I was as surprised as you spooks LoL I just watched your video and then asmongold's take autoplayed. I'm a WT CC also and am consuming lots of the CC takes on this. I make all my SL with premium destroyers so I can afford to play other modes
Addressing Asmongold's claims on player numbers. The problem with War Thunder is that unlike other MMO's, there's not really an alternative for people to go to. The entire tank combat market is pretty much monopolized by War Thunder and World of Tanks and the games are different enough that they basically split the entire market across the two niches so it's either you play the 1 game or you don't play at all.
@@YoNando In fact, most of the problems are the same across both games. Both games have both premium buy only and fomo vehicles that you can obtain only during certain events and risk missing out on forever. Both contain currency costs that do absolutely nothing outside of increasing the grind and prompting people to buy premium account. And both allow to people to skip normal progression by allowing to straight up buy research points. And that's before you get to the fact that you have to spade your vehicles, meaning newly unlocked vehicles will be substantially weaker compared to someone who just bought the damn thing for real money or that WoT has literal gold ammo that you buy for premium currency and you pretty much have to buy to maintain any kind of competetiveness in high tiers.
@@JurasJankauskas Just to correct u, wargaming does suck as a greedy corporation, but gold ammo has been a ''f2p'' ammo for a while now, it doesnt cost premium currency, just so much more silver then the regular ammo that it makes it only affordable for people at least paying a little bit in the game
@@poptart3900 Good to know. War Thunder is my main game, so all my WoT knowledge is at least 5 years old. Though I do hear things through the grapevine sometimes.
Its the same with planes but gaijin gots an even greater hold on the market. World of war planes is just… oof. It cant complete with war thunder so people wanting to play a war plane game really only have one choice
"If a game has pay-for-convenience the only thing pay-for-convenience does is: it makes a profit incentive for the developer to make the game inconvenient." Asmon hits the nail on the head as always
i have installed and uninstalled warthunder for years now... between hacker issues, costs of playing and the fact that it got to the point i couldnt play because i couldnt afford to purchase silver lions or premium.. and it both made me sad and angry.. so i no longer play anymore.
@@astrotecn How is paying a used car´s worth of money for the last decade preferable to paying 60 dollars a couple of times for a usable premium? Also, breaking news...the game we´re talking about, does have "this kind of shit in it" too.
The early introduction of the "unlock with challenges" was pretty good. Complete challenges over 14 days, 4 in a day for a "mark", 7 marks for the first vehicle, 11 marks for the second. It had the option of paying premium currency instead of a challenge if you weren't going to reach the mark for a day, though they were mostly manageable. I liked it, the P-43 was like a small Thunderbolt. And then they replaced it with assembly and loot drops and the system became complete garbage. The incentive to buy a lot of redundant parts instead of relying on drops was massive and you ended up on the marketplace most of the time.
As someone who's played war thunder for years, I think its insane how so few people have seen this game's hellish monetization scheme. They get away with this because they have a virtual monopoly on the game genre. You could really only assume incompetence or malice on the developers part, but the developers are very competent.
No they aren't? The devs are woefully incompetent and have displayed this time and time again with each update going forward. Broken this, not working that, half finished this forgot to do thats. War Thunder devs are among the most unskilled clowns in the gaming industry and continue to show this with the same CGI half baked updates, all the while fans continue to drop thousands and thousands of dollars because "Just tell me ur broke 💀" type people flooding into the gaming scene. Having played this game for years myself, since the beta, these devs are among some of the worst in the industry and continue to display and honor this day in and day out.
I'll tell you a story some WT veterans might remember. Many years ago, Gaijin introduced some patch that made the B-17 Fortress (United States bomber, used extensively in WW2) virtually unkillable in every game mode. No matter how much lead you put into one, you had about 10% chance of bringing it down. In War Thunder machine gunners fire automatically and the player can switch to gunner positions to fire manually. This enabled people to just take the plane out and farm kills in all game modes for easy money. The worst example of this was Simulator Battles. The game has 3 game modes - Arcade, Realistic and Simulator battles with Sim being the hardest - no UI, no external views, full controls (meaning you'd best have a flight stick to play at your best). This also means the mode gives exponentially more rewards per battle, as it's the mode that requires the most skill, perception and intuition. The issue in Sim Battles was that B-17s could have their gunners operated with 3rd person view (while all other pilots fly with cockpit view) and despite there being no UI, the automatic fire from the gunners could alert you if there was an enemy plane closing on you. While the B-17 was unkillable, the scum of the earth would grab it, put it on auto-pilot and just fly around the map, waiting for the enemy to try and shoot it down. As a result, the Sim Battle community formed the "Sky Police" - sim players would queue in Allied teams for the sole purpose of ramming B-17 players with their own aircraft, taking them out of the battle and making them pay huge sums of money for repairs. Intentional teamkilling via ramming is against TOS, but this was the only measure against the B-17 exploit. You want to know what Gaijin did? They left this exploit in the game for over 8 FUCKING MONTHS despite immense, constant backlash from the community. In stead of introducing a hotfix for the B-17, they spent months banning accounts associated with the Sky Police and leaving the root of the issue unaddressed. Gaijin, same as Wargaming, is a piece of shit company, which cares only about money, doesn't give a fuck about what the player base wants and gaslights its community when they receive criticism for idiotic business decisions. I hope people continue to review-bomb the Steam store page for this game, because it's been a long time coming and the company deserves every bit of it. Do NOT spend a second in this game or give a cent to the Snail - its painful lesson is way overdue.
Don't forget the B29 which were probably even worse. I just stopped playing air battles back when this was an issue. I also haven't touched the game for years and I don't regret it, Gaijin is one of the shittiest game companies you can find around
on the topic of bombers - remember the B-29. For those unaware, the repair cost (the cost in common currency, Silver Lions, to repair the vehicle if you get shot down during a match) went up to an insane number. Repair costs for bombers were already pretty bad at that point, with the average being around 5-7k SL (might be wrong about that, I don't exactly remember) at the same tier. Gaijin decided to multiply the repair cost of the B-29 alone by a factor of 10. iirc it was going to be higher, but the community got really pissed and it went *down* to around 52k SL.
@@lukeskywalket2894 i really hope that players will actually go against gaijin. by stop playing the game a month. thats what im doing anyways since diablo 4 is coming out soon. i just really hope we can change what they keep doing to us
What a fucking victory to. The war thunder situation could be summed up as being very similar to the place WOW was in during Shadowlands. Hopefully Gaijin can recover like wow did with DF.
As a war thunder player, we wouldn't be doing this if we hated the game, I absolutely love this game and I just am so extremely disappointed with what they are doing and what they have done, and since there's nothing else like it in the market, they hold the monopoly and the playerbase is finally done and speaking out against this.
Yeah, when you look for tank games or warships games you are stuck between gaijin or wargaming, i stopped playing WoWs and WoT bcuz both games are p2w nonsensical trash with tanks and ships they invented and lots os issues they never address, so sad cuz im a beta player from WoWs and I loved that game
@@Storiedfrog9 Same here. Played beta WOT back in like 2011, played wows when it came as well. Have 9k battles in tanks when I stopped, and idr how many in wows, around 3k. I have ships in wows that you can't get anymore as well.
@@MR250RGUY I am finishing up a coding course right now. Not telling you to follow me or anything. But my goals are to change these things, and a tank game is on my list definitely.
I agree its like the old marine corps saying; i wouldn't fuck with you if i didnt want to make you better (at least thats the best i can remember from my father) this game can never be replaced- we dont want to kill it, we want to perfect it into something that will one day make us want to give money to gaijin for making such a good game, not scam newbies into dropping 70$ on a jet that they dont even know has missiles
My biggest things I didn't like about the game is when you get to the higher tiers, you need to unlock like 5-6 vehicles to move to the next tier. But someone like me, that likes one style of vehicle, is forced to play and unlock the other ones. But I dont have the time to do so. So I'm stuck in a tier for years before I move to the next. OR pay money to progress past it now.
Getting the devs to even notice us is a win in itself, but keep up the pressure guys! Keep the bad review flowing! Keep telling people to stay away from the game! Keep the boycut going! Don't play! Don't give them a single cent! THEY WILL NOT CHANGE if a few simple words and empty promises get us to shut up. WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED THIS TIME!
Only if the community isn't addicted to the game.. like me. Like he said Rank 4 takes 3 months and I have 2,000 hours and on rank 6 for planes (rank 8 was added a while ago at this point) also on rank 4 for tanks. There are 9 nations to grind out, all taking extreme amounts of time to finish, and when you're done with all the planes and tanks MORE get added and most and at top tier which often take 10-30 hours to get EACH. It's fucking insanity, even after 7 months it hasn't got ANY better whatsoever, and even then people are still giving money to this MASSIVE game that is SOOOO p2w and pay for convenience, even so this game is addicting, I come back to it almost EVERY DAY. But the community does have something going on as "russian bias" (to where the USSR tech tree gets damn near modern vehicles to their disposal) and with that comes with MORE russian modern vehicles, including the T90M which WAS being used in combat at Russia-Ukraine war but too little were in active service to be required for the militarys needs. While the ONLY nation without Modern tanks that can compete is the USA's tech tree when all other tanks get "spall liners" (in other words small walls to deflect shrapnel from the crew inside) and the USA was SUPPOSED to have depleted uranium hull, of which is not given. Gaijin claiming it would be "unclear" if that was suitable for the game or not. Sorry for the long ASS reply but there is still way more I could add on this such as aircraft being given bullshit flight hitboxes and making guided AAM's (Air to Air Missiles) unbelievably overpowered as well as leaving all the broken glitches WITH the russian (USSR) techtree.
Tons of these reviews have Hundreds and THOUSANDs of hours of gametime. For them (me included) it is like seeing your Best friend from Highschool who you shared great memories with spiraling down a Drugaddiction for years and just using you to siphon money from.
He's too far in man... you gotta move on. It sucks, but you can't help him. Only he can help himself. Maybe then, his friends and family will want to spend time with him again if he improves. Lol.
Same here. But I play less and less. Mid-2018 I started. First 1000hrs with 3hrs/day playing (still in school) completed 2019. 2000 hours just 12 months later, and thats when I finished the German Tank and Air trees.(That Grind lol) Nowadays I just play it for the good old times because it just got worse and worse. I just got the 3000 hours this march. I maybe play 2-4 hours a week at this point. Seriously thinking I should maybe stop alltogether.
I'm playing the game since 2011! So who knows how many thousands of hours I have. I have almost everything in the game. For unlocking top tiers must throw some money in the game though even for a pro. And even so it takes almost one month to unlock a plane, which is frustrating. But personally I have much more fun playing the low tiers.
yep, i'm at 10.0 right now with a mostly premium line up and i either break even or i lose SL, which just means overall I lose SL..... not to mention how abysmall the RP rewards are....
To summarize Warthunder for people who haven’t played it- After the initial tiers of every nation, the higher you go in a tree the more difficult it is to break even, and the harder it is to earn enough money for buying new vehicles. In higher tiers, premium is a must to earn enough cash to keep paying the repair costs of destroyed vehicles, or you can buy a high tier premium vehicle which has lower repair costs, higher reward multipliers, and generally an advantage over most vehicles of it’s battle ranking. I’ve spent 1,200 hours on WarThunder and I play it because there is nothing else like it, and that’s part of why Gaijin is able to squeeze the player base so hard- It has no proper competition.
@@skyhook3495yup, the BMP2M is a squadron vehicle but it can simply be bought for Golden Eagles. It is by far the strongest IFV in the game that still does incredibly well even when used at top tier. And the SU25K is still probably the strongest CAS option since the damage model is still outright broken. That thing tanks any Anti-Air missile thrown at it without any real impact on flight performance. If it sells dont fix it I guess.
Imagine if Blizzard ever did this. Like, you have to buy something to get your char to be 10 levels below max. Then, you have the option of buying those 10 level boosts. And you can buy in-game currency with a token. And once you get to max, you can just buy more WoW tokens to buy gear off a Auction House. Or, you can buy boosts in max level content. All the gold coming from the gold token. Would be insane.
The upward trend of the game actually happened because Gaijin went against their promise back when the game first became public in 2013. They promised it would stay a WWII early cold war era game, with no late cold war and modern vehicles. In 2016, it became clear they weren't going to keep their promise as they then announced they would be adding Vietnam era vehicles. By 2017, we had fairly mid to late cold war tanks and planes, and Gaijin did an April fools event that added modern battle tanks and helicopters temporarily for players to mess around with in event battles. This is where were the tables have turned. You see, April fool events were known to be used for testing new and upcoming mechanics and vehicles in the game. This confirmed they would be adding MBTs and modern jets, and even potentially helicopters. From 2017, to now, they gradually added more and more modern vehicles, and you can see that in the trend line. This is simply because modern vehicles are the most popular amongst the general population. Gaijin started making insanely cool looking trailers and announcements about the modern vehicles they were adding, bringing more and more people into the game. While it was a great thing for their pockets, and brought tens of thousands of new players in, it also turned Gaijin more and more Greedy. Before the modern vehicles, Gaijin actually cared about the game and put a lot of effort into working directly with the players to fix and improve the game. Now they just up and refuse to listen to the players and force us old players out with a continuously more buggy and broken game. As long as the game looked and sounded polished, it was good for them. They constantly create new bugs and glitches whenever they update the game, and unfortunately, it almost only ever effects the older vehicles already in the game while the brand new shit is fine. This causes Gaijin to ignore the issues for way too long.
7:03 This reaction I feel just proves the point. "A tier 4 takes MONTHS to grind!?" Yes buddy! Yes it does, and it's out of *7* tiers :D If it wasn't already bad enough, reaching tier four, while more than half way through the tiers, means you've researched about 1/3 of the total RP for the tree since it gets progressively larger as you go to a disproportionate degree...
It took me 3 years to grind US Air into rank 6 and rank 7 didnt take long 2 reasons, 1 its small for now and 2 had all of rank 6 mostly spaded and expert lvl 70's crew, not to mention the other countries i have half or most the way up.
@@foo-foocuddlypoops5694 The funny thing is, the tier system is bullshit anyway. Because the real ratings are BRs, they're used for matchmaking and for balancing. The tiers are only there to gate super low BR vehicles from being eligible for certain events and daily tasks. And the BR ceiling keeps increasing. Back when the game started it was something like 8.0, now it's all the way to 12.0 and that's with half the modern vehicles all being put at the same BR. If you wanted proper balancing including modern vehicles, we'd need BRs that go all the way to 14 by now.
What a weird game man. 80$ for every tank in the game to just skip it all? And if i pay more money i can instantly repair it and the dude who gets blown up who doesn't pay the money has to grind for 8 months again all the way up to tier 7 just to buy the tank again? What a p2w game man. Literally paying money to unlock every single vehicle character in the game and repair it when i get blown up ez
@@hiya2793 You don't have to unlock vehicles more than once. If you get destroyed you just pay a relatively small fee of in-game currency to repair it. Would be wise to actually play the game before you try to have takes like this.
@@hiya2793 Nah basically people buy the high tier tanks or planes and use them to grind everything that leads up to that plane. Like you buy a $70 tier 7 and use it to grind tier 1 - 6 .
Multiplayer vehicular combat sims are a niche market that Wargaming and Gaijin have had a monopoly on for over a decade. For people who play them, there is nowhere else to go if they're unhappy with the developers, and that is why the playerbase rarely drops regardless of shady corporate practices. The only relevant competitor to ever come along was Armored Warfare, originally developed by Obsidian Entertainment, which garnered a huge interest in the sim community. However, Obsidian was axed from the project not long after release by the publisher because they basically refused to turn it into a P2W clone and Armored Warfare died on the spot. It's still around, but the only server is RU, and there are so few players the PVP aspect of the game is basically non-existent.
I really wish an domestic dev would attempt to tap into this market, or an EU or even KR/JP dev You are right, one of the issues is that we don't really have a comparable game.
2 months later and so far gaijin has learned their lesson. The game has been improving economically and gameplay wise. If they stick to the roadmap they released, it will just keep getting better
@@willthomas9635are they still sticking with it? I haven't played WT in over a year because not many of my friends play it, but I'm thinking about coming back.
The grind was insane from the get-go. I started playing the game probably when it was in beta/early-access and played for years in total for 1055 hours+. And I never got even one ground troops tech tree fully ground out fully. Granted they were adding vechicles etc, but there is or was like 4 natios with tech trees and there was no possibility for someone who has works and other life to gind it out. Although I at times spent money for the premium or premium vechicles that helps with grind somewhat, I think over the years I spent 200 bucks worth of real money for the game. I stopped playing 2021 entirely. Sad part is that the simulation games were quite fun, but the grind was too much.
The point about "You can't say giving players everything is bad, when you allow the player to do this by paying for it instead of earning it" is a point I am amazed I hadn't thought about before.
This was a thought for back in the day. It's no longer true when they allow you to buy top tier vehicles which they said they would never do but they do now. Simply dropping the br a few points doesn't make them not top tier. Example: Ka-50, it's way overpowered and has no place in the game.
@@chevyed2100 Indeed, their whole justification of slowing down progression to the point where it can take YEARS for a player to get even within the top echelon of a single nation completely falls apart when you can pay the price of a AAA game to get there from the start

I gave WT $120 and 2.7k hours. I got rewarded with having my progression in the UK tree actively sabotaged by a bunch of unfoldered tanks and pointless additions while being stuck in the most cancerous BR range: 7.0-8.0 You could try to fly to escape, up until you end up in a late WWII jet running up against F-4 Phantoms and other Cold War missile slingers.
The way Gaijin does public response tells us that the PR team is aligned with the same values as the owners. They address public backlash like they are entitled to the way public criticism "should" happen. It tells you a lot about how they perceive their customers.
Urm, dude, the out of touch Public Response is from the brother of the CEO himself (Creative Director). Here’s what I’ve noticed. Yes they made it too hard to play top tier and not lose SL but they fixed it. As for the long research grind, that’s the reason why people aren’t cheating so much. The losses would be catastrophic if banned.

After 10 years of this game, its really sad to see this happen to the game. Nothing like the good old days with top tier jets being Me-262's, f-86's, and Mig-15's. The game has fallen so far at this point I don't think it will change.
Ya know what I love most about this video is that it took you less than five minutes to see what the problem was. It has taken Gaijin four years and they still haven't figured it out.
I stopped playing this pos when in realistic battles you started seeing helicopters when everyone had ww2 tanks, and the excuses for that were borderline dumb.. They should have created modern arms category with own tiers for that nonsense. The game was dead long before that but this was the final nail in the coffin for me.
The issue with online service games is that you will have the same problem as with Tv-shows dealing with characters gaining power as a main plotline. You get the enternal powercreep. Which after a while just ruins the experience. And for games as service or online like that will eventually have to start tweaking to make more money. The rest of the game will just be beating a dead horse repetition. There is a limit yet the studios treat it like something infinite.

All games have some things in common and of course not everyone is able to play as many or be deeply into so many games may not be able to connect as well but even then still get something there
The problem with progression in WT is there is a BR wall. Up until about BR 3.4 everything is smooth, then it takes forever to progress. (Speaking from it's state last year) The time to grind, without spending money, to get into the later vehicles is measured in months, real time. That's if you play it like a second job. Otherwise it could take north of a year. Part of the reason I stopped playing was the ridiculous amount of grind to accomplish anything.
Same, I have old guard title and played on and off for years, and never got even close to unlocking a jet. The progression was 90% of the reason I stopped playing, because the gameplay itself is pretty unique and fun. I liked the higher speed aircrafts and it sucks being barred from using them aside from test flights until you've grinded for months.
Warthunder vet. Their claim that "if the progression is too fast, it will affect the new players." First of all, seal clubbing is easily done in this game, i could just hope on to 1.0 and use my full skills, my fully expert crew to just go buckwild on low level noobs. I know the maps, i know the tanks, i know when to hold back or when to press on, Seal clubbing is a re-occuring thing. 2nd, players will be given the illusions that grind will he easy, as every low BR vehicle will receive a free mod after battle that could've been won in the next battle easily. As you go higher, such boon will disappear and you will have to unlock each modification by grinding.
Best part of 7:02 is that it takes years for a totally F2P player to reach a full top tier line up (multiple tanks), and that's considering that the player is good a the game ie wins often and destroys a lot of vehicules.
my question with this is WHY do you need the top tier line up ? you can still play equalized balanced games in your tier and have fun, that's my logic at least, I was overwhelemd seeing how much their was to unlock but with how fast its going and how fun it is in below 2.5 rating tank games I dont see a reason to rush or feel bad for not playing at highest tier, im finding matches almost instantly and having a good time
I have played this game casually (2-4 hours per day) like few years ago, I choose the German Tank spent a whole year grinding from tier I to like tier IV/V leopard I. I assumed there already have new tier and models than there were. It could require a lot of more time to grind the whole tank tree. Played a bit of Russian Tank, some Airplane, never get into their battleships. So there are like 9 countries, assume without spending anything, you would need 18 years to grind everything. By that time the tech tree already expanded, you will have more to grind. If your child is born the year you start playing war thunder, he will be 18 years old.

@@gigacoco6990 It definitely wasn't in the beginning as there wasn't even a way to buy into top tier or even high tier. You had to earn your way into Jet gameplay. Now you can literally buy max rank vehicles. OR vehicles that overperform compared to their peers.
The devs: "You can give the player everything, or they'll just leave!" Meanwhile Dota 2 gives everything but cosmetics instantly, and it is the second most successful MOBA to exist. lol
it also incentivizes people to buy their cosmetics since its actually high-quality and the only times the battlepass exists is when they're doing the biggest Dota 2 Tournament where THE PLAYERS fund the prize pool
Reality often gets in the way of the lies these companies want everyone to believe so they can take their money. Notice how they tried saying all that bs with no actual numbers or stats to back them up? Because there are none.
This game used to be awesome. I used to play all the time. Then they implemented research instead of silver lions for getting new vehicles. That slowed things down, but it was still a great game. Eventually I stopped playing though. The game now is in the state that unless you are in the top 3 in the leader-boards you will not be able to afford to repair your vehicles. That is unless you pay for the subscription because you get double the rewards. The game is actually unplayable without paying for it right now.
11:20 Asmon doesn't understand. It's not that Players want the game the way players want it. That's not what he's saying. What he was saying was "Gaijin says Players already want the game the way Gaijin wants it." Basically Gaijin is doing what the players want, even though they literally demand the opposite, and then calling it "A Player supported decision"
getting top tier, without spending a dime even on strategic premium accounts (its a thing, you buy ONE day of premium at a relatively low cost and play for like 12-14 hours to make the most of it) it takes 1.5-2 years to get top tier within a nation... yeah
One of my biggest issue with this game was if i didn't have the premium service in matches where i'd win, if i didn't win by a large margin the repair costs would be much hire than what i earned which pretty much got me into a downward spiral of never being able to progress. That and it took a year to grind one factions tech tree.
So as a long time warthunder player who played the game when it was still in Alpha. What attracts me to the game is my love of history, the (initial) ease of use of the controls (you don't need a joystick to fly planes), and the fact that the game does feel good to play. However I would not say that the gameplay is FUN, it has fun moments, but the gameplay is so frustrating and restrictive at times that you gotta slog through what feels like hours of tedious horse shit to get to those fun moments. And sometimes you're so frustrated by the time you get to those fun moments that you don't even really enjoy them when you have them. Everytime you die is a reminder that the grind is now gonna be even longer, and it just pisses you off. And the mechanics very much encourage players to farm damage at every possible opportunity which makes the environment very toxic It kinda feels like being a drug addict because back in the early alpha days, the game was fucking fun as hell. So you play the game hoping to relive those moments that made you love it and they just get fewer and further between until you don't even feel it anymore.
dude im having so muuch fun, im playing tank mostly and just run behind enemy lines and surprise em with a few kills before i get taken out, it's also funny to ram the tanks and shoot them before they can rotate their canon lol, frustrating thing for me has been knocking myself over like a turtle when i turn too hard and getting stuck lol but its funny when they pull you with the cable
A game that comes to mind that has maybe a similiar problem is 'Conquerors Blade'. The developers often get away with it because these games do have pretty unique gameplay with no competitors, where it only leaves you the option to not have that experience at all or pay some. Some of these games could easily be snacked away with new competitors that dont have these pay for convenience practices..
You really hit an important issue by mentioning the uniquenes. The thing is that games have become so complex and expensive to make that if you find a niche with stable amount of people interested in it, you have no competition to drive you forward. On top of that, it is both hard and EXPENSIVE to make improvements to extremely complex product. This is not a problem unique to gaming industry but to software in general. I work in software development and boy, I have to tell you that it is like building a castle on shifting sands. Sometimes the compamy loses excrutiating amount of money because someone did ONE bad decision seven years ago. And it's not THAT bad at a company that I work in. We are really starting to prod the wall as a species. We need to give evolution some time to catch up I think 😀
Every popular game eventually goes to shit because of greed. I need to find and support any non-profit game companies out there. Once a company's top goal is maximizing profits, the quality of the game is secondary. At that point, it's time to stop playing that game.
I used to play Warthunder naval battles. A heavy cruiser used to cost about 6000-8000 currency to repair if you lost it in the battle, and due to the way naval battles work, you can expect to lose 1-2 ships per game. On average your currency reward if you did decently would be about 20 000-25 000 currency, so even if you lost 2 ships you'd still make a small profit. Those same heavy cruisers now cost between 18 000 and 30 000 to repair, and if you don't have a premium account you'll only be making the same 20 000 currency even if you do well. If you don't use premium and you don't have a lot of currency stored up regularly, a single battle can almost bankrupt you. Playing most high teir vehicles now, naval especially, but also ground and air, you will incur a net loss of currency for every battle unless you do quite well.
In a similar boat to you, and people like to joke about "save yourself", but it's the sad truth with games like WOT and WT. They suck you in early where you commit enough money and time that when they do change things, you can't help but feel like quitting is admitting defeat. I'll continue to play this game for the time being, but I stopped giving them my money a while ago because it was only a matter of time before Gayjin did something colossally stupid.
dont forget that some people did a (not really scientific but still pretty representive) test on how long a f2p has to play to get a toptier lineup. it was about a couple 100 hrs for players that knew the mechanics and some effiency tricks. i have 150hrs and just recently unlocked the t34 tank.
And the way only become more and more pain. Almost of sv tanks at this br has shitty stock bullets (except KV-2) and you are queqed with M10 Wolverine which always has p2w bush camo, Stug that can hulldown and rain bullets to you, Hetzel as small as a grain of sand, all Churchill that has the head make from titanium and required the final APHEBC shell to pen it.
@@smoothlyrough512 yeah i have almost than a thousand hours in wt I'm perfectly aware of the overall trend with monetization in the game but idk what they've recently done in order to get people outside of the community talking about it.
@@onnihalme8819 mate WT literally asks you to spend hours if not days for you to farm a tank or plane and the same tank or plane is practically shit as stock so you're forced to farm with that tank but your games vary so you most likely lose SL than gain it so you get into this vicious cycle of losing SL more and more that you're forced to use lower tier vehicles just for offsetting ALL the SL you lost
@@alfa563 oh boy believe me I would know. The whole concept of sl in wt and credits in wot is just to incentivise people to pay money to get sl more efficiently. It adds nothing positive for the players because the feeling of progression already comes from research.
Gaijin has also pulled ransomware like scams ON ITS OWN PLAYERS they released gifst links and after people claimed them they said that the rewards were only for newly created accounts so they blocked the accounts of players that claimed the gifst and made them "in debt" and until they paid their accounts werent unlocked.
Didn't see anyone in the comments mention this, but this does have a good ending (for now), the developers have pledged to change the economy to be better and some of the changes have already gone through, with more changes on the way. Off course as any game that recieves updates this often (up to 5 large updates a year) will inevitably run into bad decisions, but in this case the developers were actually willing to make positive changes.
Does Asmon also know that in war thunder tank and jet packs are like $60-$70, on top of the game having marketplace vehicles that have reached around $1,700 dollars to buy them?
Wow that's so p2w. So i gotta pay 1700$ to get to tier 7 to buy all the tanks, each of which costs 80$ and when i get blown up by some shitter every single time i also gotta pay 80$ unless i wanna grind all the way up to tier 7 again from 0 because i got blown up? That's almost as bad as star citizen where you're force to fork over 3000$ to buy any of the ships and there's no way to buy them ingame.
@@hiya2793 No.. the buy is permanent and most of the time its just iconic vehicle from some well known company / hero of war. They are not even better than normal vehicles. You get permanent multiplier on them to make more money and experience so you research normal vehicles faster.
As someone who's played a fair amount of War thunder i can provide context: As of current WT has a simple system of earn silver (game currency) from doing things in the game: get kills, capture objectives, help teammates, ect ect. After game is complete you lose silver based on shells lost or fire and tank repairs. For early game this is a non issue with gains high and cost low, but mid and high tier is different story. About mid tier cost skyrocketed too unsustainable. Ball park avg repair is ~5k Silver per tank. Your gains are: 1k per kill, 1k per capture, and 5k on win (Consider new tanks cost about 100+k easily). Since kills are most reliable gains this ultimately means to maintain a breakeven you need a 5KD at minimum(the realistic KD is 1.0). The reason for this is because then it forces you too buy premium account or premium vehicles for bonus silver, but makes most other tank unusable. The recent purposed change was for repair cost to go down BUT so will gains which means the grind for new vehicles would be even higher. That's among other things and developers looking down on it's own player base. Hence boycott
Thanks for covering this issue. War Thunder is a good game. I'd like to see the balance between progression and monetization to swing more in players' favor.
The gameplay is fun but the grind makes it hell once you’ve played for 10 years and have solid stuff in each country then you can have different options then you can actually have fun
I use to play this back in beta days, when they added tanks for some reason it didn't feel the same and I left. It was super fun though when it was only about aircraft's and I was actually really good at it, good days.
Such a bloody shame. I have so many good War Thunder memories. Making friends, working as a team with some friends, getting into custom battles and battling basically blind in the rain. I hope they somehow turn this around... but I doubt it.
We've heard this for years and the numbers have only shot up, maybe it's time to rid ourselves of the cancer or idiots who started all this back in 2014 whining for bombers to be nerfed.
War Thunder's nuts so I played for a long time and I have top tier USA and wanted to be able to play the team with less people on it in simulator I spent like 600$ to have top Japan and China and Israel. Worth it.
Free to play can work one of two ways. You either love the game so much that you are willing to pay for cosmetics just to look cooler while playing it, or you pay for convenience to bypass grind. The latter only works if the Grind in question is one that doable for the normal user without being overbearing, and it's purchasability only gets you to the start of the "end game". Anything beyond that and Those that grind will be upset, any less and it will not be worth buying.
@@Hob_ yeah i play arcade only. in tanks, i am tier 1 germany, tier 2 usa and ussr, with ussr in process of unlocking my 3rd tier 3 tank. aircrafts, i am tier 1 japan and tier 2 sweden. i dont play realistic as it takes 1 hour to reach somewhere on map only to get one shot my someone with leaves and bushes on their tank 1km away. I’ve always believed that there is a very clear ranking for tank games. In my opinion it goes like this: 1. WOT - World of Tanks 2. AW - Armored Warfare 3. WT - War Thunder 4. Tanki Online 1. World of Tanks This game is literally top tier. A lot of variety, bearable grinding from tier 1 to tier 10, a wide pool of maps and a lot of game depth to make your skills better and fast paced matches. 2. Armored Warfare This game I enjoyed it twice as much as I did on war thunder. Matches are fun, tanks have a very nice variety of weaponry and a PvE mode. However i still believe that the way it was managed in the end and boosting PvE over PvP is what killed the game in the end. 3. War thunder Its fun until you magically get 1 shotted just like the clips we see in the video. Just makes you wonder why are you still playing the game; however getting those 1 shots yourself makes you want to keep playing until bored of it (happened to me) 4. Tanki Online I’d honestly put this game on #2 if this was a few years back but it is what it is. An OG tank game that has undergone a lot of changes and used to be very competitive and fun to play. These are my honest opinions on those 4. And if tired of all the options just go play World of Warships instead and grind any battleship tech tree, those are 1 shot machines and will give the same nostalgia as in AW and WT
World of Tanks is Pay to Win heaven, Armored Warfare is dead so its irrelevant and Warthunder is the juggernaut it is because the gameplay is solid and has more updates and content then the majority of existing games. I get it, Warthunder has a lot of issues, but it is better functioning and managed than everything you listed
@@InterstellarTaco Absolutely agreed. WoT put me off f2p tank games for over a decade. Decided to try out WT, and it's fun as hell with you seeing yourself improving instead of relying on RNG (in what world does a tank have a 20m +/- dispersion?????).
@buckbucker8020 yeah I prefer skill based gameplay over RNG. With warthunder you have to know every tank, plane and ship you fight against along with what vehicle your in in order to get kills. WOT with its shot dispersion and spotting mechanics mean less skill based gameplay and more RNG and chance. Combine that with the pay to win ammunition and its a no go for me.
A couple of weeks back I saw someone on my friends list playing War Thunder so I tried it out myself. It took me one evening to realize how long the grind was to get to the vehicles I wanted and immediately uninstalled.
That is what happening in World of Warships right now too. They create a problem(like owerpowered ships), then later sell the solution(more overpowered ships) for real money. There are no low tier battles anymore, because you can buy high tier ships for real money like instant almost right after you registered you account.
This disconnect between supplier and consumer is rampant everywhere in society. When they literally live in a different world than the rest of the masses, they don't even know how fucking ridiculous they are. Surrounded by yes men filling their ego's with a sense of worth and purpose...
it's not even the progression grind that has the most uproar, some nations have obscenely high repair costs for their vehicles. many top tier non-premium jets you have to go 2:1 KD just to break even, if you go 1:1 you break even, but if you get unlucky and get smoked early in the match (or teamkilled upon takeoff) you lose SL. lineups before/after the update saw identical play stats get hacked down by 35-50%. Oddbawz did a vid where he got back to back nuke wins, which used to give 180k-200k SL. the rounds gave around 80k SL the game also isn't just having it's own launcher, it is also on xbox and playstation with crossplay. there a MUCH MORE players at a given time than what steam is showing

i havent played in like 5months, but i was able to get a positive silver lion (ingame currency) by playing only like 3-5 matches a day with a good premium tank and 50-100% boosters. that was the only way. in those matches (if i got about 3 kills before dying and going back to the hangar) i had to have a booster in order to go positive. if i spawned and got 1 kill and didnt capture any objective, i lost money. for those wondering i played the t54e1 with no backups of any kind. one death=new match. I havent played recently and i assume that you cant even break even anymore

Congrats spookston your videos are making the big leagues now
I was as surprised as you spooks LoL I just watched your video and then asmongold's take autoplayed. I'm a WT CC also and am consuming lots of the CC takes on this. I make all my SL with premium destroyers so I can afford to play other modes
Ya made it
Always a pleasure spookston
Glad to say I watched it before Asmongold did.
Yep, and even World of Tanks has it's own problems for f2p players

Oh, they don't have the "earn a tank by not sleeping 23 hours a day"?
Common russian dev L

Bro it's a video game, and it hasn't been that great in YEARS
I'm playing the game since 2011! So who knows how many thousands of hours I have. I have almost everything in the game.
For unlocking top tiers must throw some money in the game though even for a pro. And even so it takes almost one month to unlock a plane, which is frustrating.

To summarize Warthunder for people who haven’t played it-
After the initial tiers of every nation, the higher you go in a tree the more difficult it is to break even, and the harder it is to earn enough money for buying new vehicles.
No one cares this game sucks
To be fair, premiums dont always have advantages in battles. You have premiums facing vehicles that outrank it in multiple ways.
@@ThePointlessBox_ thats not entirely true. There are exceptions.
@@skyhook3495 of course there are exceptions, but the premiums arent always good. A ton of them are absolute dogshit even on the day they are dropped.
That is not the cause of the upwards trend. The cause is $$$$$$$$$$.

And the mechanics very much encourage players to farm damage at every possible opportunity which makes the environment very toxic
It kinda feels like being a drug addict because back in the early alpha days, the game was fucking fun as hell. So you play the game hoping to relive those moments that made you love it and they just get fewer and further between until you don't even feel it anymore.

I'm a player with 3000+ hours in WT, and no longer recommend it to new people because of this.
Thanks for covering this
In a similar boat to you, and people like to joke about "save yourself", but it's the sad truth with games like WOT and WT. They suck you in early where you commit enough money and time that when they do change things, you can't help but feel like quitting is admitting defeat. I'll continue to play this game for the time being, but I stopped giving them my money a while ago because it was only a matter of time before Gayjin did something colossally stupid.
Same boat here... my review has always been negative and always talked people out of playing it.
Nice to see even outsiders can see the blatant disrespect and greed Gaijin has shown.
Outsiders?
@@maximedaunis8292 someone who don't know much about the game.
This feels like Blizzcon all over again "You think you want it... but you don't" hahaha
Thank you so much for always linking the videos in the description, not all streamers who do RUclips clips are that respectful
dont forget that some people did a (not really scientific but still pretty representive) test on how long a f2p has to play to get a toptier lineup.
it was about a couple 100 hrs for players that knew the mechanics and some effiency tricks. i have 150hrs and just recently unlocked the t34 tank.
I have completely missed out on this wt situation but if someone outside of the community is talking about it must be bad. Pls don't ruin my game
Not really, a free to play game is gonna force you to spend real money, no surprise here
@@smoothlyrough512 Yea, but it’s a matter of respecting the player base, even those that spend money.
Spookston is notorious for calling out Gaijin, he ain't afraid
Gaijin has also pulled ransomware like scams ON ITS OWN PLAYERS they released gifst links and after people claimed them they said that the rewards were only for newly created accounts so they blocked the accounts of players that claimed the gifst and made them "in debt" and until they paid their accounts werent unlocked.
I love you Asmongold because even though you've never played this game you still understand the situation completely.
@@hiya2793 Literally all of what you just said is completely incorrect
@@roguebogey lmao simping for multi billion $ companies run by rich billionaires who want to steal your data, spy your house and take all your money
@@hiya2793 No.. the buy is permanent and most of the time its just iconic vehicle from some well known company / hero of war. They are not even better than normal vehicles. You get permanent multiplier on them to make more money and experience so you research normal vehicles faster.
@@hiya2793 oh god I'm so glad it's not like that, it's bad but not that overwhelmingly terrible, you completely misunderstood this
As someone who's played a fair amount of War thunder i can provide context:
As of current WT has a simple system of earn silver (game currency) from doing things in the game: get kills, capture objectives, help teammates, ect ect.
Having 1200hrs in warthunder and being an asmon enjoyer. Seeing this video pop up made my day.
Tier 4 the highest, Oh Asmon You sweet summer child.
He doesn’t know… he doesn’t know
The amusing thing is before this, the biggest controversy was War Thunder community members leaking Government documents.
IL-2 For Life, though hard to say whether I like Stalingrad, or 1946 more.
Well, miracles do happen every now and then, and one happened this time.

Asmongold is the type of guy to play War Thunder and roll a tank...
???
This shit was funny
Asmongold is the type of guy, who won't play War Thunder at all because of how shit the repair mechanic and many other things in the game are.
Anything beyond that and Those that grind will be upset, any less and it will not be worth buying.
man the war thunder grind is unreal. i have a little under 300 hours and i have barely researched 2 vehicles in tier 3.
you are either playing arcade only or doing something wrong man
@@Hob_ yeah i play arcade only. in tanks, i am tier 1 germany, tier 2 usa and ussr, with ussr in process of unlocking my 3rd tier 3 tank. aircrafts, i am tier 1 japan and tier 2 sweden. i dont play realistic as it takes 1 hour to reach somewhere on map only to get one shot my someone with leaves and bushes on their tank 1km away.
Is there any real reason i shouldnt play arcade?
@@swagmessiah666you gain a lot more rp and sl in realistic however the repair costs are worst so it depends on if you want to have some kind of fun in arcade or grind better in realistic
@@swagmessiah666 realistic battles although are harder, but give a lot more xp. you just have to learn how to play it. also focus on only one nation, ofc you wont get to anywhere if you're literally trying to research every single nation.
@@Hob_ should i not research multiple nations?? i thought doing that saves time. while my uusr tanks are red, i play with my usa tanks. when neither usa, ussr nor germany have a set of 3 working tanks, i play arcade aircraft.
its nice how well he understands the situation even though he doesn't play war thunder
Having Asmon react to this is going to be so good for the game, the Snail will listen this time!
I’ve always believed that there is a very clear ranking for tank games. In my opinion it goes like this:
1. WOT - World of Tanks
2. AW - Armored Warfare
3. WT - War Thunder
4. Tanki Online
1. World of Tanks
This game is literally top tier. A lot of variety, bearable grinding from tier 1 to tier 10, a wide pool of maps and a lot of game depth to make your skills better and fast paced matches.
2. Armored Warfare
This game I enjoyed it twice as much as I did on war thunder. Matches are fun, tanks have a very nice variety of weaponry and a PvE mode. However i still believe that the way it was managed in the end and boosting PvE over PvP is what killed the game in the end.
3. War thunder
Its fun until you magically get 1 shotted just like the clips we see in the video. Just makes you wonder why are you still playing the game; however getting those 1 shots yourself makes you want to keep playing until bored of it (happened to me)
4. Tanki Online
I’d honestly put this game on #2 if this was a few years back but it is what it is.
@@InterstellarTaco to each their own, as I said its just a personal opinion🫡👍🏼
@@RBPhantom20 Good, but since your personal opinion is about a game that's pay to win your opinion is discarded and ignored.
1800 hours on that game, i have no tier 7 vehicle from tech tree, i grinded event tier 7 vehicles
I remember when my great grand pappi died in the war because the enemy paid to win. Glad to see the realism is being maintained in this game.
Basically what happened in ww2. There was a hotfix in the vietnam war though
You say this, but the fact that mirrors reality in the case of the U.S is unreasonably funny to me.
They just outproduced everyone.
Through money.
A couple of weeks back I saw someone on my friends list playing War Thunder so I tried it out myself. It took me one evening to realize how long the grind was to get to the vehicles I wanted and immediately uninstalled.
Thank them they made their greed so obvious, you saved time 🤣
That is what happening in World of Warships right now too. They create a problem(like owerpowered ships), then later sell the solution(more overpowered ships) for real money. There are no low tier battles anymore, because you can buy high tier ships for real money like instant almost right after you registered you account.
That, and trying to shoe-horn subs in to the game... oh and the CV rework.
Yeah not played wows for 12 months if not longer.
Oddbawz did a vid where he got back to back nuke wins, which used to give 180k-200k SL. the rounds gave around 80k SL
the game also isn't just having it's own launcher, it is also on xbox and playstation with crossplay. there a MUCH MORE players at a given time than what steam is showing
as an Asmon enjoyer and War Thunder main, I have reached transcendence.
Now we wait for him to actually play the game. As if that would ever happen.
@@roguebogey I was ignoring it for years and then like 2 years ago I got bored by League, installed whatever ww2 game I saw first and fast forward to today, Im a daily WT player :D
@Nycco Yax Ya I played it a bunch back in 2015-2019 but got tired of it, only came back recently because of all the drama funnily enough.
I used to play warthunder when it was planes only and it was amazing, i havent played for probavly 8-10 years. With how greedy Gaijin has become over the years iv never though about getting back into it. Gaijin used to be greedy back in the day, and its just become worse and worse. Its sad, i realy wish they didnt make all of these bad moves, if they did i would 100% get back into it cus the flying in the game is THE BEST flying in any game i've played (the best feeling is what i mean btw)
WT has so much potential but the only development time they put into it is for paid content. They almost never do good gameplay updates.
Bro, it can take years if you want to grind everything perfect in one nation
2,500 hours in America all free to play
No premiums
No premium time
For tanks I just cracked 9.0 and air I'm on the verge of 10.0
i havent played in like 5months, but i was able to get a positive silver lion (ingame currency) by playing only like 3-5 matches a day with a good premium tank and 50-100% boosters. that was the only way. in those matches (if i got about 3 kills before dying and going back to the hangar) i had to have a booster in order to go positive. if i spawned and got 1 kill and didnt capture any objective, i lost money. for those wondering i played the t54e1 with no backups of any kind. one death=new match. I havent played recently and i assume that you cant even break even anymore
