Hello Tom and Dominik. Tom, I’m here for your cinematic reels and tutorials. Thank you so much for the excellent contribution you make. I agree with what you say about this being best for beginners (perhaps careful beginners🤪). I think there is another category of user for which this is a somewhat ideal quad - the camera drone flier (especially professionals) for whom this will allow (without much training, dedication, and attention to hobby maintenance) expansion into: * proximity and gap shots at higher speeds than can be had flying with a camera drone’s phone video feed * angular horizon perspective and modest diving * a stabilized mode for safe, cinematic flying inside of and around structures like construction sites, gardens, and real estate As such a user, I don’t foresee myself aspiring to freestyle mastery, and (perhaps with a GoPro mounted) this will become the FPV tool I need for the long term.
Pros do not like it. Poor image quality, poor stabilization, poor flying characteristics. Only people who like it are the ones who don't know what they're missing out on and think that DJI is offering something in this product that it's just not.
Got a couple friends that got into fpv with this drone. The biggest hurdle for them as far as going manual and learning riskier and more advanced maneuvers is the looming fear of crashing a $900 quad that can’t be serviced with their own hands. One bad crash and they’re grounded for 2-4 weeks. One of them came from a Mavic pro2 thinking the fpv footage would be top notch, but is realizing a GoPro would be more versatile. I think they missed the mark a bit since it’s an expensive tool to put in a newbies hands and isn’t exactly up to par with what experienced pilots want in terms of performance and video production quality.

Excellent video. I’m new to fpv and probably the most qualifying question “do you want to do acrobatics” if so even if you go dji you are going to crash and have to send that drone to be fixed. Buy a kit build and it’s modular. You can fix it.
If you want to learn FPV freestyle.. for sure go with a normal FPV quad and learn how to fix it :) but if you want to do easy "cinematic" or long range flying.. and you are not a technical type of a person.. DJI FPV is the best choice

Thx for nice episode Guys, when you consider long range above the water or behind the obstacles, that feels so great having RTH, also durability service independence, time & cost is a huge factors. When you crash Nazgul - costs are not significant and service is on your side, when you crash DJI FPV - 2-3 weeks and 150 USD at least.
Hi Rafal, how are you bro, all is good? Yeah the cost of DJI FPV sucks.. Anyway recently my Chimera7 had a fail-safe 2km out.. and the quad returned home, landed and disarmed. I was amazed! Will make a video :D So I am thinking on putting gps on my nazgul as well
I spent soooo much time researching this myself and ended up getting the Nazgul just a week ago, I'm so happy I did! The downsides of single camera and manual vs auto exposure was new to me, and is a very good point. Another big one is repairability, especially since DJI wants you to send the drone to them for repair instead of doing it yourself, and you'll probably be left waiting for weeks!
@@tomstrojnik Have you heard about the new nazgul evoque f5? Do you still recommend to buy the „old“ nazgul? Or should I go for the new evoque Squashed X Design.
Well done Tom and Dominic, a great review for newbies beginner pilots. On Saturday I attended a race wher the 2108 FAI word champion Redroo (Rudi Browning) flew a race quad and then the DJI FPV quad on the track. He was able to get the DJI FPV drone to within 1 second of his race drones time for the same course. Mind blowing performance. My neighbour has one and I would love one, but if I crash I cannot rebuild it and the repair price is scarey, so it remains a dream for me.
Now this is a good and honest review. Pretty hard to find. I have the drone and it's my first ever drone and I completely agree with everything you said here.
The point is - most of people cannot see FPV like trick video without headache and sickness. Nothing interesting with all these flips and spins around trees and gates. If you saw it once - you have seen all of them. This is the same as aerobatics - only pilots interested in watching them. But if you like nature, some amazing places like mountains, waterfalls, volcano etc. DJI FPV gives you this level of freedom and safety which regular sports drones cannot give to you.
DJI FPV V. 2.0 (with a better camera) will be a game changer. I build my quads to whatever camera I’m putting on it. So a 6” for a gopro 10, 5” gopro 8. 3” for an insta go. Etc. I do like having that flexibility.
I have both and many more real FPV drones but I still enjoy the DJI FPV for lite acro a half mile to a mile out. I'm not sure if I trust many of my drones a mile out without worry. We all know FS can be unpredictable and can happen at odd times for no reason sending us to the walk of shame listening for the beeper trying to find our babies.
Agree with you! I just had a great experience with GPS rescue this week though... My fpv quad Chimera7 lost signal 2km away.. but the drone returned home , landed and disarmed it's motors just 5meters away from the take-off spot.. my mind was blown away. Will make a video about it :D
I guess the main point here is that over the years the main focus for DJI wasn't solving for prop wash but rather having an onboard camera gimbal. While this does smooth out the video it will definitely not improve flying performance and accuracy. Betaflight, on the other hand, had been improving filtering techniques (dynamic notch, RPM filters, ...), PID loop (Feedforward, throttle boost, Anti gravity, I term relax). Add to that the fact that DJI usually uses underpowered motors with Li-ion batteries (low energy output but longer flight times) while racing quadcopters usually have high powered motors with Lipo batteries (high energy output) and it is safe to say that DJI will probably never catch up regarding flight performance and accuracy.
Was hoping you would do a car chase...starting from behind moving sideways and transition into flying backwards dead in front of the car (using the "tilt-down" function to compensate for the upwards direction when flying backwards.
It would be interesting to also compare the safety aspects of both drones. I'm flying the DJI FPV and I love that features such as the emergency break or return-to-home. How does a regular FPV drone compare to that?
I never needed a return to Home 😅 If You like, put on GPS. I made myself a switch for a "beginner" Mode, stabilized. So when i Dont have Picture in my goggle or anything happens, i switch it and give pitch to gain high, was useful a couple of Times

Given them a 5 minute class and given them the drone and they flown around at speeds of 60 miles an hour with no problems. For me it's safer than trying to let them use my controller with the Springs and centering off
I like that I can crash my regular freestyle kwad and fix it myself, often on the spot. I think beginners should go for one of the mini drone kits like Beta or Emax. Not a $1200 dji. My opinion from experience
I agree.. for a beginner who is a technical type of a person and knows how to fix things.. Go with a mini drone.. BUT if they just want things to be simple and budget is not a limit - DJI FPV wins
1200 is a price of Combo. Googles costs 450, controller 200, battery 150, charger 50. So drone itself costs ~$300. But if you decide to build your own - only O3 camera module would cost you $250. And used mint condition DJI FPV Combo you can easely find for $700 now which makes price of drone unbeatable

@@tomstrojnik that battery best for protec35 and GoPro in terms of weight. I have 1550 mh and go pro9 whis protek35 and I think it's hard for him, what do you think about this?
something to point out, a 6s 1300mah battery costs around $29 usd, $40 at the most for a top of the line lipo, the DJI battery on the other hand costs $159 usd.. So basically you could buy 5 lipos and fly 25 to 30 minutes on the regular FPV quad and 10 to 12 minutes on the DJI FPV quad for the same amount of money, basically you're paying double for less than half the flight time, now if you take a long range FPV quad you can fly even more minutes for less money than that
I agree with youl.. Or you can even get a Chimera7 with 4500mah battery and fly for 12-15min :) but what you are really paying for with DJI is the ease of use... there is much to learn about fpv and lipo batteries for a complete beginner right
@@tomstrojnik exactly, a chimera would fly a lot more, and about learning, isn’t that the beauty about fpv? Nice video! I'm flying the Nazgul and I love it :-) :-). So no nead for the DJI FPV drone. I like the other drones from DJI for slow cinematic shots. But for FPV... Nazgul!

Great honest and informative video guys with lots of awesome shots, well done! Perhaps the best vid out there explaining the difference between the two styles of kwad.
I’ve had to send it back twice so far, so not too beginner friendly for mistakes and repair. And not friendly to my wallet. I bought it because I wasn’t sure how I would like fpv and I didn’t want to spend a lot of time learning the modifications and batteries. Now I know I love fpv but I’m not sure how much longer I’ll stick with this DJI
@@tomstrojnik first time dirt got in the gimbal and one arm was bent... took about 10 days to get it back. Second time two arms were broken and it took two weeks. Took longer at the second time because I requested further diagnostic. However, I was not very happy with their diagnostic. I wrecked the second time because the screen lagged out at the bottom of a dive. It seems like their diagnostic only checked to make sure the craft connected to the goggles and they didn’t review the flight data that I had uploaded (or at least didn’t mention it in the analysis).
@@tomstrojnik Thanks for the answer! Is that because of regulations or simply because you can't see? I don't actually know if those have any headlights, nor if they'd do any good ^^ A drone with a night vision module should be pretty cool!
What sucks about the DJI FPV is that you can't go higher than 500m, so no cloud or mountain surfing... and of course that it breaks that easiely. But nice video, I am starting with doing cinematic and your videos are helping me a lot. greetings from Germany
Yeah tell me about it, I was doing some long range cruising and suddenly the drone stopped.. had no idea what's happening and then I realized my height was 500m :( Thanks for watching my videos!
You didnt talk about the panic button! This is someting, no other drone has it! In any emergency case, you press it and the drone will immediately stop flying and holding it position in air!
Thanks for mentioning it, for sure a great feture! I do have a panic button setup for some Iflight FPV drones on my TBS Tango 2 as well :) The drones won't hover, but they will start flying back to the take-off position
You did not mention that the DJI Drone is very easy to damage in simple crashes whereas a normal 4 or 5 inch drone would not even suffer a broken propeller. But worse is the near impossible ability to have it repaired within a months time vs not even a day with most simple drone crashes. Then also don’t forget the cost to repair an already expensive fragile drone.
I crashed it at a pretty high speed.. and there was no big damage, only a broken LED plastic cover and a twisted prop that was easily fixed. Build quality is actually really good, but yeah I get your point of view.. fixing this is definetly expensive!
@@tomstrojnik Hello and yes, I understand your experience to date. But a casual viewing of DJI blog sites as well as a few RUclips videos show there are quite a few who have experienced light crashes and the are now waiting for repairs. and some have admitted the cost for arm replacement and such was extremely costly. Being a resident of central Florida I have already seen more than my share of non in home repairable damage the DJI where it’s off to being repaired at at least a month or two wait. That’s where starting with a small woop for the cost of truly learning is the most fiscally responsible into entry of FPV. Now if money is no object the sure this is something to experience and it is unique.
I think DJI is not a good company in general, these products are not what FPV is about. FPV is about collaboration and modification, when DJI comes into the hobby with a proprietary digital system + more it's clear they do not care about the future of fpv. And this drone is so expensive that I don't think it can be classed as a beginner quad either.
Hey Tony, I understand your point of view, but as a filmmaker I disagree... DJI has done a big favour to us filmmakers with promoting FPV to the filmmaking industry and building awareness about what kind of shots are possible to get :)
Yea, it is not for me. I would be too stressed flying such an expensive machine. I roll with 3in sub 250g quads. Cheap and easy to repair so I'm not too stressed about crashing. Also, loving to build quads helps. But I hope it will popularize FPV more so we can get better gear as a result.
@@tomstrojnik Don't get me wrong. I can see advantages of having a machine you just pull from the bag, and it is ready to go. Not having to store batteries. You can switch from manual to some other mode and focus on cinematography instead of having to concentrate on flying smooth or just casually cruise around. Not having to tinker with buggy gopros which is a nightmare if you have naked one and it just won't connect to your phone when it feels like it. Or when it freezes your footage 20secs into a flight. Only real downsides are the price, durability and the weight which is somewhat limiting you in where and how you can fly.
For a fpv beginner? No, unless you are already familiar with dji ecosystem. For a fpv beginner, without any knowledge, I would go for much cheaper stuff: drone, radio, goggles. my opinion
For someone who is a technical type of a person that enjoys soldering.. yup a normal FPV quad is a much better choice.. But for someone who just wants things to be as simple as possible.. DJI FPV ftw in my opinion
The DJI FPV is crap and absolutly not for beginners, Freestyle or racing. Learning to build your own quads and watch them fly for the first time is one to the most rewarding feelings, hearing the ECS beeps and celebrating the thing didn’t Burst into flames haha yeah the learning curve is really steep but totally worth it in my opinion
Great video!
Thanks!
Nice video!
I'm flying the Nazgul and I love it :-) :-). So no nead for the DJI FPV drone. I like the other drones from DJI for slow cinematic shots. But for FPV... Nazgul!
Yup, same here.. love my Nazgul! I use DJI Mavic Pro 2 for slower cinematic stuff
I think that it is better to buy dji fpv first just because when u want to switch to normal fpv you can just buy the drone and sell dji fpv drone
why you have always good weather ?) how ))
Not always, this week is mostly raining :)
@@tomstrojnik do you buy gps module for nazgul separate? Or it is included with drone ?
Is there a way FPV drone can do something similar to the Activetrack of Dji?
Not yet :)
It would be nice if that goggle of DJI FPV can be paired with iFlight Protek25/35
It can, if Protek has dji fpv digital sytem
great video
Thanks
subbed and liked! Thanks for the comparison video!
Appreciate your sub!
He tom do you now tx16s bind with frysky rsx
never used it, sorry
I'm beginner. I bought a control to fly in simulator. Nevertheless I see it is very difficult to go ahead or back with the same altitude... Does my control needs extra configuration or in FPV drones thats another sensor that keeps same altitude when flying forward or backward?
You need more practice, watch these tutorials: ruclips.net/p/PLfWQBJehRTHpT9UsbppgsRsxClFCkxvEa
DJI FPV drone is simply a knack of all traits but master of none. Every tool has its purpose.
I think their aim is to have it as an entry drone for fpv beginners.. will see where this goes long term. But for sure a normal FPV quad wins :))
Guys this was a very good video. I got so much information. I will like to get into cinematic FPV flying. I have never flown an fpv before but don't think I want waste money on the dji fpv. What can fpv would you recommend? 4K 60 steady flying
Thanks! Watch this video first: ruclips.net/video/eana0t8J138/видео.html and after watch these two: 1)ruclips.net/video/24CwjeIk8Ac/видео.html 2) ruclips.net/video/xQzkQNI4eLU/видео.html
@@tomstrojnik thank you
After getting the DJI FPV, what extra equipment would you need to transition to a freestyle drone?
You only get to keep your Goggles... it kinda sucks!
@@tomstrojnik That’s good to know. I wish the new controller worked with the DJI system.
I was able to learn quickly with this drone so hopefully I can make the transition to a freestyle and cinewhoop soon. Sounds like I just need to save up to buy all the new stuff. 😂
@@BrianWoodwardFPV Yup, the new controller is really good.. I love how smooth the gimbals are! Yup.. enjoy in your FPV journey :)
Great Cinematic Footage,You have my Like ;)
Thanks for watching Lucas!
Great honest and informative video guys with lots of awesome shots, well done! Perhaps the best vid out there explaining the difference between the two styles of kwad.
Means a lot to hear this! Thank you
Fun race dji fav VS rece fpv drone WHO WIN
Fpv quad 100% :)
Ahh man that sucks! What did you break? How long did it take for DJI to repair it and send it back?
@@tomstrojnik first time dirt got in the gimbal and one arm was bent... took about 10 days to get it back. Second time two arms were broken and it took two weeks. Took longer at the second time because I requested further diagnostic. However, I was not very happy with their diagnostic. I wrecked the second time because the screen lagged out at the bottom of a dive. It seems like their diagnostic only checked to make sure the craft connected to the goggles and they didn’t review the flight data that I had uploaded (or at least didn’t mention it in the analysis).
I like the drones how can I buy my own
links are below the video
Can you fly the FPV at night? does it support some sort of night vision in the goggles?
you can fly in the blu hour after sunset, but not at night :)
@@tomstrojnik Thanks for the answer!
Is that because of regulations or simply because you can't see?
I don't actually know if those have any headlights, nor if they'd do any good ^^
A drone with a night vision module should be pretty cool!
@@Pharesm both reasons :))
Great compare 😉👍
Thanks my bro!
What sucks about the DJI FPV is that you can't go higher than 500m, so no cloud or mountain surfing... and of course that it breaks that easiely. But nice video, I am starting with doing cinematic and your videos are helping me a lot.
greetings from Germany
Yeah tell me about it, I was doing some long range cruising and suddenly the drone stopped.. had no idea what's happening and then I realized my height was 500m :(
Thanks for watching my videos!
@@tomstrojnik what do you want me to tell you?
At what point would you recommend switching to a "real" fpv drone?
When you are flying in simulator with full confidence :)
How are they getting 12 mins out of DJI FPV... I get 6-8 max
No idea, we had no problems getting 10+ minutes
Drag race !!!
5 inch quad wins
@@tomstrojnik I know what u mean but isn't both of them 5" quads lmao (5.1 vs 5.3)
@@divingfalconfpv4602 lol.. you know I mean a "normal" 5 inch quad and not dji fpv
Wouldnt say best beginner when it breaks easily. Cost a lot to fix.
That's a big negative of this drone for sure!
Thanks for the honest review. What do you think about the DJI goggles? Are those the best you can get?
Yes, if you are flying digital
Beginners need a crash resistant drone. Not a fragile, expensive, impossible to repair...
Actually it's pretty crash resistant if you fly above grass etc.. but yeah, I know what you mean!
I'm sure aftermarket will create condoms for it🤣🤣
Yea, it is not for me. I would be too stressed flying such an expensive machine. I roll with 3in sub 250g quads. Cheap and easy to repair so I'm not too stressed about crashing. Also, loving to build quads helps. But I hope it will popularize FPV more so we can get better gear as a result.
If you are just flying for fun and you are a technical type of a person... yup your choice is the best! :) thanks for your comment
Exactly what I thought you will say haha its a nice drone but not nice enough for fpv :D
Yup.. eventually you will want to upgrade, but it's a great entry point!
This is like comparing a Bugatti with a Clio good luck with that
Clio RS haha
Not even close. Plus if you’re in a blue zone it won’t even tun on.
2024 Dji fpv is still boss

The DJI FPV is crap and absolutly not for beginners, Freestyle or racing. Even the camera Quality is not as got as a Gopro abd if you crash one time your drone ist broken you wont be able to repair and its very expensive to get it repairt from DJI. I really dont see any pros for the DJI FPV without the Flight maby but mine also last half the long and only cost 30 bucks not 160. Pls if you want a good FPV drone dont buy that crap
