I was lucky to hear him perform the Interlude on UK TV in the fifties, when he came over. Perfect intonation in thirds. Quite wonderful.

First of all, great respect that you enjoy this playing and you are among the few listeners which I greatly respect (and hope to learn to play for). Now, regarding the comment: it is frankly complete bullshit. There are very different styles in the great violinists - David Oistrakh is extremely different to Nathan Milstein, who is completely different from Jascha Heifetz, both of which are completely different from V. Pikaizen or B. Goldstein (the lesser known favorites) - there are many people who love all these particular styles of playing, however as someone who has listened for hours a day to these recordings from the age of 4 I can tell you that every one of the above-mentioned violinists is capable of reaching 'that dimension', for different people, different pieces and in different ways, but all the people I mentioned above manage to get there. On the other hand, I can definitely say that all the above mentioned are 'thousands of miles above and dozens of light years beyond' the huge majority of modern violinists (and certainly examples such as Hilary Hahn).

I love this ballet, have a DVD of it as well as complete ballet on 2 CDs. The violin version is so beautiful. The ballet is based on old fairytale (13th century I think). About Pincess Raymonda being almost kidnapped by Abderahman and saved by her beloved Prince Jean De Brienne.. the ballet is spectacular. He re is the last part he plays, adagio from the ballet danced at the concert by Nikolai Tsiskaridze and Marianna Ryzhkina
