EDIT: I've taken the liberty of cutting out around 40 seconds of the original video, so if the below addendum/apology doesn't make sense to you, that's why - it was for a part of the video that I got rid of. That edit is also part of the reason that some of the audio during the Alluka/Nanika section is a bit inconsistent. I'd welcome you to ignore most of what I say about Alluka/Nanika in this. Not only are some of my facts on the rules of her power wrong (apparently, I dunno. Rules aren't what I really concern myself with in stories), but the bit on her gender is just bad. I don't know what I was thinking during that part - I was being ignorant and naive, and I apologize for my insensitivity. Nothing about her biological sex is explicitly stated - and if Alluka wants to be identified as a girl, then that means she's a girl, and Killua's respect for that is as telling as the rest of the family's disrespect. That's all I personally need to know when it comes to that topic. We may know more about Kalluto in upcoming chapters. Something I didn't mention in the video: There is another Zoldyck that's mentioned in the story that I did not mention in this video: Zzigg Zoldyck. He is thought to be Zeno's father and Maha's son. He once went on an expedition with Netero to the Dark Continent and made it back alive. This also gives some explanation as to how Alluka could have been possessed by Nanika (or "Ai"). Perhaps he brought a Calamity back with him. ALSO: It has apparently been confirmed in a breather page in one of the most recent chapters that Nanika is indeed Ai. Kind of an anticlimactic way to reveal it, but meh. So there you go, Nanika = Ai confirmed.
While we are pretty sure with Nanika coming from the dark continent it would be worth to mention that it could also be an unconscious nen ability like Neon Nostrade with he fortunetelling. However, nen is a force of life that could be used by any kind of life, proved by quimera ants. In the world of HxH we haven't seen how animals would use nen because the use in quimera ants comes from humans nen users (at least the way they use it) but nanika could be with this theory a whole new approach for nen, not by humans or human-like creatures but by powerfull, strange and incomprehensible for us, coming from the Dark Continent. PD: I know that this is a pretty half-cooked theory but it would be cool that nanika is a nen abiliity and a creature from the dark continent. PD2: I don't know why but because it was said that in Netero's expedition died a lot of friends i thought that Zzigg died there and his wife was already pregnant when he went to the Dark Continent, i don't think the manga explicitly says that he died.....i stupidly jumped into conclusions :(
I am still not convinced that Alluka is male though, the Wikia and Databook list her gender as "male" but also contradict themselves, and say that Milluki and Illumi may have played the pronoun game as part of deliberate abuse towards her.
Beni Habibi I'm so sorry, I accidentally just deleted your comment with the other question in it. Could you repeat it? About Alluka, there are 5 or 6 reasons stating why she is male, using what I thought was rock solid evidence. I don't remember where I found it though and I don't remember all of the reasons (I believe that once a non-Zoldyck called Alluka a he and Killua didn't correct him, and that was one reason) mainly because I'm sick of the whole debate really.
When I first saw Feitan, I 100% thought he was a Zoldyck. He's got black hair, kills people, and does that same "make your hand super stabby technique".
As I re-watched the anime, I realized that the existence of Alluka was already forshadowed in the first Zoldyck arc after the official hunter exam had ended. The tour-bus lady states that the family had 5 children.
You can even notice in the silhouette how out of all the zoldycks, the only ones holding hands are Killua and Alluka. Not really relevant but I thought it would be a nice point to bring up.
It’s their character design, which is amazing, a character is well designed when you can just see their silhouette and know exactly which character they are.
Beautifully dynamic when Hisoka and Illumi start teaming up as Illumi would kill Hisoka if he kills Killua and hisoka would kill Illumi if he kills Gon; not to mention Killua wouldn't consider Illumi a brother if he kills or prevents him from saving Gon. This is such a hecking good anime.
@@ismaelsonlins5824 theyre explicitly written to be foils to killua and gon. chrollo is a foil to kurapika too, making the 3 main "villains" be direct parallels to the 3 main "heroes". this is just speculation (not real so it's not a spoiler don't worry) but i feel like hisoka might kill off leorio to trigger gon back into action. the way he was contemplating on who to kill back when killua was bringing alluka to the hospital felt like really heavy foreshadowing. with leorio and gon's strong bond and gon being essentially out of commission without his nen, it feels like hisoka will grow impatient with him. there's no way he's gonna let gon go back and have a normal life as a kid now 😭😭 the asshole
@what's life? killua vs illumi would be sick and that's probably where his arc is heading with illumi trying his hardest to get his hands on alluka now. hisoka's more likely to kill someone gon cares about to trigger him back into wanting to fight him but their rematch is definitely going to be interesting.
Strangely I see Zeno as having a personality as what could be the finalized result of Killuah in the future, as is his personality is prehaps the closest to Killuah out of the rest of the family
Agreed. In fact, Though not exactly one for one, I can imagine Gon act just like Netero and Killua act just like Zeno when the two saw Meruem with Komugi.
@@TheFirehands150 Gon is not like Netero though and Zeno wasn't the same age with Netero. It was Zzig who is in the same generation and Tier with Netero.
I think it's safe to say that most of Silva's seemingly "relaxed" attitude with Killua comes from A) The needle he had Illumi put in his head to control him and B) His confidence in Killua's conditioning. Silva is actually probably the most manipulative of them all. His father/son talk with Killua (which he admits he had never had before) was simply to endear him more in the eyes of his son. He believed that Killua going out into the world would ultimately end with him betraying his friends (either due to his conditioning or the needle's influence) and that Killua would eventually run home, broken, and ready to accept his 'rightful' place in the family. It seems he believes that Killua's desire to have friends and belong to the outside world is fleeting and will die when he realizes how different he is and that he can't be anything other than a Zoldyck. He also has his other children and his wife carry out the nasty stuff so that Killua would be afraid of/resentful towards them but he could by contrast play the doting father and win Killua's respect and affection. Subsequently, Killua is afraid of Illumi instead of Silva and is resentful towards Kikyo and not Silva. He is cold and calculated and no more than in the way he pretends affection towards Killua and orders his other family members to do his dirty work so that he can remain the "good cop" in their family. Because Killua is going to be his successor, so he *needs* Killua to see him as an example and look up to him. That makes him, in my opinion, the most insidious of all of them. He does genuinely care for his children in his own way, but only as they are useful to the family business and he distributes his focus accordingly. TL;DR: Silva is actually probably the worst out of all of them, it just isn't immediately obvious because he worked hard to make it so, all for the sake of Killua's development.
You spoke my mind~I would add one more thing. You mentioned his first ever ground breaking father/son talk was to ender him more in killua's eyes. You're absolutely correct on that one. Also, he was asking killua about his friends, and we heard Killua told him about the fight between Gon and Hanzo (he probably told Silva more about Gon than this fight). Now, Silva knew the friend Killua was going to run off with is a naive, stubborn, and hot-headed kid with suicidal tendency. He knew in a dangerous situation, Killua would run because of the needle, and Gon would stay. Thus, he made killua swore never betraying his friends. He knew if Killua did run away, Killua would feel he doesn't deserve to have friends, and go home. (he also said if you're tired, you can come home anytime.) If Biscuit didn't point out the condition to Killua and had he actively fight against it, Or if Killua' love for Gon wasn't strong enough (Silva probably doesn't have any good friend to know), Silva's plan might have worked. Later when Killua returned home to save Alluka, and used Silva's exact words to do so. It was such a slap in the face for silva. Killua might not notice silva's plan, but still, lol. Silva had to let Killua to help Gon because that was his words. If he broke it, Killua would no longer respect him.
Nah, Silva and Zeno are actually normal on their own way. The Zoldycks value friendship because they know the importance of it, having a real friend is not just someone to go to places, they know that sometimes shit gets rough and friends are there to help you. Netero is a prime example of that, Netero once fought Maha and became close friends with Ziggs Zoldyck and his friendship became a deep connection that was show on the chimera arc as Netero did not complain and knew how much of a impact hurting an innocent had on Zeno, if netero was all about the money and the mission he would have Zeno stay even if meant barely raising his chances of winning against Meruen using Zeno as a sacrificial pawn BUT NO, he just let him go. There's also the saying on the family that's "the job isn't worth the money", it's not that they are being underpaid, it's just that making a powerful enemy, killing someone that do not deserve it or going against a friend is not worth any money, they only do it because they are professionals but this does not mean that they are happy about finnishing the job.
FUN FACT I LEARNED YESTERDAY ALMOST 5 YEARS AFTER FINISHING THE ANIME AND READING THE MANGA. In the bit where Hisoka asks Illumi what he would do if he killed killua, in the Japanese manga what hisoka actually said roughly translates to "what would you do if I did killua?" Aka "what would you do if I raped killua?" The symbol he does with his hand also supports that....So yeah...I knew hisoka was perverted but...wow
I the fact that they’re all so vastly different. The characters are crafted with such detail that they almost feel real. It’s crazy how much care Togashi puts into characters.
Hunter X Hunter is just an amazing anime, my absolute favorite, the story is mindblowing and it has endless possibilities. Hope the anime starts again in 2019 since he started to write the manga this year again.
@@rays5163 If you think about the amount of smart strategies, coming from quirky and complex individuals with each their own goals, that goes into each arc I think it's really mind blowing that it all holds up together and creates a coherent story with clear goals and satisfying progression. I think Togashi is a very smart writer and everything seems to end up how he wants it
LiGht YaGami I disagree, the Chimera arc was arguably the best arc in hxh. And now we have Dark continent setup and the whole Hisoka vs. Troupe side story. But I do agree that greed island was weak and pretty forgettable
So the writers of deathnote can't write a good story for more than 25 episodes? LOL i've never seen a show so carried by one person than how L carried deathnote. And Chimera ant arc was the best arc of the series. Names are important. The Death note won't work if you don't have someone's real name. Is that also retarded? I mean, death note was about Light finding L's real name. The plot was really stupid.
Silva? Zeno and Milluki have pretty normal male builds. Killua is just a boy, so of course he got no masculine build, besides outrageous tonal body. Illumi has some but he also has a masculine build. He's just a pretty boy with muscles, he kinda reminds me of Itachi a bit. Kalluto and Alluka definitely see themselves as girls and not guys. Maha is old as fuck and Zigg looks like an evil Tweek from South Park.
@@kayla5543Im getting started with those thanks, and just to further contextualize im an adult and not looking for those cild shonen animes lmao (but those look good btw)
@@coffeetoffee0x019 well if that’s the case illumi shouldn’t have a problem with gon. Yes, they’re 14 but fluffy shipping is free game (anything past that is a no tho)
The lack of extended family does seem odd. It's possible that the siblings that don't become the family head leave the family business, or they simply died in action.
@BTS equals seven if thats true then why keep the other siblings alive now? They already have a heir, killua, so there was no need for alluka and kalluto to be born. And why even train illumi and kalluto if the only one that matters is the heir? And if the siblings were to be killed off, whats the point of kikyo having a relationship with illumi, milluki, and kalluto, if they're going to die? The killing off sibling idea is fucking retarded.
I find it odd, Killua struggles with self-worth and shaping his own identity, and yet acts as the center piece of his family. Thinking about it, it makes sense if every other member is already quite stable in their personality and drives while Killua fluctuates to find his ideal path. Every other member is quite predictable to each other, Killua's the only one that makes his family guess what he'll do next.
Illumi has been stripped off of his identity (notice how he's robotic and apathetic rn), Milluki is struggling for appreciation from the family (they don't appreciate the things he do best, e.g. that millu and zeno scene), Alluka is basically sharing her identity with another entity, and then Kalluto's out here young and lost. I feel bad for all of them.
In the show killua told gon that his father dropped him off at the tower of heavens arena. His father said he wasn't allowed to come home until he reached floor 200. He also went on to so it took him months in order to reach 200. But he went back home with plenty of prize money to spend on snacks.
have you noticed all silver-haired members of the zoldyck family are transmuters (killua/silva/zeno), while all black-haired members are manipulators (illumi/milluki/kalluto/kikyo) ?
Kikyo is very likely an emitter I think. Even if it's not confirmed, Kikyo did fire a projectile at Canary when we first encontered her, and she is "quick to react in a volatile manner" and can be perceived as "quick-tempered and hot-blooded" If you buy in to the Hisoka-Nen predictions. As for the rest I think it's a great observation. EDIT: I Realize now that i was wrong, according to the "Hunter × Hunter Official Databook" she is listed as a Manipulator, i don't personally know enough about the Hunter × Hunter Official Databook, to tell if it's cannon or not, but i am guessing it is. The hair thing might have something to do with the prodigy child of each generation having whitehair-blue eyes, (Silva has blond hair in the 2011 anime, but I'll ignore that as a choice made by the animators). Killua-SIlva and assuming Zeno, were all prodigy children for their generations, all have white hair and blue eyes (zeno with a very faded blue), and all are transmuters. That's a really cool observation you made there Also you left out Alluka in this case, I guess you did so because we don't know much about her nen abilties, as in if they are hers or if it belongs to Nanika or both? Also she could be a manipulator, and still have specialist powers, like the reverse Kurapika, that has Conjuration and Specialist features. But I won't go too far into that :P
Toiler broiler well as you said, theres 1 prodigy born each generation and it was killua so this is my theory : alluka was born a manipulator (like all of her brothers except killua) but then got possessed by Ai the calamity at very young age which turned her into a Specialist
+Soufian 27 Your theory is good, and i wouldn't be surprised if that ended up being the case. However, I have to disagree on one thing. I don't think you are born with a nen type, I think it's something you develope as you mature as a person. As we know, nen is tied to personality and who they are as a person(Your spirit). I might be wrong on this one, but I think your nen type is determined when you encounter nen for the first time (When Wing released Gon and Killuas aura during the heavens arena arc). (SPIOLERS: If you haven't read the manga) If you belive that nen type is not something you're born with, but rather something that you get when you first discover nen. You could make the argument that Gon won't have the same nen type when he re-learns nen, because of how he has grown as a person, especially during the chimera ant arc. This is however, just speculation, and i can't back too much of it up. Only thing i can say against the argument that nen might carry over, like a gene from a parent, is that Illumi, Milluki and Kalluto might have had a very simillar upbringing, unlike Killua that might have had more freedom thanks to his father. Alot of this is far fetched, and i can't defend this very well, but it is still something worth considering
There was another foreshadowing for Alluka... It's in the name of Zoldyck siblings, there names in order are - Illumi, Milluki, Killua, Alluka, Kalluto There is a clear pattern - - Each name have exactly 3 syllables (more precisely 3 Kana letters) - Middle syllable is always "llu" (in Kana ル) - Last syllable of one sibling is the first syllable of the next Now, with Alluka missing from the list, one can still see the pattern and infer that there must be another sibling with name "Alluka" which should be younger then Killua but older then Kalluto. And in the flashback photo in chapter 229, the one you mentioned, it's easy to see that the extra sibling in the photo seems younger then Killua but older then Kalluto.
Something I've been wondering about Illumi's character is whether his obsession with Killua might stem from being sidelined as the heir despite being the oldest. So that his attempts to control Killua, the legitimate heir, are in fact efforts to control the family's future, or grasp on to the power that he may perceive himself as having lost. And maybe he overcompensates the humiliation of being deemed "less worthy" as a son by trying to be the perfect Zoldyck in his protective attitude towards the family as well as carrying out missions to the tee. Now, this is just a theory since it has never been explored in the manga as far as I remember but I think it would make sense, as the cultural importance of the firstborn son is so prevalent.
While I genuinely think he has an unhealthy love/obsession with Killua, I definitely wouldn't doubt that this could be part of the reason for his actions.
I kinda see the same thing with Illumi tbh. I mean just think about it, he loves his family SO much, plays by all the rules, obeys and over all the "perfect" assassin. Only to be shunned by Killua, who physically hurts the family (stabby stab) and runs away and from that earns so much honor and respect!? Like srsly? Really!? At least thats my opinion.
I feel like Killua will take over the family when he realizes Illumi would be in charge otherwise. (Edit:) Actually, he will probably decide to "lead" the family when that's the only way to protect Alluka. Also, the white/silver hair seems to show who has the fortitude to take over the family. I think Killua will be more like his grandfather than anyone. Killua's instincts are to kill, but he still appreciated life and reasons to live...I believe his father is right though and it's Killua's nature/instinct to kill. *BTW* Silva took Killua to the Heaven's Arena the first time so his mother wouldn't have been able to do anything. *AND,* I bet Miluki uses nen with computers and that's why he's so good with them/they're so high tech.
Bogdan 260 There is a theory that Maha might be Zigg, but no one really knows for sure, because no one other than Zoldycks and Netero saw Zeno's grandpa and lived.
@@thetreasurer7531 no, not really. The Addams Family is "odd outsiders but still loving" while the Zoldycks are "secretive assassins with a toxic family dynamic"
I think they're both focused on, which makes sense as they're the main protagonists. Although, I do think that the focus starts on Gon more, and shifts to cover Killua more during the CA arc.
"One kill per day" is such a good codifier for Zeno. It means "only one kill" meaning he is adherent to dealing only as much damage as needed, no more. But it also means "kill every day" which highlights that killing is his life. And both of them depict him as a professionalism incarnate.
the Zoldyck family is so cool and I'd definitely watch a small spinoff series on them. Illumi is my favorite so far but that can definitely change. great video bro
my head cannon is that nefaru and zeno's friendship is an older version of killua and gon's friendship. they feel like a mature version of that friendship.
Something curious about Zoldyck's brothers are their names: Illumi - Milluki - Killua - Alluka - Kalluto. The name of the younger start with the last syllable of the previous one. Just a random fact haha
28:33 unlike in the translation, Hisoka didn’t suggested that he’d kill Killua but that he’d do him which is also possible to notice because of the hand gesture
I also think it's so interesting how you can see the way the Zoldyck parents developed their training techniques. Illumi is essentially Silva and Kikyo's first "test subject" in terms of how they were to go about training their children, which would make sense for him to be THAT unfeeling and cruel - perhaps his training was taken too far, and they completely removed any trace of humanity from him. It is even stated somewhere, or at least alluded to the fact (I can't quite remember where but I do know it exists somewhere in canon), that even Kikyo and Silva believe Illumi to be a monster of sorts. That said, it would also make sense for Milluki to be the less successful sibling (or at least from what I could tell, considering he's clearly the sibling most overlooked, with the exception of Alluka); as his training could have been "too forgiving," and the least effective. Then, they moved on to Killua, where they found the perfect "middle ground" in their training methods. This could be another reason why Killua is favored by his parents, because he was the result of a perfected training regimen; and why Kalluto is just as much of a perfect assassin as Killua. It seems to me that Kalluto is the closest to what Killua could have become, had he not defied his parents.
he would have most likely died in all honesty , since if he can't land chain jail he probably can't solo most of the troupe members , it goes even more for chrollo .
We will never know I guess. I personally think Kurapika can kill most of the Spiders (maybe 50-50 with Feitan & Phinks) in a one-on-one battle except for Chrollo. The thing is Chrollo is also a specialist like Kurapika hence they aren't a good match as one of Kurapika's advantage against other phantom members is being a specialist once his eyes turn red. Kurapika also said it's hard for him to land his chain jail as they can avoid it in a millisecond hence why he have to ask help from Gon, Killua, Leorio and Melody and used darkness as advantage to capture Chrollo since he himself know that without it Chrollo could easily avoid his chain jail. So if I have to bet Chrollo will probably win that battle but he will not kill Kurapika and just left him there unconscious. The thing with Chrollo is that we never actually see him get serious in a fight yet. In his fight with Silva and Zeno he was merely trying to steal their powers. And in his fight with Hisoka even if he did win & killed Hisoka (before Hisoka come back to life!) you can see that he was still so chill and wasn't giving much effort. I actually want to see him get serious.
⭐️ GUANLIN / EXO / ZTAO ⭐️ Chrollo was so calm in the Hisoka fight because he spent a lot of time setting it up and giving himself dozens of advantages lol. It technically wasn’t a fair fight at all, Chrollo made the rules because Hisoka was way too cocky and allowed him to do so. Now it‘s clear that Hisoka will kill him and the troupe though, if Togashi wanted Hisoka dead he wouldn’t have made him come back. It‘s clear now that Hisoka will obliterate the Troupe and Chrollo
Revan Or he obliterates the whole Troupe but Chrollo still kills Hisoka. Remember the fortune: "Even after half of spider's limbs are severed, you'll still remain superior". I want Chrollo to win just to find a reason to smile
I like the entire family, including Milluki. I've had periods where I was allowed to be a shut in and not really need to leave the house, and I'd understand if he felt resentment for being a shut in. That'd be pretty normal. Not that the Zoldycks are normal by any stretch. I think he's a good representation of the vices of wealth, when your needs can be provided for. Laziness is a very difficult trap to avoid in that instance, and that'd explain why he's not a good fit to lead the family, according to Zeno. If he did lead the family, even in brilliance, and he got lazier then that'd be a problem. Tech support seems to be what he's best suited for and he doesn't resent that enough to deviate much from that. This video is fantastic too.
The Spider is overrated honestly. Before i watched Hunter everyone aas hyping them up as the best group on anime and when they came i was so excited....and then I was severely disappointed
Libra The beautiful War Monk i guess it depends on what you expected, they dont get as many epic fights scenes as other anime villans do, they are much more sneaky and casual with their plans. That makes me really like them. And the fact that hey weren’t killed in one arc and that they are still around but not the main bad guys.
I agree about zeno he is my favourite zoldyck (next to killua of course) because he's the most likeable and the most badass old person in hxh next to netero
So only the “favorite” child would get married and have children? Because if we consider that Silva and Zeno have brothers and they would all have children, the family would be very large and would go out of control. Edit: I was confused about Tsubone and Amane. I thought that the "servants" could not have that kind of interaction. Having a child and such.
@Ulsacerdos Also a possibility that branches of the family get kicked out once they marry or have children. So only the gifted of each generation are allowed to stay however long they please besides the current heads family.
I’m pretty sure I can’t remember in which arc but they do have other branches of the family I heard the Zoldyck family is a big business and the only ones we see are the ones that contain the heir of the family it wouldn’t make sense to have siblings just for them not to have children and to have the business limited to only the heir of the family
That breakdown of Milluki...fantastic. Very insightful and I love when you cover characters I don't think about. Another great video. And holy shit I feel like it was just recently you tweeted about hitting 5,000 subs and now you're blowing up. Well deserved.
Thanks! I didn't realize how much I actually had to say about Milluki until I actually sat down and thought about him. And yeah, I really can't complain much about the growth I've seen since a little before Christmas, it's been pretty pleasing. Thanks again :)
I think something that is important to mention is that illumi is the firstborn, so he was kinda the “experiment” of the next generation, especially with methods of raising. I believe that that is one reason he lacks empathy and emotion so much.
Although the video is over a year old I wanted to add something because I think it's an interesting detail : all the Zoldyck children's names have a verb in it (I have no idea how widely known this is since I'm completely detached from the fandom and haven't read much trivia- I just noticed it as I learned japanese). Iru means to be as a living being, Miru means to see, Kiru means to cut, Aru means to be as an inanimate object, and Karu means to borrow. I can't provide much analysis on that, but it's nice material to think about. As for Alluka, my personal headcanon is that she was assigned male at birth but identifies as a girl (basically, a trans girl) and Illumi and Milluki use male pronouns because they don't really understand what it means or haven't really questioned/reflected on their own identity themselves (especially Illumi) and don't understand why other people do so (especially Milluki, since he doesn't go outside). I think empathy and compassion in the Zoldyck family are a nice concept to reflect on as well - since some sort of empathy is needed to read, predict and explain the actions of other people, which is likely something you need to do in order to better kill them, but any kind of compassion or a certain kind of emotional empathy are forbidden, and concepts such as identifying as a different gender than the one assigned to you at birth are probably too complex for people like Milluki and sound futile for people like Illumi. Maybe I'm thinking too much and they're just abusive on purpose. Anyway thank you so much for your videos ! I'm currently working on a fanfiction set over two decades after the elections arc, and I might have to write a next generation Zoldyck at one point so having your insights on the whole family will definitely help me to write a character that makes sense.
The names of the siblings also follow a pattern. All have "llu" as their second syllable, and the final syllable of their names are the first syllable of the next sibling: IlluMI, MilluKI, KilluA, AlluKA, Kalluto. If there were a sixth one, they'd be Tollu-something.
Im pretty sure the Zeno or Illumi make some kind of reference to Alluka being born male. But if not it would make sense why she's named using the "aru" prefix. Basically stating that Alluka is just a vessel for Nanika and that she doesn't matter. And because Nanika is not human the Zoldyck's probably refer to it as a he purely for simplicities sake.
You've got the most professional, calming, interesting and unique voice I've ever heard. I swear you could be ranting about carrots for hours and I would still be mesmerised.
Same here. I started watching hxh because of Illumi(I thought he looked interesting and hot) but I also relate to him sooo much that no one will understand. He just makes me feel like I’m not alone.
I really love illumi's character. I recognise he is a bad person, but a great character. He genuinely intrigues me the most out of all the HxH characters. I can't wait to see what Togashi has in store for him.
This is a really great video about the Zoldycks. It's basically what I've been craving. You reminded me a lot of what I've forgotten about the family and also taught me more (both about things I didn't understand, looked over, forgot, or didn't know because they were in the manga). The Zoldycks are probably my favorite character group in HxH other than the main 4 protagonists, and as Killua is my favorite character (one of my favorites of all time), they are of course pivotal to understanding him and his growth. One thing always bothered me about the family, though: as you said, Zeno is the most well-adjusted of them all. He's not cruel, he's reasonable, and is overall a pretty good guy considering the whole murder thing and being-cool-with-torturing-your-family thing. Netoro wouldn't be friends with someone that was truly so awful. Also, Silva demonstrated through that convo about friendship and such with Killua, and his allowance and advocacy of Killua's freedom, that he's not all bad. So why is it that Milluki ended up so needlessly cruel, even causing trouble for them to an extent (it can't be easy to constantly replace servants with super-sensitive information and specifically skillsets because your son keeps killing them all for absolutely no reason)? That's practically an antithesis to Zeno and some of the family values. He doesn't have to be nice, but being so cruel and lashing out so much isn't beneficial to their business either, the "they didn't do anything because they ignored him argument" doesn't work -- if someone you're ignoring is causing problems for you, you fix that. They could've went on to ignore his existence after cutting down on his cruel tendencies, so long as they only did that much. Even Illumi isn't as bad as Milluki. He's arguably a far worse person, but as an ideal (mostly) assassin, he does everything the family needs him to do, so even though I feel like Zeno and Silva should be combatting his awful behavior more, it makes sense that they didn't. They literally just don't care that much (I mean, Silva married Kikyo and rarely hinders her, what more evidence do we need?) and since he's not causing problems and is actually fantastic at his job, they have no reason to. I feel like they SHOULD care some more, at least Zeno since his morals are the best among them, but they clearly have so much apathy that it negates them taking pretty much any action against the family (that one time he halted Milluki from continuing to torture Killua is pretty much the only time I can think of, and even then, he let him start and probably only stopped because getting him more injured would only be a nuisance). Also, a separate thing, I appreciate the theory on Kalluto. I definitely still have plenty more to learn about LGBTQ identity and issues, and as such I was somewhat confused about what Kalluto perceives his gender to be. I'm using male-pronouns here because the wiki does, refers to his gender as male (which is notable, because the wiki separates gender and sex for Alluka), and even Killua refers to him as a male. Alluka's entire existence proves that not only is Togashi aware of more possibilities of gender identity, so it makes sense that deliberate choices were made for Kalluto's. Because of the clothes he wears, he is absolutely aware that others would assume him to be a girl and refer to him as such unless he corrects them. To the best of my understanding, my takeaway is that Kalluto identifies as a boy, and enjoys wearing feminine clothing, and I guess just doesn't particularly care about misgendering. I'd have to go back and check, but I'm not sure how the Phantom Troupe referred to Kalluto. I think as a girl (at least in the dub, I don't know about the sub), and considering Kalluto was reluctant to open up or speak to them at all, I doubt he corrected them. The next theory I have is that he may identify more closely as nonbinary, genderfluid, or agender, but I'm not sure. I think the boy theory is the most likely one at the moment. The layer about wanting to be perceived as feminine so Killua would love him like Alluka also adds another layer to it, as well as Kikyo wanting a girl so badly that she might start pushing it onto her last child once she saw an opening to do so (because Kalluto clearly wasn't raised as a girl from birth). It'd be one thing if all of this would have come about without those influences, that this is truly how he believes best expresses who he is, but it'd be another if these were things that were pushed on him by his mom and he felt pressured to adopt to gain his brother's love. That would definitely muddle things, especially if it's a mix of both -- he would've eventually done so anyway, but it didn't come up until those circumstances arose. So because of that, I want even more of Kalluto's POV so we have a better idea of how he perceives himself. Please feel free to chime in with ideas or correct me, especially the Kalluto stuff. If I misused terms or have some kind of misconception or offended someone, I apologize, let me know and I'll edit the comment. Thanks.
HxH is legendary okay. One of the best animes out there with a such good storyline! It was a lot of possibilities. I wish it continues soon! No matter how many times i watch it, it still fascinates me on how good this anime is! Well done!
I love illumi and i believe he had the worst childhood compared to his siblings ,since he was the first child for silva and kikyo, they tortured him soo much that he doesn't have emotions and always expressionless and even when gon broke his arm he didn't show any kind of feelings, silva and kikyo made him just a tool for killing and training the heir of the family killua, and i think this is way he loves killua in a twisted way💔💔💔
My favorite zoldyck is easily kalluto. He has so much elegance when he uses his nen abilities and i just like his design. I really hope we get to see more of him and his abilities.
I am very curious about the grandma from the Zoldyck family. Nobody ever talks about her. There are 10 members in the family. There is Zeno, Silva Kyoko, Illumi, Milluki, Killua, Alluka, Kalluto and there is the great-grandfather, but I never heard anyone mention the grandma.
I think Kalluto could be pretty interesting in the future, because he is a member of the phantom troop. I think it could give a cool story when kurapica wants to kill kaluto because of the membership and killua has to decide if he is against kalluto or against kurapica. But i dont know what exactly the relationship between kalluto and killua is, from killuas perspectiv.
I can tell you spent quite a lot of time on this video! Good job, I love how in depth you went for every character,as well as explaining Alluka and Nanika made the importance of her easier to understand.
animenewsnetwork stated that togashi's wife will be taking over the drawing aspect while togashi tells the story. togashi main issue however popular the series is, he does not want an imperfect rendition of his series, that's why he doesn't just hire others to draw it out for him. hopefully his wife doing the drawings will be enough.

@@KillaTundant hey did you know that the creator of Hunter x Hunter has been making LGBTQ+ characters for decades. He did this on purpose and if you can't respect that then you need to look for a different fandom to enjoy.
Something I didn't mention in the video:
There is another Zoldyck that's mentioned in the story that I did not mention in this video: Zzigg Zoldyck.
PD2: I don't know why but because it was said that in Netero's expedition died a lot of friends i thought that Zzigg died there and his wife was already pregnant when he went to the Dark Continent, i don't think the manga explicitly says that he died.....i stupidly jumped into conclusions :(
This theory just scared me bro
a picture of Zeno's father is shown in the Manga, and he doesn't look like Zzigg.

Strangely I see Zeno as having a personality as what could be the finalized result of Killuah in the future, as is his personality is prehaps the closest to Killuah out of the rest of the family
Agreed. In fact,
Though not exactly one for one,
I can imagine Gon act just like Netero and Killua act just like Zeno when the two saw Meruem with Komugi.

AnkoSanSensei You never noticed that the captions never have a h at the end of Killua's name
THANK You.
I love the families kind of collective 'oh dang' reaction to Killua having removed Illumis needles
(he also said if you're tired, you can come home anytime.)
If Biscuit didn't point out the condition to Killua and had he actively fight against it, Or if Killua' love for Gon wasn't strong enough (Silva probably doesn't have any good friend to know), Silva's plan might have worked.
Later when Killua returned home to save Alluka, and used Silva's exact words to do so. It was such a slap in the face for silva. Killua might not notice silva's plan, but still, lol. Silva had to let Killua to help Gon because that was his words. If he broke it, Killua would no longer respect him.
@@wen771127 What an excellent addition thank you!
Kilua was the whole reason I started watching HXH I've slowly grown attached to the entire zoldyck family due to how unique they are to the HXH world

Yeah, good point. It's definitely not a coincidence.
That's a really cool observation you made there
Also you left out Alluka in this case, I guess you did so because we don't know much about her nen abilties, as in if they are hers or if it belongs to Nanika or both? Also she could be a manipulator, and still have specialist powers, like the reverse Kurapika, that has Conjuration and Specialist features. But I won't go too far into that :P
its possible that could run along the same genetic strain... maybe?
(SPIOLERS: If you haven't read the manga)
If you belive that nen type is not something you're born with, but rather something that you get when you first discover nen.
It’s also a bit odd how each family member wears an outfit pertaining to a different culture/time period
Oh yeah, so true.
true :0
Idk how Illumi can fit into a time period
The way the world of HXH feels so vast yet so interconnected in terms of relationships, never ceases to impress me.
There was another foreshadowing for Alluka... It's in the name of Zoldyck siblings, there names in order are -
Illumi, Milluki, Killua, Alluka, Kalluto
There is a clear pattern -
- Each name have exactly 3 syllables (more precisely 3 Kana letters)
- Middle syllable is always "llu" (in Kana ル)
- Last syllable of one sibling is the first syllable of the next
Now, with Alluka missing from the list, one can still see the pattern and infer that there must be another sibling with name "Alluka" which should be younger then Killua but older then Kalluto. And in the flashback photo in chapter 229, the one you mentioned, it's easy to see that the extra sibling in the photo seems younger then Killua but older then Kalluto.
well done

Gurmeet Singh So, the next child will be Tollumo? (The m can be changed to any other consonant. But the O must stay the same)
their names is actually just a reference to shiritori
This is i think one of the best theories out their explaining ilumi's attachment to killua
No he just loves Killua. You can seee that when he talks with Hisoka
Sunil Permaul Fun Fact: In manga, Zigg Zoldyck, Zeno's father, is showing very similar resemblance in appearance with Killua

True but the creator meant to make Gon is a simple based main character where other characters are more in depth

"One kill per day" is such a good codifier for Zeno. It means "only one kill" meaning he is adherent to dealing only as much damage as needed, no more. But it also means "kill every day" which highlights that killing is his life. And both of them depict him as a professionalism incarnate.
Illumi is similar to Pouf in his idealisation of what the object of their affection could be instead of who they are.
Similar ideas but different personalities. Pouf is so emotional while Illumi is just o_o

If kurapika had entered that room instead of silva and zeno, I wonder what would have happened
he would have most likely died in all honesty , since if he can't land chain jail he probably can't solo most of the troupe members , it goes even more for chrollo .
@@revan1519 im sure kurapika will play a part in that. But i agree

I agree re: Milluki, I think he's far more important than many seem to think. And thank you.

And that’s gonna be Killua
@Ulsacerdos Also a possibility that branches of the family get kicked out once they marry or have children. So only the gifted of each generation are allowed to stay however long they please besides the current heads family.
I’m pretty sure I can’t remember in which arc but they do have other branches of the family I heard the Zoldyck family is a big business and the only ones we see are the ones that contain the heir of the family it wouldn’t make sense to have siblings just for them not to have children and to have the business limited to only the heir of the family

Thanks! I didn't realize how much I actually had to say about Milluki until I actually sat down and thought about him. And yeah, I really can't complain much about the growth I've seen since a little before Christmas, it's been pretty pleasing. Thanks again :)
I love the Zoldyck family! They steal every scene they’re in! I’d love a spin-off series just about the family and their daily lives/missions/etc.
I think something that is important to mention is that illumi is the firstborn, so he was kinda the “experiment” of the next generation, especially with methods of raising. I believe that that is one reason he lacks empathy and emotion so much.
Welp. Time to knock out and chill for half an hour.
The only zoldycks I'm interested about are "ALL OF THEM"
I wanna see more of Kalluto TBH he’s my favourite Zoldyck as I love paper manipulation for some reason and I find his character design interesting

You get it bad people good characters I is so hard to find like that these days
Their silhouettes look like nightmare before Christmas characters😭
Thanks.

Imo, the template of killua if he is growing up is more like zeno rather than silva (also their appearance is coincidentally similar)
