  • Rabin, Heifetz, Szeryng, and Kogan were the greatest violinists I ever heard, somehow they stood out a little more than everyone else for some reason. I found out a long time ago how hard Kogan's recordings are to find, and I have been collecting them ever since.
I think the best thing Kogan ever did was the Tchaikovsky concerto from a double cd called "Artist Profile", it is out of print but well worth finding and if you ever get a chance to hear Kogan play the Tchaikovsky get it at all costs. Only Rabin equaled what Kogan did with the Tchaikovsky in my opinion.
I have uploaded rare out of print and unreleased recordings that are difficult to find, I hope you like them.
Since they are so difficult to find no one should mind me uploading them, if you have issues with me uploading them please send me a message and I will remove them.

I love how Mr. Kogan never rush the music he is playing and how he values every note he plays with his excellent skills and abilities!

Tonight I did discover the excellent violinist’s Mr. Kogan and his excellent breathing recordings. They where breathing and I love the way he does not rush the music that he is playing it flows.

Kogan was the best by far. There are certain subtle notes that only he can produce with perfect balance.

Kogan first came to the US in 1958. Played the Brahms at Symphony Hall, and then recorded the Khachaturian concerto AND THE SAINT SAENS HAVANAISE, with Pierre Monteux and the Boston Symphony.........both recordings remain unsurpassed, the Khachaturian only equaled by Oistrakh with Kachaturian conducting the Philharmonia orchestra, London.

I had forgotten what a magnificent violinist Kogan was. This was a beautiful reminder.

An astonishing interpretation :from the very first note Kogan speaks to us through his violin and we are only aware of this amazing voyage, immense in light and colour, a complete and "spontaneous" recreation of Saint-Saëns' French romantic vision of Cuba, so 19th century and yet so timeless through his touch. A couper le souffle et parfaitement en accord avec chaque nuance de la partition, effectivement : quelle merveille !

i was listening to the heiftez-- well, i'm sure only one of the heifetz recordings-- and it's funny.....to improve on perfection is actually possible here.
i get the feeling with kogan that his real remarkable feature stems from his ability to be a devout student of the violin; less a master than a willing disciple, his treatment of the violin, while superficially austere, cold, inhuman, betrays how sensitive a soul he was. thanks for uploading these rare recordings!

He has my heart at first note...
better than Perlman and Heifetz on this piece; not to be disrespectable for these two maestros, but Kogan is inarguably the best. not too pretty like Perlman not too delicate like Heifetz.
I was having trouble finding a recording of this piece that speaks to me, until I found this; now I can sleep at night.
    Thank you for posting!
    Adore Kogan,

Kogan stylistically really has an affinity for this piece and his tone is absolutely pure and penetrating; probably one of his finest performances! Thanks for posting this!

this is as expected just perfect....this arpeggios as for instance 1:21, just flawless, as they are nothing. 2:22 is just amazing, it doesnt sound difficult, but it is very hard that passages. for me the best technician. this passage 7:09 is just heavenly, you dont hear such a difficult phrase in such a easy manner...you never do that- only by kogan...thank you for this great recording.

OK, Beautiful...his sensitivity and expression reminds me of Oistrakh! I say he's a close second to Heifetz, who is always first with me... but really beautiful.

I would prefer that the 16th notes had been very even. Some of them are faster than the others and some of them get clipped making the whole phrase very uneven. It's better to go just a slightly slower tempo And have everything perfectly even because then that gives the sense of facility and movement with grace. If you're jumping ahead and falling behind and jumping ahead, it's jerky: kind of like riding in a car with somebody who has a stick shift and they don't know how to use it.
I don't hear the French elan coming out in this performance. There needs to be a sense of elegance, not just polish.
