In this video I show the steps and procedures necessary to release the electronic emergency brake system. In order to service the rear brakes new model F1 50s equipped it with electronic parking brakes. You first have to put electronic parking brake system (EPB) Into maintenance mode. If you do not you will not be able to retract the piston into the caliper during the brake install. I hope this video helps you out. If you have any questions please leave something in the comment section. Thank you for watching
I am soooo thrilled that you made this video. I was able to buy the brakes and rotors myself and change my own brakes and save several hundred dollars because of your video! Thank you!
This works. Note that he turns off ignition and then back on. The others show just press gas & cycle key with parking brake button depressed , which doesn't work
Photograph these directions with your phone
PUTTING TRUCK IN SERVICE MODE (MAINTENANCE MODE)
1.) Ignition in the on position
2.) Press and hold gas pedal
3.) Push down on EPB switch.
4.) Continue holding both down
5.) Turn ignition off, then
6.) Turn ignition on within 5 seconds
while holding down on gas and switch down.
Park Brake Maintenance Mode will display
on Message Center Dashboard.
7.) Ignition off, then release pedal and EPB switch.
PUTTING TRUCK BACK TO NORMAL MODE
1.) Ignition on
2.) Press and hold gas pedal
3.) Push up on EBP switch
4.) Continue holding gas down, and up on EPB switch
5.) Turn ignition off, then
6.) Turn ignition on within 5 seconds
while holding down on gas, and switch up.
7.) Release gas and EPB switch.
The only confusing part of these directions, is when it says to push
down on EPB switch, you literally put your finger on the lowest part
of the EPB switch, and push in (forward).
When directions say to push up on EPB switch, put your finger on
the uppermost part of the switch and push in (forward).
EPB is Electronic Parking Brake
* You can thank me later
Dude, not all heros wear capes. you get karma points for typing this out for us. having it handy on the phone while actually doing it was better than trying to remember or watching the video over and over.
@@slobert1970 Your welcome, my friend. Hope all went well.
Once successfully placing the vehicle in service mode, does this allow you to fully compress the pistons for a pad swap with a C clamp as if it were the front. Or do you still need to spin while compressing
Damn it didn’t work still says park break maintenance mode
Thanks for the info. You just helped me out. Appreciate it.
not all heroes wear capes! Thanks!!
Thanks, you save my life
Thank u for that useful info!!
Thanks! Worked first try.
Thank You man
thanks! very very helpful and clear with details 👍
Thanks for the video helped out alot
Thanks a million 🎉
Thanks for the help
Thanks bro, side job time :)
I’m so glad I found this video. The dealership wanted to charge me $150ish just to plug my truck into their computer… and over $400 in labor just to change out the rear brakes when I was supplying the brakes already.
Amazing, thank you!
Thank you sir. From ...Its a mechanic life garage
Hey everyone, so in the process but after removing one of my rear rotors i remembered the brakes needed to be in service mode. But during the process of doing so I accidentally applied the parking brake. Pads were still in the middle and no fluid leaking. Can they be compressed without having a scan tool?
Thank you bro!
Must you work on the truck with the key in the run or can you take the key out to work on the brakes?
You can turn it off
Hey thank you very much for the info awesome
You're awesome thank you
Thanks so much, dealership just tried to charge me $600 for changing the brakes 🙄
Great video. I have a 2018 Ford F150 5.0L and recently had to replace my entire Differential Axle(8.8 with electronic braking). I don't think my mechanic placed it in Brake Service mode before replacing it. Now the axle has been replaced and the vehicle is running good but my brake light doesn't stop blinking and there is a beeping sound that doesn't stop. Any idea?
I just turned mine pistions in . There is a threaded bolt in the center of them .
Once you've set it into maintenance mode, do you have to leave the key on some you change the brakes and rotors, or can you just turn the ignition off, then turn it back on and engauge the parking brake once you've finished with the r&r?
You are free to remove the key when changing the rotors and breaks, Once you have put the system into maintenance mode. When you’re finished with the job you need to take the system out of -Maintenance mode

Idiot Ford why they replace the traditional manual hand brake compare to this crazy idea epb which is another investment to car owner. Manual hand brake long last and no problem even 200 yrs or more. Ford bring back the manual hand brake so that owner will not invest for this shit epb
Hi Aaron, do you have to push OK for every message on the display? Maintenance Mode and then ok? Return to driving mode ok?
What happens if you don’t put it in maintenance mode first cause that’s what I did yesterday and now every light on the dash is on. . How do I reset it now
Following the steps and nothing is happening what do i do, i need my rear brakes, any suggestions?
Thanx for the free information brother143#ROGERTHAT
Got me out of a jam for my side job on a 2019 F150 with 3.5L ecoboost. Thank you!!
Wish I’d known this before just I broke my caliper🤦♂️
Same problem. 😂
Hello Aaron, I have a 2016 F150, with less then 32k miles, and rear brake and roto need replacement. The mechanic told me because I don't drive often and need to turn the electronic emergency brake off. Would this be a good idea?? Thank you.
Too much talking about shit that don’t matter
Thank you
Your
Absolutely amazing thank you so much 🙏❤️
MaybGod bless you 🙏❤️
Thank you! I could not compress my brake caliper for some new pads. Was driving me crazy
Sorry My Question Was Answered Thanks
Dude your AWESOME! I watch a different youtube video and the idiot that posted it said to hold down the brake and everything went crazy on me and i couldn't figure it out. I really appreciate you posting this cause it was a big help and calmed the soul thanks!
I dont know how but my boss messed up the service mode with the scan tool, thanks for the procedure to undo his f-up ;)
Thank you so much for this video, just another dealer truck to get you coming back, I’d rather do it myself, again, thank you!!!
Thank you!
This is the vid to watch i saw another one but he wasn't very clear on the exact procedure !!! Thanks again and glad i don't own this truck 🤣🤣🤣
This is the stupidest setup ever.
yup i hate this too
Does Ford Flex 2014 can be put on maintainable mode ??? To service
Thanks man. Everyone else explained the activation wrong.
I use this all the time. Thanks bud
What a bad idea instead of just using the steel wire and foot pedal or hand ebrake
To get rid of it just do the opposite instead of pushing e break in pull it out and repeat all same stpes
Thanks! I was able to get it into maintenance mode with my scan tool, but not get it back to regular service mode. Cheers.
Comment avoir la vidéo en français
What happens if you don't do that and you work on your breaks ?
Would it give a certain malfunction?
Or would nothing happen?
You won’t be able to compress the piston inside of the caliper. You can remove the caliper without doing the procedure. But you can’t install it back with new pads are on the truck
Aaron Hines So I just royally screwed things up before reading this post. I’ve done many brake jobs with no problem but this was the first one on my 2016 with an electronic e brake. I had already replaced the pads and couldn’t push the caliper back in. Read about this procedure and did it, except it fully extended the caliper piston and now I can’t get it to go back in and this is all with my wheel off. Following the procedure for taking it out of service mode does nothing and I just have the parking brake malfunction message on my dash now. Do you know of anyway to get this caliper piston back in or do I need to remove the electronic brake motor now in order to do this? Right now I am screwed with a truck stuck on jack stands.
Rich Ryan What ever happened with your truck? Im the same predicament with my daughters ford fusion.
Rich Ryan hello rich, what ever happened to you truck? Was there a procedure to get the piston back in? I did the same thing.
@@RichRyan3 hey what ever happened to your truck because I have the same exact problem now
Do you still have to bleed the brakes after your done
Just changed rear brakes on my 2018 F150 with 83,400 miles. Thanks for the help Aaron
Mine rolls back in park I have 2019
This worked fine to disable the park brake but after the brake job can't get it to cancel no matter what I do. Message says "park brake maintenance mode ". Bells are making me crazy!
Yep thats what my escape is doing now
Thanks this worked for me. Others did not!
I was at the break shop and I tell the guy you have to do this to make your job easier and that helps to get the job done the right way thanks for posting this video 👍🏾
YOU ARE MY HERO! Thank you!!
How do I get the epb to release with the calipers stuck out?
You are a like saver buddeee. Thanks.
Thank you! I was like wtf is going on
You saved by life by brotha
What happens when that motor takes a crap.
Before I knew about this, I had the caliper off, found out about this, and accidently messed it up, resulting in the parking brake to activate, which then pushed the piston all the way out of the caliper onto the ground. Thank Jesus I was doing the job with my mechanical engineer father in law, who, after he finished freaking out, was able to disassemble and reassemble the entire thing. Only took six hours for the brake job!
Hey kodi can you give us some tips on what he had done?
Thankyou!
Thank you
Is it also work with push buttons starting?
Thank you very good video and clear
Does the 2011 F 150 trucks have this feature ?
No it was released in 2015
Thank you buddy
5 stars
Excellent information thanks
Brother thanks for you video.
Thank you very helpful
Huge help, thanks for this!
sir, remove the caliper and I could not put the piston but I did what you said but with the caliper outside the rotor and the pistons came out as I can do to get into the caliper
from what i understand, you set the parking brake with the caliper removed correct? now the piston has been ejected out of the caliper and you have brake fluid everywhere?
Exactly
You can try to put the piston back in the caliper, open the bleed screw at the top of the caliper first. The push the piston back in with a c-clamp. If you can’t u would strongly suggest purchasing a new caliper from ford. Either way you go you must bleed the brakes after the repair
Thank you sir I buy a new calipers
Once it is in maintenance mode, can you turn off and remove the key?
Yes
@@AaronHinesAuto Thanks for your reply.
Thanks for the great info
Good stuff
Great info tanks!!!!
Thank you
Sweet...
Thank you for posting this instructional video. I have a 2018 F150 Ranch King FX4 (w/Electronic Rear Parking Brakes) and after watch six or seven different videos by others here stating their methood would work on my 2018 F150 truck none of them had worked. I finally found and watched your video and gave it a try and it worked for me. Now tomorrow morning I can change out all of the disc brake pads. Thanks Again!
would it be the same if you didn't apply the e-brake when you started working?
