I love Classic Vanilla because you can complete a class fully with BIS gear and then make another class to do it all over again. There is a sense of completion and the community is great. That being said, I'm all for Classic Vanilla + along the lines of OSRS.

      If it wasn't a MMO
I mean sure Blizzard _reshaped_ what it is to be an MMO, but before an MMO was meant to be grind.
But not competitive grind, oh no. It was meant to be a grind to just do a trivial chore with like 2 neurons of brain power, while you're doing school work on the sides. Think of a cookie clicker game, but a lot more social.
Mind you I'm explaining MMO in like, early 1990s. Early 2000s it was already taking shape to be something else.
Basically if you were looking for an MMO? You were actively looking for a home-away-from-home game. The mindset of "beat the game and be done with it" was retrograde to what an MMO wanted you to do.

Cataclysm was a very good expansion in terms of leveling through the zones, the dungeons being rewarding, and the raid content being challenging. A lot of hardcore Pvp players have stated cataclysm arena was the height of the arena scene and being a competitive player at the time I have to agree. The game was very good, people just don’t like change and a lot of people wanted the community, not the challenge.

I have no desire to play retail (or anything really beyond Cata). I am finding myself more interested in Hardcore (at least until I saw what happened on Four Horseman) as I am a casual player and would find it a fun challenge to see how far I could get before dying. Classic had its problems, not the least of which was unbalanced classes and meme specs, but it had a charm to it that I enjoy and find myself coming back to time and again. I would like some quality of life changes (shorter CD on hearthstones, a flightpoint in Northern Stranglethorn for Alliance, that sort of thing). I just returned to retail after not playing for 4 years, and it's a lot of fun. The game is currently so alt friendly ATM that if the meta shifted so drastically that my class didn't stand a chance it gives me a reason to master and level another class, and do expansion content I never did to max out another toon. I always said that I wish I was there from the beginning. Vanilla Classic wow release gave me that opportunity. Same thing with a friend of mine. I am having fun collecting rare mounts and going through the content. I was farming winterspring frostsaber with the first person to achieve it in my server back in 2019. It was a blast! Did a lot of research to learn about the game of course though. I wasn't able to play during BC but just came back and playing through BC and WoTLK content now, taking my time. It's fun but I wish the LFG worked cross-realm so I could play through the raids. I'd go back and play Wrath Classic if they had RDF. It was getting difficult to find a group for regular dungeons a few months after launch, never mind not being quite geared enough for heroic groups after hitting fresh 80. LFR can gtfo, but RDF this late in Wrath classics life cycle would be very much welcomed.

    • @KelvinUTUB
      @KelvinUTUB Год назад +2

RDF should exist for all non-relevant dungeons (Vanilla, TBC, Normal WotLK, Heroic WotLK and Heroic-Alfa WotLK). Only Heroic-Beta should require the LFG. This helps to clear a gap that would otherwise require to buy a ticket run to T7 or T8. Specially now that HeroB dungeons don't drop 80-Hero items like Cynanigosa's caster trinket in VH or the Meteorite in UP, but yet you still would have to burn your daily Heroic save to have a chance at it.
They need competing avenues to the gold-gated ways of gearing, whenever they are game-created or community-created. This would specially amazing for people playing alts or for people in dead servers.

A series of community events like massive world pvp battles in the arathi highlands and other world pvp zones, a whole community led war story that can be streamed sounds like it would help with player boredom and needing something to do as well as revitalize passion for the PVP scene. It could be turned into an event that can be looked back on in WoW history like the old days of leeroy jenkins or the infamous funeral crash. On top of that the AH, trading, and cross-faction stuff is all becoming more unified, so there is a lot of progress being made to get rid of servers entirely. I agree that it's ok to just finish a game, but I do wish wow had a bit more side content. You know, fun content that has nothing to do with making your character stronger. My favorite skyrim dlc is hearthfire for that exact reason. It wasn't a quest to save the world or get a legendary artifact, it was literally just "build a house." It's not a perfect match for what I'm talking about thanks to the garden that lets you grow alchemy ingredients, but I think it mostly fits. To be clear, I'm not advocating for garrisons, because garrisons were not houses. They were city replacements.

Feels like most WoW players would rather run around in circles in the main city, waiting for the next patch, than possibly considering playing other games in the meantime.
No game can hold the attention of an average player for eternity the way people expect WoW to.
Also, for context, I'm a semi-hardcore raider so it's not like I do the new questlines then peace. I'll play the game a lot when a patch comes out, then as I run out of things to do, I just log for raids/guild m+ groups, and play other games. Never gotten burnt out since Cata.

And no matter how OP your class was in 1:1 it didn't matter if 50 people trampled over you. And in DAoC we talk about PvP battles of 1000 vs 1000 on a regular basis. Guess how much it matters that you play the OP class of the month with OP raid gear if there are 1000 enemies chasing you. And guess what: because of that it is so fun that people still play DAoC PvP up to today, even though the game is mostly dead.

They NEED to drop end game solo content on retail for this game to be popular again.
People might have 45 minutes to play the game in one instance and they want to do a dungeon let's say, they log in the game, they spend 15 minutes in dungeon finder, don't get invited and exit game, because there's clearly not enough time left. Instead of playing the game, they look at a screen hopeless.
I experienced this a lot of times and I am easily going through end game content whenever I invest the time. I just don't always want to grind the dungeon finder "Find group" button.
Easy fix would be to give a separate solo M+ like thing that rewards same as group m+. Make it harder than grouping so that's harder for those with no time or friends in game to get rewarded, but give them the chance to play the game without frustrations of being left outside.
Look at how well the solo shuffle is doing. And it would do a lot better if queues weren't 15-20 minutes long. I for one enjoyed solo shuffle at the beginning of the expansion when I was putting enough time into the game, but right now playing it more casually, I'm not going to wait 15-20 minutes in queue just for someone to leave in the second round.
I still can't believe they didn't add a 2v2 version of this so that players don't have to wait 15-20 minutes for a healer to pop out in their queue. It's crazy they don't act on their issues.

PvP was ruined when they introduces Arena, thus starting to balance classes based on their 1on1 fights vs the other classes.... So they literally tested a mage against all classes and had to meet a certain level of equality, making sure a mage could handle all classes....
In vanilla certain classes just didn't have a chance, because obviously a simple man with a 2 handed axe is not gonna be able to handle a mage. A warrior should NEVER be able to handle a mage.
Don't care about your feelings, World of Warcraft Altrac valley was peak PVP in MMORPG.

I think one of the big things thats killing wrath is that gdkps still exist, nobody wants to lvl alts when it comes with a 100k gold price tag to get gear just for that gear to then be entirely useless because there is no content that's difficult. I still feel like they could have done so much more with the heroic+ content they did for dungeons, would love to have seen a endless scaling system like M+ without the tedium of having to get keys the rewards wouldn't even need to be gear could literally be a title and mount and people would almost 100% do it especially if they added an ingame leaderboard for the top teams who completed each dungeon at the highest lvl feeding off the minmax nature of classic players is almost 100% the way to go instead of trying to appease the people who wanna just raid log and pretend like they are 15 years younger.

What about Warlords of Draenor, did people beat the game that's why they had nothing to do? I completed FF14 MSQ and the end game content and felt like I had nothing to do too. I was cool with them either way, I can try out other things.

I think BFA and Dragonflight are well designed expacks. Dragonflights mechanics and gameplay were done a lot better than BFA. But world, character and quest design is vastly improved compared to previous expacks. The design philosophy of the more "retail" expacks is to urgently funnel people to end-game. The blowback is that it ruins the open world feel of the game and the rpg/mmo design loses some of the lustre that made it so appealing in Vanilla.
