I have both and I use both. What I love about the DJI is that I can dive some crazy cliff at the top of a mountain and know that if i lose signal on the way down it will recover and return. On the controller issue, for your 5 inch, i would definitely recommend getting a tango 2 and just running crossfire instead of dji, that controller is really awful :)

for now ready to fly drones like iFlight nazgul F5 are 200% better imo bc they have more power and can record way steadier footage and are extremely fun to freestyle while the dji fpv has lots of overpriced gear like batteries and propellers (and those propellers will start costing lots of money when you start actually letting yourself fly one freely with no worries like a real fpv drone also bc it breaks easily it will have lots of financial problems and also you can't fix it at home with spare parts so you have to wait a long time for it to be fixed by dji employees but if its the first fpv drone of someone i think its a good option i wouldn't recommend to someone who wants lots of power though) also i really hope the 2nd version of dji fpv will be similar to the i flight nazgul series that drone is dope the v2 is amazing aswell if it was closer to those drones then it would be a good option

i think you nailed it. Both systems are good in their own ways.
A traditional FPV drone or a cinewoope with DJI FPV or Caddx is much more versetile, lighter and manuverable then the DJI FPV Drone but most dont fly out of the box.
i have like 4 Frames here that i tryed for FPV ( since 2014 all analog) and they never worked right the drone that got my flying FPV with confidence was the DJI FPV Drone.
and if i get a Caddx or DJI FPV system i can bind with the smaller controler i will install it in one of the other frames.

Hey Danny, nice video. For a smaller xBox style controller for fpv builds, look up the TBS Tango 2. Its a great controller with a similar, small size to the DJI FPV drone controller.
(edit) - you just need to attach a small CrossFire receiver to the DJI Air unit.

no you dont need, actualy more vise would be to jump on regulat fpv like tyro 79 for 80$, realy learning curve is the same, mechanics is the same, dji fpv and regular fpv is the same fpv, but price to fix is way different. you can learn with regular fpv way faster since its cheaper and less fragile, you can take risks where on dji you cant. you dont need any confidence to learn with drone for 80$ that is pretty mutch have same or better performance than dji. you throwing you money away with dji. with tyro79 and some emulatots in one week you can fly better than with dji and can take more risks, make crazy moves that with dji you would newer. realy we learn faster from mistakes and with dji mistakes is expensive... if i would be you, i would first learn to fly with regualr until i would have confidence to fly dji

I sold my DJI FPV because of it not having a real disarm switch.
a csc command is not a "kill switch"
    just too dangerous,
mine hit a branch, flipped out and flew 300 yards into the woods and destroyed itself.
all while I was tapping the stop start button...
problem was I had hit pause before it hit the branch....
I didn't have the csc command enabled, it was in default config.
poor design, even worse customer service.
but soo close to being GREAT.
if it had a disarm switch,
    I might buy 2,
    as just a casual cruiser.
the Return to Home H in the UI is a game changer.
    Occusync 3 is game changer.
for the casual flier, even the battery form factor makes sense.
the arms should be user swappable in 5 minutes.
just need mr30 connectors and connect the arms with 3 screws..
those landing legs are designed to break too...
they need to disconnect more gracefully...
so it's a rich boy toy...
buy 2 and fly the other while the one is in the shop...
If you just want to swipe a credit card and get 95% of the sport.
buy the kit, and extra quad, 2 fly more, & car charger, nd filter + misc...
    $1300 + 750 + 600 + 250 = less than 3k and Done...
I've spent way more on Custom quads.
    i have 5 quads each over 500 and 20 + lipos + ++ ++++ ....
if it just had a Disarm....

Depending on what you want out of your FPV quad is the real question, if you want better video I can only imagine DJI will be more geared to aerial photography. If you want to rip freestyle from everyone I have spoken to that owns the DJI FPV quad there is no comparison the standard fpv quad wins hands down basically due to being able to use GUIs such as Betaflight, Emuflight, INAV, etc. and setting the quad to fly they way you want it to fly. Just my humble opinion based on discussions I have had with DJI FPV owners.

  • @flaviotaneli144

    Thanks for your video !
    Here's my mind about it:
1/ you can totally use a third party RX with the air unit and hence a much smaller and cheaper controller
2/ the "complexity" of trad fpv is what makes it exciting and it's not that hard to understand
3/ rth is a not a valid point, a gps is less than 20$ and easy to install so not at all an advantage of dji over traditional
4/ the DJI cam is not that good and some people put a GoPro 8/9 on top of it... which makes it much more expensive to get the same result
5/ fpv quads are made either for freestyle, race or smooth cinematic... so the fact that the DJI quad is limited in mouvements makes totally unworth to me.
Agree with your overall conclusion, except that the perfect drone they could make... is a traditional style one with the air unit, but the replacing parts will always be much more expensive. So for most fpv pilots it's not that soon we'll switch to DJI ^^

    • @jacksonlewis1179

This version really isn't for trad FPV pilots - it's for the 'I've always wanted to get into fpv but the whole build your own drone, batteries that catch fire, flying in manual off the jump kind of threw me off' guys. This is entry level into fpv with an out the box drone that has the capability of flying in three modes. I understand it is not as manoeuvrable as trad but its a fantastic drone none the less. Like Danny said, DJI listen to their customers so the FPV 2 will likely be frikin insane!!

It would be interesting to also compare the safety aspects of both drones. I'm flying the DJI FPV and I love that features such as the emergency break or return-to-home. How does a regular FPV drone compare to that?

DJI is such a predatory company it's beyond me how they have a fanbase. I'd rather fly a goddamn ev800 box goggle then buy any of their products. But then, Apple exists, so why am I even surprised?

its only shaky if youre a shit pilot, the discharge rate can be fixed by retuning the dji and adding aftermarket props which are actually possible and not hard...

I think the traditional FPV drone is pretty much better, because for manuverbility, stability Vidio and the color Vido from GoPro its really good, and of course it's cheap then you buy DJI FPV
And FPV drone it's have Manny different tipe so you can pick for you tipe, Before I get insulted by dji fans, I need to emphasize that I am not a salesperson from me iflhigt
