    i drove this exact model for three years, and it’s one of my favorite cars. it is considered a luxury car, but most consumers are buying this car for its sports elements. the paddle shifters are very nice and one of my favorite elements, and the 360 camera view was super helpful in any situation (i believe it only can turn on below 5 mph). the dual screen, despite it being slightly outdated, i never had issues with it and it always paired perfectly with my phone and even loaded the album covers which was a nice touch compared to your average car. the twin turbos were one hundred percent my favorite part of the car, i could be in any tricky situation and get out of it easily. the turn radius of the car wasn’t amazing, but i never had any issues with it either. if you know what you’re doing (u turns, regular turns) it is honestly just fine. the steering wheels pressure and feel while driving was honestly really nice too, and it made me feel like i was in control of the car. however those seats are so fucking cool and i love the red stitching. everything about this car was very sports like, and honestly it’s not an ugly car at all. i’ve had a few infiniti’s in my life, and it definitely is way faster and nice compared to my previous ones. don’t bash this car, honestly it’s super fun to drive and is super comfortable to ride in too. the only thing i’d like to see is that hybrid element between gas and electric, like a previous infiniti i drive was (i can’t remember the model name at the moment). definitely worth it though, even in 2021 the 2018 model is still awesome. the red sport version is 100% worth the money.

My stinger put down 330whp and 370wtq stock so roughly 400hp and 425 tq. The 335 put out 320whp stock and weighed less than both he Infiniti and Kia stinger. The q60 put down 380whp stock so about 450 hp. My q60 and stinger with a downpipe, intake and a tune put down over 530hp and walk m3s and similarly modded 335s and even 340s for far less money. madPaulX - wrong, Renault is a large shareholder, but Nissan still holds majority and they own 20% of Renault. Nissan has ZERO Renault parts in their autos.
      The Q50 shown here has the same VQ series engine Nissan has been perfecting since the early 2000s and the same 7 speed automatic transmission from the mid 2000s G series; both of which are absolutely bulletproof.
      Nissan and Infiniti are extremely reliable, minus the low tier models such as the Sentra and previous gen Altimas. Infiniti compete by offering a near European car experience, minus the reliability issues, at a much lower cost than their Euro counterparts.
      They achieve this primarily by integrating many “outdated”, but dependable components, keeping manufacturing costs down.

    I find it kind of weird that none of these popular car reviewers mention that the Q50 RS is seriously underrated from the factory. It doesn't have 400hp. It has ~375whp and ~350wtq, which means the bhp is roughly 15-18% higher than 375, which is about ~430-450bhp. The Silver Sport is closer to 400bhp than the Red Sport is.

      The way the door sounds when it opens and shuts is a big indicator on build quality on cars . Compare the doors on this car and than do the same with a bmw 5 series or a E class benz, way different.

      The sound of a door closing may be somewhat of an indicator of body structure only not engine quality. BMW and Mercedes may sound better but the engines fall apart after a few years.

    The reason the Q50 doesn’t have cooled seats, panoramic sunroof and the Maxima does is because the Maxima is Nissan’s flagship sedan, but the Q50 isn’t Infiniti’s flagship sedan. It’s dumb; I know. I don’t mind the dual screen layout, it just needs an updated navigation screen. Those graphics are from 2004.

    Also my older Infiniti had very few maintenance issues unlike my current 2013 X1 with the 3 l turbo that goes real nice back and forth to the shop. Really doubt if Mercedes or Audi would be any less expensive to own. Also I think the interior materials fit and finish of this car are great, and the info screen is light years ahead of bmw for ease of use. Love the optional emergency braking system that I hear Infiniti invented. Really comfortable ride and awesome power. You have to spend a lot to get a 3 liter turbo in a car these days as everyone is going to 4 cylinders boring.

    I'm really not understanding your hate for this car it's completely over critical
    For 1. It's the sharpest looking of ANY Japanese sports sedan and maybe one of the angriest looking sports sedans in the world short of a 3 series Or an Audi
    For 2. The VR30 outmatches any engine aside from a BMW when it comes to sports sedans
    For 3. I think your seriously caught up in the new transmission hype , the 7AT has been in infinitis since 2008 and it hasn't lagged and still delivers power directly when you step on it, it's a Nissan not a Ferrari it's not gonna have a dual clutch 8 speed Jesus Christ
    For 4. For 55-60 thousand dollars you can't beat it when it comes to sedans unless you want maybe a Dodge Charger scat pack or something of sorts, you complain about luxury and infotainment but your essentially asking someone to pay 65-80 thousand dollars because it has a digital dash or 1 " better " infotainment screen
    You really sound horribly biased when it comes to this car and the Infiniti Q50 red sport or not is an amazing car , unmatched reliability and pretty reasonably priced

    What's with all the hate for the Nissan/Infiniti 7AT? I have a 2014 Q50S 3.7 and I never really had much of an issue with the 7AT. The gear ratios are quite aggressive and with the downshift rev-matching and adaptive shift logic it seems to be pretty sport-oriented yet still refined enough with regular updates to the software since its introduction. I know the early 7ATs in the G37s had a few issues which were mostly resolved with a TSB software update, and their were more updates for it in the 2014 Q50 to make it smoother & more refined. And the shift logic was updated once again for the 2016+ models. Surely it's not a class-leading transmission, and I'm sure that Infiniti will be coming out with either a new 8 or 9-speed auto or maybe even a DCT in the near future, but I still feel the 7AT is adequate enough and certainly isn't a bad transmission.

      If you've ever own a dual clutch or even just compared the 7spd in the Q50 to the 8 speed ZF you'll see why it really does kinda suck. It just has all the characteristics behind why they are called slush boxes. If they paired it with a capable transmission it would be light years better. I love mine, but the tranny does take some getting used to when coming from a real one like the DSG on my previous S4.

    • @crazyjkz
      @crazyjkz 6 лет назад

      ms3er What exactly do you mean when you say it has the typical characteristics of a slushbox automatic transmission?

    • @ms3er396
      @ms3er396 6 лет назад

      Slower to shift. You can feel the torque converter kick in. The best way to describe it from 1st to 2nd there's a slight pause then the power hits. On slick or wet roads it will cause my AWD to kick the rear end out. That pause/lag/delay, etc. whatever you want to call it is why it's a "slush" box. It's not crisp like "ice" it's soft like slush. Newer ZF's are much better as they are designed and tuned differently. IMO Infiniti needs to parter with MBZ more on Transmissions than motors. They have a nice Dual Clutch on the QX30 for the 2.0t it uses. Way nicer than our transmissions. Unfortunately that particular one won't likely hold the torque/power the 3.0t delivers thus likely why they don't use it.
      Contrast that to a real DSG that literally shifts like a video game. No pre-load pause then hit of power. DSG's shift as if it's just a natural progression of strong power. Drive one. That's best thing I can say in terms of the differences. I miss the DSG in my S4 more than anything.

    The 7-speed automatic is the car's weakest link? #bruh I'm sick of hearing that from *ALL* car reviewers. In America, most people don't drive manual and the *LARGE MAJORITY* don't want manuals, which is why most manufacturers are eliminating them permanently since no one buys them when they make them. They're losing money and, yet car reviewers are like, "Manuals! Manuals!" It's irritating af hearing that unrealistic stuff from you guys. I have the Silver sport 3.0t (300HP). Its not as fast as the Red sport, but when in Sport+ mode its still a rocket. The lease I received was unbelievable. O down No fees with a very affordable monthly payment for 3 years (much love to Infinity of Orland Park). Your right about that options gap Nissan/Infinity put in place when comparing package options between The Maxima and the Q50 Red sport. I had a 2016 Maxima SR. You couldn't get a sun roof in that version, but for $38,000 you could get all the safety features as well as cooling seats. The downside was the CVT. Which wasn't that bad, but felt odd at times, being that the MAX has 300HP, front wheel drive, as well as the front wheels being responsible for turning. I have a feeling that the 2019 Q50 will shorten the gap (if not surpass) with its competitors when gets its redesign. The 2019 QX50 looks like a mini QX80, and is sporting a new VC Turbo engine. Sadly the only transmission available is CVT. Which means its possibly going to be a front wheel drive with available (AWD).

      Rouge 1972 Check out Z1 Motorsports videos, with down pipes, exhaust and a tune they got your same car to 440+ hp and 600+ ft lbs torque : ). I think their best 1/4 mile was 11.09 @ 124mph.

      The lease deals on the Redsport are crazy and that's a leading value reason I picked one up. $62k car for just over $500 mo with nothing down on a 12k mile per year lease. Had an S4 and loved it but a new $64k one leased out crazy high. No comparison.

    I have a 2006 Q50 3.0T and I love it! I have had the car for over two years and zero issues, I had a G20 years back and never failed. Some people are all about German cars, not me...I love this car! I'm planning to get another one once my lease is up.

  • @BkRealistzzz
    @BkRealistzzz 6 лет назад +3

    The most important bit of information is at the very end. The main appeal of this car is the lease undercuts germans heavily. You cannot get a comparable german car for 0 down $450/month

    • @b1uezea1ot
      @b1uezea1ot 4 года назад

      Q50 has much worse gas mileage, more expensive insurance premium, no free maintenance. Count those in, you can probably lease a new M340i as well. Doesn’t make any sense to lease this junk

  • @ROMSradio

    Don't listen to the haters. This review is spot on. From comparisons to the germans, to problems with the transmission. You are right, vehicles under the Nissan umbrella often have samurai sword engines with meh peripherals. Great cars though their engines have always been my favourite. It's like driving a mini-skyline all the time and who wouldn't love that.

    Video game like feel? Really? There's no video game experience that will give you that feel, I know this because I bought the Xbox 360 steering wheel nearly a decade ago and Forza 2 and it did not give me the feel that I was driving a full luxury vehicle. Not even racers at Arcades give that feeling.
    You guys need to come up with a better explanation of the electro-steering than try to claim it feels like a video game. That explanation doesn't fly anymore.

    Still one of the best looking cars in the class, but I agree no panoramic roof is a deal breaker for me.
    The best $50k cars offer that. If you don't have it, you're a cut below, a cost-cutter. Kia Souls have that

    It’s not a compact sedan. My gfs Nissan Sentra is a compact sedan, Hyundai Elantra is a compact sedan, a Honda Civic is a compact sedan. This is a regular sedan like the BMW 3, Audi A4, Mercedes C class, Honda Accord, etc.

      The Q50 is definitely NOT compact sedan. It's bigger than it looks inside. Outside it's just a couple inches bigger than an S4 but inside the back seat has more room for sure.

    Great review. The bias is tough though... The competitors that you mention are WAY down on power. C43 = 362 hp / 340i = 320 hp. Infiniti needs to further differentiate from Nissan, that's for sure, but the Q50 is an insane vehicle in it's segment. They should get an 8sp transmission from it's partner MB that will elevate performance. Many of the gripes can be fixed at the dealer. DAS no problem... don't get it. Run Flats? No charge performance tire package. It's a nice car with great looks with imperfections. Like most cars on the road.

    I wish the lip spoiler was either body color or chrome to match and blend the car better. That black is kind of odd imo back there just not matching the rest of the car. Like the Camry xse has that black lip spoiler, but they took away the chrome so it does not look odd.

    One issue with the Infinity info Screens, they do not turn off independently. Also the GPS screen should have a screen saver, it will save someone from looking at the routes to their job, gym or supermarket every time the driver goes there.

    If you are not happy with DAS try changing it in Personal mode to Standard/default for both Effort and Response. Perfect IMO. Also, ditch the stock Runflops. They are absolutely the WORST Tire in the world. Put on a set of performance all season or summer only and you will transform the ride, handling and responsiveness of the car completely. No exaggeration. I'm still blown away about how dramatically it changed the car.
