua has her fluats but atleast she’s not afraid to attack Demon lord generals and is able to cause them damage. Cautious hero Goddess was like oh hell no when one appeared
Wiz really.... really needed a character, but i thought aqua being annoying was oddly enjoyable, its her fault she gets into debt and she is always in trouble for it.
This anime was legitimately funny as fuck. From Megumin and her quirkiness, to the subtle "Yes I'm Kazuma" lines thrown in some of the episodes were just fucking great.
+Troy Eason Whats Rakugo about? I never heard of it... though generally I'm not the type of person to watch like 20 anime in a season(heck, sometimes I might not even watch 20 anime in a year since I watch anime when I want to, not because I feel I have to).
+Glass Reflection i would just wait for the second season to do the entire show in a review. But doing one season at a time might also be good as well cause their probably gonna be quite different
I'm surprised that Arkada thought the ending was skippable. Maybe because I watched half the show weekly but the ending always left me with this sappy fuzzy fuzzy warmness feeling at the end of the episodes. It sort of captured the appeal of the show and made my experience a lot better.
Being a person who watched it weekly, I disagree with you on the ED. It's good to wind down after a good comedy with somthing relaxing. Enjoying it depends on how you watch it.
As long as its not Yoko Kanno or some soundtrack like the original Hellsing, he does not seem to notice anything in particular regarding music in general.
Did anyone notice about Aqua not wearing anything beneath her skirt? It took Tristan's review made me realize it. O_O (theres a 4koma somewhere that explains that)
If for whatever reason you still don't know, it's because Aqua made her panties invisible so that no one can see it if they happen to see underneath her skirt...
I cant wait for the second season its coming in january so hey you konosuba fan don't give up there are plenty of more gags to come! Also I absolutely love how Kazuma responds when someone yells Kazuma im so gonna use that
5:37 I was just about to comment about how when some characters are having s monologue he just begins speaking what's on his mind under their voice, I have personally never seen this type of comedy or skit whatever you wanna call it, but I find it hilarious and one of the reasons I love this anime so much
First off, the ED is AMAZING! You can't skip to the next episode without listening to Megumin sing to you man! A comment from one of the ED videos sums it up best. @Die Putro: "Opening Song: Let's go crazy. Anime: This is SO CRAZY. Ending Song: The craziness has ended, let's relax. "
whenever I type in (anime name here) review and your page pops up I get stupid happy. out off all the anime reviewers you are the only channel I enjoy and take advice from lol
The one thing that steals my sleep, is all the possible outcomes to which way Konosuba's story is heading. 1) we know that Kazuma died at the begining; what about his 'body'? Will there ever come a time we get to see what happened and how his parents reacted etc. and will Kazuma ever think of that?? I don't think Aqua was being serious when explaining his death to him and something else happened or was going to.. 2) Its only my imagination but what if Megamin and Kazuma are same people from different universe or something like that? Or what if all 4 are same one? 3) and speaking of that, what if they all are online gamers but from diffrent universe (or whatever) or just normal human beings like Kazuma? Because in the end Konosuba is very much like playing a RPG game with friends; 1 who is total useless or rager and screams all the time, one who is way to into roleplay of his/her charecter, one who loves the pain of hard games or the one who always cracks jokes(speacially sexual)
I loved Konosuba, and am expecting great things for season 2. And yes, Aqua is by far the worst part of the show, and makes tyou realize that Kazuma made a poor choice in taking her, though it was hilarious to see her bawl her eyes out for like, a minute straight.
You should do a First Reaction to the anime Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu. It's a great show because it's like Groundhog's Dog and Edge Of Tomorrow where the main character starts the day over every time he dies!
Due to my recent and permanent dip into DnD and Pathfinder, I can appreciate this anime, an review, at the much higher level. Thank you for being such a big nerd; a big, lovable nerd who probably needs to get out more (other than going to Friday Night Magic or your Homebrew DnD campaign where your brother made Predator the boss and one of the player's is a massively bluffing bear, and another was a grapple happy Luchador).
I really miss these reviews there was a time glass reflection was my favorite youtube channel some 6 years ago. I'm re watching a bunch in my attempt to pick a Playlist of anime because my wife said she wants to watch a few with me. These are helping to sort out my lists
SideShot while Megumin had more character development in the first season, I'd also say that Darkness is bae. nothing against Megumin, I like her too, but there is more magic-girl/sorceress lolis in anime than you can shake a stick at. and if you want a chuunibyou there is literally an entire anime based around that. Darkness on the other hand, is something new to me.
This was definitely the surprise of the season. I did not expect this to be one of my favorites of the season. The one thing I can't agree on with this review is the music: While it wasn't by any means amazing, I think it was above average, with songs like Darkness's theme fitting really well into the mood. Plus the ed felt like a parody of its own show.
Basically agree with your take on this one. I didn't even plan to pick it up coming into the winter, and it ended up being one of my favorite shows of the season. I think the short initial episode count and hasty season 2 announcement was because this show did tons better than they expected it to. In Japan it's been the best selling TV series of the winter season by a landslide - the first volume sold over 12,000 discs, more than twice as many as the next-best seller, Grimgar. A few fun facts: * All or nearly all of Megumin's explosions in the series were drawn by the same key animator * For episode 9, which had both the loosest animation and floppiest breasts in the series, the episode director was Koichi Kikuta, and those two things are both very much part of his particular animation style * Maaya Uchida (who voiced Rikka in Chunibyo) voiced Megumin in the Drama CD, though not in the series itself
I don't speak japanese but I loved hearing Kasuma's replies, like the "kasuma des" Ark included in the video. The indifferent yet annoyed voice always got a laugh out of me. hai hai kasuma des :3
"Megumin best girl" You sir have earned a sub! ... Kidding. I'm not as shallow as that for subs, but honestly I watched some of your other reviews and was left impressed; you actually got me interested in some series I would have otherwise passed off. This sub was earned for the effort you do, not for Megumin (partially anways). Keep up the good work.
+Trades46 While opinions do differentiate on some shows, I still follow Tristan because I feel he always gives the show a fair run...Even if I'm on the side that likes SAO and Dislikes AoT and similar other disagreements. I do feel He gives decent reasons for liking or disliking elements of shows rather then just saying...It was bad because it was Sword Art Online or something equally as thoughtless.
KonoSuba is the guilty pleasure of the Winter '16 season. You know it has failures, you know that some parts make you yell "Why!?" (mostly with Aqua) but at the end, you enjoyed the most parts of the show. The Succubi episode had me laughing almost all the time. Looking forward for that 2nd season and YES! Megumin best girl! :D you earned my brofist Ark xD
I always watched the ending for the show. I really liked the song, and the tilt shift effect was really nicely done. Do you have any news for an Oregairu season 2 review? You did the first season in the review week of awesome and loved it, and if you liked the first season you'll love the second season.
To me it was he unexpected jem of the season. I wrote it off based on looks alone until, having nothing else to do, decided to watch it (rest of season wasn't that good) and it exploded my expectations. Love this show, and I'm so proud that it did financially well enough to warrant a second season.
Great anime lol. The funny part is, this didn't have intentions of becoming much. Yet it got such a huge following and almost forced itself into a new story haha. I think the shows characters are great. It's a comedy, yet has a great story to go with it. Which is what drew me towards it. As for season 2, I hope it doesn't lose its luster. Animes tend to do that but with the story, I feel, kind of just beginning I think that the second season will be interesting. Thanks for the review!!
What? No mention about the refreshingly awesome pragmatism Kazuma repeatedly displays? I like to imagine he's playing a tabletop game, while the rest of them are in a Final Fantasy-esque RPG with how they act. From easily scaring off some fangirls to his pre-emptive attack on mister cursed-sword, he easily made the show that much more awesome because of it.
There were very few anime, with the exception of some second seasons, that I really enjoyed last season. The exceptions to this were Konosuba and She and Her Cat: Everything Flows. One made me laugh until I cried, the other just made me cry.
You know, when i watched it had the feeling as if they took 10 episodes cause they wanted to be meta and break the format cause they are a parody anime. Idk that was the feeling I got even though the time skip was uncalled for
I strongly recommend checking out Akatsuki no Yona, if you haven't already seen it. Amazing plot, awesome character development, and a legit historical element to it. It's one of my favorite series, so I just wonder what your take on it would be.
I really loved Konosuba. The synopsis may sound like your typical cut and paste "male protagonist thrown into an mmorpg style world surrounded by girls" comedy, but it really has something special. It's overall a really fun anime to watch and the voice acting made me fall in love the characters. So excited for the second season!
+Shatadhi Dutta I thought Grimgar would be amazing, when they put a focus on monsters being "living creatures" which gave death such an impact, but at the end all I could say it was boring and forgettable.
I could not disagree more. I had no expectations, and the character development left me completely satisfied. I am a fan of slow, character driven stories and Grimgar is one of the best on that aspect. Fights carry weight and have meaning too, with each character developing with every battle, in strength and personality. But, I will say, it's not for everyone. I can say for myself, I had a blast, and definitely wont forget it anytime soon. :P
Gianinni Vieira That's cool man, not saying your opinion is wrong, just what you said you got, is exactly what I felt I didn't get. To me the best scenes were stuff like the Goblins playing Chess (subtle stuff that shows there's more to them). All the human development felt like forced drama and long winded talks to save animation time, without the characters actually getting better, except maybe Mary. I also thought Yume would be something then she vanished, after the crying scene, main guy then spends all his time with Mary, then at the end Ranta actually likes Yume. It just...fizzled for me, if that makes sense.
The phrase "EXPLOSION!!!" never got old in the span of the series. 7:00 Also the face they always make when they're fed up about something never failed to crack me up.
im very happy you are making more regular videos, you manage to think what i like to think as the Burnout/Lifeout pit of Oblivion and "Suffering" of RUclips content making :)
"He's trying form a decent adventuring party with a stage magician, a one-trick pony, and a masochist."
The line that sold me on this series.
Yup... my standard GURPS RPG party... + talking cat as the main DPS (if he is angry enough)... :D
Honestly all of the characters are assholes and I love them.
The characters are a-holes and idiots, the show is 100% utter trash, the animation is "normal" or "average," it's from an over-done, over-used, and over-baked genre that has completely run its course, and it has too short of an episode run.
AND I EFFING LOVE IT. 13/10, would watch again!
The "It's Always Sunny..." of anime...
"It's like seinfeld but with cute animu girls in a fantasy RPG setting!"
CPD0123a 13/10 because
It should have gotten 13
But it only got 10
You’ll probably love Gintama since it’s filled with insults

5:37 I was just about to comment about how when some characters are having s monologue he just begins speaking what's on his mind under their voice, I have personally never seen this type of comedy or skit whatever you wanna call it, but I find it hilarious and one of the reasons I love this anime so much
megumin, without a single doubt, is the best character
Woah Arkada sharing my opinion on a show?! what's this sorcery?!
EXPLOSION!!!
Yeah.. I had a blast with konosuba. It's good to see many people got blown away like I did
+TheSimom explosion
+TheSimom
THE BALANCE IS SHIFTING!
WHATS NEXT?! MEGUMIN LEARNING A NEW SKILL?!
+Snicker Snacker *Season 2 starts* -Hey, i learned a new skill!
-Oh, cool, what is it?
-Mega Explosion.
i loved the ending song its really relaxing gives the show an atmospheric nature to it
I know!!! Love it so much.
It suits the show too, because it's light hearted
First off, the ED is AMAZING! You can't skip to the next episode without listening to Megumin sing to you man!
A comment from one of the ED videos sums it up best.
@Die Putro:
"Opening Song: Let's go crazy.
Anime: This is SO CRAZY.
Ending Song: The craziness has ended, let's relax.
"
5:35 That alone get's this video a 10/10 from me.
whenever I type in (anime name here) review and your page pops up I get stupid happy.
out off all the anime reviewers you are the only channel I enjoy and take advice from lol
I..... I... liiik... I like Aqua -_-
+bulldog micro I agree, she is more of a ditz than anything else. I do not feel she does things to be mean on purpose.
Me too even for the lower kind of lols. I like it.
I think her best part is the whole cage thing wheres she refuses to get out.
Me too, and also liked the opening quite a bit. No idea why people didnt liked either apparently.
+EclipseOfGod
i only really liked the head tilting part.
I love that little message that he put in there on the side
Darkness is best masochist.
Thankfully, second season is coming up!
I loved Konosuba and I cant wait for season 2.
Nah, Aqua is fun, seeing her suffer is sustenance for my soul.
Megumin is by far the best part of the show tho, followed by kazuma himself.
One day I will hear the intro sound and not expect Roundabout to start playing
Arakada will you ever review the anime Ajin? It would be pretty interesting as I'd like to hear your viewpoint on 3-D anime as a medium overall.
I really miss these reviews there was a time glass reflection was my favorite youtube channel some 6 years ago. I'm re watching a bunch in my attempt to pick a Playlist of anime because my wife said she wants to watch a few with me. These are helping to sort out my lists
Speaking of masochists, are you gonna review Prison School?
+TheKevMcC Wow, you have not been brainwashed at all.
+TMadara One of the best last year and funny, funny stuff. Just my opinion though.
Darkness is better than megumin *runs away*
darkness is best girl
SideShot Yes, Darkness is best girl.
SideShot fiinaly someone who agrees
SideShot while Megumin had more character development in the first season, I'd also say that Darkness is bae. nothing against Megumin, I like her too, but there is more magic-girl/sorceress lolis in anime than you can shake a stick at. and if you want a chuunibyou there is literally an entire anime based around that. Darkness on the other hand, is something new to me.
Same
Kazuma desu. OMG totally got me there.
I agree with this review. Give it time and someone may release it stateside.
hai hai kazuma desu
This was definitely the surprise of the season. I did not expect this to be one of my favorites of the season. The one thing I can't agree on with this review is the music: While it wasn't by any means amazing, I think it was above average, with songs like Darkness's theme fitting really well into the mood. Plus the ed felt like a parody of its own show.
Dies of shock of thinking he got run over lol wtf
Basically agree with your take on this one. I didn't even plan to pick it up coming into the winter, and it ended up being one of my favorite shows of the season. I think the short initial episode count and hasty season 2 announcement was because this show did tons better than they expected it to. In Japan it's been the best selling TV series of the winter season by a landslide - the first volume sold over 12,000 discs, more than twice as many as the next-best seller, Grimgar.
A few fun facts:
* All or nearly all of Megumin's explosions in the series were drawn by the same key animator
* For episode 9, which had both the loosest animation and floppiest breasts in the series, the episode director was Koichi Kikuta, and those two things are both very much part of his particular animation style
* Maaya Uchida (who voiced Rikka in Chunibyo) voiced Megumin in the Drama CD, though not in the series itself
Please review Space Dandy because it is my one of my favorite anime series
The "I'm Kazuma" at 5:36 kills me every time XD
Aqua gets worse? Christ.
I don't speak japanese but I loved hearing Kasuma's replies, like the "kasuma des" Ark included in the video. The indifferent yet annoyed voice always got a laugh out of me.
hai hai kasuma des :3
Fools. Chomusuke is clearly best girl.
Already expecting Concrete Revo's both seasons review at the end of this season, it'll be great :3
Yes yes i am Kazuma
+Cynist
Have yet to find an anime to beat this joke :D
"Megumin best girl"
You sir have earned a sub!
...
Kidding. I'm not as shallow as that for subs, but honestly I watched some of your other reviews and was left impressed; you actually got me interested in some series I would have otherwise passed off. This sub was earned for the effort you do, not for Megumin (partially anways). Keep up the good work.
+Trades46
While opinions do differentiate on some shows, I still follow Tristan because I feel he always gives the show a fair run...Even if I'm on the side that likes SAO and Dislikes AoT and similar other disagreements. I do feel He gives decent reasons for liking or disliking elements of shows rather then just saying...It was bad because it was Sword Art Online or something equally as thoughtless.
I disagree about the ending theme. I love it. got a bit of feels to it for me, even though it reminded me that the show was going nowhere -_-
KonoSuba is the guilty pleasure of the Winter '16 season.
This and Shouwa were my favorite last season.
1. Ajin
2. Kono suba
3. Erased
+joelstl15 same and they're both getting second seasons!
+Dizzy Tackson wut
***** I sort of see the resemblance but it's a ridiculously large stretch to claim that they stole her.
***** Which character?
I always watched the ending for the show. I really liked the song, and the tilt shift effect was really nicely done.
Do you have any news for an Oregairu season 2 review? You did the first season in the review week of awesome and loved it, and if you liked the first season you'll love the second season.
Literally anyone in Kazuma's "harem": KAZUMA-SAN!
Kazuma: Hai hai, Kazuma desu.
I laugh every time haha.
To me it was he unexpected jem of the season. I wrote it off based on looks alone until, having nothing else to do, decided to watch it (rest of season wasn't that good) and it exploded my expectations.
Love this show, and I'm so proud that it did financially well enough to warrant a second season.
I have news from the future: there's a movie and a second season
I can confirm. I have news from the future. There's a third season
I feel like you didn't give the opening and outro songs enough credit other that that pretty good.
"yes im kazuma" is also pretty good
Megumin is best bait thumbnail explosion girl.
God's blessing on this wonderful world.
what a wonderful name.
Tristan, have you seen Grimgar? I'd like to see a GR on it!
+Shatadhi Dutta same
yeah I want to see that.
Hey Arkada, can you do a First Reaction to My Hero Academia. I hear you love that One Punch guy.
im very happy you are making more regular videos, you manage to think what i like to think as the Burnout/Lifeout pit of Oblivion and "Suffering" of RUclips content making :)
+Dren MAH FUCKING GRAMMAR EXPURIENCE, google let me edit! it hurts!
Review:
Contains Megumin.
Megumin a best.
11/10.
Q.E.D.
The music when Megumin uses her magic is surprisingly good...
will gintama ever be done
at least the movie
i frustrated that it only got 10 episode, but at least it will get a second season.
Megumin - MAX Atk
Darkness - MAX Def
Aqua - MAX Stats
Kazuma - MAX luck
actually in the credits they say that there is going to be a second season.
He mentioned that.
+G_Spark233 yeah I commented before I watched the whole thing.
I don't know I actually liked Aqua the most out of the characters, then again it might be due to the VA's amazing work in the comedic moments.
+Gabriel Carrasco Me too, I did not knew there was a lot of people who actually dislike her....
