yep im in the same boat, but you can just link this video to people who havent seen the show. Just spam this video to all your friends , im sure 1/20 will prob give it a try.
sleepofgiants Hell no it really went down hill for me in the ant arc I think it’s overrated asf the narrator had me going crazy idk why they have to over explain everything
M just commenting for the fans of HxH to tell me should i watch the series (1999) first...?! Or do i directly start with (2011)... Cuz asking Google is pointless... When u can reach fans directly....
The former is the cooler The latter is meaner actually no the first one is cruel and the second is brutal i cant tell anymore which of these make it cool
Eldergaming1 I have a bit of a story related to that. I was a huge, huge fan of the 1999 anime and then started reading the manga, quite a bit before the 2011 anime came out- so I was surprised and excited to have an excuse to consume more HxH stuff. But when it got to the fight and Killua *didn't* crush his heart, I stopped watching for awhile, because I thought they were pussying out by taking out the gore. It honestly nearly ruined it for me. However, when I read a comment later, it changed my view entirely. Basically the comment said, it makes the action more ironic (and I suppose you could say more cruel) because he just packages up a *dude's heart* in a neat little thing, and when he asks for it back, Killua does give it back- obv fat lot of good it does for the guy by that point, but he does *give it back*. So now I appreciate the more subtle interpretation; it doesn't have the same visceral impact as the original depiction, but it involves more thought and is worth it in its own way.
This was my boyfriends favorite anime of all time. I saw it for the first time last month with him before he passed away, so it’ll always have a special place in my heart.
@Original Both versions are pretty good, but if you want to more ''complete'' story, I'd advise you start with the 2011 one (it stops two arcs later than the 1999 adaptation, and the ''end'' of the show can almost pass for a real ending). Now, the 1999 version adds filler scenes/episodes, some of which are quite nice, but it can also slow down the pace a bit (as it does, with fillers). That being said, if you prefer the more early animation style and don't want to miss on some added content, you can always watch the 1999 version and the Greed Island OVA adaptation , and then switch back with the 2011 version for the Chimera Ant arc. (If you watch the 2011 anime though, I'd recommend you check out episodes 18, 19 and 20 from the 1999 anime as a ''bonus'' ; it's only filler, but there are some gems well worth a look.) Either way, hope you'll enjoy it !
@@somerando8201 or you could watch the 1st episode of the 1999 hxh and then go 2011 from there on since the first episode of the 2011 version begins after the end of the 1st episode of the 1999 version

Not to mention that first impression, where they seem like good kids, then there is selfish Leorio; then it turns out they're all sociopaths and Leorio is the only one with a shred of conscience among them.
None of them are fucking sociopaths you clown. Do you even know what a sociopath is? They're just 4 good natured kids, some of them had a shitty upbringing, that's it lmao
Uhhh wow people missed your point. I didn’t realize it til I read this comment but you’re right. Leorio goes out of his way to portray himself as selfish in the beginning of the series. And even as it goes on he doesn’t understand when his friends won’t consider their own needs over the needs of others, especially when those are people he believes don’t deserve consideration. But as the series goes on, he doesn’t completely lose his shit like all three of the other main characters do. I mean their shit left the planet and all realms of existence as we know it. That’s especially jarring when it happens to Gon but by golly it happens to Gon of all people! However I haven’t read the manga so I don’t know if Leorio has some traumatic story arc later on, but as far as I know from the anime, he’s a pretty consistent character.
The creator of hunter x hunter/ yu yu hakusho is married to the creator of Sailor moon. Their kids are going to have to create the greatest anime of all time in order to live up to that kind of legacy.
Love how in HunterxHunter, Leorio was deemed the selfish rude person nobody would like at the beginning, but at the end, he's the only sane person that everyone loves. Amazing writing if you ask me.
(sorry for my bad english) because in the 2011 anime adaptation they make leorio a little selfish and kind of weak but in the 1999 adaptation or in the manga i think in the hunter exam arc he was a goofy Character but he was more calm (not calm actually) but kinda cooler and more relatable and the filler in the episode 7 (little spoiler) was absolutely amazing and makes you to relate to leorio (it was about leorio) but at least they kinda expiate in the last arc but still i like the 1999 version of leorio more I suggest you guys to check the 1999 version episode 2 x 7 are fillers but they connected to the story Really well specially the episode 7 and it has a darker tone and more mature Characters(not all of them) specially the youknew arc and kurapika
The chimera ant arc is something that will haunt my life forever, I can't even watch the last episode of that arc without crying a lot. HxH was such a surprise.
That arc was just so intense emotionally and it kept getting more intense as it went on. There was a point where I was just overwhelmed by it all especially gon. his change was so dramatic that he felt like killua when he "flipped his switch" in certain situations.
I often find myself thinking "I want to go back and watch the exam arc, but the tower arc is such a good introduction so I'll rewatch that too, but the Yorknew city arc is the intro to the troupe and I love them" then that spirals into wanting to rewatch the whole show
this week, I wanted to go read the bomber reveal in the Greed Island arc, and I ended up reading the whole arc and now going back to read the whole series from the beginning
@@BigfootUnibrowMan Hey, remember the Rule of Aura-Reduction-per-Distance? And remember Kurapika sticking a Conjured Chain into Chrollo and never worrying about that Rule? I love that the most OP character, the most DBZ villain character, ends the way this does. Again, complete subversion of expectations. He and Gon follow an opposite, but parallel development through this arc as well.
Gon breaking is one of the most emotional things ever. Watching Killua who was always the stoic composed one see it happen and not be able to help is devastating.
It’s a trip. I’m gonna hope that things get sorted out and the anime and manga continue, last I heard was the creator was still having a lot of health problems and he was being pushed really hard to put out chapters
You forgot to mention hyori itai is the best ending song in all of anime and its soo good that hxh used it twice in two separate arcs shove it down our throats how amazing it is... and then you realize it stands for two sides of the same coin and realize how that is a complete embodiment of the arc its closing and its even more epic
TeleBlur Yeah, leorio is so fucking funny and likeable, during the chairman arc i just loved anytime he was on screen.... to bad he wasn't on screen through most of the show sadly.
The biggest flaw is the lack of a time skip during Greed Island before the Chimera Ant arc. Gon and Killua should've been on that islandd for a few years to make their power increases more believable, and would've added to the more mature theme of the later arcs. They're too physically young and it's kind of jarring.
I didn’t expect to cry over ants. I didn’t expect to rewatch the whole series more than 5 times to cry over ants. Didn’t expect crying over ants to be just as raw over multiple viewings
too bad this video doesn’t, I watched this before I saw any episodes and then again after I was 70 episodes in, and STILL had things spoiled visually and off-handedly for another three dozen episodes past that. seriously he needs a better format that limits the topics and visuals to the first quarter of the run.

I mean he is, Compared to Most if not all other Shounen Protags One Piece: Family are all famous big figures in the World, Has a Stronger (Now Overpowered Bs) Power, Power Of Friendship medium, Can make friends out of nearly everyone. Bleach: Name any Race of Importance in the Series: Ichigo has it and is a real talent with its Powers to some degree, Every battle he starts losing, he gets Plot Armored out of it. Still, Killua also is 1 in a 100 milion, so they are always on the same level of potential which is unseen with different shonen where MC's right hand will always be weaker and have less talent than their friend
the only thing I disagree with is I really love training episodes in anime. I hate when a character learns things so quickly, that it's not even fun anymore when they get a new power. Seeing them learn about Nen, then training is always fun to me. Everything else really spot on, especially Genthru. Ugh. And you don't even mention the outstanding soundtrack!
Training episodes are awesome when they're done right. HxH does them right. Another good example is Kenichi: History's Strongest Disciple. That show is basically one giant training episode XD
1. Nen is the best aura-like power ever written in any media . 2. The evolution of the plot is convincing, well structured and thrilling. 3. The main characters have very diverse and developed personalities that even the main character can be absent and still feel like that doesn't matter.
@@ShaggyDabbyDank Hamon fucked off way too quick and while stands are amazing, Nen is far more complex. Stands are simplicity done to it's best. Nen is the opposite. That's probably why both are the best shounen has to offer when it comes to abilities
Ryan Perez “Stands are simplicity done to it’s best.” Ehhh... I see what you’re trying to say, but I’m not sure if you’re right. It really depends on what the Stand is.
For me personally if a series that makes me reread or rewatch it then that series is really dope... Hunter x Hunter is one of the top 3 series that I most reread manga and rewatch anime... 1. Hunter x Hunter 2. One Piece 3. Attack on Titan
For me, it’s when a series makes me go read the manga right after is done, then have a meltdown when you realize it’s called hiatus x hiatus for a reason… But if I’m being fr, it’s when a series has an unshakable hold over me, when I’m literally addicted to seeing content of it, I love the cast of characters, the deigns, when/where I’m watching it, I know everything about it, and if I wanna know everything about it. A series could be emotional, soul crushing, but if it’s just that, idgaf, when there’s a character that has never escaped your mind for years. (Kurapika I literally don’t understand why) I just feel it when something is special to me, which is what hxh is. One piece as well. I wanna say alt, bc I did read the manga before the mappa adaptation, but it doesn’t have the same spark as it did in pre time skip. (I’m one of the people who don’t care about the ending until I think about it more, which makes me hate it).frieren beyond journey end, and other pretty amazing series that I can’t name on the top of my head. But hxh is definitely my most special favorite and everything about it makes me happy. Btw happy hxh bc there’s gonna be new chapters coming out soon!!🎉
i had absolutely no intention of watching this show as i expected it to be a typical shounen anime with no real depth you have opened my eyes i loved every minute of this video im going to go marathon HXH right now thank you
Squash Fold WHOA WE STARTED IN SIMILAR TIMES How much did you cry? I rarely cry to anything fictional, but the Chimera Ant Arc just tore my tear ducts to shreds. Whenever I hear a memorable piece of music or character, I feel overwhelmed because I remember specific scenes like Pitou & Gon or Meruem or Komugi.
Alex AAA I HAVEN'T FINISHED IT YET BUT IM LITERALLY WATCHING IT RIGHT NOW AND IT'S AMAZING AND I LOVE IT AND IM STILL CRYING AND I WILL NEVER STOP CRYING
I love how all the main characters are “good” but are flawed. I was super surprised when Killua straight up kills to two guys who bumped into him on the airship because he got upset at losing a game...
@@rosariograceroldan8165 and he was just talking about how he was so frustrated he wanted to kill Netero for the ball. Those 2 pushed him over the edge.
Seriously, there’s something about this anime that makes it special. I don’t know what it is, but I realized that I’ve never seen any anime that compares to this one. I’ve seen great ones but nothing is like Hunter x Hunter Edit: Update: after rewatching this show many times over, I really think that it’s mastery stems to gon and killua’s relationship. This is such a strong bond, but it is so delicately set up, and killua’s redemption arc is magnificent. He goes from a scared kid who can’t make bonds because of his horrendous circumstances to a confident young man who is able to make his own decision and find what he wants. Throughout the whole story, it may seem as though he’s just going along with gon, but in reality, the benefit he gets from following gon on his journey and dream is what leads him to his passion, and to something that he truly cares about, his (sister) alluka. By following gon and being able to grow close to him, he is able to extend this to the other people in his life and begin to find what he wants. I also think it a noteworthy that he learns what true friendships are. In the beginning, he constantly feels a great debt to Gon for how he saved him, but as he develops these bonds and grows smarter, he realizes that he doesn’t owe him, because this decency is what friends are supposed to show each other. He finally begins to have confidence, and this allows him to learn the true meaning of friendship. Lastly, at the end, as killua grows brighter and gon spirals into darkness, Killua is unable to save gon like gon saves him, gon practically kills him self, but killua has a redemption arc of his own, an arc where he saves his imprisoned sister, frees her from her horrible life, and is able to save his best friend. In the end, gon and killua saved each other, not just one way around, their friendship is one of giving AND receiving on both ends, and by the end of it, Gon’s arc is completed, and while he looks to find a new passion and goal, killua’s goal begins. As ones journey ends, the others begins. I think that this is one of the most genius lyrics written character relationships in anime history, and is the best thing to look at when watching Hunter X Hunter. It is truly magnificent. However, damn, the chimera ant arc and yorknew arcs are amazing.
Gon’s arc far from ended bro. He’s never gonna find closure from killing Neferpitou, nor will he when he exerts himself too far for another friend. (Hopefully) he learns that in order to save others like Killua he has to save himself
IMO HxH is great because it reflects life. The slow start showing Gon beaming with innocence, and lofty dreams of adventure. To making life long friends along the way who shape and mold you. Tackling adversity and showing how to get back up when knocked down. To the complete loss of innocence at the face of a dark, unfair world. Then realizing good and evil is often very blurred and complicated. Then before you know it as in life, best friends go their separate ways....you quickly realize life is about the journey and not the destination...... Ima bout to ugly cry....
Speaking of the music, it’s top tier, the part where killua confesses he wants to be friends with gon and the music swells almost made me kinda teary eyed
I watch this video sort of on a whim, mostly due to boredom and I heard random good things about HxH, on the same level you might hear random good things about something like Baccano. You gave it some pretty high praise so I was a bit sceptical but I gave it a go regardless. Even throughout the Hunter Exam arc, it had the merits of an incredibly high quality shounen. I was really enjoying it, especially thanks to Hisoka. It hit me that this series is something special when I got to the "Rescue Killua" arc. It was almost a blueprint step by step of every "invade the fortress to save a character" arc seen in other shounen (Retrieve Sasuke arc, Soul Society Invasion arc), and while I was having fun, I did rather roll my eyes since I figured I knew how this was gonna go. Gon and co fight enemies of increasing strength blah blah. And then after the first encounter it just...ends. Killua just leaves, Gon and co participate in a strange coin game with Gotou and they just move onto the next arc. This moved it from a highly entertaining watch to a thrilling immersive adventure that actually would keep me guessing. Of course I had no idea at the time. The Nen system is probably my favourite structure of anime magic, keeping the unique ability traits that make Jojo stands so fun and timeless, but the addition of "conditions and restrictions" was the icing on the cake. The fact that every character has an ability that not only suits their personality, but that they can even adjust the power of the ability over it's general utility is just another way to show a character's personality through their abilities. It's something they designed for themselves rather than a god-given ability. Then the Yorknew Arc happens and I just can't give enough praise. It was unpredictable, exciting, every character was engaging and interesting. The aesthetics, the drama, the action were all just top notch. The second ED, "Hunting for your dream" is one of the greatest EDs ever and the 'riot' sequence was just beautiful in it's horror. The series does take a little step back with the Greed Island arc, but it's the kind of step back where the show goes back from being a 10/10 to a 9/10. That was thankfully fixed with the second half of the Chimera Ant arc, which is possibly the greatest chunk of episodes in effectively any series I've seen. Blowing even the near perfect Yorknew Arc out of the water. There's too much to say about it. Having finished it a week ago, I still can't believe how good this series is. Even with all the expectations and good things said about it, it still blew me away with the quality of it's action, drama and emotion. The only real fault I can give is just that it's not complete. So thank you for making this video, cause I don't think I would have watched this series otherwise, and I would have missed out of one of the best viewing experiences i've had in years.
I just wanted to share that during my first watch through of the series, I had a very similar experience. I kept hitting points where I thought I was being hand-held through a genre-staple that I was comfortable and content with experiencing, and then every time I was grounded in that the show threw me the biggest curveball and floored me with its twists and turns. Since the first time I watched I've rewatched the entire series already and am working through reading the manga. It is bar-none one of my favorite shows of all time.
Honestly I was one of the people that dropped it off in the beginning bc it was to "childish" Boy was I wrong. A few years later I picked it back up bc why not and I've watched it 3 times already and I love every bit of it.
Well I had a problem with this - yes, York New arc is great. But after that it was really boring for me, like massivly boring. Kurapika being my fav char didn't help with it.
robhans5 I agree, well for the most part. I felt that thw Chimera Ant arc would have been perfect if it wasn't so drawn out. I felt that a few things could have been kept out to make it less jarring and more well paced. I loved all the scenes about Meruem and Kumogi, but as for the build up with the Captains, I could have used a little less of that. I wasn't as invested in those fights, let alone those captains. The only Chimera Ant captains that were intresting were Colt, Meleron, and that one scorpion chick (only because I loved the fight with feitan and I love the phantom troupe.) I wasn't as connected with pouf or yupi as much as Pitou but I rather see more of them than Cheetu or Hagya. Anyways, I think I'm done with my thesus. tldr; Yorknew is best arc and Chimera ant arc was too drawn out, but still good.
I love seeing here how Gon has to essentially deal with anxiety disorders brought on by being in such high-stakes conflict. I really can't think of a lot of fantastical media that really brings in issues of how that much stress and constant danger can really erode away at a kid's psyche, aside from maybe "Steven Universe: Future", where he's straight-up told he has PTSD.
One of the reasons to watch HunterXHunter is Hisoka. He's such a unique character with unique tastes and he's one of those "villains" you actually love seeing because of who he is.
He's hardly a villain. Phantom Troupe - yes, they are villains, and the fact that they can cry over companions etc. Makes them worse than monsters. Yes, Hisoka is crazy. But did he really kill anyone? Like go and kill someone? He kill when he fights and opponent know that. He only goes and want to kill Phantom Troupe. Sad that he are left with "I'm going to kill you all" as a clifhanger for over a year.
AuthenticNaabi this...is...the..DUMBEST ANIME EVER! not even trolling. I just dont understand what you people like about this. This is worse than watching paint dry, and it doesn't make any sense what so ever.
robhans5 "Hisoka is crazy. But did he really kill anyone?" Hem, yes he did ? And forcing people to fight you until they die isn't exactly better than straight up murdering them you know xD
I started off despising Hisoka and hoping the main characters would whoop his ass soon... Now, I actually love whenever he appears on screen and kinda want to see him advance his (admittedly psychopathic and crazy) plans!
One small thing I like about the show is how it sets up a plot point and delivers the goods. Shonen has a tendency to lead you on, setting things up and then giving you bits of anticipation but afraid to really ever wrap things up. I think this is a bit of insecurity... Like if you get the full payoff you'll stop watching. If in another anime you had the "Hisoka face punch/ Gon badge" plot point you would be waiting several seasons for a payoff. Instead you get it the very next season. I thought Kurapika wouldn't even encounter the phantom troupe till the closing acts but in very early on in the run he actually gets a taste of his revenge. Such a good show. Probably never would have watched if not for this video.
Hey, remember the Rule of Aura-Reduction-per-Distance? And remember Kurapika sticking a Conjured Chain into Chrollo and never worrying about that Rule? Means: Conjured Items became free of That!!
Not slowly. If you look at the last 10 years, it means that manga wil lend in like 100-120 years. It's better to end when anime ended with open ending, rather than cliffhanger and forget about Kuarpika revenge etc. It will be never resolved.
The best way to enjoy this series is to have ABSOLUTELY no expectations for it. That's how I stumbled across the series on Netflix, and good god were my expectations blown out of the water, stabbed to death, revived by Alluka, then flattened by an imaginary anvil until they exploded into a pool of blood (maybe that metaphor got away from me). This is one of my favorite series in any form of entertainment, both because it appeals to what I enjoy, and from an analytical standpoint it is masterfully constructed, as well. I enjoyed it more because I could recognize the tropes it was subverting, but I strongly believe that you can enjoy the show without knowledge of those tropes. I say that because I've seen shows that subvert common tropes without actually knowing those tropes myself [Gurren Lagann subverting common mecha tropes as well as Evangelion's deconstruction of those very same tropes (I don't watch mech shows - save Lagann & Eureka Seven (only after seeing Lagann) - though I really need to see Eva at some point)]. That tangent aside, this video does an incredible job at explaining what is so great about the series. I love analytical videos like this, and this video really satisfied my taste for information.
excpet its soooo bad. u HAVE TO HAVE high expectation becuz ppl be telling me its sooo good. the anime is one of the worsr ive ever seen. too much characters to go thru. anime is slow. no thoughts put into any characters design or personality. fight scenes are boring. everyone is either crazy or always throwing a kid tantrum
I'd understand if a Shonen action series isn't your thing, but the claims you make are completely false. I'm not sure how much of the series you've actually watched, but the characters are actually really well-developed, and the fight scenes don't drag on endlessly like most Shonen battles. Not sure if the show just doesn't fit your tastes, or if you're just fishing for replies.
You could be preaching peace on Earth and goodwill towards all and I'd still disagree if you wrote it like that. Just because you're anonymous doesn't mean you can commit war crimes against the English language
Y’all I understand that at first glance Hunter X Hunter might seem long with its 148 episodes at first glance but I PROMISE you that it’s amazing. Especially since it’s been on a hiatus for years now. Every episode is a blessing and all the characters are so well written.
this show is honestly one of the best, if not the best, anime i have ever seen. the plot is so good and it always keeps you interested, and the characters have such distinct personalities that made me so emotionally attached to a lot of them (my personal favs are killua and kite). it’s been almost two years since i watched hxh for the first time, and i always end up coming back to it. it was the very first anime i had ever watched, and it holds such a special place in my heart. i’ll never get tired of watching this show. i’m currently rewatching it for the millionth time with my younger brother because i got him into it, and now it’s his favorite anime too lol
@@jjuunniioorr8778 If you saw his Bleach video you would know that he likes Bleach. Kubo's best quality is art and dynamic character designs. Giving his character's strong and dynamic personalities is not one of his strong suits. You can criticize a show and still like it. I used to be a huge Bleach fan years ago and even I knew the show had that problem.
All i can is "wow". I actually fell into the trap you talked on in this video. I watched a few episodes, thought the show was "ok" and dropped it. You definitely inspired me to check it out again.
So, I powered through the first few episodes and am now already blazing through the series in the middle of the 3rd season. Easily one of the best "deconstruct" shonen animes ever. If you are reading this comment and are unsure about the series after listening to what "One-Eyed Wolf" was saying, DEFINITELY check this out. Its a slow start but by the middle of the 1st Season (episode 13-16) things begin getting interesting in a real way.

I mean watch Hunter x Hunter sure it's one of the best TV shows of all time but it's at your own peril that shit's the most emotionally harrowing piece of media I've ever consumed.
Should've *consumed* Berserk beforehand. Would've prepared you. And if you mean the hiatuses as the "emotionally harrowing experience" Berserk still beats HxH.
6:02 - "He is not the chosen one" Well, since his father is Ging, I think he is. I mean, at least half of the events of the story were more or less caused/influenced by Ging, all to turn his kid into an incarnation of hunting. The point being, he is not chosen by God to save the world, rather, he is chosen by a hunter to hunt (the hunter), hunter x hunter. Plus, don't forget that both he and Killua are super-geniuses of nen, basically Mozarts of aura manipulation. And Gon has, from day one, instincts and abilities of a wild predator. I think the "chosen one" motive isn't what differences Gon from the rest - it's just that he is chosen by a different thing than usually, and chosen to do much different thing than usually the chosen ones are chosen to do.
@@halisternator oh yes, the trope is not a bad thing. hxh is top notch and even a chosen one story can have real stakes. The trope of trying to find tropelessness where the trope most certainly is can be a bit much, but it's all for the science, so its fine.
I'd say it's more he's an MC in a realistic shounen world. None of that WITH THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP or sugar coating an antagonists strengths. It starts off innocent because like Gon, we haven't experienced the world. As we explore it more and learn what being a hunter means...shit gets serious
Gon is a very plain protagonist on purpose. By having your protagonist be plain, it allows all the other characters in the story to shine. This is very obvious in hxh with how much depth you get for almost every character you ever see on the screen.
@ Darkstander Gon is an extreme optimist. He strongly believes that everything will be fine and that he can mold reality. Though this quirk of his make him an unbelievably capable individual, it blinds him to the depressing aspects of reality... At the Chimera Ant arc, he could not save Kite, and even more so, he had contributed to his death. And that destroys him. He is really complex, actually. Perhaps a more realistic version of typical shonen protagonists.
One of the easiest examples of the power of the chimera arc is that fans would rather- no- PRAY that characters sit down and talk out their differences at length, and are deathly afraid of them participating in breathtaking battles instead.
Togashi got us to sympathize with homicidal genocidal cannibalistic ant people, and wish they could all just sit around playing chess forever! How the Hell did he do that?!
The sad thing about hXh is that the first handful of episodes may be enough to turn some people off it because of its generic, average start. Which is a fucking tragedy. But if anyone’s reading this down the line, PLEASE stick with it. It evolves rather quickly into not only the best anime you’ll ever see, but one of the best TV shows you’ll ever see. It deserves a much higher audience.
@@sejalb725 I know, I Don't read mangas but these 2 made me change that . I think it's the endless possibilities and mysteries these anime have that makes them so much better. Wtf is dark continent? Who is Don freeccs? Who tf is bang? What's up with metal knight? I can't wait to get to these.
There was an interview between Masashi Kishimoto (author of Naruto), Yoshihiro Togashi (Hunter X Hunter), and some interviewers from Shueisha recently. Togashi said that he is particularly inclined to create characters, then put them in environments and circumstances where they are least comfortable. This, I believe, is the core reason why characters in Hunter X Hunter wind up doing morally ambiguous things and why few of them ever act like your typical shonen character.
As a HxH fan currently watching YuYu Hakusho for the first time, I gotta say that the one who had the most development was the author himself, Yoshihiro Togashi. He improved a lot as a writter and I feel pround of him.
actually he was great from the start even in Yuyu Hakusho, but the network bosses prevents him to be such and does limit his potential since they are in control of where YuYu Hakusho timeline and story should go to, with HxH the chains were off and we got this masterpiece.
Just finished episode 148 and I can confidently say it’s not just one of the best anime I’ve ever watched but one of the best pieces of entertainment I’ve ever experienced. Incredible show.
@@danoliver8989 Man... nothings come close in recent seasonal anime. Or at least- there are some shows I'm watching but they haven't had that payoff from average to great yet. I'm gonna try not to spoil anything. I'm looking forward to Jujutsu Kaisen, it had a strong premise but I just finished the season and I'm kinda left waiting for more. Only time will tell. Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon slayer) was pretty good- but it really jumped the shark with its ending. I'd say when the anime catches up the manga- just jump ship when the battle is over. One punch man is good~ in manga form? But its also in hiatus along with mob psycho 100, That writer does both and he's pretty good. Hmm... One piece is good of course. in manga form. If you've watched one piece anime- you'll really end up hating it. the animation is some of the worst. Gintama is actually good. It's got a lot of comedy elements- but when it hits a serious arc those slap. Dorohedoro is a really Great anime I'd recommend. The ending to the manga was actually satisfying and I'm looking forward to the adaption. This might also be a preference things- since the CG and blood might be offputting. Speaking of CG, Land of the Lustrious is killing it in the manga currently- not with any big battles but with slow kind of psychological mind shattering- kind of elements. the animes a good adaption, visually stunning. Made in Abyss is going to be one of those ground shaker anime... the manga is beautifully detailed and the upcoming story looks promising. It also had a movie recently but I wasn't able to watch it. The chibi artstyle definitely is a lure for darker plot but that's not really a spoiler, at this point its kind of expected in the genre. Talentless Nana- is good. ITs a big jump from HXH which develops its nensystem meticulously, to go straight to plot for no reason... but the first couple episodes are pretty decent. And you can even solve some of the mysteries early on because it sets up those elements in advance. Manga kinda dragged its feet, but its recently introduced a new character that makes it feel worth it to recommend. Trigun? Konosuba... Its hard to recommend shows for HxH the tone and genre aren't close to matching, mostly because HxH is that kind of show that can be goofy kids one episode and human murder machines the next episode. Welp I've talked waayy to long for this. TLDR: Dorohedoro, Made in Abyss, cheers.
@@GamersInHellOnYt thanks man I’ll definitely take a look at Dorohedoro. I’m thinking of watching Jujitsu kaisen next cause I’ve heard good things but Gintama also sounds like something I’d like. I finished Mob psycho 100 yesterday and really enjoyed it. I also watched demon slayer s1 couple weeks back and enjoyed it quite a bit but only when the story starts to pick up a bit. Thanks for the suggestions man I’m still new to anime so I always appreciate recommendations.
burmecian123 After a month since this comment of yours was posted, can you tell me if you've already seen this anime? I'd like to hear your feedback. (I've been a fan of HXH since 1999 so I'm really curious. :)
@@talachuchi7204 It's funny you replied when you did. I started watching a few days after christmas, and binged the whole thing, finishing a couple of days ago. Short answer: I really liked it. Longer answer is below to hide spoilers. I kind of went off and wrote a crappy essay. But you did ask for it. :^) I didn't exactly go in blind, having watched videos like this. So I sort of knew what I was getting into. A really charming anime that started off kind of generic, but executed extremely well and with a lot of charming characters. At first I thought that I wouldn't care that much for the lead up to the chimera ant arc, but was sucked in almost immediately. It's crazy how literally almost every character you see is super interesting and how fleshed out they all feel. It's hard to write what I think without just aping this or other reviews. But my main praise for Hunter x Hunter is how deft Togashi is at knowing when and how to mix things up. It's not enough to "subvert our expectations" willy nilly. Sometimes it's better to take the tried-and-true path and do it well, saving your curveballs for later. It's sort of like rock paper scissors in a way. Constantly going for big plot twists and surprises all the time makes them mundane and lack impact. The viewer should be second guessing what will happen. This is why the chimera ant arc in particular is so amazing and why it's always talked about. The arc starts out with the queen gradually birthing spawn with more and more power. Allowing the ants to get a foothold, but giving a good warning to the hunter association who are tasked with stopping them. The slow build up lets you get to know all of the human-furry squad leaders as they start to squabble amongst themselves. But it also gives a good idea of power scaling as more powerful ants are born. But what really makes the arc interesting is how it ends. In dragon ball, Android 16 grabs a hold of perfect cell in order to activate a powerful bomb in his chest. Despite cell's power, he is terrified. Implying that even cell believes the blast could kill him. Of course, 16 doesnt have the bomb and the story continues. My point being that a lot of action shows would treat a suicide attack like that as a cheap shot. In dragon ball, batman gambits never work because they end the fight in a sudden and anticlimactic way. But that's exactly how Netero defeats Meruem. And it's one of the coolest endings I've ever seen. A really awesome fight, Netero's terrifying last words, and then Meruem slowly coming to terms with with his mortality. Taking two of his guards with him, and leaving Gon to get super jacked and prone to pounding pussy. Where dragon ball would rarely let the action take a back seat to drama. Hunter x Hunter ends it's arc with a surprise nuke and shows the effects from there. Including a lot of really touching moments. I actually teared up a little at ant-reina reuniting with her mother. And almost did again when Killua forced something to never come out again. It is kind of a weakness as well, as I had originally expected the ants to be such a global threat that it would require the combined might of the hunters, zoldycks, spiders, ect. to take them out. Which is sort of what happens, but not completely. Zeno and Stephen Tyler help out a bit and then leave, the phantom troop easily deals with some jobber ants, and curapika and hisoka are totally mia. My only real complaint is that while this video correctly states that Gon isn't your usual shonen badass who always wins, Killua kind of is. Not only does he almost always win, he usually wins fights handily. I thought this was remedied by what looked like his major character flaw. His lack of nerve when fighting stronger opponents. Which was really interesting. Up until Kilua's one-on-one battle with Big Chungus. Where you find out that Kilua's self-doubt is literally a cowardice needle implanted in his brain by his older brother. Which Killua promptly tears out and immediately dispatches Rammot. He even slaps youpi around before fleeing. I'm probably misremembering, but I think the only time Kilua was really tested in a battle by himself was with the dart siblings. I do ultimately like Killua, even though I think he's kind of a mary sue in ability. He's like an anti-Vegeta, not struggling to prove he's the best. But to break free of his murderous upbringing and be a better person and loyal friend. Also the fact the Leorio really never did much of anything the entire series was a little odd. But that teleport punch into Ging's prick face was more than enough. Basically Hunter x Hunter is extremely familiar, but just different enough and well done enough to really get into. Even if you've seen a million other shonen before. And I plan on reading the rest of the manga soon.
burmecian123 I went into this shit blind and it was amazing. I would never suggest for anyone to spoil themselves to any level with HXH, it isn’t the same
I remember watching this one video after I originally binged HxH that talked about how the first couple of episodes basically trick the viewer into thinking the show was gonna be light and the typical Shounen anime, but slowly let the facade fade and show the real colors of the show by showing not everything was gonna be as black and white as you thought it was gonna be.
The seasons go back and forth between light hearted(ish) and very dark, but as it goes on the darker arcs get more progressively heavy, emotional, and deadly.
Spoilers, but The death of Meruem was the biggest gut punch of a scene I've probably ever seen. Meruem was evil incarnate, a completely unsympathetic villian at first. To go from that to making his death so damn sad through all the subtle beats of the scenes with him and Komugi is, in my opinion, one of the most incredible feats of storytelling I've ever seen. The show has a few flaws, but that moment is enough for me to easily overlook all of them.
I remember watching this series something like 15 years ago now. Definitely one of my favorites!! I didn't know it had such a huge following and appreciation.. nobody else I knew IRL had even heard of it. Anyway, love to have found your channel a few days ago. Your story telling and analysis and very engrossing. I know you don't need me to tell you.. but, KEEP IT UP! You're a hero to nerds like me.
Two months ago, I started watching this video. 12 minutes in, I turned it off, opened Hulu, and began a journey. One month ago I reached the end of what Hulu had to offer, and got Crunchyroll just to continue this series. Today I am proud to say that “holy shit this is one of the greatest things I have ever fucking seen”. Truly a masterpiece.
Hunter X Hunter is my favorite anime. It might just be the best anime as well. For the first couple seasons it has this familiarity that makes it really pleasant to watch. The characters are well written, the story lines are interesting, and the animation is excellent and consistent. It’s of high quality all across the board. It here’s the thing, once we get into season 3 where the Phantom Troupe faces off against the Shadow Beasts something happens. The show shifts gears from high to off the charts. As we see Uvogin poisoned by Leach and we’re lead to believe that Uvogin is about to die all of a sudden I can’t blink. I can turn my head. I’m stuck watching as Uvogin proceeds to bite a chunk of skull off his opponents head and spits it out as a make shift built to kill 2 of the Shadow Beasts with one move. It’s unprecedented in the battle manga genre which has been over saturated with content for nearly 40 years. Who thinks of that? How is this a scene in a cartoon? Wow! And this is only the beginning of the build up. This is only where it starts to get unbelievably good. From here it is nothing but kick ass top notch peak anime right thru to the shows conclusion. Including the much underrated Greed Island arc. And that climax in the Chimera Ant arc is unrivalled. That’s peak of the peak. So yes I see where Eyepatch’s “well made but average” thoughts come from. Because they were mine too. But once you realize how great this show is you can go back to those “average” episodes and realize that they are pretty great too.
@@manny8614 why tho when you do it slowly its better than rushing it so you can feel the real experience ,5ep a day is good (its what i did)1 week is like 20 episodes a day your crazy dude
What makes gon so unique is that -He's portrayed as a strong kid with alot of potential due to he's traits but in reality he is weak -took him 4 arcs to literally have iconic powers -He doesn't have that monster inside concept inside him, all he's powers are from he's hardwork yet there not that op -He's the only one who can use an awakened form once, and using one time is already deadly -He's the only protagonist who uses he's final and strongest attack to just completely self destruct -He's the only protagonist who managed to fully tame a vegeta
I will say in defense of genthru, he was almost definitely written to be as bland and forgettable as ever, I don't believe the same man who wrote Hisoka, Chrollo, and Meruem didn't do this on purpose. Greed Island was meant to be a light arc to recover from the yorknew city arc, an arc like this could not have another amazing philosophical villain without making the show too dark. So he wrote a purposely bland and candy cut out villain to support the light tone of Greed Island
While this may be true I still find it a flaw. A better idea would have been to actually make Genthru out smart Gon and Co constantly. This would give a decent villain while keeping tension but nothing near the other arcs. He be more of a "I want this guy to get punched" over a "How can anyone touch this God".
Eyepatch, thank you for this hxh analysis. You’ve just covered everything this show has which made it one of my eternal favourite medium to this day. I would really love if you did not hold back because od the spoilers and go into full detailed analysis of all characters, fights and ideologies. That video would be even more insane than this one :)
Me : I need to study for exams, I shouldn't waste time with videos I don't need to watch Also me: *Watches 50 minute video about telling me to watch an anime I've already seen multiple times*
Regarding 12:00 - Hisoka isn't actually asking her on a date, it was censored from the actual tone which was Hisoka asking her to stay over to have sex with him. Similar to when Hisoka asks Illumi in a later arc - even in the 2011 Anime, if Hisoka can 'kill his brother, Killua' - but that isn't what he meant, but rather if Hisoka could have sex with Killua, which was the reason Illumi got so incredibly mad at Hisoka suggesting that. Hisoka literally asked Illumi if he could have do sexual things to Killua, to his older brother. :l
Goldfire345 Yeah, apparently it didn't need any censoring though. What is it you're referring to, the ass-staring or the rising-boner that Gon and Killua are noticing while he's bathing? lol
Goldfire345 Yeah. Though the suggestion of Hisoka doing the hand-gesture to insinuate he wants to stick it in Killuas' pooper is just the extra-mile they went to show it. lmao
that's the kind of thing that if I were killua I'd be trying to slice hisoka into pieces if i saw him doing that and I realized what that actually meant.
I currently watched almost every Eyepatch's video starting from newest to this one. Goddayum man improved alot, from the scripts to the editing. I actually found comfort in this man's video. Whether it's about anime, manga, movies, cartoon, wrestling and other stuff. I feel like everytime I watch eyepatch's video the mood, the theme of the day started to change. I feel enlightened. The first vid i watched from him is about Perfect Blue and i love how he tells the story of it. Since then i crave for more and more of his videos. Graphic vids sure. Heck even Gantz and Berserk that have those sexual moments i still continued to watch it. Eyepatch's vid opens me up to new manga's and anime to watch. It's not something i would consume and leave after. Thanks man John (i think he said his name in Berserk vid that is almost 2 hours long) for making this videos. That actually was crazy
Somehow that was still a fucking great fight
you had me at a little boy ripping a serial killer's heart out with his bare hands and showing him it's last beats
in the manga he just crushes it in his hand, I can't decide which was cooler though
The former is the cooler
The latter is meaner
actually no the first one is cruel and the second is brutal
i cant tell anymore which of these make it cool
So now I appreciate the more subtle interpretation; it doesn't have the same visceral impact as the original depiction, but it involves more thought and is worth it in its own way.
its crazy seeing that part in two different ways, 1999 and 2011 did same scene but showed different angles and face expressions were different
That's honestly what makes me not wanna watch it
I think I'll check something else out

What did it show?
You've conviced me. I shall now go and rewatch Hunter x Hunter for the third time since I've discovered it, less than two years ago.
(If you watch the 2011 anime though, I'd recommend you check out episodes 18, 19 and 20 from the 1999 anime as a ''bonus'' ; it's only filler, but there are some gems well worth a look.)
Either way, hope you'll enjoy it !

Leorio is one of my favorites behind hisoka
I like him straight away
(sorry for my bad english) because in the 2011 anime adaptation they make leorio a little selfish and kind of weak but in the 1999 adaptation or in the manga i think in the hunter exam arc he was a goofy Character but he was more calm (not calm actually) but kinda cooler and more relatable and the filler in the episode 7 (little spoiler) was absolutely amazing and makes you to relate to leorio (it was about leorio) but at least they kinda expiate in the last arc but still i like the 1999 version of leorio more
I suggest you guys to check the 1999 version episode 2 x 7 are fillers but they connected to the story Really well specially the episode 7 and it has a darker tone and more mature Characters(not all of them) specially the youknew arc and kurapika

TeleBlur Yeah, leorio is so fucking funny and likeable, during the chairman arc i just loved anytime he was on screen.... to bad he wasn't on screen through most of the show sadly.
Leorio was also my favorite, he reminded me of usopp from one piece ^^

True, I was so pissed off when Leorio came back for the Gen'ei Ryodan arc but he was like only 3 episodes on screen. They got me fucked up.
The biggest flaw is the lack of a time skip during Greed Island before the Chimera Ant arc. Gon and Killua should've been on that islandd for a few years to make their power increases more believable, and would've added to the more mature theme of the later arcs. They're too physically young and it's kind of jarring.

the only thing I disagree with is I really love training episodes in anime. I hate when a character learns things so quickly, that it's not even fun anymore when they get a new power. Seeing them learn about Nen, then training is always fun to me. Everything else really spot on, especially Genthru. Ugh. And you don't even mention the outstanding soundtrack!
I didn't like Greed Island at first, but I liked it a lot more in its manga format
Hafa Ball It just got overshadowed by its two older brothers. Like Luffy and Ace are on stage while Sabo is in the background.
Training episodes are awesome when they're done right. HxH does them right.
Another good example is Kenichi: History's Strongest Disciple. That show is basically one giant training episode XD

@Macus Alexander Liew non threatening boy = The new Nostrade family mob boss
you just to watch the Yorkshin City Arc for this
For me personally if a series that makes me reread or rewatch it then that series is really dope... Hunter x Hunter is one of the top 3 series that I most reread manga and rewatch anime...
1. Hunter x Hunter
2. One Piece
3. Attack on Titan
For me, it’s when a series makes me go read the manga right after is done, then have a meltdown when you realize it’s called hiatus x hiatus for a reason…
But if I’m being fr, it’s when a series has an unshakable hold over me, when I’m literally addicted to seeing content of it, I love the cast of characters, the deigns, when/where I’m watching it, I know everything about it, and if I wanna know everything about it. A series could be emotional, soul crushing, but if it’s just that, idgaf, when there’s a character that has never escaped your mind for years. (Kurapika I literally don’t understand why)
I just feel it when something is special to me, which is what hxh is.

I love how all the main characters are “good” but are flawed. I was super surprised when Killua straight up kills to two guys who bumped into him on the airship because he got upset at losing a game...
I believe killua did not kill those two. They just lose consicousness.
@@rosariograceroldan8165 There was blood he definitely killed them
@@rosariograceroldan8165 and he was just talking about how he was so frustrated he wanted to kill Netero for the ball. Those 2 pushed him over the edge.
He killed them just like in the manga, the anime is a lot censored
@Mohamed Salim it does especially when you compare killua’s development to Gon’s. Gon becomes progressively more ruthless and killua becomes kinder.
Seriously, there’s something about this anime that makes it special. I don’t know what it is, but I realized that I’ve never seen any anime that compares to this one. I’ve seen great ones but nothing is like Hunter x Hunter
Edit: Update: after rewatching this show many times over, I really think that it’s mastery stems to gon and killua’s relationship.
MARS* I never meant his arc as a person, that won’t end for decades, I meant his arc in the anime, which is finding ging.
Does it get good after the hunter exam? Coz one fight is one episode long I hope it’s not like that in the future
@@zhubin4713 I would say things really pick up in yorknew city. The show just keeps upping the anti after that.
Always when gon talks i feel happy. I dont know whx but the mix between his spirit and the music makes me feel warm
LordSpectreXIII is this a comment or an essay
I just wanted to share that during my first watch through of the series, I had a very similar experience.
I kept hitting points where I thought I was being hand-held through a genre-staple that I was comfortable and content with experiencing, and then every time I was grounded in that the show threw me the biggest curveball and floored me with its twists and turns.

I agree, well for the most part.
The only Chimera Ant captains that were intresting were Colt, Meleron, and that one scorpion chick (only because I loved the fight with feitan and I love the phantom troupe.)
I wasn't as connected with pouf or yupi as much as Pitou but I rather see more of them than Cheetu or Hagya.
Anyways, I think I'm done with my thesus.
tldr; Yorknew is best arc and Chimera ant arc was too drawn out, but still good.
"3 times", damn I could never do that even though I LOVE repeating Netero vs meruem, gon vs pitous and gon vs hisokas fights

Yea, and Steven Universe Future didn’t do it well at all, making HxH even more important in this regard

One of the reasons to watch HunterXHunter is Hisoka. He's such a unique character with unique tastes and he's one of those "villains" you actually love seeing because of who he is.
Arlequin ( or harlequin) i would said.
But did he really kill anyone?"
Hem, yes he did ?
And remember Kurapika sticking a Conjured Chain into Chrollo and never
worrying about that Rule?
Means: Conjured Items became free of That!!
Why you shouldn't watch it: You'll feel your heart being ripped out of your chest when Killua cries for Gon. And many, many, other moments.
when the show goes on a hiatus that will probably never end
Yup, that's tr... wait a minute... I see what you did there .-.
Your heart will broke when you realize it's the end of the anime.
+Shiny Moon It's not the end. The manga is just being produced slowly.

6:02 - "He is not the chosen one"
Well, since his father is Ging, I think he is.

@@atheos.1383 I wonder if we will ever see Gon again... HiatusXHiatus
Perhaps a more realistic version of typical shonen protagonists.

you got me so hyped for this show and when I watched it I was BLOWN AWAY! thank you so much for this video

Once you finish Hunter X Hunter, it'll be extremely hard for you to get into another shounen.. BECAUSE HUNTER X HUNTER IS THAT DAMN GOOD!
Too True. Yu Yu Hakusho is a fantastic watch that should definately be seen after hunter x hunter!
@@BenDover-lz6is I second that.
EXACTLY! The only shounen that I've been able to like after watching it was My hero academia but even that took a long time for me to really get into.
There are definitely other good ones, attack on titan, death note (first 25 ep), jojos, mob psycho, and others
It's not "that damned good"
It's more like - either you GET it and it GETS you or you just don't.
One of the easiest examples of the power of the chimera arc is that fans would rather- no- PRAY that characters sit down and talk out their differences at length, and are deathly afraid of them participating in breathtaking battles instead.
We just love them all too much
...And spend way too much time justifiably bawling our eyes out
Togashi got us to sympathize with homicidal genocidal cannibalistic ant people, and wish they could all just sit around playing chess forever!
How the Hell did he do that?!
Years later and I'm still crying about what happened, especially to the 2 people i cared the most on hxh

wtf I almost teared up just hearing the word Komugi. HxH is definetely an unbelievably good anime
You know a show is good when you actually want the "villian" to have a good life
When you actually cry when "villian" die.
Emperor Reign yup. I stopped watching after a few episodes. Then read comments like this and continued. Now finished. wow. I almost missed it.
Wow, can you imagine what you were going to miss?
for some reason, I liked it from ep 1.

ajinkya reddy aaaa so you’ve read OPM too!? You’re officially a man of culture. That genuinely made me happy right now.
This, I believe, is the core reason why characters in Hunter X Hunter wind up doing morally ambiguous things and why few of them ever act like your typical shonen character.
where can I find this interview and does it have subs :d
As a HxH fan currently watching YuYu Hakusho for the first time, I gotta say that the one who had the most development was the author himself, Yoshihiro Togashi. He improved a lot as a writter and I feel pround of him.
He really has!!!
actually he was great from the start even in Yuyu Hakusho, but the network bosses prevents him to be such and does limit his potential since they are in control of where YuYu Hakusho timeline and story should go to, with HxH the chains were off and we got this masterpiece.

@@GamersInHellOnYt I’ve been trying to fill the hole that it’s left in me, do you have any recommendations?
TLDR: Dorohedoro, Made in Abyss,
cheers.

Having never watched this show, I gotta say that a literal reverse tournament arc sounds really clever.
burmecian123 After a month since this comment of yours was posted, can you tell me if you've already seen this anime? I'd like to hear your feedback.
(I've been a fan of HXH since 1999 so I'm really curious. :)
@@talachuchi7204 It's funny you replied when you did. I started watching a few days after christmas, and binged the whole thing, finishing a couple of days ago. Short answer: I really liked it. Longer answer is below to hide spoilers. I kind of went off and wrote a crappy essay. But you did ask for it. :^)
I didn't exactly go in blind, having watched videos like this.
I would never suggest for anyone to spoil themselves to any level with HXH, it isn’t the same
DBS
burmecian123 I really just read that entire thing lol
I remember watching this one video after I originally binged HxH that talked about how the first couple of episodes basically trick the viewer into thinking the show was gonna be light and the typical Shounen anime, but slowly let the facade fade and show the real colors of the show by showing not everything was gonna be as black and white as you thought it was gonna be.
I started getting the dark vibes during the 2nd phase of the hunter exam
The seasons go back and forth between light hearted(ish) and very dark, but as it goes on the darker arcs get more progressively heavy, emotional, and deadly.
@@lunajz-1584 I got them during yorknew city!
Spoilers, but
The death of Meruem was the biggest gut punch of a scene I've probably ever seen. Meruem was evil incarnate, a completely unsympathetic villian at first. To go from that to making his death so damn sad through all the subtle beats of the scenes with him and Komugi is, in my opinion, one of the most incredible feats of storytelling I've ever seen. The show has a few flaws, but that moment is enough for me to easily overlook all of them.
are the first few episodes one of those flaws?

@@BigfootUnibrowMan this ^^
Hunter X Hunter is my favorite anime.
Great❤ hxh is my fav too

I'm glad some one finally gets the loss and destruction of Gons character and loss of innocence. and how heart breaking it is.
What makes gon so unique is that
-He's portrayed as a strong kid with alot of potential due to he's traits but in reality he is weak
-took him 4 arcs to literally have iconic powers
-He doesn't have that monster inside concept inside him, all he's powers are from he's hardwork yet there not that op
-He's the only one who can use an awakened form once, and using one time is already deadly
-He's the only protagonist who uses he's final and strongest attack to just completely self destruct
-He's the only protagonist who managed to fully tame a vegeta
I will say in defense of genthru, he was almost definitely written to be as bland and forgettable as ever, I don't believe the same man who wrote Hisoka, Chrollo, and Meruem didn't do this on purpose. Greed Island was meant to be a light arc to recover from the yorknew city arc, an arc like this could not have another amazing philosophical villain without making the show too dark. So he wrote a purposely bland and candy cut out villain to support the light tone of Greed Island
Universe_Cat3 I agree. Is that from Aleczandxr’s video?
Agreed
While this may be true I still find it a flaw. A better idea would have been to actually make Genthru out smart Gon and Co constantly. This would give a decent villain while keeping tension but nothing near the other arcs. He be more of a "I want this guy to get punched" over a "How can anyone touch this God".
I think that's because he is not as good looking as Hisoka/Chrollo..

There is one scene in the greed island arc that confirms hisokas "intrests" very clearly without any censors
Goldfire345 Yeah, apparently it didn't need any censoring though. What is it you're referring to, the ass-staring or the rising-boner that Gon and Killua are noticing while he's bathing? lol
the ass staring scene. For me at least it makes it crystal clear what hisokas "interests" are with no wiggle room to interpret it as anything else
This convinced me to watch it and 5 days of marathoning later, it was great and I regret nothing. Thanks
I currently watched almost every Eyepatch's video starting from newest to this one. Goddayum man improved alot, from the scripts to the editing. I actually found comfort in this man's video.
