  • Ceck out my easy fitting guide on how to fit a USB socket to a Honda CT125 Hunter Trail Cub -Either the 2020 or the 2021 model.
    Finally got around to connecting a USB high speed connector to the Honda CT125 Hunter Cub Trail. It was almost a straight fit into the existing socket with only a very slight mod to get the socket in place.
    Not only is it a duel connector it also monitor the condition of your batter too.

    Got my new bike today. Only rode it in parking lot at the dealership. It's freezing outside and wet.cant wait for a nice day. Orderd a USB port for it. I'm excited about the bike.

      happy to hear. pretty sure you'll enjoy the experience. plus don't forget to do a couple of the early oil changes yourself for peace of mind too.

    I watched a Japanese installation of the USB power supply they took off the headlight where there was a blue plastic connector, it was all plug and play.

      I saw that also, looks to be an accy wire just for hooking things like this up.

    • @ridewithwarro
      @ridewithwarro  3 года назад

      yeah i know you can buy that unit for roughly AU$90 and i almost did a couple of weeks ago. i might even pull the headlight in the next day or so and look inside the headlight housing.
      if you find that clip-just ad it to my clip so i can take a look

      I hooked mine up to the headlight, there is no power to the headlight until the motor is running. No chance of running your battery down. Never hook directly to the battery without a switch in line. My USB charger powers up as soon as the bike is started, yet powers down when the bike is turned off. My USB charger also has a light in it, doesn't sound like much of a draw for that little light, but can drain your battery. Something to think about.....

    That looks like a nice setup and I like that voltmeter function of the USB socket. I agree that an on-off button would be a good addition to the socket. Perhaps on your bike you could place a small on-off switch on one of the wires where they are exposed near the upper chassis tube. And if it was me, I would have placed a rag under the USB bracket that was being enlarged with your tool to capture the aluminum particles that were being tossed around by the grinder. Also, perhaps you might want to make another clip searching for that power connector inside the headlight shell that is mentioned by both Phil and Darren. A connector like that might be useful for another one of your future modifications or accessory additions. There might even be a way to extend that connector though the headlight with an SAE connector at the end to power other devices like heated gloves or an electric vest. With the voltmeter installed you could keep an eye on the charging system to make sure that it is not being overtaxed.

    • @ridewithwarro
      @ridewithwarro  3 года назад

      all good points there and i might actually go into the headlight area and check out this source for the connector point in question too.

    I've found the quad lock mounts to be the best, careful with direct connection to the battery, when I went camping I had my phone on charge overnight and drained the battery flat... took quite a while for it to build up enough charge from the alternator to kick over smoothly again, these batteries aren't really made to be deep cycled...It's handy to be able to charge your phone with the bike turned off though... maybe put a small switch somewhere or wire it to the ignition or lights circuit...

    Another good vlog Warro, it’s too bad Honda didn’t put this into the electrical system to begin with on both the c125’s and toe CT’s. Maybe they will the future.

    I've always wondered how long that battery would last because of the draw of the voltage reading on that device
    as was said here there is some kind of a connector in the headlight bucket that makes it a "SWITCHED" device only giving power when the bike is on
    I have always hesitated to put that USB socket directly connected to the battery because I know that if you leave that bike for a month I believe that even that small voltage meter with the light on the USB socket could drain the battery enough so that you cannot start the bike. I'm anxious to hear what you and others think about that.
    Another great video and that USB socket will be the first thing I will install on the bike
    I have to have power to my phone and GPS just like you
    thank you for sharing that with us

      just remember with this bike-in the early days i did totally remove the battery from the bike completely then kick started the bike twice so even if it did flatten it -no real harm done.
      but saying that i did see others on ebay with a power on/off switch-that is the way i'd go now but this is the only one i saw with battery voltage

      im checking out that battery drain situation with this bike. at the momemt its still showing the same output from the instal. take into account to i did do a clip on this bike where i pulled the battery totally from the bike and started it up twice.
      that may not be possible with other bikes but i did it on this one.
      back to the shocks. not sure if you'd have to go this far but once i get around to the installation i guess we will see if they are worth the price or not...lol

    Hi Warro, many years ago I had both CT90’s and 110,S. Casually watching your videos and you inspired me to order a new one in Melb. Should be here next week. So on the USB topic. Two options I can see. Buy the quad lock with charger built in ( and wire that back to an on off location) or do what you have done. Question is you have spoken about a really good USB port at $90. Which is this one and will it plug and play in the location hole? Or does it need a bigger than std hole? Did you ever look in your headlight to see if it has the blue plug in there?

    • @ridewithwarro
      @ridewithwarro  3 года назад

      the $90 unit i spoke about i saw on ebay AU and it was located in Japan. it was a direct plug and play fit to the headlight housing wiring harness.
      ive never looked inside the headlight as i have to remove all the headlight frame racks etc. although i thought some-one actually did take a look and there was no wire to fit it inside.
      the unit i bought appears to work fine for $20 and has that on/off cut out so still happy with that idea

    Don't connect your USB charger to your battery directly ,it will drain your battery.Connect it to your enigation switch so you can use the key as an on and off switch. Used the charger onley when the bike is running/started.Using it with the engine off will drain the battery.Your USB charger dozen have an on off switch.
