    I have EUPD and PTSD, including depression but this has woke me right up and I've been able to focus on getting more done in a day that I haven't had the motivation for in years! I only have a 4th of a pill a day and although I have been a bit nauseous at times and overwhelmed,, I much prefer this, for there are so many more positive sides to it. Before being turned off by the association with Stevens-Johnson syndrome, look into the data. There has been one case of Stevens-Johnson syndrome reported in a patient trialing Modafinil and the dermatologist on the board reviewing the drug for approval voted to approve it saying that there was no indication that the Stevens-Johnson syndrome was at all related to the Modafinil use.
    This is not medical advice or a recommendation that anyone should or should not use any medication, it is just to clarify the facts so people can make well informed decision together with their healthcare providers.

    Been using it over 16 years. One in the morning. My Psychiatrist says it does not take much medication to work for me. Along with the normal effects one thing it does for me it keeps me from having reoccurring bad dreams. If I have a long day and I sleep over the time a single dose wears off I go back to experiences in dreams that were part of my initial problem. Also staying awake for a time over the 30 hrs. a dose lasts me, I start getting day dreams of the past that put me where I am. I would hate to try to survive without it.

    Thank you very much for making a video on this topic. It is good to know that it's used off label for depression. It gives me hope that videos like this will help take away the stigma attached to it's use as "smart drug".
    However, I still feel a provider in US might not prescribe it if I request for this. Based on my private trial experience of using it for 1-3 months (forgot how many med supply I had then), it helped me (effect starts within 1/2 - 1 hour after taking it) get started in the morning, helped me go to work or/and go out to go errands.I don't need to nap 1-3 hrs during daytime despite 10-11 hrs sleep per night.
    Without it or any other meds, I have been barely able to do my daily basic activities. But I fear that my provider will consider me as drug seeking if I request this specific med just because it's not a first line or commonly used one in the US.
    Sometimes when I have little better days, I think it's going to be ok without a med, but then the bad days happen, it leaves me feeling not wanting to do anything including sleeping, waking up, eating, going out, etc let alone making a call to the doctor's office or go see a doctor. In the past I felt like even if I get a regular antidepressant started, it will not help right away and I felt like I can't continue to suffer in this darkness while waiting for the med to start working.
    Maybe modanafil will be a good PRN med while starting on an antidepressant or waiting for the main antidepressant to start working (4-6 wks) i.e. if use of both doesn't lead to some adverse effects or serotonin syndrome or likewise.
    My depression I think is due to a medical condition that I am still waiting to be diagnose. I am waiting for my specialist's appointment; she is booked till Aug 2022 when I called for appointment in Feb 2022. So till my diagnosis gets confirmed, I have been braving through some dark months and have been trying to stay away (since July 2019) from using antidepressant, so that it doesn't affect my blood tests that will follow once I see the specialist for my hormonal issues.
    But someday soon after my tests get done, I would like to retry modanafil or/and antidepressants because I know even after I get my suspected diagnosis confirmed, it's going to be a long road to finding the right amount of replacement hormone doses and possibly adjunct meds to manage symptoms like depression.

      Wow.. I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling with your health. It sounds as though there is an underlying medical cause. I hope you get some answers. Also, talk with your doctor about modafanil and how well you responded to it, plus mention that you've tried other meds without success. Though it is not first line, its use can be justified in your case based on your history and current symptoms. Modafanil is not as addictive or has a much less abuse potential than other stimulants, so that shouldn't be an issue, but taking it prn until another medication takes effect is a good idea.

    • @MsFoundIT
      @MsFoundIT Год назад

      @@redpilljesus Hi there! Since I started seeing my endocrinologist last year i.e 2021 June end (I continue to see the same doctor every few months as the doctor instructs), there was a time when my doctor asked if I want to have a referral to sleep medicine specialist i.e. after the doctor heard some nurse in their clinic mentioned of someone in her life experienced similar sleepiness and got sleep disorder (I guess). But my having medical background and knowing my body, I didn't take that offer because I was sure this is hormonal related.
      Anyways, I finally officially got diagnosed with secondary adrenal Insufficiency, which is the same diagnosis that I have been telling since 2019 to my first 2 specialist doctors (1 local and Mayo clinic specialist) that I have; it's a complex process and lot of diagnostic tests to pick up the cause or issue.
      Anyways, eventhough doctors didn't mention anytime that the specific symptom of sleepiness needing naps is from hormonal or not, and neither do I remember coming across a literature or articles saying so. But with my experience as a patient and my observation as a patient and from a provider's lens, I think it comes on when my cortisol gets low. There are many other symptoms I get or could get when cortisol is low or getting low or not enough for me to function well. However being specific to sleepiness, I have noticed that starting my medicine hydrocortisone or treatment for the secondary adrenal insufficiency, has helped and I didn't need naps when I take the med in time. And on days when I have lab test or blood draw scheduled, I hold my morning hydrocortisone dose for the lab. And on those times or days, while coming back from the lab, I will start yawning continously and will later within an hr or so, will need 1.5-2hrs nap after getting home.
      In terms of Modanafil, last year I once asked my endocrinologist for her opinion on using it while time goes by with my various extensive lab tests to get diagnosed with secondary adrenal insufficiency. But she didn't feel comfortable I guess.
      Anyways, I am now being treated with my two hormone replacement (cortisol and thyroid) medicines, which has helped my overall symptoms but I am not close to being my old self i.e. pre, Cushing's disease (2010), which is considered "cured" but has a hand in me having this current diagnosis and Cushing's also leaves residual symptoms (fatigued depression) per literatures.
      I am a member of couple of FB support groups for this condition and I see lot of other people in the group shared the same thing or experience i.e. quality of life is not back at baseline. Thesedays I seldom feel sleepy during daytime needing naps or resting in bed and that too happens on days either I haven't taken my meds for some reason or if I have other issues/stressors (pain, infection, talking especially on phone s about stressful topics or dealing with difficult people etc) that increases my need for cortisol.
      Of the records, I used modanafil few times as needed for motivation because I still find myself not doing much of any home chores like washing dishes or cleaning that I wish to get done. Eventhough with the hormone medications, my depression is not severe and obvious as before. But I think it's lurking down there as not having interest in much.
      I don't know if I answered your questions well but I hope it was helpful and feel free to leave question if have more.

      No you cannot get this over the counter, in the US. As a US provider I am unsure of other country's regulations of this medication, but in the U.S. it is considered a controlled substance. Patients with Bipolar must be stable before trying any stimulant since there is a high risk for inducing mania, so typically stimulants are not advised.

      it can only be prescribed by a healthcare professional in the UK for: narcolepsy, sleep apnoea and for few off-label uses only authorised by specialists. it is not usually prescribed for mental health disorders in the UK/NHS. However, consult with your regular GP to take into account your full medical history and existing medications to consider any risks, side effects or interactions that could potentially affect conditions such as bipolar before starting any medications such as modafinil.

    • @LevelheadedMind
      @LevelheadedMind  2 года назад +3

      Hi, thanks for your question and sharing your experience. Trintellix is great for depression and can help with anxiety to a point. Modafanil can help with the symptoms of depression such as lack of energy, no motivation and fatigue. It does this by boosting both Dopamine and Norepinephrine. By increasing both of those neurotransmitters it can also help with attention and focus, and even cognitive function, which is why it got coined the "smart drug". However, it will not help with anxiety. In fact it may make it worse. You may want to add Buspar to the Trintellix to help with the anxiety. You can also increase the dose of Trintellix if you haven't maxed it out. If you haven't tried Bupropion, that may also help. The bottom line is, there are many options, so have this discussion with your doctor to decide which treatments will be best for you. I wish you the best on your mental health journey 🙏

      @@perrobravoperocastrado2286 hello. Unfortunately the modafinil did not provide that "refreshed" wakefulness feel I was hoping for that you would get from a good sleep. It did keep me awake in an unnatural, mental state and I couldn't fall asleep for a very long time.
      Physically my skin got itchy bc I feel like the modafinil does something to the blood vessels or something. Also my head hurts and lungs and heart hurt if I take too much. Overall this obviously shouldn't be taken for sleep apnea patients bc our bodies are already in a weakened state.

    Hello ma'am. I have been prescribed modafinil by by Doctor. I have been using it for several times but still..I feel sleepy and tired after taking the medication. It is supposed to work well opposite to what I felt. What can be the reason for my experience. Its a medication with lots of love and appreciation for its efficiency all around the world. But why not me?? Plz tell me what's your take on this. I have also taken armodafinil with no results. This armodafinil actually seems to be having a worst kind of issue with me. I get palpitations and restlessness. Basically m confused. Please help me out with my query. Thanks for your valuable effort in educating others with such excellent work. I❤ your videos. And m awaiting your response eagarly. Please let me know 🙏

      That is a paradoxical reaction or adverse effect. This can be from many things, but I would start by assessing your nutrient levels and checking your genetics for errors of metabolism.

    Ok. I took one. I am awake. I don't feel tired. After 12 hours, I still manage to go to bed at the normal sleeping hours. However, the sleep would be kinda light. The next day, I feel fresh. But after work, I feel sleepy but still kinda awake. Not sure if that makes sense. Modafinil should not have worked so long after one dose. Should I be worried?

    In general, I want to try antidepressants but then am scared reading online reviews n seeing videos reviews of antidepressant use.
    Personally have tried antidepressants but not long enough (less than 2-4wks) to see results except celexa. I was started on celexa 10 mg once a day in 2019 but after about 3-5 days of it's use, I got rash on both legs and itching. I braved through and stayed on it some more days but the rash and itch didn't go away. So I had to discontinue it before the end of 2nd week. But I did notice that in the 2nd week of celexa, i noticed feeling happy (automatically) and more positive, less anxious, etc. Rembering those little benefits, makes me wonder (when having bad days) if I should retry celexa.
    Does trying citalopram by a different company or bought from different pharmacy not lead to similar side effects or wondering if I get citalopram from different pharmacy, I might not get that rash and itching side effects. What do you think or has been your experience with rash and itching with citalopram or on using different brand citalopram or different pharmacy?
    Thank you very much.

      Hi petals. If you reacted to a dye in the manufacturers brand then it is possible, that it was the culprit, but really hard to say. Speak to a pharmacist and see what they say. They may know of such reaction. In my practice I have not seen that with Celexa, but have with other medications.

      Hi, I tried asking one of my doctor for modafinil for short term use until I get my other lab tests done to find out my diagnosis. I asked it for my depression and daytime sleepiness symptoms which I am thinking are due to some endocrine condition. But the doctor said that she is not experienced in this med and asked if I want to go see a Slepp medicine doctor to find out if I have some undiagnosed sleep disorder. This made me feel so hopeless and made me feel like I will never get answers to not omly my symptoms but will not get any help for symptomatic relief while I seek my correct diagnosis and try to keep my work or try to function daily. All I do as I wait to do my tests without my diet pill (that I take it energy) is eat, sleep, and no motivation. The message from the doctor made me feel like it's not worth doing anything or seeking care or treatment or living like this. So I am checking what else can I do so that I can return to work and be able to function and be productive on daily basis.
      I thought to ask you if do you do Televisits? Or do you recommend any telelhealth clinic/provider in the US that can prescribe modafinil for depression and daytime sleepiness?
      I don't expect much but needed to double check here. Thank you.

    • @LevelheadedMind
      @LevelheadedMind  Год назад +4

      Thank you CES, I am glad you are finding this channel useful. As for the insomnia... well first of all I am not an advocate for starting both of these medications at the same time. If you have a true comorbid ADHD and Anxiety, best practice is to treat the anxiety first, get that under control, before adding a stimulant that can exacerbate the anxiety.
      Second, both of these medications can also make insomnia worse. Make sure you are taking them early in the morning, then at night get a sleep hygiene routine. I discuss this in this video ruclips.net/video/AWrsfGgERoU/видео.html
      You can use extended release melatonin or magnesium glycinate If there aren't any contraindications, but all should be discussed with your provider. Thanks for watching the videos and I wish you well on your mental health care journey.
