The brilliance of this show is that, rather than sticking the main character with a bunch of girls that he doesn't deserve, Kazuma is given a "harem" of girls that are exactly what he deserves.

You missed a very important point, no matter how bad these girls are, they will do anything for their friends. Dont believe me? Look up that OVA where they desperately try to save kazuma from dying by fulfilling his wish. And, when they realise that kazuma's true wish was just to be with them they just kill him again in the funniest ways and revive him later. They deeply love and care about them.
They are like the four best friends who can be the absolute jerks in front of each other, fuck with you at every step just for their fun. But, when it really counts, they wont hesitate to throw their life on the line for their friends. I could go on a lot to defend them but then it will become too long. But, i think that they are just these assholes because we are all assholes in front of our bestfriends.

- She rich
- She intelligent (at least far more so than Aqua or Megumin)
- She nice (she isn't a bratty child or bratty godess)
- She selfless (even if it's usually for the wrong reasons)
Her only real flaws are being a tad suicidal and too kinky for her own good

Megumin is clearly smarter than Darkness. She's like the 2nd smartest character in the group because she can be manipulative nearly at the same level as Kazuma.
I always have aproblem with calling Aqua useless, even if high maintenance and a nuisance, you start your adventure with a lv:100 character and infinite revives.

I remember going through doki doki literature club and monika openly stating that she is baffled as to why the player still likes the others even if she tried so much to make them insufferable and unlikable. the girls of konosuba have the same charm as the overly tropey and somewhat predictable girls of doki doki simply because their traits, likeable or not, feel more real than the others.

Wiz is best girl. I'll die on this hill. Her personality blends well with her not being able to run a shop well. Plus she does her absolute best to help people but makes situations worse in doing so. Her intentions are so pure and I love her for it! It also helps that she doesn't have a downside as bad as the main three girls.

I honestly felt that. I hate it when people try to hide their rough edges and pretend to be more “cute” or “cool” than they actually are
My personal favorite is darkness, but I think one of the other appeals of konosuba that people don’t talk about is the fact that we get shown all of the girls in wide variety of clothing and styles. Most other waifus only ever have like one or 2 outfits they’ll ever wear for a whole series, with some shows drawing attention to it when they have the “casual clothes” date. Aqua, megumin, and darkness have a large array of clothes we’ve seen them in so it makes us feel like we know them better. I mean, one of my favorite things about Konosuba is the bra-less nightgowns they all wear at night and how they’re all animated. Name one other show that shows their waifus bra-less in a way that they don’t even mention it, you can just SEE it.
A hormonal teenager, A goddess with a drinking problem and a bratty attitude, An underaged mostly sane girl compared to the others, and a woman who's into BDSM. A perfect crew for the protagonist!

I'd just like to say the following:
Everyone in Kazuma's party, even him, are all min-maxers to varying levels of effectiveness.
Think about it:
Darkness, a tank who completely ruined her damage output to tank better.
Megumin, a dps who figured she wouldn't need to use other attacks if she made a big enough kaboom.
Aqua, who took a pile of personality flaws and tanked luck/intelligence to gain access to the intended-for-NPC "Deity" race and its perks.
And Kazuma, who buffed up luck to its max and grabbed the adventurer class so he can grab luck-based skills from a variety of different sources, then grabbed whatever other skills were around to fill out any weakpoints he and his party had.
In conclusion, Kazuma's party (there has to be a better name for that. the Konogroup-up, maybe?) is a group of tabletop rpg players who completely cheesed their characters, whilst the DM continually tries and fails to kill them. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Being flawed doesn't make a character bad, it makes them relatable. Like Falstaff in Shakespeare, it's a character's flaws that drive the story and make them entertaining. A flawless, idealized "Mary-Sue" is the epitome of bad writing, and a flawless, impassive friend or partner in real life is *invariably* one who is putting up a front, and won't ever show any vulnerability or authenticity in your relationship.

That clip at the end has got to be one of my favorite scenes in konosuba. The sheer joy in Darkness's face as everyone else is just resigned and depressed over the fact that they need to be blown up to proceed is so hilarious.

Also, one of my favorite parts of the light novel was when someone from a normal party was talking shit on Kazuma so they swapped for a day and the dude came back traumatized and his party was unsure about giving up Kazuma because he was so useful.

Being a female, i honestly love these girls, because, even if they are the worst people possible, and darkness masochism makes me really unconfortable, they have personality and they're there for a reason, they're great female characters and they're hilarious
Aside from the waifu argument, the team completely lampoons RPGs parties. Aqua is a goddess/arch-priestess, by RPG logic she’s supposed to be the most useful and effective support member, yet most of the time she’s completely useless. Megumi is an arch-mage, she supposed to have a wide array of powerful spells and be the party’s artillery; she only uses one spell and it can be used once a day, after that she’s completely drained. Darkness, the paladin that’s sworn to protect the weak from all dangers, yeah she’s actually a masochist who can’t get enough of taking damage. Kazuma, a panty-stealing asshole who takes every opportunity he can to be a pervert, essentially, a brutally honest depiction of an RPG player.
Darkness's ideal husband sounds just like what Kazuma would do.

I didn't strike gold when I found konosuba, I founding freaking diamonds. I can't even express the amount of love I have for this show but I haven't found a single show that fills the gap this show left.

the best moment to represent this video is when Kazuma got his head sliced off by the snow samurai and started lamenting after explaining all the shit he went through only to feel sad if he were to leave the girls, and then was brought back to life by Aqua blackmailing Aris about padding her chest
only to come back to Darkness and Megumin giving Kazuma hug caused they missed him............(for some reason)
perfect moment in the series to best represent this video
Second best moment: Kazuma's death and resurrection dealing with the Lizard runners. Dies a stupid death, decides he wants a bit of peace and quiet, gets forced into returning because *SOMEONE* was doing something to his body. Later finds out what it was and wants to kill them. They don't want him to leave and will go to VERY SERIOUS extremes to make sure he keeps coming back. They know that without him they are in trouble (he IS the only one with a sense of progression after all. Megumin and Darkness don't particularly have a goal in mind beyond explode things and get assaulted, and Aqua needs him to get her back to her realm) but they also know he often dislikes working with them because of their own idiosyncrasies.
Megumin is the beat character no doubt shes just unbeliveble cute and her pesonality is wierd but its also pretty alr sometimes

Having just watched the show. I think Aqua ends up being the funniest. The other two end up repeating the same joke a lot of the time, but Aqua is delightfully stupid in so many new and interesting ways.
I love Wiz, she's so kind and cute🥺 and Aqua has such lovely and unique hair. All of them have so much personality which makes them so likeable

Konosuba is a masterpiece ( my personal opinion). The funniest isekai that I have ver watched in my life till now. I'm going to be really sad when it ends. Seeing Kazuma, Aqua, Megumin and Darkness being together seams fun to watch.
Megumin is my favorite. I just love the Crimson Demons in general and she embodies their main ideals of looking cool and using powerful magic. She can be very wholesome and does truely care for people, especially her friends and family. Plus she has a pet dark god cat. They also managed to never make explosion boring. Her taking down strong foes with it always looks amazing, but honestly some of the best are when weak enemies get smited like the toad in the first explosion of S1. The rest of the main cast are all great fun too. Konosuba does such a good job at making you love these misfits.

Actually, most useless would go to Darkness. This becomes more obvious in the later volumes of the LN, to the point where the entire party literally pokes fun at how little she usually contributes.
Aqua's personality and general attitude are what's holding her down but if you look at what she actually has done, she clearly proves she isn't useless at all.
She's can revive people from the dead like it is nothing(Dullahan fight). Her magic is strong enough to pierce strong magical barriers (Mobile Fortress Destroyer). She can summon a tsunami out of thin air (Dullahan fight). Her purification magic can severely harm undead (Lichs are one of the strongest types of undead but Aqua can put Wiz in a life threatening state just by holding her hand for a few seconds.) and even water just by touching it. And that's not even considering some of her later feats in the LNs.
You gotta feel bad for darkness, she’s probably the only character that gets a weird closet pervert but he’s just too incompetent to do anything lmao.
Best girl is Kazuma. Hands down.

I mean, I'm kinda there with you. I don't really get into the waifu craze either, or the best girl debates, but I feel like this video really does explain it really well. Especially why the konosuba girls are kinda an exception to that tendency. Basically just that, their personalities just feel especially real.

Megumin best girl - Her explosive personality and short temper are for some reason really striking me and the her whole deal of being the "best mage" and "foremost prodigy" are really entertaining, i also enjoy how she doesn't show what she feels a lot of the time (like denying the reasons for not sleeping while Kazuma was at the capital). Her character design is also really fun to me, I enjoy the clothes that she wears and the shorter hair and red eyes really give her a lot more of a unique look among the main cast. I also absolutely adore how obsessed and set on explosion magic she is but it's also good to know that if she had to she would have learned advanced magic. She's just a really well thought out and designed character which landed as my favorite fictional character while watching season 1 and stayed there.

I'm a big Yunyun fan myself.
The fact is, the three main girls seem more like family than someone to go on a date with. They're definitely very lovable, but mostly in a playful way.
Yunyun, on the other hand...
She undeniably has physical attractiveness, and her friendship with Megumin is quite endearing. Her shyness is very cute, if you like that kind of thing, but she can also be intent on the things that really matter to her. Plus, she's actually very competent at magic and is able to get things done. She is intelligent, but can also care deeply for the people close to her (if they aren't scared off first, though unintentionally). She may struggle to make friends, but for me, that just causes me to empathize with her more strongly. Yunyun is capable of love, and deserving of protection.
For these reasons, Yunyun is best girl in "Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku Wo!". Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I think the outro music is also an important factor in how beloved the Konosuba girls are. You have to go through a whole episode of the cast's ridiculous antics, but at the end you are met with a cozy little song sung to you by the girl's themselves which drives the point of how while they might all be just well... the worst, they're still all friends and they'll be there for each other. In a way it can be seen as an exaggeration of normal friendships and how everyone has their quirks and shortcomings, but true friends will still love you in spite of that, or even because of it.
I mean, yeah, but nothing is better than drunk Kazuma singing the outro.

It's amazing how they got all these crazy characters fitting together like a pair of gloves. It's just like Seinfeld with their crazy characters. I am surprised Konosuba had not come out with more episodes.
You touched upon the fakeness aspect in the video, and I think that's mostly why people enjoy these characters. They don't really feel like characters, but like actual people with tangible flaws, which is pretty rare.
When you meet people in real life, most, if not all of them, are carrying around some kind of horrible baggage that you might end up knowing about or not, but which will always be there. And with time, you can pick up which people are willing to share those things in order to be accepted for who they are, and which are willing to perpetuate a persona because they're either assholes or are so traumatized by something that they feel like they could never do that without some kind of perceived horrible consequences.
Say what you will of the three girls, but none of them can be faulted for holding back some aspect of their personality when around Kazuma, and the same goes for him too. It might come off as some kind of deconstructed harem (and I know the doujinshis aren't helping either), but it feels a lot more like a bunch of messed-up friends having adventures together.
It's gonna sound stupid, but it seems like one of its better successors in recent times was Interspecies Reviewers, except there it's more obvious what with literally having a bunch of bros doing bro things.
