2018 Infiniti Q50 First Drive Review | In 4K UHD!

- For 2018 Infiniti face-lifted their best selling sedan with new numbers and interior tweaks. Because this is a mid-cycle refresh and not a redesign, everything we loved about the previous Q50 is still here but unfortunately much of what we complained about is here as well. The Q50 is one of the best performance buys in the compact luxury segment delivering acceleration and handling that can go toe-to-toe with the Germans yet has more personality than a 3-Series can muster. On the down-side Infiniti hasn't upgraded their infotainment system or the driver's seat for 2018, but the strong value proposition and excellent engine lineup allow the Q50 to still be an excellent option in this competitive segment.

Your reviews are probably the most detailed and informative I've found on RUclips. Appreciate what you do on this channel.
very unbiased, hard to find a genuine reviewer these days that are paid promoted to talk good about a brand and trash the other, good on you
The 2004 G35 coupe still lives on in my heart🙏🏻
Love your review videos! Good to see one of the first 2018 Q50 reviews here. I would love to see reviews of the C43 and S4 as comparisons.
wow! what a beautiful car. i have the 2015 q50 , but def love the 2018 refresh. and great review man! so thorough and unbiased, the way a review should be. love it
Straight From The Farm do you enjoy the car? Also does it get compliments?
WHY did the NO warning show
I'm new to the Infiniti Family with the model he talked about at the very end, Q50 3.0t (twin turbo). I absolutely love this vehicle!! The luxury feel with the sports engine package..I'm in heaven!!
As always, a GREAT review Alex! Thanks for what you do...
Always love seeing these videos, thanks for the good work!!
Your best review yet! Thank you!
Thorough, detailed, comprehensive review. Great work!
Amazing video! You are incredible when it comes to detail. You Answered every question one would have when it comes to purchasing this vehicle.
What a great review ! How come I've never seen your videos. Great job man
Great review on my car, Alex. I got the 2016 RWD model and have enjoyed every moment driving her. Totally agree with you about the tires; I ditched the RFTs after a few months and went with a wider Nitto Invo staggered setup. I have an even better car now and she’s way more fun to drive. Please keep up the great work!
Another amazing, thorough, and well organized review!!!
Excellent review as always. Any chance you have an Alpha Romeo Gulia coming up?
Awesome job explaining the competition with this car because I was sure as hell about to argue that this is in class with the 5series but now I don't have to. I understand. One of the best reviews as far as giving detailed information on RUclips. Thank you I will now subscribe.👍
I just bought the a 3.0T Q50 loved it... Nice pick up and great price!!!! on 1/2/2018
Great review! I appreciate the comparisons to the competition. Thanks!
Like usual, excellent review. I really like how you put the camera on one screen.
Last request, can you test Mazda CX-5 2017 please!! i just bought one and i want to know what do you think in test review.
Amazing review! Thank you!
I would prefer you do the full review on the 300 horse power model. Thanks for another great video
Excellent review as usual Alex!
awesome review !!!
As always, great review, Alex! The Q50 seems to still hold its own in the very competitive small luxury sport sedan segment.
I truly love the design of the steering wheel in this vehicle. Also, that double stack screen seems very clean (in its appearance on the dashboard). From one car reviewer to another, keep up the great work! 👍🏽
IMHO, I prefer the gorgeous magnesium shifters in my 2016 Hybrid over those plastic buttons on the new wheel in the 2018.
The q50 goes fast in a straight line. But it tops Cadillac CUE for the worst infotainment system ever. And the handling and steering is trash.
great review keep up ur honest reviews i always hate how the other car reviewers talk bad things about infiniti
Great review 👍
Great review!
Great review, detail information is awesome.
Thanks for the review I love this car but was wondering your opinion regarding the DAS and would rather prefer this 2018 Q50 with or without DAS? THX 😎
Great review! Thanks.
I really like the graphics that you include
Love your reviews!!!
Just bought a 3.0 a week ago. LOVE IT!!!
Terrific review, you’re the best.
Alex is absolutely correct about the humidity in Tennessee.
God it looks so gorgeous. Tho the Q60 still have my heart.
Gorgeous car. Great review. Very well done.
Good review. Thank you.
Nice review! I just purchased the Hybrid version!
Hands down the BEST Auto Reviews On Earth.
Dude knows his turf. Liked. Subbed.
awesome review keep it up..subscribed.
I have a RWD '16 Q50 Red Sport and love it. Finally a review that doesn't spend all it's time trashing the DAS steering, which is optional, don't like it don't get it. The exhaust is just too quiet, my dealer is adding the Infiniti Motorsport exhaust to most of their Q50s and says it helps sell the cars.
So, save $1000 and don't get DAS, and apply it to the exhaust, put some Pilot Super Sports on and you have a great sport sedan. I shopped the Germans and Jaguar, the Red Sport is just more fun and that "tweener" size make the rear seats actually usable. I came from a G37 IPL, Infiniti is making some great cars............
Alex on Autos
AWD RedSport sounds good for the full review, most everyone has already gone or is going AWD here in the North East.
Excellent review I love your show Im from Mexico, this week Toyota just announce that is going to sell the Prius C here can you do a review of that car with your new format I have seen the very old review from that car but is not like your recent reviews well have a nice week.
Love your reviews. I'm so torn ATM as to what I should get. I'm looking at the q50 or g80 mainly but then wondering should I hold out for the g70 or Kia stinger. Size is not the be all and end all as I don't have kids right now anyway. I prefer the look of the genesis but my budget doesn't extend to the ultimate pack. Same as the q50, it would likely be more of the 3.0l version or 2.0lt. Whereas the stinger should be right around the same price for a 3.3l twin. G70 is obviously up in the air ATM but I'm loving the way the g80 is going
Hey Alex. Great Review.
I agree...the Q50S Red is a great automobile. As always Alex good review.
Wow...is it the 4K or the Q50 is beautifully designed.
Great job as always. Couple of things that I would love to have addressed. I don't recall you talking about them, but I could be wrong...
1. Have they gotten rid of or fixed the terrible steering? The fly-by-wire sort of a set up?
2. You said they had the best sorted Hybrid system, but ALL reviews I've read stated that the regenerative brakes were awful. Car and Driver said they were downright dangerous. I would love to buy a used hybrid, but not if they are going to be this problematic.
Wanna see the option charts there. Also wanna know how the virtual steering improved over the last two years. And the infotainment system, is it still laggy and buggy?
you are the best reviewer period.
Great review as always! Im so proud of Infiniti. Now they just need to release a competitor to the Lexus LC500
Racer Lex not gonna happen, they don't even have a flagship sedan.
Alex you're the man!
Hi Alex can you do a review on the pathfinder 2018
Very nice car & review!
Can you review the new TLX A-Spec. Also great review again!!
Why? That car is an afterthought and is severely overpriced. Just because you make some sporty updates and add black rims does not make a car a sport sedan. Acura is trash
Definitely not too expensive for me. Would rather pay for a better product though. Keep dreaming douche canoe
The Acura TLX A-Spec is merely an appearance package. It adds nothing of value unless you like black trim.
I lease Acura and I'm not stepping my foot near that brand any time again. You better off with Accord touring or top trim Camry or Sonata, than with overpriced TLX.
alex, many many times in both this video and past videos you have claimed the q50 red sport has a nearly perfect 50/50 f/r weight ratio, yet every published instrumented measurement i have read has it closer to 56/44. are you putting these cars on your own scales, or where are you getting your (mis)information from?
This is how a review should be. ✅
more details on the seats maybe? wondering if they still have that stitching infiniti logo on the back of the seats
Would love to see you review the hybrid.
Can you please review TLX Aspec with SHAWD?
I'd be interested in your review of the base, smallest-engined option.
Love that car, maybe my next purchase. Funny you don't mention spoiler is an options and rear seats are slightly reclined. No a/c front seats or heated back seats kind sucks
I can't believe they ruined the paddle shifters. Having the magnesium, column mounted shifters is the best. Glad I bought my Red Sport in 2016. That goofy grin on the front bumper is pretty bad too.
Infiniti has been kind enough to add exhaust upgrades straight from the dealer so you can make you Red Sport actually sound like it should. The factory exhaust is so subdued that you'd never know you were driving the super fast model. For just under $1k I've fixed that issue and now the car sounds great without voiding the factory warranty!
Great review, thanks!
I love this car's styling as it so closely resembles a Maserati sedan. Unfortunately Infinity once had an identifying element in common with Maserati that for some reason they've abandoned and that is the requisite analog clock at the top of the dash. Fortunately for the sake of authenticity the repair records for both brands are similar.
Dear Alex, could you do a comparison Between Infiniti Q50, LINCOLN MKZ and Acura TLX, Lexus IS?
Great review as usual. Any word on when you'll get to review the 2018 Kia Stinger GT2? Seems a lot of people put this as the primary competitor to that based on a combination of price, size, and features... but they seems like totally different cars to me. The Kia seems to blow away the Infiniti in terms of handling and fun, chassis stability, etc, whereas the Infiniti has a nicer interior and is more 'luxury' than 'sport.' Would love some confirmation in a future review!
The 2019 Q70 is going to be AWESOME!
N P Is it finally getting a redesign in 2019? LOL
What'd be awesome is if it came with a twin turbo V8, especially to keep the V8 as an option.
Duckpinbowling
Hey Alex....So semi aniline leather better than Nappa??
I really like this car good on them for making a car with 400 horses much appreciated
Can you get the 2018 lexus gs350 f sport rwd
Please review 2018 Audi Q5 or 2018 Audi A4 with Audi's new interior and designs. Thanks
What you think of a 18 loaded Q50 Red sport AWD for little over $34k 49k miles
Alex, please tell me Lincoln is lending you a Continental to review soon.
why they do not implement the nice adaptive and selectable suspension from the Q60 or Q30 ???? sad
Man that's a good looking car!
Do a detailed review on the refreshed Mazda 6, Alex.
does anybody know if you can purchase the rear diffuser off infiniti parts department?
It's insane what option packages one has to buy, before it gets heated seats.
First Last Those are standard at least here In Canada, no cooled seats which is odd
BigHeadClan 0n . .p
First Last I have the 2017 q50 signature series no heated seats or bind spot warning .. 40k car. I got a very awesome lease price but they are lost with how to option it properly. Also, the worst seats ever. That is the biggest problem I have with it.
chocolatewheelchair Really? Nissan/infinti usually has awesome seats aside from cooled/heated bit.
I'd get my rs400 bare bones personally and or used after 2-3 years.
BigHeadClan yeah man there's this rock hard horizontal bar under the lumber. It was misery on a long drive. Dealer says it's "normal" and I'm first to complain. I only do leases.
please do review on the Audi A4/S4 b9.
Japan's muscle car... I like that.... that's why I bought a 2018 rs400. thanks Alex!!!!
Headlights look the same to me...can someone please tell me the difference?
Could you review the new Subaru Impreza, Alex?
I got to drive one of these last week, and a Q60. Very fun car, quick. I currently drive a V6 SHAWD TLX Advanced. I think some of the comparisons here to Acura aren't ...ummm Accurate. The RS is actually missing quite a few options. My TLX is a 2015, and the new 2018 has more updated features again. I'm not trying to be negative towards the Q50, I love it, but I was surprised by a few things. No Ventilated seats, no power folding mirrors, no proximity puddle lights that come one as you approach car ( although there is a puddle light option that comes on with key I'm told), no headlight washers, reverse camera has very low res and blurry compared to Acura, lots of odd materials inside car feel cheap i.e. sunglass holder, ashtray in back? just odd little cheap plastics throughout, I don't remember seeing heated seats in the back? no heated windshield, heated steering wheel was not very hot, stereo was no better sounding then the Acura's ELS and I'm a big audio guy but the interface on the Q was better. The Acura seems bigger inside front and back, the trunk is certainly larger. All the lights inside the Acura are LED, and in the Q50 they weren't. Run flat tires are horrible and not safe. Granted the TLX rubber on mine is junk too. Transmissions in either car aren't anything to brag about, but I found the RS almost too touchy at times in slow traffic, and my Acura way too subdued. The 3.0T is a more balanced car for more novice drivers, but nobody ever reviews them? I'd fear the acceleration of the Q50S would take some by surprise due to where it kicked in as it's not always predictable but if you know how to drive boy is this thing fun. The Driving modes made little difference if at all. Hated the shifter, it's too tall and felt cheap. The 2017 Q50 paddle shifters are far better. My TLX has steering wheel mounted paddles and I hate them, they are never where I need them to be. The SHAWD is and will be much better in the snow with it's torque vectoring. The ability to kick the rear end out on a AWD setup in the Q is fun, but not ideal in snow. Again, more of a concern for novice drivers and climates with lots of snow. I enjoy two screen setups as it allows one to mess with the stereo/phone while the driver uses the rear backup cam and nav but I agree that the dash needs to be more seamless and higher quality. Felt a bit cheap. I'm in Canada, and this car (as well as the Acura) is just not worth the MSRP at almost 65k/tax. Infiniti needs to stop nickel and diming over packages and accessories too. If this car was 55k loaded, I'd be all over it. But at it's current MSRP I'm looking elsewhere. A refresh of a high end car in 2018 and not Android/Apple????no wireless phone charger, no ventilated seats in a $65k car when a Kia has them? Some stuff just left me scratching my head. Needs panoramic sun roof, flat bottom steering wheel, proper LSD and more to justify the cost.
Ha, nice honest review Steve. While I don't agree with many of the things you stated I can tell you were trying to be honest in your assessment. I do agree with you regarding the Q50 missing some things the competition has: heated rear seats, cooled seats, folding mirrors, rear LSD. Funny , I was really looking at a Red sport but I realized what a value the Silver sport is and agree that it should be reviewed more as it seems to be a great bang for the buck car.
I just test drove the a 19 Acura TLS AWD with advanced package and the Q50 Sport (300hp). I couldn't stand the driveline honestly in the Acura. It felt slow to respond and there was a dead spot in the gas pedal where it wouldn't respond until you nailed it. Also, the front wheel drive bias was apparent when I punched it on a sand covered road and the steering wheel twitched back and forth until it transferred power to the rear. A bit disconcerting I must say. The Q50 felt just the opposite. Always felt like a push in the back accelerating.
i currently drive a G37xS and love this car. I do find the Q50 a bit different though than the G in power delivery but it has my G beat in other departments.
Anyways, nice to read a comment that's not total fan boyism.
I got a 300hp 3.0t q50 and installed the EcuTek tune, the car makes about 440hp and 515 torque to the engine..night and day from factory
Malandro3 what's the MPG?
Had a Infiniti and two BMWs before, gotta say Infiniti is a great combination of performance, fun, value and reliability. Wish Nissan had pumped more R&D money into Infiniti though.
got one love it !
I'd like to see the Hybrid Q50 w/all wheel drive. If not, then the 300 H.P. w/all wheel drive.
I will say, The G/Q50,60 has in my opinion always been the best looking car in class. I still believe they are.
It is looking better than ever, Blake.
Never been so early to a vid
Would you take Infiniti Q50 over the BMW 3 series for long run?
I love infinti
When my Acura TL tank of a car calls it quits im picking up an older but much loved used Infiniti. Between Acura and Infiniti they are they best bang for your buck for used luxury almost forgot about Lexus too!
Very nice video allowes do review
@Alex On Autos does this still ridem9n the Nissan FM platform as the G35 did?
Blake Swan yes.
What about reviewing the new Audi A4? It's a strong competitor in this segment.
I miss my Q50!
Now this is a review.
The bottom lower fog lights looks like they took it from the VW GTI.
