- A very different style of video today. It's late into the evening and I've headed to Maidstone to visit an Indian Restaurant known as Shamrat which is rated as one of the best Indian restaurants in the whole of Kent. Looking forward to this one!

Hi Gary! My father’s funeral was on Wednesday and in the weeks leading up to his death he introduced me to your videos. We would watch them together and we’d have a good time doing so. He loved your catch phrase in particular. Thank you for lifting his spirits when he really needed it, mate. I’ll always be tuning in with those memories in mind. I wish you all the best!
Edit: Thank you all for the kind comments of love and support. It means a lot!
🙏🙏
Your message…. impressive…. Take care Ryan! ❤
My condolences to you and your family 🙏
@@ryanlawson6416 my condolences to you 🙏
Hugs from London x
Gary. You’ve not only got 105k subscribers, but have made 105k friends who all love you ❤
That’s so kind of you to say and I really feel we have all built a wonderful community here
I love this community and I love this channel. Gary you're a star❤
I feel I should say highfive to the cameraman aswell. Coming from one who can't take a photo I really appreciate the quality of these videos! You both make an excellent team❤
Indeed he has, I remember the channel when he had only a few thousand subscribers and have watched it blossom into a juggernaut of flavour, such a great community on this channel and long may it continue
Thing I love about you Gary is how honest you are. A lot of food reviewers pick up any food and go "Woah, it's amazing!" but when you have videos where you say the food is top drawer and some where you say it's not so great, I know I can definitely trust you. Food at this place looked great, really felt like it made itself unique compared to other Indian restaurants you find.
Unlike other food well reaction channels who stick with same old same old, have no knowledge of food fish and chips, don't like spending money and then moan about budget supermarket ready meals.
I shop at Aldi and Lidl but buy fresh food.
And of course any restaurant visit should be an experience and a pleasure, not going on about how they like their eggs bacon etc and what they have at home lol
I don't like the the Yt- thumbnails. Gary is ace.
I really appreciate that. You have to be honest otherwise there’s no point doing them, thank you!
Exactly, one thing that annoys me about Floyd is the way he says "oh fantastic" & it's hardly hit his tongue .
Watching this at around 2.30am in the morning and it has made me hungry. Just been downstairs and the best I can do is a bowl of bran flakes !!!
That’s not quite the same is it?
@@GaryEats It’ll keep him going anyway…
Brilliant 😂
@@rosemarymee who cares lol
She was making a joke about pooing 😢@@carlbland68
Late night dining usually means that you've had a good day first.
You can understand that they'll charge you a few bob more, and if the food is good, everyone wins.
Very good way of putting it
The food does look yummy! Another funny quote from you Gary: “There are some specials in restaurants that are not special…but this is special!” 😄👏👏
Lol thank you Sudakshina
I’m in Australia where it’s 3.10am and it’s a great night for insomnia when I get a notification saying you have a new video out!
Thank you so much for watching Debra
I'm in Oz too Debra... doesn't it drive you mad knowing all this gorgeous food is 10000km away?!
No vest Gary? What’s going on mate?
@@alansmith2426 it sure does and it doesn’t matter what time it is if I watch one of Gary’s videos you can guarantee I’ll get hungry! A couple of Tim Tams did the job this morning!
Morning! Fellow Aussie 😊
I feel like I must complement you on every single video you make, no glits and glamour just Gary the man being honest and factual on every review you do. Brilliant stuff and I genuinely wish you all the best for the channel, I am subscribed to quite a few food review channels but nothing comes close to yours, cheers mate.
Wow, thank you! What a lovely comment to read
Hi Gary! We colonists celebrated our Independence Day yesterday, with hotdogs and burgers.
I'm glad you aren't driving and have an opportunity to enjoy a nice beverage!🍻
Your late night dinner looks interesting and delicious! 😋
Thank you for bringing us along!
Safe travels. 💜
Happy Independence Day and thank you!!
The view's of the food dishes are superb thanks to the cameraman, and you're very indepth description of the ingredients, and tastes are exceptional. You sure know your stuff, that's for
sure. I agree with the 9 score and to hell with the cost.
That's very kind of you Chris, thank you for that lovely comment
That food looks fantastic and because of the way Gary describes it you can almost taste it! Another fantastic video ❤
When the last service is as good or better than the first in any restaurant, you know you are going to get quality food that is value for money. That is the impression I am getting from Gary's review. Great video.
Add to that speed of service & I have never seen a Cobra that big 😮
I always avoid being first in to a restaurant, might get left overs and being last in restaurant, limited menu
Spot on
(288) What a feast!!! And Shamrat has no fear of flying in the face of tradition having a dish that has red wine AND Cognac in it. Krish Ashok (author of "Masala Lab) griped in his book how Indian chefs have such a burr under their saddle about adding a splash of alcohol in their cooking. Which reminds me to get some nice port and sherry to pep up my food. And YES PLEASE more late-night uploads would be great. Thanks, Gary!!!
Spot on! I was shocked when I saw it on the menu lol
An Indian local to me in Barkingside (Birashwamys) which has sadly now closed had a house signature dish which had a rich red wine sauce. An absolute winner.
One of the many things to love about your videos Gary is that there is so often something that is 'new' even to an old foodie like myself! .. I would have gone for that King Prawn Balti with a Plain Naan and some spinach as a side...and in so doing I would totally have missed out on that chicken dish!!! curry spices AND a red wine/brandy flambee??!!! I would NEVER have thought of that!
Thank you Wendy and great minds think alike in this case!
Spain Germany game will have to wait. Gary Eats has priority. Looking forward to the review. Have a great weekend everyone. Enjoy the matches.
Just be happy it's not England vs Switzerland. What better Gary Eats's video or Jude Bellingham's goal?
Lol Bino. Thank you and enjoy the matches.
Spoiler : Spain 2 Germany 1 ....
I might save this one for the England game!
Great review Gary. I use to live in Maidstone literally round the corner from the Shamrat and used it regularly for dining in and takeaway. The owner Jamehl is a great host and extremely friendly, always offered a pint on the house or a very large glass of wine. The food was excellent especially the Jhinger king prawn starter, massive prawns in a green masala cooked in the tandoor.
Keep up the good work 👍
Matt.
That’s absolutely fantastic to hear, Matt. I was very impressed with the quality of the food.
I have not had an Indian meal in years and now I am wanting one lol. Your reviews always make me want to have whatever cuisine you are eating. Those prawns, wow! They were really huge. Such a fun review as always and yes, looking forward to late night ones like this one. Thank you again.
That's great to hear, I'm glad I get your taste buds flowing lol
Gary… you are so polite, kind and your reviews are so honest, pure and simply clear! If someone like you had a political position... everything would look so much better and more beautiful! Just realize that! This is how your videos work. Thnx!!
And you know… I’m vegan but still enjoy your videos!! 😉
Thank you ever so much, so lovely of you
Great review! I always get stuck on Cobra or Kingfisher! Any tips?
Another fabulous looking table of food. I have never tried okra before and I've just looked up an Indian recipe for crispy okra which I might just try. Another great review Gary and not forgetting cameraman keep up the great work.
@@SLEEPYSID99 An okra curry is great. It’s not an easy vegetable to cook because it can go kind of gluey.🥴
Pricey, but when the food came out you could see where the money went. Excellent presentation, quality looked good, and good portions as well. Also yeah I think more night reviews would be really cool Gary 👍
Spot on. Unusual to see rice and naan included and thanks for letting me know
Welcome back Gary....as always!! Loving the reviews and still keeping me positive!! Cheers and thanks again! Stephen.
My pleasure Stephen, hope you are doing well
@@GaryEats. Yes thanks Gary. Chemo on Monday and not suffered too much this time. Happy days and feeling positive. Cheers.
Top notch there Gary, great to see something other than the standard Indian fare.
Spot on Dave.. this was a step above
The only place you could get something to eat that late at night here in Western Australia would be a fast-food outlet. That restaurant was lovely inside. It didn't look like an Indian restaurant at all. More like a country pub. They took a lot of care with the dishes.
Plenty of places open in Northbridge at that time on the weekend
@@rogercooke4589 I didn't know that. That's good for people that are out late.
This was an excellent restaurant, Joan in the UK Indian restaurants tend to stay open until about 11
It was an amazing nighttime review we love your videos the first one we viewed was the Mexican restaurant at surrey quays and weve watched every upload since
Thank you Ray. You've stuck with the channel for a while now and I really appreciate that
*There’s nothing Nothing better than a Good Curry house when the fancy takes you 🥘💯👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻*
Again, super impressive- fresh, quality and quantity. I have only ever tried a handful of dishes,so I do watch with interest learning the details of each dish from you Gary. I really really fancy some now.
Exceptional Review !!
@@uglenddalejones2 I find the only downside to watching Gary’s videos is the fact that they always make me hungry. I feel like knocking up a curry now and it’s 3.30am in my part of the world.
Thank you ever so much Glenda. Really was lovely and the food was excellent... a bit different to what you usually get
@@GaryEats it’s always good to change it up Gary.i welcome more to come ☺️☺️
@@debrafrost5264 I’m actually ready for an Indian meal that is cooked for me rather than make my own which happens far too much when alone. It inspires me very much. I get even- I go and get something sometimes lol
It's good to see YOU! Always! The nighttime review is a great idea, it adds a calm and relaxed atmosphere. By all means, do more of them. 🙂
I’m glad you enjoyed them. I’ll definitely do some more in the future.
Great video as always! The food looked fabulous 👍
Thank you 😋
Not cheap, but both quality and portion size looked top notch. Thanks for another great review Gary!
Thanks for watching!
Love the atmosphere with night time meals. Hope you do some more. Great video at usual.
Spot on
I like the atmosphere. Looks really nice and cozy!
Was very rustic for an Indian restaurant
Hi, Gary. Wish there was an Indian restaurant of this quality for when I finish work at 11pm! I preferred Lal Toofan to Cobra back in the 90's. Back then, both beers were imported from India and were wonderful, but a company that also brewed Carling (yuk) and English Heineken (yuk) in Burton-upon-Trent took charge. Long story!
Much as I love contemporary Indian restaurants, I also miss those 80's-90's ones with the fluck wallpaper, seats like thrones, beautiful music, Hindu art, and tbh - food more or less as good as you'd get today!
Top post, pal 👍.
Oh, I loved the flock wallpaper too!
@@rosemarymee And the hot towels in warm lemon water to wipe your hands with!
You’ve got me salivating at all of those choices and thank you
Another evening without electric because of war, sciatica giving me hell, wild turkey bourbon as the base of old fashioned and Gary eats in a superb Indian restaurant makes it all OK again 😂🎉😂
Gary, yet another superb review. A far cry from the atmosphere and ambiance of some of the Indian restaurants of my youth at Eleven at night. Amazing to keep watching your channel.
The very kind to say thank you very much. It’s the best time to go, especially after a few pints.
Gary, you're on a roll unearthing two gems this week. This selection looked fantastic. Have a great weekend.
Thank you very much, Bernie. You have a great weekend too.
😍😍😍😍😍 Love your videos Gary!!
Thank you ever so much
Let's give it a go!
Always give it a go Richard
Damn right. Lets give
it a go!
Lets give it a goo!!!❤

If you were an Irish RUclipsr that specialised in true crime rather than food reviews would you say 'let's give it a gooo?'
That was quality all round Gary and such excellent value for money. Easily enough for two people. Excellent service and lovely restaurant. Thoroughly deserved your 9/10 score. Many thanks for bringing this Friday evening presentation to us, much appreciated. Delicious 👍👍👍
Appreciated as always Andreas, hope you are ok
@@GaryEats Thanks Gary. Everyone involved in my care say that cognitive function is good but unfortunately, physically, mobility is deteriorating. Your posts are a major boost, morale wise and enjoyment, so keep doing what you do. Highlights of the week. Not a lot of enjoyment in our world overall, these moments may seem trivial but they mean so much. Thank you again Gary 😀👍😀👍😀
Really enjoy your videos Gary and all the different food thanks 😊
So nice of you Fiona
Hi Gary, It's about 3.30am here in Sydney! A very late night for me & I was just about to go to bed & saw a new "Gary Eats" pop up, so bed had to wait a little longer. Ha! 😊 The dishes looked really good. I do love some Indian cuisine myself. Seemed like a pretty chill atmosphere in the restaurant too. The prawn dish looked especially appetising. Wishing you & your son, the cameraman all the very best as always. You two are a fantastic team. Ps: You guys just had a heck of an election result! 💙
3:30am wow that's very late! Hope I haven't disturbed your sleep and yes I saw it this morning!

Late night feast with a beer is always good !!
The best Mark lol, needed that it's been a while
Well worth a trip to Maidstone Gary.
Meal looked stunning and am sure it tasted as such.
Nice old building with a calming atmosphere and great wooden beams!
Well worth the trip Roger
Everything looked so amazingly delicious...especially the prawn dish. Thanks Gary. Happy to see you enjoy your meal.
Thanks so much
I always enjoy your shows
Thank you ever so much
I’m a Kentish man of a very similar age to Gary living in Malaysia who has been watching these vids for nearly a year. I love the fairness and the sense of humour…
Wow very lucky, I've heard wonderful things about Malaysia and thank you
Mate, that looked incredible! Congrats on 105k subs, well deserved.
Thanks a ton!
Hahaha. Your French is brilliant! Well done. The dishes looked amazing. You chose well. Glad you had a great time. Thank you.
Thank you ever so much Sylvia lol
Yay
Hello Mohammed
Can't beat a late night ruby - few jars (then a few more) and a curry - great night out !
Nailed it Greeno lol, had many in my day
It's great watching you order the things I've never even considered. I would order all that you had. Great review and well done Eats Jnr for being the Chauffeur.
Thanks so much! 😊
Thank you Gary. Looked great. First thing I noticed when the food came out was the charring on the naan and it didn't disappoint.
Absolutely nothing disappointed me on this occasion Mark
A late night curry spot 👍
Yes it was Nigel!
You must have confused the waiting staff, you were probably the first sober customer they'd ever served at that late time! Balti means bucket in various Indian dialects, the metal dish it's usually served in is a karahi. Food looked pretty bog standard to be really honest, on looks alone I'd give it a 7/10. Thanks for the upload!
Fair enough and thank you
Top review Gary. These reviews are done, with care and are always respected. A glimmer of light, in what is sometimes a very dark world.
Thank you Dale
what seperates Gary from other food reviews on YT is the road saftey aspect he adds!
That is so funny, Andrew thank you very much
Cant beat a good rich indian sit in or takeaway especially tomorrow when england beat switzerland gary...🏴
i really hope you do, that'd mean the whole football crap would finally stop here😂
cheers from switzerland
Lets hope so Johno! Doubt it though lol
Thought you were too busy with Keir appointing you minister for food and drink to post a video tonight Gary but then I realised he doesn't work after 6 on Fridays. So I guess it will have to wait until Monday. 😜 This food looks lovely. Making me really hungry watching the video. The balti looks like Mexican fajitas the way it's served on a hot griddle.
Very very funny lol, thank you so much
Balti was the prawn one in a bowl
Hi Gary, your menu choice had me salivating it looks amazing.
It did taste very good, Jared
Another great review Gary. The food looked so delicious and I did chuckle when you were examining the prawn - the disbelief on your face 😂 x
Thanks so much Amanda and they were huge! 👍
Gary, I am scared of the dark. Stop doing these nighttime reviews.
Then again, if you can have a beer or two why not?👍👍 Caneraman aka designated driver.
Lol exactly Patrick, you've nailed it lol.
Labour Government? Let's give it a go!!
Unfortunately unlike a bad meal we won't be able to send them back if we don't like them
Yeah, you wait till you get the bill 😂
Please, no politics in here.

That looked really nice, the prawns were huge. I struggle to eat a lot of foods due to swallowing issues but love watching your reviews and imagining what it would taste like, especially Indian food 😊

Looks good Gary. I think I might need to try it there.
Thanks for the review.
Any time and you should Chris
Great review. This is EXACTLY the sort of food and drink I would love for late night curry. Everything, absolutely everything was right, including the restaurant. No fuss, just great Indian cuisine. For me, a perfect, faultless 10.
That’s a great score, thank you very much
Looks great….that Ochra looks so fresh and absolutely spot on! Really decent sized portions too!
I agree with your whole comment
Thanks Gary, I work in Maidstone & have never tried the Shamrat but I'm going to now after your review, thank you🙂
You won’t be disappointed him a very good Indian restaurant
Another great video Gary 👍🏻 I save them up and then watch them during my fortnightly chemotherapy..thanks 👏🏻

Great review as always Gary. Food looks fantastic, keep up the superb content mate. Great food review channel.
Thank you kindly as always Jack
Thats a cracking review Gary, i love my bindi too.Thanks.
That’s very kind of say, Tony thank you very much
I loved the sauce on that prawn balti, so thick just as I like it, in fact I had the very same dish last night at work, home-made although the prawns weren’t quite as big and plump, these looked amazing! But have to say my dish was very enjoyable too!😋
It was thick and really top drawer
I like Gary after dark. A beer in him and he’s all relaxed and chilled. Great food helps also.
It’s a good idea to see how good food is when the restaurant staff are nearing the end of the shift and fatigue may set in.
Obviously not the case here.
Another subtle variation of a restaurant review - too work Gary.
Love the idea of a Gary After Dark Channel 🤣👍
😂😂 thank you that’s very kind
Always love watching your reviews gary. The food looked lovely so glad you enjoyed it👍👍
Oh lovely Helen thanks so much
Brilliant video!!! Great review, pricey but you can see the quality of ingredients and the quality of the food produced.
Hope all is well, take care and have a great weekend
This was an excellent Indian meal, Peter and a restaurant. I’ll return to you. Take care and have a great weekend as well.
As always, you gave it a go and scored a knockout. The food looked fantastic, and your description had me drooling. Sorry about that, lol. Great review and, I think, well worth the trip and price.
That’s very kind to say, thank you very much
Fantastic video, Gary. Thankyou
Thank you
That looked good, can see why it's popular. I cracked during this one - as soon as I heard the sizzle from the special, I legged it to the kitchen, knocked something together! As for doing more late-night reviews, I say "Let's give it a go" As you know, there's a few hidden places out there, that are used by night workers. Personally, I find the unseen world that keeps life ticking over, whilst the majority sleeps fascinating. Cheers again Gary!
I will definitely do more nighttime videos, thank you
Looks fantastic. Indian food is my favourite. I'd definitely go there if I'm ever in the area (and in England again). Another great review!
Thanks Siobhan!
Really enjoy your reviews. I discovered your channel when you reviewed The Woolpack Inn from Emmerdale and so glad i did. Keep them coming Gary.
Wow that feels like a very long time ago now Andrew
Great review Gary. Food looked delish. Yes to more evening reviews please.
More to come, Mike, thank you very much
Gary another great review on a fine eating establishment.food looked very nice, and those prawns weren't a bad size. Myself enjoys a good prawn curry when I can get one. Watch all your videos, because they are so easy to watch and BS. Always a honest review. Keep up the great work. Love from Coventry.
This very kind and appreciated, David thank you very much
Really appreciate you showing us a late night restaurant video been many years since I indulged in a late dinner
Believe this was good value for money ❤
I have more planned, Andrew thank you very much
Wow what a wonderful restaurant. I know Maidstone well after working from Rock house off the A20 for many years in security systems. I am sure I have visited those premises maybe not that customer. Indian is my favourite. Last one was Whitlesea by Peterborough, an incredible experience on my 50th wedding anniversary last year. My sister and husband retired from Birchington Kent to Whitlesea. You have incredible quality and service. If I am ever back in Maidstone it's a must.
Completely agree with you Kenneth!
Hey - evening - will look forward to this ! / Wow - does look a nice table of food. / That is some huge tasty meal for sure, the prawns (which I do not have often) looked epic. / Very impressed indeed with that Gary, great video as always. / mark.
Top man as always Mark and I hope you’ve been keeping well
Good evening Gary, love your new late night approach. Was watching Thriller earlier and your video appeared like Magic. Garlic is good to keep the Vamps away.

@@GaryEats I am not the best Gary at all (I mentioned said things in the email I sent yourself) but have to try I suppose
I will respond soon sorry I’ve been exceptionally busy
Another great, mouth watering vid Gary - thank you. You're braver than me wearing such a light shirt in a curry house but then you're probably less messy than me. That bindi bhaji looked fabulous.
Thank you very much and on this occasion I was very lucky
Loved seeing this! The food looked excellent. I find, when prawns are properly cleaned and cooked with the little bit of tail shell still on them, it's perfectly fine to eat the shell - it protects the tails from drying out and actually has a nice flavour - the little bit of crunch just adds texture. Think of it as a calcium bonus! I still need to find somewhere that has okra on the menu - I've never even seen it in cans over here! (not that I'd want canned okra to be my first taste - it would put me off, just as canned asparagus did for a long time! I dislike flabby vegetables!) Thank you for being out late, to try 'end of service', too. It just shows that when a place has a good chef, the standard is maintained regardless of the hour of day, and that speaks volumes. Great cinematography from the camera-son, too! Thanks guys! x
That’s very kind to say as always, Liz thank you very much and I’m with you. I don’t mind the Shell. X
That looks awesome! Loving the videos as always Gary 👌😎💪

Wow, Gary so glad I had just eaten my dinner when I watched this as l was salivating so much I would have jumped into my car to go to my local Indian restaurant!! Loved the look of the flambé chicken, like you I have never heard of this, it would like to try it. First time I have ever seen an Indian restaurant without table clothes? they must of known you were coming😂 so couldn’t resist!! Yes, please some more night time reviews would be interesting. Thanks for a great video Gary.
Thank you very much for watching and commenting Christine on this occasion. I thought the specials were amazing.
Another great video, opening shots brilliant, nice calm, clean and tidy restaurant. Then your sitting by the fire exit. Apart from the pesky flying thing. Seemed grand place to spend the evening. Cheers chaps Allan&Family
Thanks Allan, really appreciate it. I chose to sit there to keep away from other diners 👍
I've eaten here a few times and they do an amazing lamb Vindaloo. More sour than hot (as it should be) and just packed with flavour. I have Bindi Bhaji too and a special rice and Peshawari Naan. All delicious, yes it's expensive but the quality is excellent. It's a 9 every time. I'm so glad you enjoyed it Gary.
Another super review.
