That's not a correct interpretation of the VLOS rule. Putting on the goggles does not violate the VLOS rule. I corresponded with the FAA a few months ago about several questions including this one. In their response, they stated specifically that flying with FPV goggles does not violate VLOS as long as the drone is within range so that the pilot can see the drone if he or she removes the goggles. Aside from racing there's two drone camps - those that want a drone for the video, and those that want a video from flying the drone. I'm in the latter, as I love the immersion the FPV provides and I love that I can watch the footage after the flight. At some point I'll probably want to concentrate on the video over the drone, and then I'll likely get the new Air 3 (as of today).

Interesting perspective, I think most people that are flying this thing are coming from the world of racing quads rather than cinema drones. I think if you were to keep it and keep practicing in rate mode (manual mode) you would find that as your skill level increases this is the smoothest way to fly. I prefer to use the term "Rate Mode" and the term "Angle mode" for DJI (Note that it's D*J*I, not D*G*I lol. Sorry, pet peeve of mine, no youtuber can seem to pronounce this right!) because it's more descriptive of what the quad is actually doing. In Angle mode (sport), you are requesting a specific angle of attack when you move the sticks, so you have to hold the stick in that position to maintain that angle of attack and when you release it the quad moves back to level. In rate mode (manual) you are requesting a specific rate of rotation when you move the sticks, so if you move the right stick right, the quad will roll right at the rate requested until you return the stick to center, and then it will stay at that angle until it receives another input. This is why so many new pilots crash when first trying rate mode, you have to control every movement of the quad. Also, analog has it's advantages. Yes the feed is low def and staticy, but the view tends to degrade slowly and even when it gets really bad you can usually still see enough to get out of trouble. Of course I suppose with the DJI it will hopefully just brake and RTH, but relying on automatic systems to get you out of trouble is not a good idea. Automatic systems can let you down, but your own skills never will. Anyway great video, enjoyed the perspective.

DJI has done a great thing with the DJI FPV drone... great quality footage doing mad tricks .. almost 90mph in acro.. 3 modes and full quality recording . This is for a good FPV flyer who isnt gonna crash it every flight then its perfect... though if you use the other modes then your good anyway. If your into FPV drones and your not so skilled, but love the tight risky flying which is great btw but prone to hitting stuff...then dont buy yet or dont put into acro yet simply because its gonna cost you a fair bit if you prang it. If you love to do videos and your a great flyer its gonna be a blast... why there would be haters is beyond me . DJI has brought out the DJI air unit so u can also fly with your own drone with great goggle image quality and if u have a GoPro then you have the both of best worlds . I have both and not a 'great' FPV pilot just yet but learning fast... and i love it.
I happen to personally have one of these drones and I happen to live near Laughlin Nevada but in Arizona, but my point is is that I have so many amazing places to fly but can't because of faa fly zones and this drone will not even start its motors if I get to Laughlin because there's also protected national parks which you can't "legally" fly in. I know it's just my area... but the drone itself is truly amazing.
Thanks for the demo. I think DJI makes a very clean product, but I think they omitted the features of the Mavic to differentiate their product line. A feature like tracking could easily be implemented on the DJI FPV rig. This makes me hesitant to recommend this to anyone with a cinema interest. I say just build the DJI FPV system into a hobby grade drone and get the goggles. I'm still impressed with the digital FPV side of DJI however I'm a huge fan of user serviceable parts and the lower cost of a custom built drone (with DJI FPV of course). LOL. I could see that soccer net from a mile away.
Power lines and water.. I lost my Mavic 2S in a lake 24 hrs after purchase. The drone malfunction only being 80-90m from me 😢😢 Have been flying drones for yrs and never experienced that issue. Ended up buying the Mavic Air 2 and water landing gear 🤪🤪
Good info. I was scared the first few times I flew my mavic air 2. To be honest, 2 months later and maybe like 15 flights in, I still feel a little nervous. Not sure I got the heart for fpv yet. Looks fun though
I had picked up the fpv and returned it as I was unfamiliar with the faa laws. It was my first drone. I grabbed a mini 2, but the fpv is so much more fun I might rebuy it. I feel more confident in the fpv as I'm seeing it first person. The mini 2 I'm having a hard time watching out of the camera..I Neverending crashed the fpv but have hit a few trees with the mini already.
no mention about the rotation locker in set in manual mode where you can't do flips without turning it off Or how you can literally turn off the Motors And it's nearly impossible to get them back on. that's how I crashed mine the first time
Very good video. Very informative and is going to make my decision easier. I have been thinking about this one or the new DJI Avata. Have you tried that one and if you have you should another video like this. I'm both as in, I love the different perspective you get from flying and the change of scenery but it's also fun to be zipping in and out and going fast.
Be prepared to have it in for repairs at DJI a lot if you crash it I have seen one and it’s not a strong copter frame a crash that will leave my 5”marmotte with a bent prop will totally wreck this thing I’d love to see a combination flight controller/ video/ camera system for a standard Fpv 5” frame using the new tech....or better yet just allow use with a standard serial receiver for use with a standard 12ch computer radio

Yep - it's this little REI camp chair www.rei.com/product/164382/rei-co-op-flexlite-camp-chair
Maybe that’s why they designed it with the props in the frame. Technically, you can see the drone.
You can change the settings so props are cut out of view
@@thefaithfuldiscreetdave9425 what settings do you change for this?
Just noticed we have some of the same fly spots in West Seattle
I will keep an eye out for you :)
Excellent video. I learned a lot.
Glad it was helpful!
You can set the video recording to trim just enough of the video to get rid of the props showing.
I've used turtle mode often, in a tree 2 times turtle mode worked and brought my drone out of three tree,
Awesome. Not sure why it wouldn't work for me.
I just bought this drone and am excited to try it out. I'm surprised by the places you were flying in Seattle. I assumed many would be off limits.
Nope - those are all legal places to fly!
Hey just a FYI you can go into the settings and put on distortion correction and it removes the props out of the view of the camera you can also make it to where you can see the props threw the goggles but it records the footage with no props.
Illegal is a sick bird.
I own one and highly recommend it one of the best drone purchases I ever did helped me to fly FPV
Did you ever get a ffa or have problems with them?
@@charleyhogan5284 nope I fly responsible and obey laws as a hobbyist
@@hookedfpv3219 you fly in neighborhood or that type because I’m dying to buy one but don’t want to go through the problem of Registering or ffa
@@charleyhogan5284 oh yeah I roof top surf and tree top surf but I don’t go in Manuel mode to fragile of a drone but I use it as a steeping stone to learn to fly manual mode in sim I have a iflight nazgul5 for manual mode but it it’s the shit you can always return it
Am looking to get one to, but only getting it to have fun with and make amazing videos.
On my original Mavic Pro, I would get an obstacle warning sometimes when flying directly toward the sun. The direct sunlight or some type of reflection seemed to confuse the sensors. It always scared me!
Interesting idea - that certainly may be the issue here too.
@@photorectoby hi
Sometimes the flight restrictions can be frustrating but usually a short drive will get you somewhere you can fly.
DJI not DGI. I love mine. Ordered on release day and am obsessed with flying it!
Turtle mode only works in the S mode! Simple ^_^
If I'm not mistaken and drum world's called a spotter
This is a real quad. At least the 1300 it costs is real
I'm still searching for the second set of wires.
Can you use the controller with other fpv drones?
I wish the camera was sitting back so to feel like your flying a spaceship from a cockpit
no mention about the rotation locker in set in manual mode where you can't do flips without turning it off Or how you can literally turn off the Motors And it's nearly impossible to get them back on. that's how I crashed mine the first time
I'm certainly gonna get this when I get the money together! 😀👍
turtle mode usually needs to be rearmed after engaged.
Nice review. Thanks.
Great review of the DJI FPV quad. Big Like. I'm subbing. Greetings from Montreal, Canada.
Thanks for the sub! Much appreciated.
I fly my dji fpv once in a blue ..lately more..but I have a questiion..do u have a video on goggle setting & simulator?
Awesome, extremely informative video thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Bought it. Love it.
What'up!PhotoRec~ super-oyu uploaded fantastic - =)
any possibility one can put a infrared gimble on this drone
Just ordered one of these bad boys!
Did you get a ffa or have problems with them?
Hey nice video, well done. Still un decided. Waiting on Air 2 s. Then I'll decide, till then I'm still enjoying my old Mavic Pro from 4 years ago.
The Air 2s looks very interesting. We should know more soon.
Why do all the reviewers call it dgi instead of dji
I get motion sickness really bad.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Be prepared to have it in for repairs at DJI a lot if you crash it I have seen one and it’s not a strong copter frame a crash that will leave my 5”marmotte with a bent prop will totally wreck this thing
I’d love to see a combination flight controller/ video/ camera system for a standard Fpv 5” frame using the new tech....or better yet just allow use with a standard serial receiver for use with a standard 12ch computer radio
I have come to your channel after many years, and I noticed it's PhotoRec TV instead of PhotoRec Toby..
