  • Three schoolgirls from Illinois have started a campaign to spread awareness around ADHD or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Meha Krishnareddigari, Riya Khandelwal, and Gulnaaz Sayyad are 17-year-olds from Stevenson High School, and through ‘Project A Squared’, they try to educate and inform people about the condition.

    So many people calling it 'rich people problems' just shows how people are unaware of this issue that affects millions in India.

    I really love that someone is talking about ADHD in India. Educational institutes need to be educated about this so that they can support kids with ADHD.

    ADHD can be really problamtic unless u keep yourself busy in tasks u r interested in. If u r doing something in which u r not interested then it becomes trouble to complete that task and this will make u loose self confidence and u will gradually hate your own company. For girls symptoms like getting easily distracted, crying without reason, daydreaming can be seen. This is what I'm experiencing right now. Thanks for telling us the truth behind the common myths.

      @@501bimal that's great to hear, but to everyone else who may have questions, or are new to this disorder (ADHD can be diagnosed in adulthood as well), or know someone who is diagnosed, please get evaluated by a professional psychiatrist/clinical psychologist, especially someone who specialises in ADHD and other childhood behavioral issues. U need to be assessed whether ur management requires only Counselling and Behavioral therapy, or whether it is severe enough to require medication as well.

    The only thing I would change in the video is that medication is not the only way to manage ADHD. Unless it is severe and the person absolutely needs medication to get things under control before seeking a therapist for practical management tools.
    Most girls that I know don’t “need” medication but they sometimes feel it’s the quickest and easiest way to change how they feel. It’s a dangerous road if you rely only on medication to treat ADHD. There are a plethora of mental tools to help improve the brain function of people with ADHD including psychotherapy, clinical hypnosis, CBT, short spurt meditations, etc.

    • @impulse9715
      @impulse9715 2 года назад +5

      Yes. ADHD is a disorder which makes it hard for people to sustain and regulate attention on things they don't find interesting, have problems with time management, prioritising, and getting things done, along with a few other issues.
      And these issues cause a lot of difficulties and struggles in life.
      It's a neurological difference, which means it's there since birth and can't be cured, only managed and treated.

      @maddy gamer just difficulty in study can't be your basis of diagnosis. It is a neurodivergence that is genetic and you are born with it. Research about it properly before spending money on it just because you are not able to study. "how to adhd" is a channel that might help. It tells you about various aspects of it. Some dimwits online have reduced it to just "concentration issues" which makes people invalidate this issue and not recognise it as a real condition (which btw if untreated extends to depression, anxiety, social anxiety, low self esteem, confidence issues, substance abuse problems, disbalanced relationships and might lead to suicidal tendencies) and they shrug it off saying "aise to sabko thora thora hota hai"

      ..with them. One cannot improve if they don't even where is the root of problem is. People with adhd have problem completing even simple daily tasks and as an indian i know how much indian parents LOVE to compare their children with others and for people with adhd this comparison can cause many problems like depression anxiety (or others i don't know much i am not an expert) so it is important that we spread awareness to people with adhd and their parent and tell them that they are not alone that you can improve and even though you feel like no matter how much you try you are stuck that is because they are trying to solve the problem wrong way.
